THE FUNERAL WAS NOW IN SESSION.
Elli and the rest of her siblings stood around the courtyard as the rain poured onto their umbrellas. They all stood near the tree Luther talked about and waited for Pogo to start the service.
As Elli stood in between Klaus and Five, she looked towards her siblings and observed them. Five was now in a uniform, one Elli was in but for boys. Klaus had Elli's clear, pink rimmed umbrella that she got from Pogo on her eighth birthday and he looked quite fabulous with it if she said so herself.
She looked towards Allison who's had a perfect posture and copied her actions, straightening her back more. She then looked towards Grace who had walked with Diego who, Elli now just noticed, didn't have an umbrella and neither did Lutherโand saw how she had her chin up at an angle. So, Elli did the same, trying to make herself look like her.
"Hun, stop it," Mace called out from beside her. He wasn't getting wet because he was a ghost, obviously, but he still stood with her for comfort. "You're fine as you are. You don't need to change." Elli ignored her ghost friend and shushed him.
"Hush. I'm just. . . perfecting myself," she nodded to herself as Five gave her a weird look, then shook his head ignoring it.
"Did something happen?" Grace asked as everyone looked towards her with a weird look.
"Dad died. Remember?" asked Allison as Grace changed her emotions.
"Oh. Yes, of course," she looked down with a sorrowful look.
"Is Mom okay?" Allison asked as she looked towards Diego and Elli.
Elli nodded as Diego said, "Yeah, yeah, she's fine. She just needs to rest. You know, recharge."
Pogo entered the circle and looked towards Luther. "Whenever you're ready, dear boy."
Luther nodded as he took the top of the urn and tilted it over for the ashes to spill out onto the grass. Well, the problem was there were barely any ashes in the urn and it looked very anticlimactic.
"Probably would have been better with some wind," Luther admitted as he grimaced.
"Does anyone wish to speak?" Pogo asked the children and Grace but received no answer. "Very well. In all regards, Sir Reginald Hargreeves made me what I am today. For that alone, I shall forever be in his debt. He was my master. . . and my friend, and I shall miss him very much," Pogo frowned as he tightened the grip on his umbrella.
"He leaves behind a complicated legacyโ"
"He was a monster," Diego interrupts as Klaus lets out a laugh, letting the smoke from his cigarette go into the air.
Elli gave Diego a confused look. Why was he a monster?
"He was a bad person and a worse father," Diego continued. "The world's better off without him."
"Diego," Allison tried to stop him but he kept going.
"My name is Number Two. You know why? Because our father couldn't be bothered to give us actual names. He had Mom do it," Diego looked towards Grace.
"Would anyone like something to eat?" Grace asked out of the blue.
"No, it's okay, Mom," Vanya answered.
"Oh, okay," Graces smile started to fade, but she tried not to let it go. As Elli saw that, she went up to her.
"Hey," Elli spoke and Grace turned her head towards her. "How about. . . you make some cookies? The ones you always make me when I'm sad," Elli smiled.
"Oh, brilliant idea! I'll get started on it right now," Grace grinned, squeezing her cheek as she went inside the house. Elli gave a sigh of relief once she was inside. She didn't want Grace to watch what was probably about to go down.
"Look, you wanna pay your respects?" Diego stepped forward. "Go ahead. But at least be honest about the kind of man he was."
"You should stop talking now," Luther hissed, stepping up to his brother.
"You know, you of all people should be on my side here, Number One," Diego looked towards his brother.
"I am warning you," Luther moved forward once more.
"After everything he did to you? He had to ship you a million miles away."
"Diego, stop talking," Luthers face was growing red as he got more and more angry.
"That's how much he couldn't stand the sight of you!" Diego poked Luthers chest and Luther threw a punch his way which he dodged. Luther threw one more punch which got Diego more riled up.
"Boys, stop this at once!" Pogo announced.
"Come on, big boy!" Diego shouted as Luther came his way. He grunted as he punched him on the back twice. Klaus shielded his arm in front of Five and Elli, but Five swatted his arm away in disgust and Elli hid behind him.
"Stop it!" Vanya shouted.
"Hit him! Hit him!" Klaus started to cheer as Elli gave him a disapproving look. Pogo, done with all of their foolishness, scoffed and walked back inside the mansion.
As both of them continued fighting, Five became tired of their incompetent actions and decided it was time to leave. "We don't have time for this," he scoffed then patted Elli's shoulder as he made his exit back inside.
"Come here, big boy!" Diego announced to Luther before Luther lunged forward and punched towards him, but missed a few feet and punched Ben's statue.
"Oh. . ." Klaus gave a sigh.
"And there goes Ben's statue," Allison gave a look over her shoulder in disgust.
Diego reached to his belt and pulled out a small knife. "Diego, no!" Vanya shouted but it was too late, he already threw the knife which cut Luther in the arm. Luther gasped and panted as he looked towards his newly cut arm. He look at Diego with betrayed eyes and he made his way past everyone and into the house.
"You never know when to stop, do you?" Vanya stopped by Diego.
"You got enough material for your sequel yet?" Diego asked which made Elli confused. She wrote a book?
"He was my father, too," Vanya looked betrayed as she turned her heal, walking inside. Diego looked to the side and sighed as he made his way inside too.
"Well, that was a nice funeral. Let's do it again!" Mace cheered as he sat beside Klaus who was sitting down on a metal black bench shaking because of the cold. Poor man forgot a coat and was wearing light clothing.
