Despite the fact that I went to bed so late, I woke up early for some odd reason. I groaned as a mild headache bothered me at the same time. I grumpily rubbed my head,
'Damn.. I'm not sick am I..?' I quickly placed a hand on my neck and forehead to check for symptoms. It wasn't hot so that gave me a relief, I really didn't want to get sick again, especially at this time.
"Did Dabi leave..?" I mumbled to myself, lifting my head from the sheets to check the couch.
This was in vain, my view was still hazy. My eyes were still clouded with the need to sleep, and any second they could shut. I rubbed my eyes and my vision cleared,
A faint figure on the couch, softly heaving up and down.
"He's still there..." I whispered, I plopped back unto the bed. And I shut my eyes,
Unfortunately for me, even though my system was tired - the back of my mind ushered me to grab my phone and mindlessly scroll through it.
Despite the curiosity, I simply glanced at the digital clock on the bedside table..
'4 AM....'
I sighed, turning on my other side changing positions and snuggling into the sheets deeper. "I'll just sleep some more..." My mouth mumbled quietly.
.
.
I haven't fallen asleep, and I was actually about to grab my phone but my actions were paused. Because I heard Dabi get up.
It wasn't anything special, he probably got up and stretched as I heard, and silently yawned.
The balcony glass door, slid against the frame to be opened, and I heard the surpressed footsteps that stepped out, and then the final slide to close the door.
And just like that he was gone.
.
.
But not this time.
Even though I was in the mood for bed a few minutes ago, I was shaken out of my half asleep state, driven by absolute curiosity.
'Where does Dabi go?'
Unfortunately for him, he ended up with a nosy girl. Me. Will I regret it? Maybe.. I can't help but just not let him off the hook so easily.
Maybe my motives were weak, but something told me to move - maybe it was the universe who pushed me out of bed.
It felt like I was a piece of iron getting attracted to magnet, which was Dabi. I had to know, to see whether he suffered. And if the heavens permit, I could help him..
'This time I'm going to help him.'
I know, I'm stubborn. That idea still hasn't left me.
I sucked in a breathe as I bended a stream of water to my handy bottle, just in case for any emergency.
I've been practicing, like using it to fetch some stuff or just making it dance around, in ways where it was elegant and not uncoordinated - Where it was controlled and I was the one in charge.
Sometimes when I could go out in the morning, I trained harder in a secluded area. It's not big, but atleast I learnt something new.
I didn't waste any time and followed after his steps, clumsily. As soon as I stepped out I pathetically almost tripped - nonetheless I picked myself back up and went on, using the thin layer of moisture on the ground to make my feet move faster.
I could see Dabi's silhouette in the distance, I just have to follow quietly....
I slid behind a wall, and peaked out to see where he was headed..
'Seems like he knows where he's going..' I tailed behind him, just a few meters away. I couldn't believe that I was following someone like some stalker, but the evidence is served on a silver platter because here I am doing exactly that.
Before going further, I checked if my phone was in my pocket, it was and I paused for a short moment to mute it. Just in case Hawks or anyone calls me, it would be dumb to be busted by my phone like those horror movies.
Right after doing so I continued my little activity.
_
It's been a few, or more alleyways that we've passed. And I started to think to myself- 'Just where was he going?'
I was practically panting- gasping for air when he finally stopped. And I thanked the deities for this, because alas it had finally ended, and I could see what was wrong.
We stopped at the back of what seems to be a warehouse, it wasn't just.. any warehouse though.. it was.. huge. I know all warehouses are huge, but this one was just out of pocket.
'Color me impressed, but whats Dabi's deal for being here? He lives here or what? Or maybe he works here.. that makes sense too. Maybe he's getting a promotion? For being a good thief? That sounds dumb.'
He goes towards a gate and puts in some pincode -
'Shit! This is the end of tonight then..' I thought to myself, I bit my lip. My fingers nervously tugged at the hem of my hood, should I proceed?
I don't want to regret this decision, maybe I'll just step back.
My feet turns, the rest of my body following. I'm walking, one foot after the other.
.
.
.
I stopped.
