Luce keeps her younger brother Nicolas, and herself safe from the soldiers on the destroyed streets of Portland, travelling from place to place, avoiding the soldiers and even crazed, starving cannibals. Then one night, Luce hears of a thing called 'The switch' while invading a Control headquarters base one night. Although initially unsure, Luce believes the switch is a device that when activated, could be a great advantage to the remaining allies around the world barely holding on.
