IT WAS ONLY WHEN THE 2 GHOSTS POOFED BACK INTK THE GARAGE THAT OLVIA REALISED THEY WERE STILL HOLDING HANDS
It wasn't that she wanted to let go but as she turned her head to see Reggie, Alex, and Julie staring at them in surprise, both ghosts quickly let go of their intertwined hands and stood up from the couch they had landed on.
Reggie was the first to break the silence.
"You're back! I can't believe your back, I thought Luke had messed up so bad we were never gonna see you again!'' Reggie squealed as he rushed over to the blonde to hug her, causing her to laugh and Luke to frown.
"Thanks for having so much faith in me Reg," Luke grumbled under his breath.
Alex gave his sister a tight hug after Reggie had let her go and whispered in her ear
"I was so ready to beat up his ass"
"No, you weren't."
"Yeah no, I wasn't.'
The siblings laughed and let go of each other. Olivia glanced over at Julie, who sat at her keyboard, and the Molina girl smiled at her.
"Welcome back" Julie smiled.
"Thanks, it feels good to be back." Olivia smiled.
Everyone watched as Luke and Julie exchanged glances, tension clear between the two.
Luke looked at the girl and nervously bit his lip and fiddled with his fingers But the Latino just broke out into a smile.
"Grab a guitar, we got work to do." She smiled and Luke finally grinned back.
The boy went over to grab his guitar as Olivia made her way over to a chair to watch, Luke walked over to the young Latin and smiled.
"What made you come back?" he asked
"I realized how important music is to all of us, and we've lost so much already. We can't lose this too." Julie said.
"Thanks," Luke said as he stared at her gratefully.
"Alright boss, where we at?" Luke asked as he moved away to tune his guitar, but before he did Julie spoke up again.
"Oh and by the way, happy birthday.''
Olivia and Luke exchanged surprised glances with each other before looking over at Reggie and Alex, the latter giving them nonchalant shrugs.
"Let's go from the pre-chorus- oh! Olivia, we were wondering if maybe you wanna perform with us tonight? I mean you already know the song and all the chords and notes like the back of your hand." Julie suggested, looking over at the older girl expectantly.
Olivia froze mid-way from grabbing her guitar and looked around the room, the boys all gave her hopeful glances with Alex and Luke nodding their hands encouragingly. But the blonde sighed as she shifted her weight from one foot to the other.
"I - I don't know guys, I don't think I'm ready for that just yet."
Their smiles fell but they nodded nonetheless, they knew it was gonna be hard for the girl but it didn't stop them from trying nonetheless.
Olivia felt bad when she saw their fallen demeanors so she spoke up again with a small smile.
"But I'll think about it."
And that was enough for all of them, causing them all to whoop and grin.
"Alex starts us off!"
"One two three four !"
~~~~
They had rehearsed for a good 4 hours before the night started to fall, the orange and pink skies could be seen from the windows of the garage and Julie finally decided to head back into the house to freshen up and change for the night.
Olivia dug through her clothes for something to wear for the night and finally settled for a short brown jumpsuit and her brown strapped heels.
She curled the ends of her blonde hair with the small curling iron she found in one of the boxes in the garage and wore her black hat, similar to the one Flynn had worn when she had stormed into the garage crying about how Julie couldn't give up music, Olivia laughed to herself as she reminisced about the memory.
"What are we laughing about?"
Olivia jumped at her brother's voice and smacked his arm with a laugh.
"Don't creep up on me like that! I swear you almost gave me a heart attack."
"Sorry" Alex chuckled, he sat down and watched as Olivia placed small hoop earrings through her ears.
"Hey, I have a question," Alex said.
"Shoot" Olivia turned around to face him once she finished putting on her earrings.
"Why did you forgive Luke? I mean he said some horrible stuff to you Livia." Alex asked with a frown.
"Look he apologized and you weren't there but it was a very heartfelt apology, I could tell he hated himself for saying what he did so I forgave him. But that doesn't mean he's fully regained my trust just yet." Olivia sighed as she sat next to Alex.
"Yeah ok I get that, but I also saw you guys holding hands when you returned so I'm assuming someone made a move?" Alex asked with a grin but Olivia shook her head.
