A very unexpected encounter

A/N: I'm just gonna use 'she/her' pronouns for Percy right now, cuz it's Persephone for this chapter. Also, I wanted to write a story like this for a long time, guess I'm hitting two birds with one stone.

It had been four days since Percy came to Olympus. She had been staying in Hestia's house since then, but after the 25th, she decided to visit places.

Percy was still fitting to her new body. It was certainly much more gracious and faster, but restrained some of her earlier, which was a problem for her. Either way, it was a new experience.

It was on the 26th, at night. Percy was lying on the green ground, staring at the sky silently. From up on Olympus, the sky seemed closer. Millions of stars adorned the night sky. This heavenly sight could only be experienced from up here on Olympus.

Percy was so absorbed by the sight in front of her that she could not register soft footsteps passing right by her and then taking a sudden stop as if the walker just noticed Percy on the ground.

"I don't think I know you." A voice sounded from above Percy, shocking her out of her reverie. Percy rolled around and looked up to see a girl of her age with auburn hair and silvery yellow eyes and a scent of the forest. She had a silver glow to her as if radiating the moon.

"Lady Artemis!" Percy acknowledged, immediately standing up and bowing.

"You are a fair maiden. What's your identity?" She asked curiously. Her silver gaze was looking at Percy, trying to figure every detail out of her.

"Persephone, m'lady. I am a demigod daughter of Hecate and currently on Olympus as her attendant." Percy answered. "I go by Percy, though." She added truthfully.

Now, Percy had met Artemis a lot of times in her previous life. In Percy's opinion, she was one of the most just Olympians, who was not as paranoid as the others. Of course, she liked to make jackalopes out of males, but currently, Perseus being Persephone, she had no problem. Hopefully.

Percy also knew she couldn't let Artemis know she was Percy cuz that would be very bad. It was her second life, and she didn't want the mess of her first life creeping in (except the ones she didn't mind, like her guardians.) Besides, no one was supposed to know Percy existed anymore.

"So, Persephone. What is a demigoddess doing alone on the hunting grounds of Olympus?"

"Oh, I did not know this was the hunting grounds," Percy muttered, looking around. True, it was a clearing amid a forest. "I was just looking at the stars. It's not everywhere that you get a view like this."

Artemis nodded. "Indeed. You do have an appreciation for nature. But tell me this: why do you have a faint reek of the sea?"

Percy raised an eyebrow at that. She reeked of the sea. As far as she was concerned, after her 'death,' her 'scent' was diminished considerably, despite her powers intact. Maybe it was just the traces of smell.

"I just swam in the sea." Percy lied. Well, there was a sea on Olympus at one end, but Percy never went there.

"Right. In this cold, wintry midnight, you had a swim in the freezing sea. Of course, that's normal." Artemis rolled her eyes. Percy shrugged, no idea what to say.

Artemis decided something and sat down on the ground beside Percy.

"So tell me, Persephone, daughter of Hecate, how come I have never heard of you or seen you with the demigods in the camp?" She asked. Percy knew she was screwed. This was a huntress and she would take out the truth from her either way.

"Um- maybe you never noticed me?" Percy said or rather asked.

"You are certainly not un-noticeable, I can tell you that." Artemis answered with a faint interest in this demigoddess.

"Well I did spend most of the time with my mother though." Percy lied.

"In the Underground?"

Percy thought about answering 'yes' and ending the topic there, but for some reason she answered 'no'.

"Then where?" She asked.

"Well, there's a special place for certain children of my mother where I spend a lot of my time." She answered truthfully.

That peaked Artemis' curiosity. "So, where's this mysterious place?"

"I can't say that." Percy smirked.

Artemis raised an eyebrow. "You're either very courageous, or very dumb, to say 'no' to an Olympian goddess, that too to me."

Percy inclined her head respectfully. (She can't bow while she is lying on the ground) Artemis decided to allow her to keep this little secret.

"Tell me, what's your age?"

"Twelve, milady."

"And Hecate named you 'Percy' short of 'Persephone'?"

"Yep." Percy lied.

Artemis was now staring at Percy's face directly right above him. She nodded her head appreciatively.

"Well, I guess Hecate named you after the one of the greatest demigod who ever existed. Had he not died so soon, you could have met him." She ended the last part with a trail.

"Percy Jackson?" Percy asked hesitantly. She was not sure she wanted to talk about her own real self.

"You are aware of the stories?" She asked sharply.

Percy nodded.  "My mother, Lady Hecate I mean, told me about them."

Artemis nodded and turned to look up at the sky.

