( 038. 'airport' )

THE MORNING LIGHT was soft, gently seeping through the curtains, casting a warm, golden glow across the room. ariella stirred, still lost in the comfort of sleep, her body curled up under the covers. the faint hum of the air conditioning and the sound of waves crashing against the shore were the only things she could hear in the peaceful quiet of the room.

but then, a voice broke through the calm, soft but insistent.

"ariella," Walker whispered, his voice warm and familiar. "hey, ari, wake up."

ariella groaned softly, burying her face deeper into the pillow. the exhaustion of the past few days had finally caught up to her. she wasn't ready for the trip to end, not yet.

but walker's hand gently brushed her curls away from her face, and his soft laugh pulled her from the last bits of sleep.

"come on," he coaxed, "it's time to go. your mom said our flight's in a couple of hours. You don't want to miss the plane, do you?"

ariella mumbled something, still clinging to the warmth of the bed. she felt the comforting weight of walker's hand resting on her arm, and for a moment, she just wanted to stay like that forever. the world outside didn't seem to matter.

but her BOYFRIEND wasn't having it. (yes i'm dragging it i've worked 38 chapters for this, who gonna do something about it?)

"i'll even carry you to the airport if you want," he teased, his voice full of that playful tone she loved so much.

ariella laughed, her eyes still closed as she shifted under the covers. "five more minutes, please?" she muttered, though there was a small smile on her lips.

walker chuckled. "we both know you'll fall back asleep if i give you that. you're too comfortable."

ariella finally opened one eye, peeking out at him from beneath her blanket. "walker," she groaned, "we were just on vacation. why does it feel like i need a vacation from the vacation?"

he laughed, low and affectionate. "i get it. butttt, we still have a long day ahead of us. you can rest on the plane. i promise."

with a very long dramatic sigh, ariella finally pushed herself up, she caught a glimpse of Walker's amused expression and couldn't help but smile.

"i look like a mess," she muttered, running a hand through her tangled curls.

"you're beautiful," he said, leaning down to press a quick kiss to her forehead.

ariella smiled, her heart fluttering already at 6 in the morning.

"alright," she said, finally dragging herself out of bed. "im up. but you owe me a frappee at the airport. and maybe a croissant. and tru fru"

"id buy the whole bakery if thats what you wanted," Walker said, already moving to grab his things.

ariella laughed and stretched, her body still heavy with sleep. "deal."

it didn't take long before both of them were dressed and ready to head out. ariella grabbed her phone and checked the timeβ€”still plenty of time before they had to leave for the airport. she went over to the mirror and did a quick check of her hair, smoothing out the tangles and throwing it into a messy bun with some gel on the front and doing some quick edges that she knew would look cute anyway.

"goodmorningg" she muttered, taking a picture of her and walker, who was already looking way too good this hour.

"you look cute," walker said, sliding up behind her, his chin resting on her shoulder as he peered at the screen. "but you're not fooling anyone. that messy bun was very much so planned."

"girl," she protested, sticking her tongue out at him. "uhmmm, no this took like 5 seconds"

walker smiled, shaking his head. "i think girls just like pretending they don't spend hours getting ready. but that's okay. i like messy bun ariella, straight hair ariella, curly hair ariella, i just like ariella i dont know."

"yes yes, join the club" she said, pulling away from the mirror and grabbing her bag. "ok ok walkie let's go."

the drive to the airport was filled with the hum of conversation, ariella sat beside walker, her hand resting in his, fingers intertwined, one thing about her was she was in literally love with the way he held her hand.

as the airport came into view, ariella's stomach did a little flip. she hated the thought of leaving. this trip had been perfect, and now it was time to leave. the airport to her was always a bittersweet place, marking the end of something special.

"i'm gonna miss this place," she said quietly, glancing out the window as they pulled up to the terminal.

walker squeezed her hand, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "ill miss it too. but i'm pretty sure we'll be back."

ariella smiled at that, though it was laced with a hint of sadness. "yeah... someday."

"ok lets check in" he replied, grinning. "and then, let's get you a caramel frappe with extra caramel drizzle and extra caramel on top made with almond milk before you start being depressed."

she smiled. "is that your way of saying you know me too well?"

walker winked at her, causing her to almost faint "mmm, something like that."
