~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Mom, that's enough. Mom, I said that's enough!," I shrieked. As she let go, my hands automatically flew to my hair and I winced as I gingerly touched my scalp. My scalp was throbbing which left me to glare at my mother at the corner of my eye.
She lifted her hands and backed away from me as she defensively put out,"Hey, I was just trying to help and it wasn't that bad. I only put five in your hair, anyway."
"Five? Yeah, right. You jammed like twenty of them in my hair," I snapped. I pulled at some of the bobby pins stabbed in my scalp and moaned in relief as my head stopped throbbing. I softly massaged my head and pushed a few strands back.
"There. Much better. You really do look gorgeous in that faerie costume, Arielle. So, when are you heading to Seth's place," my mom asked as she smiled at me through the mirror and admired my costume.
"7:15 since where heading at school at 7:30," I replied as I sprayed more water in my hair.
It was Friday. Which meant the Halloween party at school. Even though Halloween really was in Sunday they were doing it Friday since they're not gonna do it on a day off. I was nervous and hyped since I really was looking forward to this party and I hoped everything will be alright. No drama. No Shadow. No surprises. Just having fun with a couple of friends.
Matt was going too and I wonder how he'll come like. I grinned since Matt always came surprising you like when we found out he'll be living in Oregon. That was something.
I placed some small, simple jewelry and makeup on me, and then I was done. My mom made a few more arrangements and then when satisfied, she smiled and placed her hands on her waist.
"You ready? It's already 7:05 so before you go, let me take your picture!," she beamed.
I started saying that it wasn't neccesary, but she was already running to the other side of the house for her camera. I sighed and made my way out of the bathroom.
My mom came back in, but before I could stop her she had me by the arm and had me bounding down the stairs to the living room.
She let go and I was bending down my waist in exhaustion and shock.
"Mom, what the hell! I could have tripped and fell on my face on those stairs," I exclamied.
"Sorry, but I was just so excited. Again sorry, but let me take your picture now," she said. I sighed, but let her take the picture. I didn't bother to look at it because I was running late.
I kissed my mom goodbye on the cheek and left her waving from the doorway. I took another look at the front door and smirked at the Casper poster taped in the front door, and the large spider web surrounding it.
Then I got in my car and headed toward Seth's. I can't wait for this party to get started. I turned my radio up as "Chew me Up and Spit me Out" by Cobra Starship came up. I nodded my head toward the beat and then after a moment I started laughing in excitement. You could say that I'm really looking forward to this and that this doesn't turn out as a mistake later on.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I knocked on Seth's door and after a few seconds my Blackberry starting ringing inside my sweater. I grabbed it and checked the caller it said 'Unknown'. I frowned and shifted my weight to my other foot. I pressed the 'Call' button and pressed my phone against my ear. At the other end of the line came a crackling sound and then a dry voice answered," What's your favorite scary movie?"
I froze and answered back,"Uh, who is this? Is that you, Seth?" I looked around and knocked on the door once again.
The stranger laughed darkly and responded back saying,"Seth is not here. Now, answer the question."
"Oh, c'mon. Seth. I know it's you or whoever you are! And anyway I don't like scary movies," I said.
"Pick one!" he demanded.
"Fine! Um, maybe Jeepers Creepers or Chucky. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is too bloody for me. Yeah, maybe those. Can we stop now?" I asked. I pushed a few loose strands of hair away and peeked through the windows of the house. I almost looked away until I caught a fleeting shadow ducking under a doorwary. I frowned and knocked on the door again.
"But the game is just starting..." he trailed off and the line disconnected. I stared at my phone and suddenly a hand clamped down my mouth. My eyes widened and I started flailing my arms around me. He let go as I put my foot up and quickly pushed it back to struck any part of him which ended up being his knee.
I turned around to find a caped man groaning in the ground as he held his knee. I stood there for a second until I noticed he was wearing a mask. I hesitated and then I went in to snatch his mask and find out who my kidnapper was.
"Seth! Like, really. You know you just wasted your time doing that and ended up with a kick in the knee," I exclaimed.
Seth smirked and slowly got to his knees. "Well, it was kinda worth it. And you have the worst taste in scary movies!"
I glared at him and handed him back his Scream mask which he accepted with a grin. Suddenly, the front door opened makig light pour out and out came Jodie and Ruby in their costumes with silly grins in their faces.
Then their eyes popped out suddenly and Ruby exclamied out,"Finally! I thought Seth would never ask! So, when is the wedding? Can I arrange it along with Jodie here?"
Me and Seth checked our positions and started laughing as we looked like a young enganged couple.
"The wedding will be in...Never! And if I ever do get married your not arranging it! My mother will take care of that. Anyway, we gotta hit the road, people," Seth said.
Ruby slightly pouted and Jodie sighed in disappointment while I laughed and crossed my arms. Then I really looked at them. Ruby was dressed in a fallen angel which really suited her. The dress reached to her knees and it showed all her curves even though it was black, but it sure was kinda tight on her. It was all black with a purple kind of material over it like sparkles and it was ripped intentionally in some places. She even had these ripped black wings to go with the outfit. It really was a good dress.
