chapter 16
(the party of the century)
chris didn't know why it took him over an hour to decide on what to wear for the party. he wanted to look good, not just for himself, but for dejah too. it isn't usually such a task to pick an outfit as his style is very good, but he honestly couldn't decide. he decided to put a poll on his instagram.
âąâżË˘áľáľáľĘłáľáľ
he decided he wanted to wear the camo pants, as he knew dejah liked them but he didn't know what to wear for his top half. but an hour goes by and he sees that his fans perfered the grey jacket one better. he also saw that dejah and lana had voted for that one too and liv, abbie, matt and nick voted for the other one.
he makes his way downstairs to see nick and matt waiting by the door, on the phone texting, "we're picking up dejah." says matt, opening the door and letting nick and chris walk through it before he closes and locks the door. they all buckle themselves as they set off to go pick up dejah. "also, we're not playing taylor before you decide you wanna impress dejah by putting it on! i'm sick of hearing her voice every time i'm in the car." he shouts, noticing chris picking up the aux cord.
chris looks at matt and drops the cord with a huff. nick picks it back up and begins to play party in the USA. as soon as the music plays, matt rolls his eyes but chris bops his head to the rhythmic beat, "yess, getting me in the party mood" laughs chris, turning around to see nick jamming his heart out to the music.
matt putts on an annoyed front but in reality, he was enjoying it. as they pulled up to her house, they called dejah to tell her that they were outside but she didn't answer, so matt decided to honk his honk and she still hadn't come outside. "oh my fucking god, we're already late as it is, she's taking forever" groans nick, "where is her ass"
matt turns the car off as he could tell that he was gonna be waiting for atleast another few minutes due to dejah probably still getting ready. "i'm gonna go and check on her, one moment." speaks chris, unbuckling his seatbelt. he opened the car door and hopped out, making his way to dejah's front door.
"kids using every excuse to talk to her" laughs matt, getting a chuckle from nick.
"agreed" he laughs from the back, watching as chris knocks on the door. no reply, so he walked in shutting the door behind him, "oh brother he just walked in."
chris walked into the house, and it was quiet. nate wasn't in as his car wasn't in the drive. he slowly walked into the kitchen, that was empty. then he checked the living room which was also empty. he walks back through the hallway, and as he was about to walk up the stairs he could hear a door creaking open, "you should really get that creaky door fixed" he says, alerting her to his presence.
"chris?" she speaks. confused she peered her head around the corner to see chris standing there, smiling. her eyes immediately scanned his familiar outfit, "wow, you actually wore that one. it looks good on you, chris" she says, completely walking around the corner so her full body was on show. the moment she began to walk down the stairs, chris' eyes followed her. she was wearing a short, tight, black bodycon dress with black heels. he raised his eyebrows and she chuckles at his shocked expression.
"you make my outfit look bummy" he laughs, watching as she stops a few stairs down from where chris was stood. he stepped up a step and they were inches apart from each other, "you look.. stunning" he whispers, gazing into her beautiful brown eyes.
she smiles as she looks him up and down, stopping at his eyes. when they meet, she knew she had something special with him, and it breaks her that she won't allow herself to explore this special thing. he grabs ahold of her waist, pulling her closer to him. he presses a gentle kiss on her cheek before grabbing her hand, leading her out of the door. nicks face is gobsmacked when he sees the pair.
"oh, it's official, official." he whispers to matt who looks over for himself. he saw the pair holding hands, and the way chris was looking at her, it was a look of pure love.
"oh they're in love." laughs matt, seeing them hop into the car. "hey dejah, you look great" greets matt, getting a smile in return from dejah.
"you look gorgeous oh my god!" compliments nick, jumping from the music that was suddenly blasted due to matt starting the car again.
dejah giggled, "thanks guys"
the rest of the car ride was pretty much silent, just the music blasting from nicks phone to fill the atmosphere. it felt complete. like life was complete. it felt nostalgic in some way, all 4 of them being together having fun like old times.
"i'm gonna find liv, cya guys later" speaks nick, also pushing through people leaving chris and dejah alone.
she spun around to face chris who looks at her with his big blue eyes. a piece of hair fell onto his face, dejah catching it before it fell fully. she pushed it back before snaking her hand down his body till she reached his hands in which she interlocks her fingers in his. they made their way over to the kitchen where dejah poured herself some coke and vodka. she offered some to chris who declines her offer. "i'm gonna get a pepsi instead, but thanks. also, be careful." he says, taking in a deep breath, "you know, with alcohol. be safe."
dejah rolls her eyes, "you sound like nate when you say shit like that" she moans, taking a sip. it makes her face scrunch up which makes chris laugh.
"well, it's true." he says, grabbing a pepsi from the fridge.
"good choice" says an unfamiliar voice from behind chris. dejah peers over his shoulders and when she sees who it is, her heart sinks to the bottom of her body, "welcome to my party!"
chris closes the fridge and turns to see who it is, "oh hey tonya! wow i haven't seen you in a while, how have you been?" he asks, pulling her in for a short hug. dejah stands there awkwardly, wanting this moment to end and for her to leave.
