ELLIANA MADE HER WAY DOWN THE LONG SET STAIRS TO HEAR TWO PEOPLE TALKING. She didn't want to intrude, so she turned herself invisible once she was halfway down the steps. She saw a woman who had curly hair like hers. It was a bit lighter and the woman was wearing a designer outfit. Allison was the one she was describing herself of the details. The shorter one was Vanya she soon figured out.
"Ah. What is she doing here?" Elliana heard a voice ask as whoever entered the room. "You don't belong here. Not after what you did."
Elli gave a confused look as to she was confused on what Vanya had doneโand why this man dressed in spandex was threatening her like this.
"Well, that was quite rude," Elli spoke out of the blue then slapped her hand over her mouth as the three adults look around in confusion.
"Who. . . said that?" Diego look around. Elli sighed as she made herself visible, scaring said adult. "Jesus! Who're you?"
"Oh, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Elliana. I wrote you all a letter a while ago," she smiled as she spoke to the three of them. "Your father adopted me five years agoโ"
"After your parents passed," Vanya and Allison finished in unison as Elli nodded.
"I remember reading over the letter a few times. I'm so sorry I didn't write back," Vanya apologized.
"Me too. I meant to, but I was too busy with everything andโ" Allison began but couldn't finish when Elliana cut her off.
"It's okay, you all have lives you need to live. That's fine," she gave a small smile. "I just wanted you all to know about me so that if you came one day, you wouldn't be wondering who I was and why I was here. I've also been dying to meet you all," she grinned.
"Oh," Allison gave a shocked look, turning to her two siblings who just shrugged and gave a slight smile to the small girl. "well, nice to meet you, Elliana."
"Elli's just fine," she shook her head. "Question. Aren't there supposed to be two more of you?" The three siblings looked to each other and nodded as Vanya moved towards her.
"Yeah, they're probably around here somewhere. If you go searching around, you'll probably find Klaus," Vanya shrugged as her siblings nodded in agreement.
"I'll see if I can find him along with. . . Luther, right?" she stumbled upon the last name as she couldn't remember it well. The three nodded as she smiled. "Oh, okay. Well, thank you for telling me. I shall see you all later. Have a good day." And with that, Elli ventured upstairs.
"Well, that was. . . something," Allison admitted as Diego shook his head and headed upstairs.
"She's very. . . sweet," Diego spoke as he made his way upstairs to go into Reginald's room.
"Sorry about the stuff Diego said. None of that is true, Vanya, you deserve to be here as much as the rest of us," Allison nodded as she tried to give her sibling some hope.
Vanya shook her head. "Some of them just don't see that," she made her way into the living room. Allison sighed as she couldn't rope her sister into thinking everyone still loved her but it was no use. Everything was down the drain.
Allison then made her path upstairs to the old rooms her and her siblings used to share. As she passed one of the rooms, she heard talking. Becoming curious, she stood near the door and listened in.
"Oh, Mace, did you see? I talked to them! I really talked to them! I haven't talked to someone other than you, Pogo, Grace, or Reginald in ages!" she heard Elli speak to Mace.
As she waited to hear a response from Mace she remembered how in the letter it said that he was dead. Maybe she was related to Klaus in someway or their powers were connected somehow. The questions spiraled her mind as Allison plucked up the courage to knock on her door.
"Oh, hush Mace," she heard Elli hiss. "You are not more handsome then Tom Hiddleston. Stop lying to yourself." Allison chuckled at the response as she heard the doorknob turn then open to reveal Elli.
"How may I help you?" she asked kindly.
"Well, I was wondering if you wanted to come and help me find Klaus. I have a feeling where he might be," Allison gave sneaky grin as Elli nodded her head.
"Okay, one sec," Elli opened her door fully so Allison could now see her full room. Allison stepped in and saw that the layout was similar to hers and how it had only a few decorations. "Okay, let's go," Elli then skipped out of the room and waited for Allison to exit before closing her door. "Oh," Elli pulled Allison's attention. "Mace said you're very beautiful and the jacket you're wearing brings out your eyes."
Allison gave a faint smile as she thanked the thin air then continued to Reginald's office space to where she believed Klaus would be lurking. And to her surprise, he was. He was crouched under his desk, searching for something.
"Where's the cash, Dad?" he pondered as Allison made her way over to the side of the desk, peaking at what her brother was doing. Elli stood at the head of the desk watching the weird, yet, interesting action happen. "Where's the cash?"