Then I looked at Jodie who was dressed as Little Red Riding Hood with a knee-height red skirt, black belt, and a white blouse. She also had black heels. Oh and you can't forget the red cape. Certainly not. It really went well since her green eyes and curly, blond highlighted hair made everything pop. We were ready!
Seth whistled at us and nodded his head toward his car.
Jodie and Ruby hurried down the stairs while Seth yelled in the open door,"Bye mom! See you at 10!" And then he closed and locked the door.
I gaped at him as he got in the driver's seat. "Your mom was there? Since when?"
"Since she was born! I'm just kidding, you know. She knew I wouldn't hurt you so she was alright with the prank. God, I love my mother," he said.
The others laughed while I said,"You didn't ask if I was alright with this?"
"Hey, chill. Its not like I arranged your death or something. Oh, hey, doesn't my house look cool with all the Halloween decorations all over it?"
I took a look at the house and was shocked that I didn't notice how scary it looked. God, I've been distracted lately. An image of Shadow went into my view and irritated I shook the image away.
I looked up again and observed the house. From top to bottom it was covered with spider webs, but not made too exaggerated. At the front of the house there was quite an impressive graveyard and a sign in bloody, black letters that said,"The Black Graveyard. Dare to Enter?" Also, since this was kinda a foggy night it went well with the theme which was to fear the graveyard.
Impressed I nodded and gave Seth two thumbs up who grinned in excitement. He started the car and swiftly made it to the street.
As we drove a question popped into my head. "Oh, hey Seth! Where were you hiding when we were talking in the phone?"
He grinned and said,"In the bushes. It took me awhile to be hidden well since I kept getting tangled in the spider webs. I was lucky that you didn't hear anything or it would've been a waste like you said, but hey it was a smart idea!"
Jodie tuned in, saying,"Kinda, but it was funny to watch since you kept taunting her and Arielle kept staying stubborn and saying it was you. If you keep up with that mood, Arielle, then you'll be the Scream's next victim, but by the real one this time!"
I feignedly pouted and crossed my arms.
"Cool costume by the way, Arielle. I wonder what Matt will be," Jodie said.
"We'll find out in a minute since were already here guys!," exclaimed Ruby. I looked at the school entrance and was shocked to find so many people there dressed in costomes and moving excitedly toward the school's gym room which was the destination for the Halloween party since it was big enough for a full-blown party.
Seth parked in a spot in the school parking lot and opened his door to howl out like a wolf. "C'mon, guys! Were gonna make this party count and hell is going to break lose!"
The rest of us got out and we hurried toward the school doors. We laughed and walked inside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Wow, they sure know how to throw a party that's for sure," said Seth as we rounded another hallway and could hear the sounds of cheering people and loud music, but we couldn't hear the song or who was the artist since the sound was all muffled up by the cheering and walls.
The whole school was made into a haunted house with shrieking skeletons popping out of the darkness, spiders coming down on you, bloody handprints on the walls, and warnings like "Watch Out for the Tenth Step on the Staircase or be Haunted for Life by the Dead Man" or "Watch out for Bloody Mary" taped in the girl's bathroom. Some were just ridiculous, but hey they were trying, and they made quite an impression on some people. I'm going to make sure I won't need the bathroom.
"So, where is Matt exactly?" asked Ruby.
"He said he'll meet us where the liquids are which is near the exit doors at the back. He also added that the Gym was huge and packed with people. Awesome," Seth said with enthusiasm.
"Here we are, guys!" yelled out Ruby as we made it to the gym and out came blasting inside Dance, Dance by Fall Out Boy.
My head immediately overflowed with the lyrics of the song:
She says she's no good with words but I'm worse
Barely stuttered out
"A joke of a romantic" or stuck to my tongue
Weighed down with words too over-dramatic
Tonight it's "it can't get much worse"
Vs. "no one should ever feel like.."
I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by
Dance, Dance
We're falling apart to half time
Dance, Dance
And these are the lives you'd love to lead
Dance, this is the way they'd love
If they knew how misery loved me
The gym was already packed with people and they were dancing like crazy on the dancefloor with partners. The gym was covered in spider webs, skeletons were hanging from the walls, bloody handprints everywhere, and I think they had a fog machine since I couldn't see my feet on the floor and it was foggy. Another surprise. They actually made the place look scary. Good job.
Then my eyes lingered to the DJ that had his equipment set out in the stage and who was playing the Fall Out Boy's song and again I was urged to dance to the song. I really wanted to dance to this song, but Ruby grabbed my arm and all of us headed toward the back of the Gym to find Matt. I sighed disappointedly, but followed along since I was curious too of how Matt would look.
"Where is he," Ruby asked as we got to the back and noticed that Matt wasn't there like he had said. Ruby crossed her arms and looked through the crowds of people, but she couldn't identify none of them since from all the costumes and makeup.
As I faced the others a pair of bloody arms came from the darkness and wrapped around them in a tight embrace. Jodie and Ruby shrieked while Seth took one of the arms and dragged the person toward him.
