Chapter 4

Grim was laying on the cold dusty ground, panting heavily, Yuu seemed fine since he only yelled for Grim to turn in a certain direction, and you weren't fased one bit.

"... Well?" Grim asked between heavy breaths. He was looking at the headmage that was rambling on about some stuff again.

"Incredible... I've never seen anyone bend a monster to their will quite the way you have. I must confess, my educator's intuition did sense something about you after that brouhaha at orientation, Yuu."

"And you, Y'n. That electric power your 'vision' thing or whatever grants you is quite interesting aswell. The way it enfuses with your weapon to create powerful blasts through normal attacks is very fascinating indeed. It seems you also have peak physical condition together with your great weaponary skills... Both a bow and a polearm are quite impressive. Your ability to quick aim, even with 3 arrows is amazing, and you use the length of your polearm well to your advantage. Yes, yes..."

He continued yapping about your abilities for a moment. You looked at him weirdly, and Yuu was glancing between the both of you awkwardly.

After a long minute of the crow speaking you finally had enough of it. "Can you stop? I'm standing right here and it's kinda creepy."

This seemed to snap him out of it as he now went back to Yuu. "All right, yes. I could tell you had a certain animal trainer-y, beast master-ish quality to you. Oh, yes. Quite interesting aswell. That said, I-"

"Don't even start one of your weird yappings again, Crowley. He is, just like I was a second ago during your mumbling, right there." You cut him off quickly before he could get too lost in thought.

 "Would it be possible for Grim to stay here with us?"

Your head slowly turned towards Yuu. It was just a blank stare, which made him feel like he made the wrong decision just by asking.

After looking at him for a while you just looked away and nodded ever so slightly. "I guess I wouldn't mind. He hasn't really been a bother and he did help getting those ghosts out of here..."

"WHAT? A monster, stay HERE?" The headmage stared at you with a shocked expression, his jaw hanging almost on the floor.

Said creature stared at the two of you with disbelief in his big blue eyes. "Whoa, did you just..."

"Please, oh so gracious and kind headmage!" Yuu clasped his hand together and bowed while holding his hands up. You side-eyed him, but didn't say anything about it.

You just glared at the masked man before you when you knew Yuu wasn't looking, making a shiver run down his spine.

"Eep!- Ahem. Hmm, I suppose I cannot deny your plea. Very well."

"Myah! Really?"

"Let me be clear! Under absolutely no circumstances would I allow anyone not brought in by the black carriage into this school, and most definitly not a monster! Nor will I allow you two, Yuu and Y/n, to freeload until you're able to return home."

"Whoa, way to get the poor thing's head up." You muttered and picked the cat off of the dusty floor he was still laying on. You let him climb onto you, so he could sit on your shoulder without breaking his neck trying to make eye-contact with others. 

It was kind of a way of showing you did care. And silently Grim did appreciate it.

"Now allow me to explain. It was the Dark Mirror that brought you here, so the school does bear some responsibility for your health and well-being. So I will allow you to remain in this dorm, free of charge."

You stared at the man, waiting ever so patiently for the 'but' to show up around the corner.

"But...!" There it was.

"You will need to pay for your own food, clothing, and incidentals."

"And how do you want us to do that? Want us to jump into the wide world of places, cultures, jobs, etc. we don't know and try to find a job without a proper portfolio?" You snarled at him. Was this man dumb? Geez did this guy annoy you.

"Ah, as to how you will do so, penniless as you are. Ah ha ha, a fine plan indeed." He laughed to himself and you just leaned over to Yuu. "If you want me to punch him or anything just say the word." He nodded, but continued staring weirdly at the mage just like you were.

"What exactly are you planning to make us do?" The boy beside you asked after finally mustering up the courage to break the crow from his train of thoughts.

"You seem alarmed, you don't have to be. I'm just simply going to ask you to do a few odd jobs around campus. From what you've done in this dorm already I can tell at least one of you knows their way around a broom."