"i've been good, you know me!" she laughs, playfully hitting his shoulder, "can you get me a pepsi from the fridge too? it's my favourite drink" she says in her annoyingly strong british accent.
chris' face lights up when she speaks, "wow, we are literally the same person i swear to god. pepsi it's the best drink ever." he laughs, re-opening the fridge. he looks over to dejah who pulls him a weird face and tilts her head as is to say it's tonya!!
tonya sees her face and she instantly switches. when chris closes the fridge and passes her the pepsi, she slides her fingers against this hand before taking the pepsi from him. she moves in closer and starts to pull on his drawstrings whilst remaining the eye contact, "i haven't seen you since high school, when we started dating" she says with a flirtatious voice, licking her lips. her eyes shift away from the eye contact to stare at his lips.
dejah watches the pair and in that moment she knew she had to walk away. she couldn't stand to watch whatever was going on between chris and tonya. she strutted away to try and find someone she knew, she didn't know where she was going she just need to go somewhere that wasn't in the kitchen with them 2.
chris watched as dejah walked away but tonya grabs his face and makes him face her again, "cmon, let's go to the-" she begins, being cut off by chris walking away, "chris! where are you going?"
"you did that on purpose!" he shouts, turning around to see tonya smiling, "you knew it would annoy her. what's your problem?"
tonya began to walk towards chris, "okay, i have to admit that, that was partly the reason. but i genuinely do like you. ever since we broke up in high school, i've been lonely without you." she takes another step closer and chris takes a step back.
"no. you don't. leave me alone tonya, seriously." he says, walking away to find dejah somewhere in the crowd.
dejah finally found abbie, she was in a corner with liv. "hey, did you guys know that matt and nick are looking for you?" she says, sitting down with them.
"wait nicks looking for me? i'll go find him." says liv, waving goodbye before going to find nick somewhere in the crowd.
"i'll go find matt to-"
"no! not yet. i just.. need someone to hang out with for a bit." she speaks honestly, spotting jude in the distance, "ew. who invited jude? nobody even likes him anymore."
abbie had a guilty look on her face, "about that.. i actually invited him.." dejah whipped her head around and just stared at abbie for a second, furrowing her eyebrows in confusion, "it's not what you think. it's kinda complicated. basically, my dad and his dad became friends and my dad keep inviting his dad and him for dinner and my dad told me to invite him."
"and you didn't think to tell me that jude's been coming over to have dinner with you guys?" asks dejah, genuinely shocked with the new information she's heard from abbies mouth. "i can't believe this, why didn't you just tell your dad that you didn't want to invite him?"
abbie was about to answer when matt interrupted them. "abbie! there you are. i have been looking everywhere for you. i found liv and she told me you'd be here." he says, pulling her up from her seated position
"hey!" she shouts, pushing matt.
"oh you're dead abs" he says, chasing abbie up the stairs, laughing. she sits there by herself in self pity. she downs the rest of her drink and throws the plastic cup on the floor. that bitch will have to clean it later. (tonya)
matt chases her into an empty room, it had plants everywhere and this ugly green wallpaper that surrounded the room. "this room smells like old people." she laughs, looking around.
matt laughs and takes a seat on the edge of the bed, "it's probably tonyas moms room or something." he giggles, watching abbie take a seat next to him on the bed. they both sit there in comfortable silence before matt breaks it by sighing, "i actually want to talk to you about something."
this caught abbie's attention, making her look at matt with confusion. she stared into his blue eyes and watched as he ran a shakey hand through his hair. "what's up?" she nervously asks, locking eyes with matt as he finally looked back at her.
matt laughs awkwardly as he smiles at her, "i.. i think i'm starting to catch feelings for you. in fact, i know i've caught feeling for you. i've felt like this for some time now but i just didn't know how you would react and i guess i've just been scared to tell you, but i feel like now's the time."
chris makes his way over to dejah who was sat by herself in the corner. as she approached her, she notices him making her turn her head away from his direction. he takes a seat next to her and the awkward silence fills the air almost instantly. he takes a deep breath before saying, "there's nothing between us by the way." referring to tonya. it should of reassured dejah, but considering their past she didn't know whether to believe it or not.
"it's fine. it's not like we are dating or anything." she says, making it extremely clear that what she had said about them never becoming a thing still stands. it was weird though, because what she said was true about them not dating but if they weren't dating then why was dejah so jelous?
chris nods his head slowly, pushing his lips together awkwardly. thankfully the music was kinda loud so it wasn't complete silence. "can i ask you a question?" he says. dejah turns her head around to face chris as she nods her head, waiting for chris to speak again, "would you reconsider that last sentence you said?"
dejah raised an eyebrow and looks away. she fears if she looks at him too long she may say something she will regret. "why do you like me so much?"
chris had never been asked that question before, it took him back a little. he thinks on the question for a second before sighing, "i don't know." that wasn't really the answer that she was expecting, making her turn around to face chris again giving him a confused expression. "it's just you. you are the one i want. no one else. not tonya, you." he states, longingly looking into her eyes. it was almost like something was finally going on between them from the look in dejahs eyes.
dejahs heart was beating fast, faster than it ever has before. this weird feeling of electricity flowing through her veins, and she didn't know what came over her when she grabs his face and immediately places her lips on his. chris wasn't expecting it, but once he realised he placed his hands on her shoulder. they moved their lips in sync with their racing heartbeats, igniting a fire that burned brighter than the sun. in that fleeting moment, time stood still, and the world around them faded away, leading only the warmth of their embrace and the taste of alcohol lingering from dejahs mouth.