Out came from the darkness was no other than Matt Lancer dressed as a...zombie? What the hell? Matt was wrapped head to toe in ripped strands of sheets covered in fake blood and gore. The meat and visible veins on his neck and other parts of his body were created from blood and makeup. Also, he had fake crooked, dead teeth on, red contacts, and dirty, bloody nails. He looked like he belonged in one of those Resident Evil movies.
Seth grinned as he saw Matt's face and let him go. "Cool costume you got there. What are you a zombie? Did you get the chance to eat any brains at your way here?"
Matt threw him a lopsided grin and said,"Yeah I'm a zombie. And Naa. I was gonna get Ruby's brain here, but I got caught. So, I'll be taking your brain, Seth. Let me just get my utensils and I'll be getting started."
Seth's face went deadly pale and he stuttered out in fear,"But I thought we were friends. What happened to that? Ruby's brain is more delicious than mine and she's an easier prey."
"We were friends until you decided to get me caught and take my dinner away from me. And anyway it won't hurt so there is no need for screaming or the like. I'll make it really fast, but I'll enjoy every bite. Now, where is my machete...," soothed Matt as he looked under the table that was filled with liquids and no not alcohol for his machete.
"Over my dead body will you get my brain!," yelled Seth and then he started running away from Matt.
"Hey! What happened to the Scream facing death with scorn?! And the zombie is already dead so it's already an easier kill," yelled Ruby at Seth who kept running and glancing behind him.
Matt glanced at Seth and pulled his machete out from under the table. His plastic machete. I giggled and he laughed.
"Oh, it won't hurt alright! That's for sure," I teasingly said. I smirked at the thing and shook my head at Seth.
"Hey, you gotta do what you gotta do. While I find Mr.Scream you ladies enjoy your night and we'll caught you guys later. Well...if the Scream does survive though...Oh, Mr. Scream I've heard you face death with sarcasm? Is that so then you shouldn't be running away from me like a coward," challenged Matt as he made his way to Seth who immediately started backing away from a couple he was talking to.
"Oh and Jodie I always did think you'd made an adorable Red Riding Hood, Ruby, your a tempting fallen angel, and Arielle you are cute faerie with those sparkly wings," commented Matt as he stopped in his tracks of going after Seth and gave all of us a sweet smile.
"Why thank you, Matt. You look good yourself too," said a blushing Jodie looking as red as her cape. Me and Ruby smiled gratefully and then Matt was on his way.
"Well, that was nice of Matt and since he said we should go enjoy ourselves then we shall. Chicas, let's hit the dancefloor and dance till thirst engulfs us! Literally though," said Ruby. We all laughed and we headed toward the dancefloor as The Veronicas song Hook Me Up came up.
I'm tired of my life
I feel so in between
I'm sick of all my friends
Girls can be so mean
I feel like throwing out
Everything I wear
Starting over new
Cause I'm not even there
Sometimes...
I want to get away some place
But I don't want to stay too long
Sometimes
I want a brand new day
Trying to fit in where I don't belong
Hook....Hook me up
I want to feel the rain in my hair
Hook....Hook me up
Where should we go?
I don't even care
Anywhere is good enough
Hook me up
Hook me up
And that was how we spent the next hour. Dancing to songs and chatting with friends along the way.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After awhile of dancing to Flyleaf's song I'm So Sick I started getting a bit lightheaded and decided to stop for a minute and maybe get a drink.
"Hey, Jodie, do you want a drink or anything," I yelled at her ear as she danced to the beat of the song with some guy named Oscar who was in our grade and attended some of our classes. He was dressed as a vampire.
She stopped and pursed her lips for a second before responding,"Hmm, can you get me some water 'cause I'm kinda getting lightheaded here. Do you feel lightheaded?" I nodded. "I hope we don't get a headache. Maybe I should come with you since I want to rest for a minute. Do you mind, Oscar?"
Oscar shook his head and said,"You guys go ahead and bring me some water will you?"
Jodie promised him some water and we pushed our way through the sweaty crowd to the drinks' section on the back.
We checked out the other drinks which was punch, pop, ice tea, juice, and water bottles. Beneath the drinks you could see the tablecloth which was covered in spiders and blood. Also, a fake spider web was hung above the table with fake spiders tangled on them. Very Halloweenish.
We grabbed three water bottles and decided to take a seat on some of the vacant tables around the gym. Jodie went to take Oscar's water bottle and tell him that we are going to rest for awhile before hitting the dancefloor again.
Jodie came back and we rested against our chairs sipping our water as we went. I yawned and suddenly realized how tired I felt from all the dancing I've done. I really wish I brought some extra clothes since this costume was making me feel stiff and itchy. I sighed and stretched my arms above me.
"What a hectic night this had been, hasn't it? It's fun, but I already feel worn out. I so can't wait to get to bed and sleep till noon," said Jodie as she stretched her legs and cracked her knuckles.
"Yeah I'm tired too and now you made me tempt going home to my bed for some good sleep. I hope we don't fall asleep in these chairs or we'll look like fools," I said. I yawned again and rested my head against the arm
