I sat in a breakfast restaurant, sipping on some coffee when the most unexpected person walked in the doors. Lin. I roll my eyes and avert them from her. She ordered coffee and noticed me. Once she got her coffee, she came to sit down across from me.
"You here to bug me again?" I ask. "No, I was hoping to find you. I wanted to ask you something." She says. I sigh and take a sip of my coffee. "And what could that be?" "Would you like to go to Ba Sing Se with me?" She asked. I almost choked on my coffee hearing her words. "Why are you asking me this? Don't you got other people to ask?" I ask. "Yes, but they're.. not my kind of people." She says. What'd she mean by "my kind of people"? I brushed it off and set my cup down. "Do I have time to think about it?" "No. It's just a yes or no question." I groan softly and rub my eyes. "Why are you going there in the first place?" I ask.
"Zaheer and his gang are back out to get Korra." She said. "What?" I asked shocked. "If were leaving to stop him then yes, I'm going." I said. "Okay then, let's go." Lin says standing up, taking her coffee with her.
I follow her outside and to her car.
-
We were on our way to Ba Sing Se in a police blimp.
I took my armor off and set it on the floor, then took off my long sleeve shirt, leaving me in a tank top and my dark red pants. I bunched up my shirt and used it as a pillow. I just laid there in peace and quiet.
On the way to the police station earlier, Lin told me more about the new Airbenders and that there were more of them scattered all over the Earth Kingdom, and that's why Korra and her friends left to go find them. Could there really be new Airbenders? Aang would be so happy right now if heard about this.
later
"Get up, were here." Lin said shaking me not so gently. I swat her hand away and sit up. I grabbed my long sleeve shirt and put it on, along with my armor. I looked up and noticed Lin looking at me. She quickly looked away and walked towards the blimp door.
"Come on." She said. I sigh and followed her to wherever we had to go.
"So about Zaheer, is he an airbender now?" I ask. "Yeah." She nods. "great." I say.
We passed by the Earth Queen, who just glared at me. I stick my tongue out at her and her jaw dropped and she frowned. I chuckle and Lin look looked at me.
"What?" She asked. "Oh, nothing." I smile to myself.
We approached double doors and Lin knocked on them. After a few seconds the door opened, revealing Tenzin.
"Lin? Keira? What are you doing here?" Tenzin asked.
"We need to get Korra out of here immediately. Her life is in danger." Lin said.
"What?" Korra asked. "Whats going on?" She asks waking over to Tenzin and Lin.
"I just got word from Lord Zuko and Tonraq." "Why is Lord Zuko with my dad?" "Zaheer and the other have escaped." I said. "How is that possible?" Tenzin asked. I felt a tap on my shoulder and turned around to see Asami.
"Hey, whats going on?" She asked pulling me aside.
"Alright, hold on!" Korra yelled. "Will you quit ignoring me and tell me whats going on? Who's Zaheer and why is my life in danger?" She asked.
Tenzin looked at Lin and I then to Korra. He sighed and closed his eyes before talking. "Shortly after we found out you were the Avatar, Zaheer and three others attempted to kidnap you. Luckily, your father, Lord Zuko, Keira, Chief Sokka and I were there to stop them." Korra looked at me once she heard my name but turned her attention back to Tenzin. "We apprehended the criminals and locked then away in prisons designed to impair their abilities." Tenzin said. "So thats whys you and my dad sheltered me away." "It was for your own safety." Tenzin replied.
"Why were they trying to kidnap Korra?" Mako asked, stepping forward.
"We spent 13 years interrogating them, but they never broke. To this day no one knows what their motive was. Keira threatened to kill them if they didnt speak up. She ended up almost killing Zaheer." Lin said. Korra looked at me and I gave a cheesy smile. "She's not wrong. Lightning is no joke." I chuckle.
"Now, we need to get you back to Republic City, where I can protect you." Lin said stepping forward. "No, I'm not running." Korra said. "Korra, you don't understand, these criminals are like nothing you've ever faced before." "Look, I'm not a little kid anymore. You don't need to protect me. I came here for one thing, to find airbenders, and I'm not leaving without them." Korra said. "Fine, let's get 'em and get out of here. Where are they?" Lin asked. "In a military compound, and were busting them out." Korra said.
"Finally, I can go back to breaking the law." I say, earning a look from everyone. Lin sighed and held the bridge of her nose. "I'm joking, y'all take me seriously." "Considering, you've committed numerous crimes, yes, were going to take you seriously." Lin said.
"Crimes? What crimes?" Bolin asked. "Crimes that got me kicked out the fire nation." I said. He looked at me blankly. I looked between everyone who still had their eyes on me.
"Can we go so you guys can stop staring at me like I did something wrong?" I ask shrugging and holding my arms out.
