During the whole semester, April has observed how Mike has been doing to study for the exams. She asked him some advices since he was a bit more in advance on the studies than her and since it seemed he has rapidly become a great experienced monster on the scaring theories. He often lend her some books he had found, or has studied with her, when they could more or less. And April was happy to have had Mike by her side many times to help her out a bit. But when he couldn't, she still could demand things to Professor Knight, and hear out any feedback on any exercise they have done and how she could evolve in her scare lessons. Of course during the semester, she wasn't going to be a maniac on studying. She has left some time for her to do her graffiti art, do some fitness to stay in shape, telephone her family, listen to some music.... But she took the scare studies straight at heart, not wanting to fail on anything nor more importantly the exams.

As for about the RORs, she constantly has to deal with remarks and judgments coming from them, but she stayed strong and tries either avoiding them or ignoring their speeches. They notice how she was behaving, which stuns them and irritates them, but they would still continue to see how far April was going to handle that all.

And Sullivan is another guy she tries avoiding, even if he doesn't specially annoy her so far, because of his so proud and confident attitude. Even if most monster girls do get attracted by his cool attitude, she doesn't fall for that. Her focus is on her studies and on her hobbies. Nothing has to matter more than that.

As for Randall, she enjoys his company. She knows he is rather a lonely guy too and that he doesn't get friends easily even if he tries too, so when she or he can, she gives him some company and makes him feel less lonely. They aren't like best friends, but they understand each other pretty greatly.

Randall and Mike, like most friends do, often ask her about her to get to know her a bit. She isn't distant, nor doesn't she reply harshly, but she keeps things about her for herself, not wishing to let them know.... at least yet. Mike and Randall don't understand this pretty much, but they accept her decision. After all it's her own private life.

Her studies hasn't gone pretty bad, on contrary. Her tests results and exercises points are impressive. Not as great as Mike's results, which are almost all excellent, but enough to be one of the best students in class. And she is proud of it. All of her efforts do contribute to something.

-

Today is the day of the exams. Finally.... But before having to go to the scare building to do it, April has woken up earlier to get contacts with her family. She walks down the corridor of the dorms to call her parents through a hanging telephone on the wall. She pays some money and starts typing their number. She waits a bit, hoping for her parents to answer the call. After what has taken a few seconds, somebody talks through the telephone.

"Hello? Madam Slyther here.", a female voice introduces herself.

"Hi mom.", April says a bit embarassed.

"Oh, hi my sweet snake eyes. How you doing?", the mother asks, enthusiastically.

"I'm fine, really. Today I'll have to do the final exams of this month. I just dearly hope it'll be fine.", April answers.

"But of course you will make it. You are our sweet and caring little monster.", mom says.

"Heh, thanks.", April chuckles out, "Is dad there too?"

"Of course he is here. Morton! Come here and say hi to your daughter.", the mother calls out, having taken a bit of distance between her face and the telephone to not give April an ear rape.

Seconds later, a deep warm male voice answers the call.

"Howdy dear April.", the father says happily.

"Hi dad.", April answers.

"I heard you will be doing your final exams for this semester. Not too nervous I hope my little dragon?", he asks.

"Nah, I'll be good. Or at least I hope.", April chuckles out, "How is Andy? Can I talk to him too?"

"Well.... he is fine. Pretty weak and tired as usual since a few months, but for now the illness isn't getting worse fortunately. The doctors just have to keep an eye on him for a few more months and see what they can do to cure it. He isn't available right now. The doctors just need to do a few exams right now.", the father says sadly.

"Oh.... I see.", April answers.

"But do not worry. He always tells us that he is holding on. You can call him anytime soon. He loves you dear, just like me and your mother does.", the father tries to reassure her.

"Thanks, dad.", she says, her voice a bit shaky from emotions.

"Well, I guess it's best if I hang up. Don't want you to be distracted when you will be doing the exams, don't we? It's nice of you to have called us. We love you, April. Good luck.", the dad cheers up.

"Ok, thank you again.", April says, "Bye."

"Bye April.", calls out the mom through the telephone before the telephone hangs up.