And looked up at the sky, 'I thought I heard something.' there was a vague sound in the air, that I swore was familiar. It was coming this way,
My suspicions were right - there's a winged figure in the night sky, I could barely see it because of how dark it was. The faint outline of their figure.
It daringly got close to ground, maybe too close to where I was standing. Around a dozen meters away,
'What is that person up to...'
.
It strikes me- Is he going to the same place as Dabi is?
Then it only took a matter of time for me to piece it together.. Wings... Hawks! My feet moved, about to run to where he was about to land but I stopped-
'Hes gonna ask me why I'm out here.. that'll be a mess.. Dabi would catch me.. both of them will be onto me.. they're friends after all..'
'Wait.'
'Does Hawks know that Dabi is a thief?'
'Why would a hero be friends with a thief?'
'What?'
It didn't make any sense. Why would a representative of justice, be with someone like Dabi? It doesn't add up.
Maybe I shouldn't leave.
I figured that I'll put some distance between me and them, it was an effort but I had to see what they were up to.
I knew Hawks had the ability to sense me.. his wings allow it.
I took off to somewhere distant - where his feathers won't get too close to me if they fluttered around the air freely. This was impossible- how does one sneak up on Hawks?
.
.
It was only a few seconds after I took my hiding spot the mysterious figure finally landed. And I was right, the moonlight illuminated this man and it helped me see him more clearly
As I suspected, he went on the same path as Dabi did.
My eyes squinted, trying to adjust as he went farther away. Soon enough I started to follow, but not close. Just enough to see him and where he was going.
"Wait up partner! Don't leave me behind." Hawks' voice was faint, but I could somewhat decipher what he was saying. The blondie lightly jogged catching up to the ravenette.
"Why don't you leave me alone?" Dabi retorted, scoffing stepping off the gate frame and into the building as soon as Hawks came close enough.
Atleast he had manners..
'Shit.. if I go after them they'll definitely notice me!'
It was a fast decision, go big or go home.
The door was closing, and I could see that they were walking away, a far distance from the entrance - they wouldn't see me if I go in now.
I grit my teeth.
I have to get to the bottom of this.
Running there won't be fast enough, I bended the water out of my handy bottle and created an ice trail- and my feet quickly glided across the path.
It all happened so fast.
.
.
I slipped in.
I was inside the warehouse.
My head started to have some regret when the hallways stretched out to the very end, the perspective bamboozling me. Maybe it was my imagination fooling me.
It was only then I realised, I did not know anything about this place.
I was all alone. And I couldn't back out now, because the door has closed behind me. I swallowed hard, pulling my hood down.
_
A weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
I wasn't alone after all. Because luckily for me, this was one huge place. And I'm glad there were people here-
It felt like a hangout you know? Because it's not just a handful. It's like a whole centre- a crowd here and there. And I'm glad that I was able to blend just right in and not stand out like a sore thumb..
Because it was more like everyone here was a sore thumb...
Okay maybe the jokes on me, everyone here is flashy whilst I'm in a boring, dull outfit. I felt pretty embarrassed, but nonetheless nobody seemed to pay attention to me: I'm the sore thumb.
It wasn't even an outfit, it was literally just my sleepwear and a hoodie I blindly grabbed.
As I headed deeper, which I knew was a dangerous thing to do. But there was no saving for me anymore, I've gone down the rabbit hole - so why not just get it over with.
Dabi and Hawks were a few feet away, I'm surprised how I even was able to catch up to them that fast.
Everything was fine until it registered to me that I see familiar faces.
.
.
.
What do I mean by that?
The faces that I see when I pass by a television on the news channel, reporting crime. Faces that either showed up in a sketch, or a photo.
The familiar costumes, the signature looks. The recognizable voices of all these faces.
It was only then my feet froze.
Their laughter echoes through my mind, all of them. It's when I start to realise who I'm with.
Who all these people are.
.
.
.
'Why... Are villains here?'
I'm in the middle of the crowd, deep into the pit. My body has frozen and so has my mind. A cold sweat drips down the back of my neck as I try to recollect everything.
But I still don't understand.
