"Mom, it isn't my fault, I swear!" Y/n groaned and poked at the carrots on her plate.

"You brought her to that party!" The mother sighed and rubbed her forehead, resting her arm on the dining table.

"Only because you made me! How was I supposed to know she'd run away from the house and try to rob a convenience store!?" Y/n leaned back in her chair crossing her arms.

"You were supposed to watch her, now she's on her way home! You're so irresponsible."

"She's 17, she can watch herself! Besides, it's not like she even got anywhere by running full speed into a glass door with a broken plastic fork!" She hid a chuckle.

The mother sighed and covered her face, then pointed at the stairs. "Your room, go, now."

"Gladly." Y/n pushed herself up out of her chair and stomped her way into her room. She plopped down onto her bed and turned on her side, reaching for the switch for her orange salt lamp that sat on her cluttered nightstand. She was too tired to read, or go on her phone, so she just laid there until she eventually fell asleep still in her clothes from the day earlier.

-October 26th, Saturday, 5 days before Halloween

"There are only 5 days until Halloween, and we STILL don't have costumes." The ginger blew a strand of hair out of her face and aggressively typed away at her black laptop.

"That's plenty of time." Y/n smiled, laying on her best friend's bed on her stomach, resting her chin on the palm of her hand.

"Yeah, maybe we just shouldn't dress up Emma." Ray sat on the edge of the girl's twin bed.

"NO! NO WAY! I've dressed up every single year, even when I was sick!" Emma shouted and sprang out of her chair with frustration.

"Well, then you can dress up, and the rest of us will just cheer you on."

Emma groaned and fell face-first onto her bed. "But you have to dress up! I hate being the only one."

"I'll dress up with you Emma." Norman sat between Emma and Ray, patting Emma on her back.

"Really?" Emma lifted her face to look at Norman, her eyes lighting up from his words.

He nodded. "We should go today before all the good costumes are gone."

"Then let's go!" Emma jumped up from the bed and pulled Norman with her, running out the door completely ignoring Y/n and Ray.

"Is she upset that we don't want to dress up, or did she genuinely forget we were here?" Y/n sat up and looked over at Ray.

"I honestly can't tell, she's so random." He chuckled.

"She really is, isn't she? I find it funny how Norman just goes along with whatever she says."

"It's because he'd do anything for her, he's obsessed. He's been like that since we were kids, he's always liked her." He laughed.

"Always?"  She laughed along with him.

He nodded, "Boys would tell him about how they had a crush on Emma when we were young, and he'd tell them embarrassing things about her to scare them off."

"Well, that's a dick thing to do." She chuckled.

"I agree, but it's good that we know he'll love her no matter what. He loves her for her."

"You're right on that one." She laughed. "Hey, maybe it would be kind of fun to dress up. You and I should match!"

He stared at her. "What, like as a couple?" He raised an eyebrow and smirked.

She immediately buried her head into her knees in embarrassment. "No! As friends, you knew what I meant." Y/n panicked.

"Calm down, I was only kidding. I knew what you meant." The dark-haired boy laughed.

"Pervert." She mumbled into her knees.

"What was that?" He leaned closer, stifling a laugh.

"I said, we should go get costumes now. There's this new seasonal shop in the town by my house, it won't be a far walk." She lifted her head up with a smile plastered on her face.

"We should take a train instead, it'll be a lot quicker."

"A train? But it won't be that far of a walk, and-"

Ray rolled his eyes and sighed. "No, let's go. I'm too lazy to walk that far." He stood up and grabbed her hands, pulling the girl to her feet, dragging her out the door.

"Since when was there a train station by Emma's house?" Y/n questioned, tilting her head and staring at the entrance of the building.

"Since always, you must not walk this way often."

"Never, actually."

"I see, well, it's not the main station anyways. It's just one of the places it stops at." The green-eyed boy spoke while entering the building, buying two tickets from the ticket booth.