April sighs, wishing she could have at least been spending just a few minutes with her brother. But it's best for him if he could take the best time possible to rest. Now, April puts the telephone back against the wall and starts walking out of the dorms, in direction of the scare building. Once she has walked out the dorms she breathes in and out, being a bit nervous of the exams. As she reaches the scare building, she suddenly notices the Roar Omega Roar in front of the building, talking to Sullivan with his fraternity jacket taken off from him. And Sullivan doesn't look very pleased around them. The conversation was surely over since Sullivan started walking away inside the building without his jacket, which now is held by Johnny. April doesn't understand what is going on, but she was sure that Sullivan was probably in trouble with this fraternity. She tries walking past the RORs, rushing quickly and avoiding eye contact with any of them, but as she starts going up the stairs of the building she gets interrupted by Johnny's voice.

"Hey there, if it isn't the rookie right there.", he calls out, looking straight at her.

April stops, making a cringed face with her eyes closed.

"Damn it.", she mumbles quietly to herself.

"I just wanted to say, good luck in the exams. I hope the beachball wouldn't scare you when he'll fail the exams.", he calls out again, laughing with his compatriots after he said this.

April frowns at herself, this remark annoying her, knowing he was talking of Mike by the name of beachball. And also it annoys her how he underestimated she and Mike. She turns around, facing him with a serious look.

"Welp, and I hope that Sullivan doesn't join back the most loud and chit chatting fraternity here in MU. He deserves better than that.", April scoffs, starting to walk back up the stairs.

But what she doesn't see is the glare Johnny and his colleagues have suddenly thrown at her when she said this. They all start walking up too to reach April.

"I think there is something unclear here, rookie.", Johnny says, his voice now pretty stern and menacing.

April stops again, turning around only to see threatening faces out of the RORs. Johnny walks right in front of April, looking down at her only a few inches away.

"There is a reason we the Roar Omega Roars are the best winning fraternity here. We have done more than just sit around and read a bunch of books. And this, you cannot understand, because just like the beachball, you won't reach our level.", Johnny says.

April lets out a tsk, not showing any fear against the intimidating bull like monster.

"What makes you think that? You have never seen the times I have studied in the lessons in the first place. And still, I am not scared of trying. Also am not scared of you.", April throws back to Johnny.

His glare hardens as he starts walking more forward, forcing April to walk backwards and reach the wall of the building. She is cornered, trapped, not having much space to be escaping from him, and knowing that if she tried, his pals would be stopping her.

"Is that so?", Johnny asks, now pretty irritated but still with his deep cool voice on to not loose it, still seeming menacingly, "Then what are you compared to me?"

April feels a boiling feeling starting to feel up in her head, trying to stay calm and not lose it, but also panicking. She starts holding her arms together, tightening herself on the grip to not lose control.

"You aren't that special. You wouldn't think you can succeed now, don't you? Come on. What's a female monster like you even doing here? You might be so desperate and so lonely to think that any of the people here care about you, your wishes or your talents. That is why you are worthless and hopeless. You think that measuring against us will prove you got something. Did your mother ever teach you to how to show respect to the wealthier here? Or maybe if you had any sibling, big or smaller, he might have given you a bad influence now have-", Johnny bullies on April but gets interrupted to big shock.

Because April suddenly looks up to Johnny, her pupils fully dilated, glaring hard and-

"SCREEEEEEEEECH!", April has let out, the loudest she ever had against her aggressor.

Johnny immediately backs off, having let out a light gasp. The other members of the RORs are staring in shock by what has just happened right here. April pants, furious, and trying to cool off, still glaring against Johnny and looking to every other members too. She steps towards Johnny, this time being the one pretty menacing.

"Don't. You. Dare. Talk about my family, friends or myself that way again. Especially my brother.", she hisses.

"Y-Your-", Johnny heaves his hands up giving up trying to calm down the situation and showing his smarmy smile again as if nothing happened.

"Shut up!", April shouts at him, "Keep these poisonous words for yourself. You might be one of the best monsters in this city or more. Good for you. But keep these selfish and ignorant words for yourself, or next time, I will be very bad."

