He ran a hand across his mouth, almost in frustration as I sat next to him, putting both of our cups of water down on the kitchen table.

"Thanks," He sighed with a forced smile, still looking at the papers facing him.

"You okay?" I almost rubbed his arm, but stopped myself out of fear of being too touchy.

"Yeah, it's nothing I'm fine," He shook his head.

All I wanted was to know what was going on inside his mind, it was a constant thought I had each time we were with each other.

"You know y/n, I've been thinking, we should hang out sometimes," He leaned further into his chair before glancing over me.

"We are hanging out right now, idiot," I smirked at him while grabbing my pencil, earning a playful eye roll from the boy beside me.

"You know what I mean, idiot," He mocked, poking my cheek which caught me off guard. "Whenever we hang out now, we're doing math, I don't want you to associate me with math," He said dramatically.

I had way too many good memories with this boy to associate him with something as minor and unimportant as math.

"Besides, we're friends right? Friends hang out with each other," He continued, as I was starting to feel his closeness more, even though he stayed glued to his seat.

"Yeah, they do," I nodded with a clear of a throat while avoiding his eyes which I could feel lingering on my skin.

I couldn't help but to grow nervous when the tension filled the room. I wondered if he could feel it too.

"Y/n Y/l/n, will you go on a date with me?" He asked nonchalantly with a soft smile.

"W-what?" My eyes widen, as I looked down, trying to hide the expression building on my face.

"As friends, right?" He half corrected himself with a teasing grin.

"As friends," I nodded while turning my head to face him.

Our eyes finally met, as we sat in the happiest but saddest silence I have ever known.

Friends.

Our moment was shortly interrupted by Skylar loudly swinging the door open, closely followed by my brother.

Their loud laughs became quieter at the sight of Eli and I sitting in the dimly lit kitchen. I only hoped that my red face calmed itself down from earlier.

"Hello lovebirds," Skylar ruffed up my hair teasingly as I stared at her with deadly eyes. Eli seemed to think she was funny with her remarks.

"Eli," My brother crossed his arms with an intimidating look.

"Dawson," Eli responded nonchalantly.

"What are you doing here anyways?" Dawson's eyebrows furrowed as he looked at Eli almost in disgust.

"Your sister's my tutor," He sarcastically smiled at my brother who looked unimpressed with me.

"Maths?" Dawson scoffed while Skylar and I rolled our eyes at the stupid boys.

"Yeah you could say that," Eli got up from his seat when Dawson got a little too close.

"I don't know what the hell you think you're doing with her, but I won't let you play with her anymore, not when she cried herself to sleep every night because of you," Dawson poked at Eli's chest.

Eli face visibly dropped, making me very uncomfortable.

"Dawson st-"

"I was leaving anyways," Eli ran out the door, bumping shoulders with Dawson on his way out.

"God Dawson you're such a jerk," I got up from my seat, frustratingly hitting his chest.

"I'm only looking out for you y/n!" He raised his voice .

"I can look out for myself," I spat venomously as Skylar awkwardly watched us fight.

It was not the first time it happened, and certainly not the last.

"Well, clearly, you can't, " His arms shot up, making me flinch.

I had been physically tensed after what had happened with Tory not so long ago. I didn't want to admit it; but I was scared.

His face dropped before his eyebrows furrowed in confusion.

"Did you think I was going to hit you?" He whispered softly.

"No, I-" I stopped myself, not knowing what to say.

Clearly, he noticed and pulled me into a hug, which was rare for Dawson.

"I'm always here for you, little duckling," He placed his chin on top of my head reassuringly. "Always, whenever, wherever,"

"I know," I whispered into his chest, holding back tears.

"I love you guys," Skylar said with a chocked up voice before joining the hug, making us both laugh at the situation.

~~~
My little dove πŸ•Š
meet me outside your apartment at 12. Get ready for the best date you'll ever have ;)
I grinned at my phone excitedly.
me
I'll be there.
~~~

My face lit up the second I saw him on his motorcycle, looking as handsome as ever under the moonlight.

"Cool ride," I giggled while his smile widened.

He takes out another helmet and puts it on my head before making sure it's secure. I hoped on the back, carefully not touching him too much.

"Where are you taking me?"

"You'll see, be patient," I could hear his smirk.

As we drove off, I couldn't help myself but to put my arms around his waist, making our bodies fully
connect. Thankfully, he couldn't see my flushed face.

I liked this. I really did.

The feeling of him being so close, the speed of the motorcycle, the darkness of the city lit by the moon, the soft, warm summer wind grazing my skin....

We soon arrived at a familiar spot; The spot where we first interacted with each other.

The beach.

*Flashback*

"I'm sorry y/n". He continued.

He was so concerned and concentrated, which foolishly gave me butterflies.

One of his hands was on my jaw lifting my face, and that was all I could think about.

He looked so pretty I could see every detail in his face that I couldn't see before, his big grey eyes, his soft-looking dirty blond hair and that scar on his lip...

"Does this hurt?" He continued dabbing my face and cleaning it before his eyes met mine, and he saw where I was looking.

He quickly hid his upper lip while looking down.

I only now realized why.

"Eli?"

He blushed and looked up at me, still hiding his face.

"Don't be ashamed of it... it looks badass" I said, softly pushing his hand away.

*End of flashback*

He instantly got down from the motorcycle before handing me his hand that I gladly took with a childish smile.

His hand stayed glued to mine while we started walking towards the sand, the soft coldness surprising my newly naked feet, as the waves progressively became louder.

"You like the beach, don't you?" His soothing voice interrupted my thoughts.

"I love the beach," I said while inhaling it's salty, nostalgic smell, "There's no beaches back home, so I only ever get to see them during summer. It's something to look forward too I guess,"

"Well now you got two things to look forward too," He grinned while nudging me teasingly, making me playfully roll my eyes.

The silence took over again. But, this time, it was a comfortable silence mixing with the soft waves.

We both sat down.

"I hope my brother didn't bother you too much, I'm really sorry about him, he can be such a jerk sometimes," I tightly closed my eyes while shaking my head frustratingly.

"It's okay y/n, I get it, he's only trying to protect you,"

"Well I don't want his protecting," I looked forward at the water. "I hate that he feels like he constantly needs to defend me,"

"He only does it because he loves you. I don't blame him having suspicions about me after everything I did to you," He sighed heavily. "I'm so sorry,"

"I know you are Eli," I reached for his hand.

He looks up at me curiously while I gave him a soft smile, trying to act like his hand touching mine didn't affect me at all.

"Everything's going to be alright, right?" He had a hopeful look in his eyes, that made my heart beat ten times faster.

"Everything is gonna be alright,"
