Chapter Eighty-Two

Wren sat on her bed with her journal in her lap as she wrote until all of the sudden her bedroom starts to rattle. Wren looked alarmed as it seemed like a train was passing by the room, flooding it with golden light from their exterior lights as it honks its horn loudly.
Wren squeezes her eyes shut and grits her teeth as she put her hands over her ears. A moment later, an alarmed Natalie and Lydia run in to find her daughter gripping her head. "Wren, what's wrong?" Natalie as she ran over and grabbed Wren's arm.
"Did you hear that?" Wren asked and they frowned, "We heard you screaming." Lydia said and Wren frowned as well as she struggles to recall the details of what she just experienced. "No, it- it was the sound of a train passing through my room..." Wren said and Natalie raised her eyebrows slightly.
"Well, there wasn't a train, and we haven't had an earthquake, so... Maybe you just had a bad dream. You should probably write it down before you forget about it." Natalie said and Wren shook her head, "I wasn't asleep..."

Wren walked through the halls of the highschool as she smiled at a couple classmates. She instinctively wanders over to a locker as though she's waiting for someone, but after a moment, she frowns, as though she can't remember why she was there. She thinks about it for a moment before sighing and leaning back against the locker.
"Don't tell me In finally losing my mind." She muttered quietly before quickly walking to class. She ran into math class and quickly sat down next to Lydia right as the late bell rings.
"I'm impressed with most of you. It really speaks to your study habits and your commitment to your own education. Everyone else? See me for extra help." Ms. Flemming said as she started passing out graded papers.
Ms. Flemming gives Malia a knowing look and hands her the quiz making Malia look at it to see she was given a D-. Malia growled under her breath as she gripped the edges of her desk so hard that her claws came out. Lydia and Wren seeing that Malia was losing control, immediately began distracting Ms. Flemming.
"Ms. Flemming-" They both said at the ae time but Ms. Flemming cut them off, "I already told you, girls- I don't give extra credit for alternate equations based on your own theoretical findings." She said making Lydia and Wren make an awkward face as Ms. Flemming walks away to continue passing back the tests before Wren turned her attention back to Malia, who is still struggling to regain control.
"Mal! Claws. Claws, Malia." Wren whispered and Malia sat back and took a deep breath before slightly holding her hand up to show she no longer had her claws out.
Wren sighed softly and sat back, looking over at her paper. After a moment, she noticed someone out of the corner of her eye and turned to find that an older woman wearing scrubs and a white lab coat is sitting at the desk next to her. Wren frowned, furrowing her brows as she glanced around before leaning toward the woman.
"Uh, who are you?" She asked and the woman turns to look at Wren with wide eyes, but says nothing. "Are you lost?" Wren asked and the woman's eyes widen and her mouth gapes in shock when she sees a golden light coming toward her.
Just like what Wren saw and heard the previous night, the classroom starts to rattle as what appears to be a train passes right next to the school. There was high-pitched squeal making Wren cover her ears with her hands as she flinches in pain.
After a moment, it all stops, and Wren frantically glanced around to find that the doctor is gone and that no one else in the class, Malia and Lydia included, seems to have witnessed what just occurred. She slightly breathed heavily as she glanced around completely confused while Lydia glanced over at her, noticing the alarmed look on Wren's face.
"Wren." Lydia whispered making Wren look at her sister, "What's wrong?" She asked and Wren furrowed her brows. "You didn't hear that?" She whispered making Lydia look at her concerned, "Hear what?" Lydia asked but Wren didn't answer as she just glanced around.
"Wren you can't just say something like that and not tell me what it was. We always hear the same stuff." Lydia whispered and Wren just slightly shook her head, looking very distant.
"I don't know."

Math class has just ended, and Wren rushes down the entrance hall after the woman she saw in class. When she makes it to the end of the hall and pushes open the double doors, the scene turns from day to night. It is dark outside, and Wren's appearance has changed- instead of wearing what she had came.to school in, she was wearing what she wrote the other day. Wren looked around in confusion as a voice is heard, but nobody was present.
"You know me? Oh, thank God you know me!"
Wren quickly turns toward the voice a strong gust of wind tousles her hair, causing dead leaves to blow around her as well.
"Do you see him?"
Wren furrowed her eyebrows as she looked around to find what the voice is talking about but still sees no one around her.
"Do you see him?"
Wren's hands are outstretched as if she was gripping someone's hands.
"All right, come on! Come on!"
Suddenly, Wren get pulled forward by an invisible force, her arm still outstretched as though someone was pulling her toward the parking lot. She furrowed her brows, extremely confused by the fact that her body seems to be moving from a mix of muscle memory and instinct.
"This way!"
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Stop! This way! This way!"
Wren gets tugged in a different direction by the invisible force, but the longer it goes on the more Wren begins to panic. Wren, now experiencing a massive sense of dejร -vรบ, anxiously calls out, "Where are they?"
"Everywhere!"
Wren, now completely panicked, frantically looks around them as her hair is whipped around her face by the wind.
"You will forget me."
"No no, I won't. I won't!" Wren said as she desperately rushes after the voice in hopes of finding the source when suddenly, Malia's and Lydia's voice is heard as well. "Wren! Look out!"
Suddenly, Wren is pulled out of her flashback/premonition and back into the real world, where she finds herself yanked backward out of the middle of the street by her sisters just before Wren could get ran over by a car. The driver of the car honks at the girls in annoyance as they pass. With the crisis averted, Malia and Lydia looks at Wren with concern as she attempts to catch her breath and understand what she just experienced.
"Are you okay?" Lydia asked and Wren sighed, clearly confused and overwhelmed by the premonition she just had. "I'm fine." She said and her sisters gave her a worried and confused look. "What were you doing?" Malia asked and Wren looked at them distinctly.
"Trying to remember."