"Klaus?" Allison called, causing him to pop his head up. "What are you doing in here?"
"Oh! Allison!" he gasped. "Wow, is that you?" Klaus took a double take. "Hey, come here," he pulled his older sister into a hug. "Long time. Too long," he sighed. "Hey, I was hoping to see you, actually, because I wanted to get your autograph. Add it to my collection!"
Allison grabbed his wrist to see a rehab bracelet still attached, "Just out of rehab?"
"No, no. No, no, no, no," Klaus denied. "No. I'm done with all that," he sighs. "I just came down here to prove to myself that the old man was really gone. And he is!" he cheered. "He's dead. Yeah!" he clapped his hands causing Elli to laugh aloud and Allison to chuckle quietly. Klaus looked over to the five foot five girl and held his arms out, moving quickly towards her.
"Oh, you must be Elliana!" he suffocated her in a non-escaping hug as Elli's eyes widened. She was not expecting this reaction from any of them. "I've been dying to meet you. We both have," he explained. "You are so adorable and so young, my gosh! You are beautiful, love," Klaus ran a hand down her cheek as Elli smiled.
"Also, Allison, you know how I know dad's dead?" Klaus went back to their previous conversation. "Because if he were alive, not one of us would be allowed to set foot in this room," Klaus made his way back to the black office chair that sat behind the desk. "He was always in here, our whole childhood, plotting his next torment, right?" he chuckled. "Remember how he used to look at us? That scowl?"
Elliana nodded as she too could remember countless times Reginald would give her that face. It scared her not gonna lie.
"Thank Christ he's not our real father so we couldn't inherit those cold, dead eyes!" Klaus pulled his eye lids back easing Elli and Allison into a laugh. "Number Three!" he intimidated Reginald as he kept the two girls laughing.
"Get out of his chair." Someone announced leading Klaus to jump out of the office chair.
Klaus gasped, "Oh, wow, Luther! Wow, you really, uh..." Klaus gestured to his body size and, by God, was he huge. "You really filled out over the years, huh?" Elliana sputtered a laugh but quickly saved it by covered with a cough.
"Klaus," Luther started, but Klaus cut him off already excusing himself.
"Save the lecture," he put his arms in the air. "I was already leaving," he brushed pasted Elli giving her a pat on the head. "You guys can talk amongst yourselves," he chuckled softly.
As he was close to exiting the room, Luther stopped him by putting a hand to his chest, "Drop it."
"Ex-squeeze me?" Klaus gave a look of confusion.
"Do it," Luther demanded. "Now."
"All right. All right," Klaus moved out of Luther grasped and started to drop everything he stole from Reginald. "It's just an advance on our inheritance! That's all it is. No need to get your little panties in a bunch," he made his way to the door before turning back around. "Bye, Elli! Hopefully we can talk more!" he waved and received one back.
Luther turned his gaze to Elliana as Klaus fully exited the room. "So, you're Elliana?" Elliana nodded with a smile. "Oh, nice to meet you. I'm Luther or Number One," he put his hand out for her to shake which she did.
"It's nice to meet you. Did you get my letter?" she questioned.
He nodded. "Yes, but I wasn't able to send one back. That's my fault." Elli shook her head.
"That's okay. Just as long as you all received it," she smiled then started to make her way out of the room. "I'll leave you two to talk," she gave a smirk.
"Damn! He's huge! I think that's King Kong!" Mace exclaimed as he looked Luther up and down.
"Mace Acker! Be nice!" Elli lectured, now returning back to her room with her dead friend by her side.
โขโขโขโขโข
The whole family were now placed in the living room area. It was awkward. Very awkward. The only thing that was keeping them from not falling asleep was the sound of the fire crackling and the sound of Klaus making a drink concoction out of multiple alcohols that Reginald had in his liquor cabinet.
"Um. . . I guess we should get this started," Luther announced. "So, I figured we could have a sort of memorial service in the courtyard at sundown. Say a few words just at Dad's favorite spot." His siblings gave a puzzled look.
"Dad had a favorite spot?" Allison questioned as she took another sip from her drink.
"You know, under the oak tree," Luther referenced. "We used to sit out there all the time. None of you ever did that?" The siblings shook their heads.
"I thought his favorite spot was his office," Elli said in a whisper as Mace shrugged beside her.