She says, leaving the fraternity out of the building to join the classroom. The RORs stay still, dumbfounded and not knowing what to say. April is about to sit down on her seat, but she doesn't feel well. After all that pressure going on with the fraternity, she is feeling dizzy, stressed and in a bad mood. She even has got nausea from all of this. She puts her affairs on her seat and walks to one of the students present in the room.

"Can you please inform Professor Knight that I will be back in a few minutes? I don't feel well.", she asks, pleading.

"Uh, sure.", the monster says, not feeling concerned about her since he doesn't really know her even though they are in the same class.

"Thanks.", April says, walking towards the girls bathroom of the scare building.

Randall and Mike, who are already in the classroom, have noticed April running off to the bathroom. They look at each other, wondering what is going on with her. April immediately walks towards the sink, her hands on opposite sides of it, her head hanging low. She opens the sink, letting water run and pours some with her big hands on her face to refresh. She breathes hard, her head feeling like it spins. She looks up to the mirror, to her own reflection. She has become pale. She is trying to calm down and erase all these negative emotions in her heart. She sits down next to the sink because of her dizziness. She wants to attend the exams. She doesn't want to miss them. So she tries all her best to calm down. Only all of these emotions she has, it's hard for her to keep them in her. A tear starts falling down from one eye. She wraps her arms around her knees, which are close to her chest, and buries her head in, starting to cry.

-

After what has taken twenty minutes, April has managed to calm herself down. Her eyes are puffy and red from the crying, but she doesn't feel nauseous any longer. And since she wants to do the exam, she walks to her seat. She notices the RORs having entered the classroom. She avoids looking at them, ignoring their presence. But what stuns her is that there are more empty seats than there was when she first came in the classroom. Probably some students have already done the tests and could leave earlier. She sighs as she sits down, trying to forget anxiety or stress. She observes as her class mates pass one by one to the stage and perform. Professor Knight notices her presence.

"Ah, Miss Slyther. You feeling better?", he asks in concern.

"Yeah, I'm fine.", she says, forcing a smile.

"You think you can do the exams?", Professor Knight asks, wanting to know wether her health and sanity can afford her to participate.

"I am more than ready, professor.", April says, nodding decisively.

"Good. Then be prepared when your turn will come.", he says, turning his look back to the stage and call out the next student.

April breathes in and out, feeling peace trying to get on her mind, which reassures her. But then suddenly, she can see down in the middle, Sullivan has stood up to walk past Mike's seat and bumped against Mike's books, making them fall down.

"Hey, do you mind?", asks Mike, irritated by this action.

"Don't mind at all.", Sulley answers back.

Sullivan walks to the front, practicing his scaring and roar, annoying Mike and tease him. Mike shoots daggers at Sulley. Randall gets up from his seat, seeing how there was tension here among these two monsters.

"C'mon Mike, let's just move.", he says, grabbing his stuff and leave.

Mike jumps down near Sulley and picks up his books.

"Stay outta my way. Unlike you, I had to work hard to get into the scare program.", he scowls at Sulley.

"That's because you don't belong here.", Sullivan scowls back.

Mike frowns and doesn't want to be put down by Sulley, so he walks to the front too and starts roaring, this situation having turned like a competition now. Sulley is surprised but he roars back against Mike who shivered. Sullivan laughs.

"That's what I thought....", Sulley says, proud.

Sulley goes back to practicing as Mike's cocky smile melts. His words have gotten under Mike's skin. Mike gets into Sulley's face and starts practicing his scares too. April cringes, sucking her teeth, knowing where this might go.

"God, please don't.", she whispers to herself.