It is late at night, and Wren and Lydia walk down the stairs toward the boiler room. Lydia gripped onto Wren's arm, visibly on edge, not knowing what to expect. As they wanders through the aisles between bookshelves, Wren finally calls out to get a clue as to where she needs to go, "Hello?"
"Over here."
They follow the sound of Malia's voice until they finally find her next to another shelf, where she has shackled one of her wrists to it and is attempting to do the same to the other. Wren frowns as her and Lydia walk closer to Malia, "Has it really come to this?" Wren asked
Malia rattles her right hand, which is holding the shackle that she can't lock due to her left wrist already being cuffed, "Can you give me a hand?" Malia asked and Lydia just raised her eyebrows. "If this is a new after-school club... Count us out?" She said and Malia sighs in frustration and worry.
"I've got a problem. I'm growling at people in class, I'm clawing at my desk... I tried turning the floor of my bedroom into a coyote den." Malia said making their eyed widen slightly, "Do these look familiar to you?" Malia asked and Wren nodded, "Yeah, they're the first set of chains you used." She said and Malia nodded while Lydia raised her eyebrows.
"Malia, do you really think this is going to keep you safe?" Lydia asked and Malia nodded, "They used to! Before the lake house, this is where I'd come for the full moon. Wren would help me every full moon, but she would never do this alone incase I got out. But you weren't down here with me. Scott wasn't down here with me. " Malia explained and Wren nodded slightly.
"Right. So someone else had to have been there. But who was it?" She said and to demonstrate her point, Malia once again holds up her hands, as her left wrist has been shackled, but her right hand, which is free, is still simply clutching the chains.
She tries to pull her hands together, but due to the short amount of chain between the shackles and where they attach to the wall, Malia is unable to touch her hands together. "You definitely couldn't have done it on your own. And back at the start, if you had gotten out Wren wouldnt have been able to stop you." Lydia said and Malia nodded.
Just then, Wren's phone buzzes, and she pulls it out took at it before looking up at Malia and Lydia.
"It's Scott."

Lydia, Malia and Wren pull up to the entrance to the preserve in Wren's car, and when they get out, Scott walks toward them to meet them there, handing them flashlights. "Hey. I went to bed at home, and I woke up out in the woods, about a mile out. I think there's a reason why this has happened." Scott says as he leads his three friends further into the woods
"I've been out here before. It was the beginning of sophomore year, the night before tryouts for first line. I remember because it was all that I could think about." Scott said and Malia looked at him confused, "What were you doing?"
"I was looking for a dead body." Scott said and Wren nodded slightly, "You were looking for my Laura's body, I remember you told me about it the next day." She said and Scott nodded while Lydia made a face. "...That's morbid."
"So, then, what was I doing out here all alone?" Scott asked and Lydia sighed, "I wish I could help you, but I didn't know you then." She said. "I was still a coyote, so I might have tried to eat it." Malia said making Wren cringe slightly. "Deaton said that my subconscious is trying to tell me something... But I need you guys to help me figure out what it's saying." Scott said and Lydia shrugged slightly. "Maybe you were just a curious teenager? You heard there was a body-" She says but Scott interjects before she can finish her train of thought.
"But how? I never watched the news, and I didn't have a police scanner."
"Your mom works at the hospital. Maybe she got called in and you overheard her?" Malia suggested and Scott shakes his head and stops walking before turning around to face the girls, "My mom wasn't home that night." Scott said.
"Okay, then Wren told you." Malia said and Wren shook her head, "There was no way I would have known. Before all the supernatural stuff started happening there was no way I would willingly go searching for a dead body." She said. Scott paused for a moment to think about this loss of memory for a moment, "I live five miles away from here. How did I get here?" He asked and Malia shrugged.
"You drove?"
"I didn't have a car."
"You ran?"
"I couldn't have. I had asthma.I was hiding, but they knew I was here." Scott asked and Wren sighed, "Maybe you made a ton of noise with your asthmatic breathing?" Wren suggested. "How would they know that it was me?" He asked and the girls glanced at each other as they consider this question for a moment before shrugging, none of them having a good answer to explain it.
"Why would the Sheriff even think I would be out here?" Scott asked and Lydia shrugged, "Because, like most deaths in this town, it was related to the supernatural." She said and Scott shook his head. "But I wasn't supernatural. I mean, this was the night that I was bitten." Scott said and Wren nodded.
"The Sheriff didn't even know about the supernatural until everything with Jennifer." She said and Scott nodded, "I wasn't a Werewolf yet... And I wasn't out here alone. I know it sounds crazy, but..." He said and Scott hesitates nervously for a moment before he continues. "I think I had a best friend. And I think he was out here with me that night." He said and Malia nodded slightly.
"It doesn't sound crazy. I know that someone was with Wren to chain me up, and I think they also wanted me to stay human." Malia said and Lydia nodded, "I feel it too. I've been feeling like I'm missing some close to me, like a friend." Lydia said and they all looked at Wren who sighed.
"I came to school this morning, and I was sure I was supposed to meet someone... But I couldn't remember who it was supposed to be. I have been looking for them all day. And-" Wren looks nervous and confused as she pauses for a brief moment, "I think I'm in love with them." She said making them all look at her shocked.
"What if we're all missing the same person? I think that he was in this picture." Scott asked as he pulls out a picture and shows it to them. It was of the four of them sitting at one of the table outside of the school. Wren gently grabs the photo when she notices that her arms seemed a little to spaced out for how she was sitting.
"He was sitting right there." She mumbled as she pointed at the space in front of hers and in between Scott and Lydia.