You butted in before he could continue. "You're gonna make us, two childeren and a..cat? clean up your messes up around the school campus?"

"Yeah! What do you say about you three working as a janitorial team?" He sounded way to excited about all of this. "If you agree to that, I will make a special exception and allow you to remain on campus. I'll also allow you to make use of the library, to research on a way for you to get back to your homes." 

"Oh how amazing." You rolled your eyes, and Yuu looked just as disappointed as you were.

"How boundlessly charitable I am." The oh so gracious man stated and Yuu whispered something to you. "I don't think we're that much of a charity case tho...?"

You nodded, a smile stretching across your face. "I really don't think so aswell."

"Ah! Only when your work is over of course."

"Whaaat? What kinda deal is that?"

"Not the best one I must say." Yuu answered the cat.

"Wouldn't it be better to prioritise getting us home first? Would get us off of his stick quicker." You added in aswell.

"I wanna put on one of those sweet uniforms and be a student, not sweep up people's junk!" Grim shouted loudly. You realled your head away from the loud yelling of the creature right next to your ear.

"Yeah, and I want to be at Candace's place right now, and then be able to head back home to my papa and sister, but we can't all have what we want now can we Grim?" You glared at him and he immediately shut his mouth.

"If you're not satisfied with my offer, I can arrange to have you thrown out again." Crowley stated matter-of-factly making the cat shut his big mouth.

"Myah?! ...All right, fine! Let's do it." You nodded along boredly, while Yuu did way more excitedly. For some reason.

"Wonderful. Then I shall tell you three to work hard as the newest members of the Night Raven College's janitorial staff!"

You all spoke a little while longer before Crowley made his way out to do some 'very important high class paperwork'. You didn't believe him at all, but were glad he finally left.

Yuu had found the means to cook pasta in the crate the headmage had left behind so you helped him prepare it to your best ability since you didn't know the recipe and didn't want to ruin the food.

You all happily ate, Grim chewing loudly resulting to you telling him to eat normally.

"Grim. Close your mouth when chewing, it's called maners you know?"

"All right, all right! I'm sorry I guess, geez..."

After 5 minutes he was back to chewing loudly but happily on his food. It tasted alot like the Flammin' hot bolognese they selled in Mondstadt. You had it a few times when visiting there with your family.

After eating you went and cleaned a room. The bed was reasonably big, so you and Yuu agreed on just first cleaning this room for tonight, and then starting to clean others.

What seemed like hours of just cleaning the one room, it was finally done. You were smart and immediately also cleaned the bathroom attached to the chamber.

In the crate crowley gave you were also some temporary pyjamas so you both took turns changing. The only problem was the fact yours didn't really have a hole for your big bushy tail to come out off.

Luckily for you, you found a pair of scissors, and without caring about maybe needing to give the pyjamas back later cut a hole in it for your tail.

"You really have no care, do you?" Yuu asked staring at you in shock. partially because of just now being able to see how big your tail actually was, and because you just cut a hole in your clothing.

You shrugged him off and plopped into the king-sized bed. You snuggled into the blankets, curling up into a small ball. Grim joined you and snuggled into your arms for warmth in the cold room.

To tired to actually care, you just let him, and held him to your chest. Yuu then noticed a small thing going up and down under the covers. He lifted them up, and saw your tail wagging ever so slightly under the big blanket and comfort of finally being able to rest. Cats will be cats, so he just shrugged it off.

He chuckled silently and then crawled in with you, careful to keep a respectful space between the two of you even though he also wanted to snuggle against you for some warmth.

He sighed out, just as happy with the feeling of finally being able to rest. "Tomorrow's gonna be a long day." He muttered, before he too finally drifted to sleep.

A/n: Quick chapter! Wrote this in about an hour, and it's almost midnight for me! I lowkey want to make Y/n the protective mom type friend, specifically protective over Yuu cause he can't use magic. And more like a strict but adoring mom over Grim, because he's lowkey just my little baby! I hope you have a good rest of your day/noon/night!-Kitz/Yumeko