"No, no moves. I mean he did write me a song though-"
"What!? Luke wrote you a song?" Alex asked with a grin.
"Yeah! And the best part is, it's called Olivia. Like the lyrics in the chorus are "I live for you I long for you Olivia" " The girl gushed and Alex snorted.
"Man, that boy has it bad for you." Olivia flushed red.
"Oh, and you don't have it down bad for a certain long-haired ghost?" Olivia sang and it was Alex's turn to flush red.
"Uh what? N-no what are you talking about-"
"Dude you have a crush on him"
"Do not"
"Do to"
"Do not"
"Do not"
"Do to- wait dammit Livia! You always trick me with that shit!" The two siblings laugh and Olivia rested her head on Alex's shoulder, his head leaned on hers.
"Sometimes I miss our parents," Olivia mumbled. Alex's heart couldn't help but break slightly.
"Yeah, sometimes I do too. But we have each other and honestly, you're all I need." Alex whispered as he kissed his sister's forehead causing her to smile.
"You're all I need too big brother."
"Okay Blondies, let's go get Julie!" Reggie announced as he entered the room, Luke following behind him.
The 4 ghosts poofed into the hallway of Julie's room, the boys grinned at each other as Reggie stuck his hand through the door and knocked from the inside.
"What are you guys doing?" Julie asked from inside her room, clearly trying to bite back a laugh.
"We're being classy," Reggie said as he stuck his head through the door, Olivia pulled him back with a shake of her head which caused Reggie to pout but he swung an arm around her nonetheless.
Luke walked into Julie's room first followed by Olivia and Reggie then lastly Alex, Julie was sitting on her bed and still not changed for the gig.
"Why are you still here? We're going on in like, 20 minutes." Luke asked.
Julie started to explain that her dad had grounded her earlier for lying and she couldn't leave her room.
"But we were just at the venue and it's packed. Like VIPS, managers, it's kinda crazy." Reggie grinned.
"What are we gonna do about my aunt? She's right downstairs." Julie said helplessly, Luke scoffed and made his way over to Julie's windows and opened them.
"You're not taking the stairs." Luke grinned, Julie stared at him with her jaw dropped in surprise. She glanced over at Olivia but the blonde shrugged with a smile.
Olivia had snuck out plenty of times before when she was grounded, she really couldn't say anything without being a hypocrite.
The Molina girl finally gave in and told them she would meet them there and with that, the ghosts poofed out.
~~~
By the time Julie had arrived, the ghosts walked over to meet her only to be met with the same group they had seen perform at Julie's school.
"Oh hey! It's the highlighters." Olivia said when she saw them, causing a laugh to erupt from their group.
As they all watched the girl group, Olivia had to hand it to them. Their song was catchy.
The ghosts watched the group with amused smiles while Flynn and Julie just watched annoyed.
Olivia's head bopped to the music and just as Carrie was about to finish her first verse, Alex disappeared from beside Reggie and appeared on stage behind Carrie.
Olivia laughed as Alex stared at the crowd wide-eyed, Julie glanced back at the ghosts confused but they all shrugged.
Olivia laughed and cheered as Alex started getting into the performance and started dancing with the girl group, following their moves exactly. Olivia just wished the crowd could see him, he was incredible.
Olivia couldn't stop smiling as her brother continued to dance with a grin on his face and Luke couldn't stop staring at the girl, she seemed so carefree and happy. He just wished she could feel that way for the rest of their lives.
Well, you couldn't call what they had lives but you know what I mean.
Just as Alex started getting into it, he poofed back to the group and stood beside Reggie, Olivia looked over at him with a raised brow and smile.
"You having fun out there?" Olivia laughed
"It's not my fault... it's my feet." Alex said nonchalantly and Julie nodded her head with a smile.
"Right"
"Put me back in coach." Alex breathed and there he was again, on stage beside Carrie.
Alex copied her moves exactly and to say he stole the spotlight was an understatement, he twirled and flipped his hair just like the girls did which just made the ghosts laugh more.