Scott, Malia, Wren and Lydia stand the darkened exam room of the animal clinic with Deaton. The piece of greenish-blue glass from the windshield of the Turner family's car on a string that hangs from a beaker stand and have illuminated it with an LED light, which sits in front of Wren on the exam table.
Malia looks at Wren before looking at Deaton for an explanation of what they're about to do. "Now she just magically writes down all the answers?" She asked and Deaton gives Malia a patient smile, "It's not quite that simple." He said making Wren sigh.
"When is it ever that simple?"
Deaton turns to look at Wren whose holding a pen that is hovering over a piece of paper on the table in front of her, "In automatic writing the hand moves outside of any conscious awareness. Normally this just happens to her naturally by touching something of someone's but since we are trying to get to do write something it's gonna be little different. Hopefully the silence, the darkness, and the light will allow you to find a more comfortable trance-like state. Wren, I want you to stare into the light, and let go of all thought."
Wren took a deep breath does just that, and after a moment of staring blankly at the glass, her entire body begins to relax. Shortly afterward, her hand begins to write on the sheet of paper. While she works, Deaton, Scott, Lydia and Malia step back to talk, keeping their voices low in an effort to not disturb Wren's focus.
"I have to warn you... We may not be able to access these memories." Deaton said making Scott furrow his brows, "Why not?" He asked. "The legend has always been that the Wild Hunt takes people. But, if what you're telling me is right, the truth is much worse. They erase people from reality." Deaton explained.
Scott looks over at Wren, who is now fully in a trance as she wrote on the sheet of paper with her pen. "How do we remember someone who has been completely erased from our minds?" He said and Deaton's exhausted expression indicates that he has no idea of how they will do it.
Meanwhile, Wren's focus on her sketching has become even more intense, with her hand scrawling words across the page in a faster and more erratic fashion. As her hand starts to move even more furiously, she begins rocking back and forth in the same rhythm as her hand writes on the paper. Just then, Malia, noticed Wren's frenetic movements and jerks her head toward her as she speaks to Deaton, Scott and Lydia in order to get their attention. "Maybe he hasn't been..." She said making them look over at Wren. None of them realizing that she had started hearing that voice again.
"You gonna judge what I'm wearing all night?"
Malia, Lydia, Scott and Deaton all become shocked and concerned when Wren's eyes clouds and a small drop of blood falls from her nose as she writes faster. "Oh, is she...? Should we stop her?" Scott asked worriedly and is about to rush forward to bring her back to the real world, but Deaton holds a hand up to stop him as he slowly steps toward her to try to gently get her attention.
"Wren? Wren? Slow down." He said but Wren doesn't react to his voice making Deaton shut off the light that illuminated the piece of glass. Almost instantly, Wren dropped the pen and sat back in her chair, though she still remains in a trance and doesn't say a word. Deaton and Scott lean forward to take a closer look and try to get her attention, but she doesn't appear to know they are there, "Is she okay?" Scott asked worriedly.
Deaton places his left hand on Wren's shoulder to speak with her face-to-face, but her eyes are still fixed on the top of the table, "Wren?" He asked. While Deaton and Scott try to rouse Wren from her trance, a curious Malia slides the sheet of paper for her and Lydia could see what she wrote.
The only thing Wren had wrote was the word "MISCHIEF" over and over. "What does "mischief" mean?" Malia asked catching Deaton's and Scott's attention while Lydia shakes her head. "That's not what she wrote..." She said making them notice hundreds of scribbles of the word "MISCHIEF" actually form larger letters that compose one single word.
"STILES."
The three teenager share a concerned look until Wren suddenly awakens from her trance with a gasp and looks up at the four with a confused and exasperated expression.
"What the hell is a Stiles?"