"Will there be refreshments?" Klaus spoke, coming around the couch. "Tea? Scones? Cucumber sandwiches are always a winner." Elli thought about the food he stated. She never tried a cucumber sandwich or even a scone. Why did they taste like?
"What? No. And put that out," Luther gestured to his cigarette. "Dad didn't allow smoking in here."
"Is that my skirt?" Allison placed one of her arms on her knee as she looked at Klaus' outfit.
"What?" Klaus looked down. "Oh, yeah, this. I found it in your room. It's a little dated, I know, but it's very breathey on the bits," he gestured to his under area.
"Listen up," Luther pulled back the attention. "Still some important things that we need to discuss, all right?"
Diego sighed. "Like what?"
"Like the way he died."
"And here we go," Diego rolled his eyes.
"I don't understand. I thought they said it was a heart attack," Vanya spoke up on a rather soft voice.
"Yeah, according to the coroner," Luther didn't hesitate to announce.
"Well, wouldn't they know?" Vanya spoke.
"Theoretically," Luther said.
" "Theoretically?" " Allison mocked.
"I'm just saying, at the very least, something happened. The last time that I talked to Dad, he sounded strange," Luther gave evidence.
"Oh, quelle surprise!" Klaus gargled his drink, causing it to spill down the sides of his mouth. Elli, being kind, wiped the side of his mouth so none of it would get on his clothes.
"Strange how?" Vanya asked the burning question as Klaus thanked Elli.
"He sounded on edge. Told me I should be careful who to trust," Luther have a stern look.
"Luther, he was a paranoid, bitter old man who was starting to lose what was left of his marbles," Diego said.
"No. He must have known something was going to happen," Luther looked towards Klaus. "Look, I know you don't like to do it, but I need you to talk to Dad."
Klaus scoffed, "I can't just call Dad in the afterlife
and be like, "Dad, could you just... stop playing tennis with Hitler for a moment and take a quick call?" " Klaus waved his joint in the air as gave a small, quiet chuckle.
"Since when? That's your thing," Luther tested.
"I'm not in the right... frame of mind," Klaus admitted.
Allison have him an annoyed look. "You're high?"
Klaus laughed. "Yeah! Yeah!"
Elli gave a confused look as to what they were talking about. What was high? Was he high off the ground or something? Because as she looked at him, he was sitting next to her.
"It's means he's on drugs, Ches," Mace spoke as Elli oh'd, but Klaus gave a quick look around before turning back to Luther.
"I mean, how are you not, listening to this nonsense?" Klaus rolled his eyes.
"Well, sober up, this is important," Luther sighs. "Then there's the issue of the missing monocle."
"Who gives a shit about a stupid monocle?" Diego cursed.
"Jeez, did this family always curse?" Elli thought to herself among other questions.
"Exactly. It's worthless. So whoever took it, I think it was personal. Someone close to him. Someone with a grudge," Luther eyed all his siblings. One in particular who was zoned out, playing with her hair.
"Where are you going with this?" Klaus asked.
"Oh, isn't it obvious, Klaus?" Diego looks at him. "He thinks one of us killed Dad." The four oldest looked at Luther to see him grunting and scoffing lightly. Acting as if he didn't.
"You do?" Klaus spoke, knocking his head back a bit.
"How could you think that?" Vanya gave a disappointing look then got up to leave the room.
"Great job, Luther. Way to lead," Diego announced as he stood up.
"That's not what I'm saying," Luther tried to stop everyone from leaving.
"You're crazy, man. You're crazy," Klaus pointed his joint towards the man, now standing up to leave. "Crazy."
Luther huffed. "I've not finished."
"Sorry, I'm just gonna go murder Mom. Be right back," Klaus spun around to talk to Luther.
"That's not what I was saying," he looked towards Allison who was the last of the oldest in the room. "I didn't . . ." he sighed. "Allison," she got up and left with a disapproving look. "Jeez . . ."
Luther sighed. "That went well," he looked towards Elli who was too busy still fiddling with her hair to pay attention to him if he spoke. At the last of it, Luther left the room.
"Elli," Mace called but received no response. "Elli," he called again. "Elli!" she snapped out of La-La Land and looked towards him.
"Hmm?" she gave an innocent look.
"They've all left. You're the only one here still," Mace pointed around the room.
"Ohhh," Elli drug out. "Welp, that's too bad. The conversation was getting interesting," she plopped long ways onto the couch and looked up to the ceiling.