When the girls finally finished their last lyric, Alex stood at the front corner of the stage and posed with an adorable child-like beam. Olivia and the guys cheered and whooped for the drummer and the boy finally poofed back to their side.
"Hey, uhm... I was just- I was just doing it for you guys." Alex said bashfully.
"Mhmm, you can stop smiling now."
"Ok! It looks like we have one more closing group: Julie and the Fat ones." the announcer on stage said, causing laughter to ring out in the audience.
All of them groaned and turned to face Luke, the brunette licked his lips nervously.
"Seriously?" Alex deadpanned.
"Yeah man my handwriting sucks."
As Julie made her way up to the stage, Olivia couldn't help but fiddle with her fingers nervously. She had thought about performing on stage with them all day during rehearsal. She gave it a lot of thought and eventually she decided: if she wasn't going to face this fear now then when?
Now was as good a time as ever to start.
"Hi! It's actually "Julie and the Phantoms" " Julie corrected as she sat at the piano, but the crowd just remained silent causing the girl to mutter a small 'okay' before she started playing the keyboard.
FINALLY FREE BY JULIE AND THE PHANTOMS
As Julie started playing the intro of finally free, Olivia whipped around to face the ghosts. They all glanced between the blonde and Julie on stage, their parts coming up soon.
"Liv what is it?" Reggie asked.
She swallowed as she stared at their expectant eyes and breathed out a laugh as the words rushed out.
"I'm gonna do it- I'm gonna go on with you guys."
The boys stared at her for a moment, a millisecond, before they broke out into yells and shrieks.
To say they were proud of her was an understatement.
The audience was lucky they couldn't hear or see them, but Julie not so much.
The girl ignored them as they continued freaking out, all 3 boys crushed the girl into a tight group hug and the girl laughed as she released them.
"Ok come on, we have a gig to kill." Olivia grinned, and the boys grinned back just as wide.
"I wanna fly, come alive, watch me shine!"
Poof, the band was on stage with Julie and the crowd went haywire. Cheers erupted from the audience as Luke joined in with Julie on the chorus. Olivia stood beside Reggie, her guitar in hand.
For a while she froze as she gazed out at the sea of people, her fingers barely grazing the strings. Luke and Julie continued to sing but Reggie watched the girl worriedly, Olivia blinked as she adjusted her eyes to the bright lights.
Reggie nudged the girl and threw her a silly face, Olivia knew what he was doing and she was just glad it worked. She laughed at the boy and her fingers started moving across the guitar, her fear slowly slipping away and eventually completely disappearing.
Reggie and Olivia jammed out together side by side, head banging to the music as they played. Now and then Julie went over to jam out with them and Olivia would move over to Alex to jam with him.
As the chorus came to an end, Olivia expertly swung her guitar to the back so it was now lying on her back and she grabbed the mic off the stand as if she's done it many times before.
"We're all bright now, what a sight now. Coming out like we're fireworks. " Olivia's voice rang out strong and clear though the room and the crowd cheered louder for the girl and she grinned.
Luke made his way over to the girl, his fingers sliding over guitar chords expertly as he grinned at her. He went over to share her mic with her as he joined her for the
pre- chorus, his eyes never leaving hers for a second.
"We know we can make it if we're not falling under. Close my eyes and feel my chest beating like thunder." The two ghosts gazed deep into each other's eyes, both singing into the sole mic Olivia held between them.
It was as if Luke was moving closer to her as he played and they grinned at each other as they harmonized together for the last line.
"I wanna fly, come alive. Watch me shine!"
The 2 ghosts jumped apart to let Julie stand at the front again as she belted the chorus again, Luke and Olivia jammed out together on their guitars as Reggie went over to join them.
This. God how much Olivia has missed this, the feelings of performing, letting the music take over you.
She never wanted to lose that feeling ever again.
As Julie came to her last few lyrics, Olivia and Reggie stood together to strum the last few chords. Luke stood at Julie's left and when it was over the crowd stood up in a standing ovation, everyone going nuts for the band.
When the Phantoms took their final bow, the only sound ringing in their ears was the sweet applause they had ached to hear for years.
"We're Julie and the Phantoms, tell your friends"
