"we're gonna have a what?"

sunoo looks up with disbelief as he stares at the paper that sunghoon just handed to him. all the members are present inside the headquarters, since they were all called for their weekly meeting.

"i've decided to agree in doing the team building, since there will be no further activities for the uni this month." sunghoon stated firmly, his hand tapping on the table.

"but you said you don't want to do a team building," sunoo glares at his friend, who only shrugged in response.

"what a great day to be alive!" chenle shouted in glee, clapping his hands. "i'll be in charge of the whole itinerary for the trip, okay?"

taeyoung grunts. "what about our safety? we're gonna end up having a dead body if he joins the retreat!" he points at chenle who doesn't seem to care.

"don't worry, we'll bring sedatives if someone gets out of control."

"wow, thanks hoon. really appreciate your concern towards the members." chenle gave him a thumbs up while looking grim.

ni-ki, who is seated beside sunoo on the couch, leans in to whisper towards the older. "hyung, don't you like going to team buildings?"

sunoo glanced at him. "no. do i look like i enjoy being tortured by chenle?"

riki lets out a chuckle. that sounds fun though. i can't wait for the trip.

"what kind of detergent do you use again?" heeseung points at the blue detergent powder on the first shelf. "that one right?"

sunoo nodded while pushing the cart lightly. heeseung grabs three detergents and put it inside the cart.

"what else do you need? ah wait..." heeseung stops by the dairy section to grab two cartons of milk.

"hyung, can we get chips too?" sunoo looks at the older with a grin.

they went through the aisle of chips so sunoo can pick whatever he likes to eat, while heeseung just watched him. the two shopped peacefully; they talk about random things as they walk together throughout the whole time.

for a while, it felt natural— as if it's a routine that they've been doing together for years.

just for a while.

after a few more minutes, they finally finished buying groceries. on their way out, sunoo stops walking as he spots a food stall that sells takoyaki. he suppresses a smile, remembering how riki complained about the food being too hot.

"sun?" heeseung follows his line of sight. "do you want to eat takoyaki? let's buy—"

"no, it's okay hyung. i'm not hungry." he took his phone out of his pocket as he felt it vibrating.

he chuckled as he saw the contact name on the screen. he heard heeseung talk again, but he was busy thinking of a reply to listen to the older.

"who's that?" sunoo quickly put his phone back inside his pocket when heeseung asked.

"it's the group chat... just planning about the retreat." he bit his lower lip as a lie slipped out of his mouth.

why am i even lying? it's not as if he would care who i talked to. he didn't care back then, too.

heeseung nodded but didn't say anything. the atmosphere grew awkward as silence enveloped them.

"sun, how are you these days?"

heeseung knew how absurd it sounds. the two have been friends since the start of high school, and asking about how the younger is— it feels foreign.

because him, out of all people, should know how sunoo feels.

sunoo blinks fast, trying to collect his thoughts. "i'm— i'm good. you know me, i have a lot of things to do everyday."

the parking lot is only a few meters away, but it feels like their feet are moving too slow.

"of course. you're always busy," heeseung's stares linger on sunoo for a few seconds before averting his eyes somewhere else.

"what about you hyung?"

"i'm still the same, life's not that great but i'll live." they laughed at heeseung's statement.

the two continued to converse, oblivious by the fact that both of them have mastered the art of faking their smiles.

trying to mask their true feelings towards each other may cause pain— but as long as they continue to pretend that they're fine, does it really matter?