Y/n looked around the crowded station, patiently waiting for the boy. She saw mostly older couples, as teenagers preferred to walk to their destinations. But since these people have aged, they struggle to walk long distances. The e/c-eyed girl found it sweet how these elders were still with their significant others. She wondered if she'd ever find someone like that, someone she'd spend the rest of her life with. She also wondered if these people had always been together. Had they met in their teen years, in their early twenties? Maybe they had just met a few years ago, hell, maybe even a week! 'Wait,' She thought, 'Why am I imagining these people's lives? This isn't something I normally do. I don't like getting too involved with others.'

She was awoken from her train of thought."Y/n, are you alright?" Ray gently placed a hand on her shoulder with a worried expression shown on his face.

She slowly turned to face him, before smiling. "Oh, yeah. I'm fine, just zoned out. Now, let's go get on the train before it leaves without us, shall we?" She lifted her eyes up at him.

The worried expression was still on the tall boy's face before it turned into a slight smile. "Right, let's go." They walked side-by-side to their train.

"Oh, I'll pay you back later, by the way."

"There's no need for that, it's on me." He blinked and entered the train.

"What? No! I insist!" The girl glared at him with a look of determination and sat beside him, placing her backpack on her lap.

"I won't accept your money, no matter how many times you try. So, no need in trying." He closed his eyes and rested his head on the wall of the moving train.

She bit her lip, then grunted looking away from him with her arms crossed. The train was quiet with old people dozing off and a group of children planning their next sleepover. The sun was just setting now, so it'd be around this time people would typically begin to get tired. Even though the darkness would soon grow over the small town, the different shades of orange and pink still filled the sky. Y/n looked out her window at the outdoor scenery passing by. When they arrived at the next station after a short ride, it had been even more crowded than the other.

"Must be around 7-ish," Ray spoke softly as the two slowly made their way through the crowd of people hurrying to get home.

"How'd you know that?" The girl looked at him, gripping her backpack straps.

"Because it's a Saturday, and people are typically out more. Teenagers and children are returning home for dinner after a day of hanging out with friends, and adults are hurrying to get home after a long day's work."

The girl looked forward as they left the station. "You can tell all of that by just looking at a crowd of people?"

The boy nodded, "Mhm, I guess so. I've done it my whole life."

"Interesting." Said Y/n as they approached the seasonal shop. "I do hope they have good costumes left, there are only 5 days left until Halloween."

"There'll be something for us, don't you worry." Ray pushed open the glass door, holding it open for his friend.

"So, you got any costume ideas?" She glanced at him before rummaging through the racks of different costumes.

"No, how about you?" He looked at her tilting his head, helping her search the racks.

"I've got nothing. I guess we'll just have to see what they have." She sighed.

"I guess so." He replied.

"What about this one?" The h/c girl held up 2 costumes, a prince and a princess.

"A prince and a princess? Isn't that a couple's costume?" Ray looked over the clothing racks at her, raising an eyebrow.

"Oops, it is!" She laughed nervously and quickly hung them back up, scanning the shelves and racks.

"Idiot." He sighed.

"Oh shut it. Simple mistake."

"Sure it was." He stifled a laugh. "After school, you should start taking a train home soon. It's getting colder."

"Worried about me, are you?"

"Not one bit. I just don't want the girl that pays me to babysit to die, I'd have to get another job!"

"Haha, funny." She said with a blank expression.

He smirked, looking across the store at something that caught his eye. "Oh. my. god."

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just had a BRILLIANT idea." A grin appeared on his face as he rushed towards the back of the store.

Y/n followed him. "So what is this brilliant idea you have?"

He turned around to face her, holding up two wigs. One was a white short-haired one that was almost identical to their albino friends' hair, the other was a ginger, short but also long wig.

"You're a genius." The girl's eyes lit up with excitement, having to restrain herself from wrapping her arms around the brilliant boy.