"It was honestly a shame that he died so soon. He was honestly . . . just what Olympus needed to heal itself."

"Why would you say that?" Percy asked, surprised that Artemis was praising a guy.

"Well, credit's worth where credit's due. The boy - well, what he did was . . . we Olympians were at fault for that. We pushed him too hard, and later when he snapped, we faulted him. We made a grave mistake, and we will be left forever to repent for it."

Now, Percy had no idea what the hell was Artemis talking about.

Percy remembered his earlier life, and he did not remember any 'snapping' or 'Olympians faulting him' that resulted in his death. He died in the great storm. What in his favorite uncle's name was Artemis on about?

"Why would you repent? It's not like you all killed him." Percy asked.

Artemis turned to look at Percy with her eyebrows furrowed. "How do you not know?"

"What?" Percy asked.

"Hecate never told you, did she?" Artemis' eyes widened in realization.

"Never told me what?"

"And of course you spent most of your life in some isolated area where you would not learn the full story."

"I'm sorry, but I am kind of losing you."

"Of course. Your mother is smart. She doesn't want you to know that about your namesake."

"Please." Percy requested. "What did Hecate never tell me?"

Artemis smiled sadly at Percy, and rested a hand on her shoulder.

"It's not my place to tell you of it, Persephone. Just remember, the hero you are named after is the only male I ever truly respected."

"I - " Percy's words failed her, when she realized what Artemis just said. But still, more questions plagued her mind.

Suddenly Artemis stood up and lowered an arm for Percy. Percy took her arm and stood up, facing the goddess.

"Persephone, I have an offer for you." Artemis proposed.

"What offer, milady?"

"You have a lot of potential. I look for these qualities in young maidens to join my hunt. So tell me, if you have the chance to take immortality - live forever, unless you fall in battle, beside your sisters and me, but at the cost of all romantic affairs, would you take it?"

"I- what?" Percy realized that Artemis was trying to recruit her into her hunt.

"It's a yes or no question, Persephone."

"Milady," Percy began humbly, "I have a family, a few friends and a lot of responsibility. I am honored to be worthy of joining the hunt in your eyes, but I can't ditch all my friends and responsibilities."

"You are just like your namesake." She said with an edge of pride. "Choosing responsibility and family above everything else."

Percy bowed in response.

"I don't hold it against you that you refused to join my huntresses. I do hope we meet again." Artemis said and vanished into thin air.

Percy turned back and began walking towards her aunt's house, she had a lot of answering to do.

"You met with Artemis?" Hestia shrieked when she heard the news. Percy nodded.

"I have some serious questions." Percy informed.

Hestia sat down on the sofa after calming herself down.

"Before your questions, I want to know what did Artemis tell you."

"She told me I 'snapped', and it was the fault of the gods. Something happened and the gods regret it. I don't remember any of this. Why?"

Hestia closed her eyes and took deep breaths.

"Percy." She started and an aura of hope and comfort flared throughout the house. "Do you trust me?"

Percy nodded without hesitation. Hestia had been a mother to Percy for all these years. She was the Sally to Percy in this life.

"Then you have to make me a promise."

"What promise?"

Hestia came closer to Percy and stared at him in the eyes.

"I love you with all my heart. You are like a son to me and I don't want you to feel any sort of pain."

"I know, but -"

"Swear to me on the Styx that you will never try to find these answers. When the time is right, I will myself let you know what you need to know, but before that, put these thoughts out of your mind."

Before Percy could protest, Hestia grabbed her hands and said fiercely "swear this to me."

Percy nodded, knowing Hestia would never do anything to harm him. "I swear it on the Styx."

Thunder boomed in the distance, sealing the oath and Hestia released her hands just to give Percy a hug, which washed away all the worries and questions from his mind.

A/N:

Yeah, I needed to address this issue of Percy blowing up 60 million people and destroying the Eastern seaboard. But, I once again managed to push it for later.

Also, I understand I took another month delay in publishing this chapter, but the reason is justified - I was working on another book which I suddenly gained an interest on, and now that book's published on my main account (it's a comedy story - "Unlicensed therapist of Olympus").

I can't promise fast future updates, because unfortunately I have a lot of exams coming up which I was just blatantly ignoring till a few days ago, and then I got a reality check, and I need to work for them. However, I will be writing whenever I get the time.

Also, I decided the official pairing for this story to be Pertemis (like the original version of this), but there's not gonna be any Thertemis (like before), and Artemis will be coming to Hogwarts much, much, earlier.

Anyways, enjoy!