"Klaus," Elli ran over and took off her scarf pulling it over his shoulders. "you're gonna get sick in this weather without a jacket. We don't want you to catch anything."
"I'm fine, El, don't worry," he lifted himself off the bench and made his way towards the now wet, soggy ashes. "I bet you're loving this. Hmm?" he asked the ashes. "The team at its best. It's just like old times," he took one more drag from his cigarette then placed it into the ashes.
"Best funeral ever," he walked towards Elli, giving her a pat on head before he made his way inside. Elli smiled at him but as soon as he went inside, she made her way towards the ashes and took the cigarette out, throwing it down a couple feet away and crushed it with her foot.
As she placed her coat on the coat rack near the door, she smelt the sweet smell of Graces gingerbread cookies. She smiled as she made her way to the kitchen to see a plate of cookies on the table, baked fresh from the oven. They were still warm as Elli took one into hand and ate it as if it were the best cookie ever. And it was obviously.
The smell seemed to have attracted Mace because she heard his footsteps from the floor above. "Oh, man. Those cookies smell delicious," he sat on top of the table and practically drooled over them. "I wish I could taste them," he placed his hands on one of the cookies, but it phased straight through. "You know, when I was little, my mom used to make me cookies just like these," Mace smiled at the thought of his mother. "They were the best ever. I would do anything to try them again."
Elli smiled as Mace went on about his mother. She loved how he would talk about the things she would say, do, or even make. "She sounds awesome, Mace."
Mace lifted an eyebrow. "You say that every time I talk about my mom."
"Because she does sound awesome," Elli shrugged as she made her way over to to grab another.
"What're these?" Five appeared on the opposite side of the table scaring Elli and Mace half to death.
"Christ have crosses! Don't do that!" Elli snapped as she placed her hand on her chest. "Why do you keep doing that?"
"It's my power. I can spacial jump into different places and times," Five explained as he examined the cookies. Elli nodded as she now understood what he could do. "Now, I'll ask my question again. What are these?"
"Oh, they're cookies Grace made. Gingerbread ones. They taste amazing, you have to try one," Elli grinned as she held one up to him.
Five stared at the cookie before slowly taking it from her hand. He gave her a reconsidering look before he placed it in his mouth. He slowly chewed on the cookie and tilted his head as the flavors flowed in his mouth.
"Hmm, it's pretty good. Not bad," Five nodded to her and took another bite. Elli sat down and began munching on another as Five began to search the stack of foods they had. "I read your letter," Elli looked towards him as he spoke. "So you have invisibility?" Elli nodded and she placed yet another cookie in her mouth. "Cool. That can probably come in handy sometimes."
Elli nodded. "It does a lot. Especially when Mace wants to play hide and seek. Or as he likes call it, hide and scare," she looked to Mace who put his hands up in defense.
"Not my fault you're a wuss puss." Elli stuck her tongue out at him as he did it back being as immature as her. Klaus entered the kitchen and sat down at the head of table with a green electric guitar in his grasp.
After a few minutes, Allison entered and placed her coat on the chair beside Elli. "Where's Vanya?" she questioned.
"Oh, she's gone," Klaus put his hands in the air.
"That's unfortunate," Five spoke as Allison and Elli nodded in agreement.
"Yeah," Allison sighed.
"An entire square block. Forty-two bedrooms, nineteen bathrooms, but no, not a single drop of coffee," Five gave a tight lipped smile as he placed down an empty coffee creamer cup on the table.
"Dad hated caffeine," Allison admitted.
"Well, he hated children, too, and he had plenty of us," Klaus hugged the guitar close to his chest as Allison and Five gave him disturbed looks as Elli was just plainly confused.
"I'm taking the car," Five announced.
"Where are you going?" Questioned Allison.
"To get a decent cup of coffee," Five talked back.
"Do you even know how to drive?" she gave another question.
"I know how to do everything," he hissed then spacial jumped away.
"I feel like we should try and stop him," Klaus got up and waved his arms around the area he was just at, "but then again, I also just kinda want to see what happens." They all heard the engine start and move away quickly and they assumed that Five was now gone.
"All right, I guess I'll see you guys in, what, ten years?" Diego walked in and took a cookie off the plate and took a bite. "When Pogo dies?"
"Not if you die first," Allison sassed.
"Yeah, love you too, sis," Diego gave sarcasm as he took another bite of his cookie. "Good luck on your next film. Hope it turns out better than your marriage, huh?" Allison gave a glare as Diego moved on with a grin. "Bye, Elli. It was nice meeting you!"
"Bye, Diego!" she waved to his back as he exited the kitchen and Klaus followed behind him.
"Well, I'm going to head up to my old room now," Allison spoke. "It's been a long night and we all need sleep. So do you," she looked at Elli who had now finished the last cookie. Allison picked back up her jacket then started to leave the kitchen. "Bye, Elli. Good night."
"Good night, Allison. Nice meeting you," Elli sighed as she was now alone in the kitchen. "That was a nice reunion, don't you think?" she turned to Mace who shrugged.
"Eh. I've seen better," Mace hopped off the counter and onto the floor, brushing of the invisible dust of his clothes. "Let's go to bed. You look pretty tired."
Elli shrugged, "Okay, let's go. How about you tell me about the new constellation you saw yesterday till I fall asleep?" Mace nodded as he walked beside her to the grand stairs case that lead to all of their rooms.
"Okay, darling, let's get going."