Y/n and Ray's costumes were complete. They both wore the wigs. Y/n wore a black tight t-shirt with a pair of light-blue ripped mom jeans, as that was the sort of thing Emma wears. Ray wore a pair of khakis and a vintage 'dad' sweater. They often teased Norman about the fact that he dresses like a middle-aged father, but secretly they all adored his style. Instead of going to a party, the four friends decided to just hang out at Emma's house this Halloween. They'd eat candy and watch horror movies.

"I can't wait to see the look on their faces once they see our costumes!" Y/n giggled as the two stood outside the Ginger's front door.

"I know, it'll be priceless. It's a bit scary though, you look so similar to Emma." Ray chuckled and knocked on the red door.

"I'll probably take this wig off once we show them our costumes, it's itchy." The e/c-eyed girl scrunched her nose.

"Same," Ray spoke before the door opened, revealing an 11-year-old boy with dark brown hair and blue eyes.

"Y/n, Ray!" The boy squealed. "I didn't know the two of you were friends!"

"We aren't, Phil." Ray chuckled.

"Ignore him, we are," Y/n assured the boy and smiled.

Phil giggled and pushed the door open wide for them to enter. "Come in! Emma and Norman are in the basement. Oh, by the way, are you two dressed as Norman and Emma?" He questioned.

"Yes, we are!" Ray smirked.

"That's funny, Emma will laugh at that." Phil laughed before running off. "Okay, have fun! I'm going trick or treating with Sherry now!"

"Be careful kid!" Y/n called out before walking down the basement stairs.

"BOO!" Emma jumped out from around the corner, scaring Y/n and Ray half to death.

Ray shrieked. "EMMA! YOU CAN'T JUST SCARE PEOPLE LIKE THAT!"

The three all laughed at his reaction. "You scream like a girl." Y/n placed her hand on her stomach as she had grown a pain from laughing too hard.

"I hate you, so much." Ray groaned and bonked her on the head.

"Ow."

"Hey, wait a minute." Emma grabbed Norman's hand and pulled him back, examining the two's costumes, then gasped. "HEY, YOU'RE DRESSED AS ME!" She shouted with excitement.

"Sure am." Y/n giggled.

"And you're dressed like me! You can't pull off the dad look though, only I can pull that off." Norman laughed, patting Ray on the back.

"I don't know, I think I can pull it off. What do you think, Y/n?" He turned to the girl.

"It's ugly. Everything you wear is ugly."

"Oh? So would you prefer if I wore nothing?" He teased.

Norman and Emma could swear the girl's face had become so red from blushing she could be confused with a tomato.

"NONONONOONNONOONONOONOO! NOT WHAT I MEANT! CALM DOWN THERE, BUDDY!" She shouted covering her face with embarrassment.

He laughed and patted her head. "It's fun to tease you."

"I. hate. you." She groaned and sat on the couch.

"You know you love me." He sat beside her.

"You always say that, and each time I have a debate in my head whether or not it's true."

He shook his head and stifled a laugh.

"Oh, I forgot! Do you guys like our costumes? We're Peter Pan and Wendy Darling!" Emma grinned and did a little twirl in her blue nightgown.

"You look pretty, like a princess." Y/n smiled and tossed the ginger wig to the side, Ray copying her and throwing his.

"See Ray? They did a couple's costume, and they aren't dating!" Y/n blew a strand of hair out of her face.

"Oh come on, that's not fair. This is Norman and Emma we're talking about. They practically are dating."

"Oh, you're right."

Emma and Norman both began to blush furiously and wave their hands in the air. "STOP SAYING THAT! WE AREN'T DATING! AND AREN'T YOU TWO DRESSED AS US? THEN THAT MEANS YOU'RE 'DATING' TOO!"

"Oh, I guess we are, aren't we?" Ray leaned closer to Y/n, teasing her like always.

She shoved a pillow in his face. "Not in a million years."

Ray pushed the pillow down and smirked. "I'm willing to wait that long for you."

She groaned and leaned back into the couch, covering her face.

The rest of the night they watched horror movies and ate a lot of junk food until they began to feel sick. They all left at around 12, going their separate ways and heading home.

Well, that was eventful.