"What haven't you done wrong?" Lin asked, crossing her arms. I frowned and took a step closer to her, towering over her. I put my hands behind my back and looked in both her eyes. I felt everyone's eyes on us. "Oh, I've done everything wrong and I know I have." I say. Lin moved her leg and I flew backwards. I sprung up and brushed my shoulder armor off.
I'm assuming Lin used the concrete from under the wooden floor, since theres no possible way to bend wood.
"You wanna fight, don't you?" I ask. "Yes, I do." She said. "Alright then, bring it Beifong." I smirk. Tenzin stopped us from fighting by standing between us. "You two shouldn't be fighting." He said.
"Yeah, I thought you two were friends?" Korra asked. "We were friends, but that friendship ended a long time ago thanks to her." Lin said, pointing at me.
"Honestly, I should've never came with you. I knew it was a bad idea." I said.
I walked to the door and stormed out. I walked over to the ledge and took a seat, dangling my feet over the small edge.
Lin can really hold a grudge, that's one thing I dont like about her. The fact she said it was my fault, which it was. I moved away without telling anyone. I had to come back when my mother got out of the mental hospital. I took care of her for a while to make sure she didnt go insane again, which she didnt.
I thought it was a good idea I came back to Republic City. I was more than happy to see everyone, but one wasnt happy to see me.
I held one leg into my chest and rested my arm on my knee. I started making little figures with my flames, using the blue for the shadows. I made a flame of a memory I had with Lin. Her and I were training with Lord Zuko and Aang. I forced my hand into a fist, watching the flames fly up in a dust like way. I looked at the small river below me and saw some fish. I crossed my legs stuck my finger in the water and a fish came up to it. It circled around my finger a few times until I moved. He followed wherever my finger went. It's either hungry or trying to bite me. I chuckle as I watch the fish chase my finger. I take my finger out of the water and shake the water off.
later
I was staring at the reflection of the moon in the river until someone interrupted me. "Hey, you've been out here for five hours, are you okay?" Korra asked me, causing me to turn around. "Yeah, I'm fine. What do you want?" I ask, trying my best to sound nice. "I was wondering if you wanted to come with us to bust these airbenders out. If you don't, you'll be stuck with Beifong the entire time." She says. "I'll go." I say turning back to the water.
"May I ask what happened with you and miss cranky pants?" She asks. I chuckle due to the fact she called Lin miss cranky pants. "Sure. You want the full story or the short one?" I ask. "Tell me everything." She said and sat down next to me. "You sure?" "Yep." She nods. I sigh and prepare myself for something I haven't talked about in years.
"Before I begin, do you know who I am?" I ask. "No." She shakes her head. "I'm Azula's daughter." I said, earning a shocked look from her.
"Anyway, when Lin and I were kids, we were the best of friends, inseparable. We did everything together. Well, almost everything. One day, Lord Zuko came to me saying my mother was getting out of the mental asylum, so I had to leave. I didn't tell anyone, I just up and left. When Lin found out, she was furiously upset. She wrote me letters but I never wrote back, and I really regret not writing back to her. I read maybe two of them out of the 30 she sent me. My mother told me I was able to go out on my own, so I did. I became a criminal. Before I became a criminal, I would get dirty looks from people, only because my mother was Azula. Instead of them giving me dirty looks, I made them run from me and fear me. Some guards caught me walking around the city and took me to Izumi. She kicked me out the Fire Nation and I came here. I came across Lin and decided to say hi. Let's say she wasnt to happy to see me. She's always been upset because I left. And now that I'm a criminal, she doesn't trust me." I say. Korra looked really interested in what I was saying.
"Is that all?" She asked. "Yeah." I nod. "Aw man. That was a good story though." She smiled. I shrug. "I thought she would've been happier to see me, but turns out she wasnt too happy." I chuckle. "I'm sure she'll get over it." She puts her hand on my shoulder.
"Korra, its time." Tenzin said. Korra nodded. "Keira is coming with." She said and Tenzin nodded. We walked back inside and it was warmer than outside.
I looked around and saw Lin with her head in her hands. I went to walk over to her but Asami stopped me. "I wouldn't. She's not in a good mood." She said. "Of course she isn't." I roll my eyes and walk away.
-
We all watched as Jinora made her way to the side of the wall and pretended to run into the guards.
"Hi." She gives a quick wave.
"Hey! What are you doing here?" The one on the left asked. "Aw, it's just that little airbender girl who came with the Avatar. You shouldn't be walking around here all alone." The other guy said.
We quickly and quietly made our way behind them and put our fists up.
"I'm not alone." Jinora said and pointed to us.
Korra kicked one of the men into the wall, knocking him out. Tenzin sent a gust of wind at the other guy, sending him flying and dropping the light. Jinora tied them up and caught up with us.
We made our way into the building. There was a staircase that led down and two ways that led straight on both sides.
"I hear footsteps." I whisper.
We ran into a staircase tunnel to hide. We pressed against the wall and watched the two men walk by.
