Tuesday, 4th of February, 3:54 PM. Class 1-A Dormitory Common Area.
Mikumo knew that Katsuki would be gone for the next one to two hours, depending on how long his classmates kept him out, so with his ambition, motivation, second best friend, and absolute lack of cooking knowledge, he was ready to start his first trial run for making Katsuki's edible gift!
The plan was to make heart-shaped liquorice candies, coated in dark chocolate and topped with a hint of cinnamon, and by using his logic and high IQ, he was sure he would nail this trial run! And with Yuu by his side, what could've gone wrong?
(I think you already know the answer to that.)
Tightening his own apron and helping Yuu tie her own because she could not tie anything to save her life, Yuu handed him his notebook. I guess you could say she... could not tie a knot?
. . .
...It was funnier in Mikumo's head.
He opened up the notebook and flicked to the page they were on yesterday. "Okay, did you get the stuff I asked you to?"
Yuu nodded, holding up the plastic grocery store bag. "Yep, got it after school yesterday."
"Alright then, on that note, let's start."
Yuu blinked at Mikumo. Mikumo blinked back.
"Uhm... how do we start?"
"I have no idea. I thought you'd have an idea."
Yuu unconsciously tipped her head up in thought. "Hmm, well, liquorice is meltable, right?"
Mikumo nodded.
"So how about this: we melt the liquorice, put them in the moulds, freeze them, melt the chocolate, put them on the liquorice along with the cinnamon, freeze that again, then boom! The worst chocolate in the world!"
"Yuu.., you're a genius."
"I know."
Mikumo took the grocery bag out of her hand and dug around inside to grab the liquorice, before opening up the packet and tossing it into a bowl that magically appeared on the table, because, I don't know, it was a kitchen, and bowls are kitchen stuff, I guess.
"So... how do we melt liquorice?" Yuu asked, clearly not having thought this quite through as she placed a spoon into it too.
"Throw it in the microwave?" It sounded more like a question than an answer, but it was good enough for Yuu.
"Yeah, that sounds about right."
Yuu violently threw it into the microwave, slamming the door shut (what did the microwave do to her? A lot, apparently.)
"Wait,"
She turned to him, confused.
"Why'd you put a spoon in there?"
"To stir it with!"
"But aren't you forgetting something?"
Yuu shook her head, causing Mikumo to facepalm.
"The spoon is metal! You can't put metal into a microwave!"
"Oh, right! That was close." She quickly took the spoon out of the microwave, leaving just the liquorice sitting in the metal bowl. "How long should we put it in for?"
"Maybe... five minutes?"
"Alright!" Yuu then set the timer for five minutes on the microwave, as the both of them then looked into it eagerly.
"We're such good bakers," Mikumo muttered to himself, his eyes practically sparkling as he watched the bowl spin.
Yuu was about to agree, until her eyebrows pinched together, eyes squinting. "Hey, is the bowl supposed to spark like that?-"
"I don't think so-"

ONE FIRE HAZARD LATER...
Mikumo and Yuu sat on the couch, very much burnt and charred, with a small flame still burning on the side, matching the rest of the common area. Mikumo patted it down.
"Maybe we should find an actual recipe next time."
"I think that'd be best."