"Wanna go to your room? I have a fun idea we could do," Mace looked at Elli with his mischievous grin.
"Okay," Elli nodded.
"We're gonna need the cheese cubes," Mace spoke.
โขโขโขโขโข
Elli was now shoving multiple cheese cubes into her mouth. "Twenty-seven, twenty-eight," her and Mace counted out each one that entered her mouth, "twenty-nine, thirty, thirty-one, thirtyโ" So on and so forth. She went nonstop. She was going to beat his record.
While doing that, music was playing throughout the house. She didn't know what song it was, but it sounded old. She didn't hear music much so she didn't really know. As the music played, she grabbed another cube.
"Come on, Elli, maybe you could beat my record," Mace admitted. He already claimed his record to be forty, so Elli didn't have that long of a way to go.
"Thirty-eight, thirty-nineโ" Lighting cracked outside scaring Elli into almost dropping the next cheese cubes. "Forty, forty-one!" she quickly placed them into her mouth. "Yay! I finishโ" she started to choke on the cheese as multiple objects started to fly around the room.
"What the hell is happening?" Mace ran out of the room towards the stairs.
Elli chewed then swallowed the rest of the cheese cubes with a huge gulp. "No! You don't run towards the sound! That's how you die! Again!"
Elli ran down the stairs to see her siblings gathering near the door that led to the courtyard. Diego harshly pushed the door open and walked out into the courtyard as his siblings followed.
"What is it?" Vanya asked as the violent wind blew through her hair.
"Don't get too close!" Allison shouted to her siblings.
"Yeah, no shit." Diego hissed. "Elli, go back inside. You'll get hurt!" Diego pushed the young one behind him. Elli bumped into Vanya who shielded her behind her body.
"Looks like some sort of temporal anomaly," Luther observed. "Either that or a miniature black hole. One of the two."
"Pretty big difference there, Paul Bunyan," Diego said with sarcasm.
"Out of the way!" Klaus shouted pushing past everyone. He held a fire extinguisher which he sprayed out towards the strange blue, pulsing anomaly. Once that didn't work, he launched it into the portal.
Allison gave her brother a weird look. "What is that gonna do?"
Klaus shrugged. "I don't know. Do you have a better idea?" The electricity crackled as Klaus moved behind his siblings, clinging onto Elliana.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Everybody get behind me," Luther announced.
"Yeah, get behind us," Diego's added.
"I vote for running, c'mon!" Klaus spoke as Elli nodded.
"I agree! Already ahead of you!" Elli ran back into the house. She moved the curtain from her field of vision and watched as a boy fell from the anomaly onto the ground.
As the sky started to clear, she stepped back outside to see the five siblings walking towards the boy. "Does anyone else see little Number Five, or is that just me?" Klaus spoke out as the boy looked at the adults in confusion.
He looked at them then at his body. "Shit," he cursed.
"Oh, so everyone in the family curses, huh?" Eli spoke to herself as she walked back into the house.
โขโขโขโขโข
"What's the date? The exact date," The mystery boy spoke as they were all now in the kitchen. He moved towards the counter top to grab the loaf of bread.
"The 24th," Vanya answered, watching him closely.
"Of what?" Mystery boy asked harshly.
"March," Vanya answered once again.
Mystery boy paused before he answered, "Good."
"So, are we gonna talk about what just happened?" Luther asked as said boy took two pieces of bread out of the package and set them onto a cutting board. "It's been 17 years," Luther stood up.
Mystery boy scoffed. "It's been a lot longer than that," he then disappeared and appeared near the top of the fridge.
"I haven't missed that," Luther huffed as he sat back down.
"Where'd you go?" Diego questioned.
"The future," he picked up the packet of marshmallows and teleported as it seemed back to his original spot. "It's shit, by the way."
"Called it," Klaus put a hand up. The mystery boy placed the marshmallows down then headed to the fridge.
"I should've listened to the old man," he admitted as he grabbed peanut butter out of the fridge. "You know, jumping through space is one thing, jumping through time is a toss of the dice," he brought everything he collected to the table.
He looked up to his siblings and saw Elliana standing beside Vanya and gave a confused look. "Who're you?"
"Oh, I'm Elliana. But, you can call me Elli," she smiled. "You must be Five. I think. Right?" Five nodded as he then looked towards Klaus.
"Nice dress," he continued making his sandwich as it appeared.
"Oh, well, danke!" Klaus flung the bottom of his dress skirt around.
