- With Ray and Norman

"Ray, I'm sorry for asking you this, but..." Norman sighed and looked over at his dark-haired friend.

Ray lifted his head up to look at his friend, closing his locker. "Hm?"

Norman leaned closer and spoke quietly so none of the surrounding students would hear. "Do you have feelings for Y/n? Be honest, I won't tell anybody."

"What?" Ray was flabbergasted. "No, of course not. Why?"

Norman leaned back and returned to his normal tone of voice. "I see. Sorry for making an assumption. It's just that the two of you have been spending a lot of time together lately. It's hard to tell with you two. One second you're all friendly and flirty and the next you're on the verge of a fistfight." He laughed nervously.

Ray scoffed. "That's just teasing. I do enjoy being her friend, honestly."

Norman smiled lightly as they made their way out of the school entrance.

- With Y/n and Emma

"Emma, why'd you make me wait here with you? I'm going to miss the train."

"Oh shush, you'll be there on time. What time does it leave anyways?" Emma stood on her tiptoes attempting to overlook the crowd for her drive home, biting her lip.

Y/n checked her watch and let out a groan of frustration. "It left at 4:10 pm."

"Left?" Emma looked over at the h/c girl and returned to her natural balance.

The girl nodded. "It's 4:16 pm."

The friend gasped. "Ahhh! I'm so sorry, I'm a terrible and selfish person! I don't deserve your company!" She grabbed ahold of her friend's arm and buried her head into it.

"Calm down Emma. I'll just walk home, it's not a big deal." The girl laughed.

"Yes, it is! I'm so stupid, sorry! Norman will drive you home." She lifted her head up and smiled.

"Oh, does Y/n need a drive?" Norman and Ray approached the two girls.

"No, Y/n does not need a drive." The e/c-eyed girl sighed and inhaled the cool winter air. "I can walk, I prefer walking anyway."

"Are you sure?" Ray asked.

She nodded, "Thank you though, for the offer. Bye!" She smiled and adjusted the scarf around her cold neck.

The three waved her goodbye and watched as she left the school parking lot. "Need a drive, Ray?" Norman looked at his friend.

"No thank you," Ray answered and began to walk off, waving behind his back.

"Bye Ray!" Emma called out before hopping into the car with Norman.

Y/n walked down the familiar streets, kicking pebbles as she walked. She glanced at the buildings passing by. Small shops, townhouses, tall apartment buildings, things like that. The sun was beginning to set as it was now winter and the days were shorter. The cool breeze blew through her h/c hair. She couldn't help but stop when she saw that a new bookstore had opened up. She did enjoy reading, after all.

She traced her fingers along the brand-new bookshelves, scanning the books she passed. "They're all new," She mumbled softly. She picked up a book, and read the title. "I want to eat your pancreas. Huh, that sounds weird." She spoke quietly under her breath.

( Bro that was the best book I've ever read )

"I want to eat your pancreas? What's that about?" A familiar ravenette boy leaned over her shoulder examining the book in her hands.

"Did you follow me or something?" She blew a strand of hair out of her face and puffed out her cheeks.

"No, I just decided to check out the new bookstore. I'm in need of a new book to read." He reached over her head and pulled out a random book.

"You? Read?" She scoffed.

"Yes, me, read." He flipped the book over and began to read the back cover.

"Huh, I guess I should have guessed that. You are very smart and all."

"Thanks, I guess." He let out a 'tch' sound.

She moved out of his way and read the back of the book she had picked up earlier. She flipped to the first chapter labeled 'zero' and couldn't restrain herself from reading the first sentence. "Oh." She said.

"What?" He lifted his eyes from the book and stared at her with a blank expression.

"She died." She looked up at him.

"Did you... just spoil that whole book for yourself?" He stifled a chuckle by chewing on his cheek.

"No, I don't think so. It's the very first sentence, see?" She held up the book to his face and pointed to the first sentence.

"Okay, okay. I see it." He sighed and pushed the book down, looking to the side.

She raised an eyebrow after they stood there in silence for a moment. "Are you feeling alright?"

"Um, yeah?" He mumbled.

She tilted her head and made a frustrated face. "You're not acting like your usual self."

He shrugged his shoulders. "Sorry?"

She sighed having given up, and held the book to her chest, grabbing another and read the blue back. She ended up putting it back and headed to the checkout. She left the store with the white fabric bag in hand, taking one last glance at Ray before she left. She shook her head and exited the store.

"Woah, Woah, Woah! Look at this one boys!"

Y/n continued walking as she hadn't realized they were talking about her.

"She's cute! Is that a school uniform? She's a high school girl!"

She listened to the group of three guys speak, praying that they weren't talking about her.

"Is that a bookstore bag she's carrying? She must be smart."

Y/n sped up, wanting to reach her house as quickly as possible. She didn't want to deal with this, not tonight.

"Hey, where you going?" The three caught up to her and begun to corner her into an ally.

"None of your business." She spat out.

"She's feisty, I like them tough."

"She's cute. You got a boyfriend?"

Before she could reply, a tall boy shoved the three to the side and grabbed the girl's hand. "Yeah, she does. Me."

She lifted her eyes to him. 'Ray?'

The tall boy wrapped his arm around her and pulled her close. "You shouldn't pick on girls, you know." He didn't even look at them, just simply walked away with his arm still around the girl.

It wasn't until they reached the outside of the h/c girls when they finally spoke. "Thank you." Y/n pulled away from him and sighed.

"Yeah, of course."

"Wait, did you follow me?" She crossed her arms with a stern look on her face.

He rolled his eyes and gripped the strap of his backpack. "Yeah, but so what? I just came to apologize for sounding rude, I'm just tired. And you should stop being so ungrateful. If it wasn't for me you could've been assaulted." He closed his eyes and shook his head with disbelief.

"Yeah, whatever." She groaned and walked away.

"Ungrateful!" He cupped his mouth with his hands and shouted.

"Perverted stalker!" She replied before slamming the front door shut.

Norman was right. These two really did have an odd relationship.