"Bumi, Korra, and Keira, you three will come with to find the airbenders. You three find Kai. We'll meet on the surface shortly. Radio us if anything goes wrong." Tenzin says.
We ran out the tunnel and down the staircase that led to a hallway. We made our way to the only door and Korra bent it open.
One of the men lying in the beds turned around to look at us.
"What's going on? Who are you?" He asked rubbing his eyes.
"I'm the Avatar, and I'm getting you all put of here." Korra said.
"We're leaving?"
"Where are we going?"
"Everyone, please, you must stay calm and quiet if we want this to work." Tenzin says. "What to work? Were sneaking out?" The guy asked.
"Yes, and we must leave now." I say.
"Were going to get you away from the earth queen and out of this city." Tenzin said.
We three of us walked out the room and stepped to the side. I leaned against the wall and Bumi picked up the Radio phone.
"There's an airbender that's not here. His name is Kai. We need to get him." The last man said. "Were already taking care of it." Tenzin says.
"Topside, this is papa bear." Bumi said causing me to look down at him. "The breezies are in the hold. Cue the balloons." He said.
"What? Are you in trouble?" Lin asked from the other Lin. "No!" Bumi whisper yelled. "We got the airbenders, and were headed out. Bring the airships." He said leaning back and looking up, sighing. "No one likes code names anymore." Bumi said.
"Copy that. Asami and I are on our way." Lin said.
"Do you like code names, Keira?" Bumi asked looking at me. "Sorta." I shrug. "At least someone likes them." He says. I chuckle. "You know Lin was never fond on those." I say. "Yeah, I know." He sighs again.
"Can I call you topside?" He asked. "Sure. I'll call you papa bear then." I give a small smile. He smiled and hugged me. I patted his back.
"Come on you two, let's go." Tenzin said.
We left and made our way to the roof of the building.
Korra looked around to make sure no one was there. "Come on, it's clear." She says. We ran out but a gang of earthbender guards jumped in front of us. Another set came from the stairs.
"So you've discovered my elite army." The earth queen said once a guard moved out the way. "I see their loyalty still needs some work." She said.
"These airbenders shouldn't be used as weapons. They have the right to choose their own paths." Korra said.
"These airbenders are Earth Kingdom citizens, and I am their queen." She says walking closer to us but eventually stopping. "Taking them will constitute an act of war. If you disobey me, I will bear down on you with the entire force of my kingdom!" She yelled.
"They're leaving with me." Korra argued.
"No, they're not!" The queen argued back. She turned around and threw her hand outz telling the guards to attack us.
They threw their rock hand guards at us and the airbenders flung them out the way. They continued to use their bending as huge gusts of wind. Korra and Tenzin jumped in to help.
"Come on!" Bumi yelled.
I used fire jets and flew up to the ship and helped the airbenders into the airship.
I helped the last one in and Bumi climbed in.
"Everyone's in. Let's go." He said into the radio phone.
I made my way to the control room and stood next to Lin.
She knew I was there but didn't look at me.
I sigh and lean against the wall.
"I'm sorry about earlier." I say. She didn't say anything and kept staring out the window. "Ignore me all you want. I know you can hear me." I said. I leaned of the wall and went to walk away.
"Keira, wait." Lin said. I turn on on heels and she was looking at me.
"What? You gonna tell me to go back to Republic City?" I ask. "No," She shakes her head. "I should be the one saying sorry. I started the argument. You were trying to be funny and I took it too seriously. I'm sorry." She says. I look at her for a moment. "It's fine." I say putting my hands behind my back.
"And," She began and walked a little closer. "I'm actually glad you came back. I knew I acted like a bitch and I'm sorry for that too." She took another step closer to me.
Lin wrapped her arms around my neck and hugged me. I hesitate for a moment, only because I'm not used to her hugs anymore. I move my arms from behind my back and wrap my arms around her waist, hugging her back.
"It's good to see you, Keira." She said. "It's good to see you too." I smile.
-
I took my armor off and set it on the couch. Lin came over and bent her amor off, leaving her in a tank top. She grabbed my armor and put it on.
"How do I look?" She asked. I chuckle and stand up. I took the shoulder armor off of her and turned it around then placed it back over her head. "It was on backwards." I say. "Kinda figured that." She says.
I step back a few steps and look at her. I raise my hands up and act like I'm taking a picture. "Click." I say. "Did you really just say click?" Lin asked. "Yes." I chuckle and cross my arms.
"Honestly, you look kinda hot with my armor on." I say checking her out. Her cheeks turned red and she blinked a few times.
"You guys ready to- why are you in her armor?" Korra asked.
Lin and I snapped our heads at Korra.
"I don't know." Lin shrugged.
"Anyway, we're ready to go." Korra said. Lin bent my armor off and put hers back on. She walked to the control panel and lifted the airship. And with that, we left.