But the two monsters continue to fight by giving out the best roar impressions to each other. Sulley keeps doing the same scare move. With every lunge, Mike does a different move. Other students start to take notice of the guys. Randy looks up at Hardscrabble, concerned. He sees that Hardscrabble is taking notice.... Mike and Sulley get closer and closer to one another and then Sulley steps back, tripping on the books. Sulley stumbles back and bumps into the stand holding Hardscrabble's scream can. It starts wobbling.... The can wobbles strongly then falls. There's a beat, then it appears to be undamaged. Whew- they're safe. Suddenly, the scream is released, sending the can spinning around the room. Students have to duck out of the way as it flies back and forth. Even April had to bent down from her seat. It finally lands in front of Mike and Sulley, emptying completely. Suddenly a huge, dark figure lands in front of them, wings outstretched. Mike and Sulley come face to face with Dean Hardscrabble. She picks up her empty scream can. Randy looks from Mike and Sulley to Hardscrabble, then blends himself invisible. April hasn't noticed Hardscrabble being in the classroom until now. She gulps, worried.

"I'm so sorry.", Mike half whispers.

"It was an accident.", Sulley half whispers too.

Hardscrabble turns around to face the two monsters.

"What, this? My one souvenir from a lifetime of scaring? Accidents happen don't they? The important thing is: no one got hurt.", she says, seeming reassuring.

April sighs in relief, thinking that they might not be in trouble after all.

"You're taking this remarkably well.", says Mike, not knowing if having to feel relieved or be worried by what would happen next.

"Now, let's continue the exams.", Hardscrabble says, turning to Mike, "Mr. Wazowski, I'm a 5-year-old girl on a farm in Kansas afraid of lightning. Which scare do you use?"

April raises an eyebrow, getting confused by this sudden change of subject. Mike looks around confused, asking himself why is she taking over.

"Shouldn't I go up on the--", Mike starts before Hardscrabble interrupts.

"Which scare do you use?", she insists.

Mike, obligated to answer, thinks quick.

"That is a shadow approach with a crackle holler.", he answers.

"Demonstrate.", Hardscrabble demands

Mike moves through the steps of the scare deliberately. He takes a deep breath, preparing to scare when suddenly-

"Stop! Thank you.", Hardscrabble says, turning away to Sullivan.

"But I didn't get to sh--", Mike tells.

"I've seen enough.", Hardscrabble interrupts again.

Hardscrabble faces now Sulley and asks him another test question too.

"I'm a 7-year-old boy--", she starts.

Sulley steps forward and roars ferociously. Hardscrabble is unimpressed.

"I wasn't finished.", Hardscrabble talks.

"I don't need to know any of that stuff to scare. ", Sulley says.

"That "stuff" would have informed you that this particular child is afraid of snakes. So a roar wouldn't make him scream, it would make him cry, alerting his parents, exposing the monster world, destroying life as we know it, and of course, we can't have that, so I'm afraid I can not recommend that you continue in the scaring program, good day.", Hardscrabble explains.

Sulley is laughing, but in panic, then it dawns on him.

"Wait, what? But I'm a Sullivan.", he protests.

"Well then, I'm sure your family will be very disappointed.", Hardscrabble concludes, smiling.

Sulley is incredulous, confused. He looks up into the stands, just in time to see the door swing shut on Johnny and the RORs as they exit. Sulley can't believe this is happening. And so does April who watched the whole scene, with wide eyes, shocked. Sulley turns to Mike and stares at him with pure hate and then marches off. Mike watches Sulley leave, concerned. But Hardscrabble isn't finished, turning back to Mike.

"And Mr. Wazowski, what you lack is something that cannot be taught, you're not scary.", she says.

Mike stands there, stunned. April gasps, covering her mouth with one of her big hands.

"You will not be continuing in the scaring program.", Hardscrabble adds.

"Please, let me try the simulator, I'll surprise you.", Mike begs.

"Surprise me? I doubt that very much.", she ends, walking off and flying away to where she stood before.

Mike, completely aghast, stands still, unbelieving what just happened to him. He looks to the ground, wide-eyed, starting to exit the building, slowly. April feels deeply sorry for him, wishing it wouldn't have happened that way.

"Oh, Mike....", April whispers to herself, her voice shaky.

Professor Knight, taking back the situation, clears his throat.

"Alright, sorry, but you know what happens when you fail this exam. It's a sad reality, but it is how it is.", Professor Knight says, adjusting his glasses on his muzzle checking his list of students, "Ok, next; April Slyther", he calls out.

April startles as she heard her name being called. She gets up from her seat, rushing towards
