Sophia was getting ready for the party at Sasha's house with all her other friends. They were all vibing to one of Sophia's songs. Sophia was looking at the two different outfit options laid on Sasha's bed in front of her.
"THEY SAID I DID SOMETHING BAD" Nova sang, dancing and jumping away on the bed. Sasha came up behind Sophia, throwing her arm around her shoulders.
She analyzed the clothes on the bed, before pointing to the outfit on the right. It was a little kind of transparent pink top, which she matched with a white tennis skirt, and to top it off, she decided to add a belly chain. "You should wear that one." Sasha pointed at the outfit.
Sophia trusted Sasha's impeccable taste with her eyes closed, so she took the clothes and went into the bathroom to get dressed.
She put the clothes on and looked in the mirror. She smoothed down her skirt and started curling her hair. She looked in the mirror, tears welling up in her eyes, as she smiled at herself.
Was she really that bad that Chris left her for someone else so fast? All for what? Because she said she doesn't love him?
She tilted her head in the mirror. She almost felt the mirror image laugh at her, laughing at how stupid she looked, debating whether or not she loved a guy who was now with someone else.
She sighed, finally done curling her hair. She walked out of the bathroom. All of her friends gasped. "YOU LOOK SO GOOD SOPH" They yelled and all started running up to her, grabbing her arms and spinning her around.
She finally laughed with them. She was so thankful for her friends because she knew that only her friends could make her feel somewhat happy after a very awful day.
She bowed playfully. "Thank you all so much," she said while they all finished getting ready together, singing and vibing to songs.
LATER
Sophia got out of Nova's car. The group of girlfriends walked up to the front door. The music could be heard miles away from the house, and the floor felt like it was vibrating from all the movement.
There were flashing and colorful lights everywhere. Madeleine interlocked her fingers with Sophia's and leaned closer to her. "Are you okay?" she whispered to her friend. Without much thinking, Sophia found herself nodding back.
Even if she didn't really mean it.
They made their way inside, and like expected, they all separated after a few minutes. Every girl going to meet someone else, get a drink, or even go dance.
Everyone except Sophia.
Sophia walked to the kitchen and hopped on the counter. She wiggled her feet back and forth as she drank from her root beer.
She looked around for any familiar face, but she didn't know anyone. She let her head hang low, sighed at her stupid feelings. How could he have moved on so fast, she asked herself.
Disturbing her thoughts and causing her to finally look up was the sound of a door being slammed open. She awaited that someone to enter the house, and once she saw him, every present thought went flying out of the window.
His gaze somehow found hers immediately. They looked at each other through the room, neither breaking the eye contact. They both could feel the tension between them.
Not even Mia yanking on Chris' arm made him take his gaze off the girl sitting on the kitchen counter. He ran a hand through his hair, enticing her even more.
She gulped hard, while she focused on the swirling in his eyes, wondering if he might've been thinking the same thing she was thinking about.
Then a loud yell from his side made his head snap around. Sophia let out a breath that she didn't even know she was holding. She hopped off the counter, trying to get away from him and his stare.
He seemed to be arguing with Mia, who had probably missed his attention. Because she was moving her arms around frantically, while he also three his hands up in the air and then ran them down his face.
Sophia made her way towards where he was standing. His gaze fell back on her before she sidelong turned to the living room. His eyes never left her, instead they were focused on her hair while she walked away from him.
Mia threw herself in front of Chris, but he clearly didn't care, because all he did wad shove her to the side and started making his way after Sophia, leaving his poor brothers to explain his weird actions to his situationship.
Sophia was walking up the stairs, trying to find her way to the bathroom. She tried not to bump into anyone, but a guy that was walking backwards, turned around way too late and abruptly, causing him to bump right into her, leaving her stumbling backward and falling over.
With a little smile on her face, Sophia apologized, "I'm so sorry, I'm so clumsy," she said, looking at him but he only looked Sophia up and down with a smirk growing on his face. "Hey there pretty girl," he said while his lustful gaze looked over her.
Before she even got a chance to answer him, she felt two hands sneak under her arms and help her up. She looked behind her, ready to throw some fists at whoever touched her.
But she stopped herself because who'd just helped her was the one and only.
Christopher Sturniolo.
She looked at him in awe. She was glad that he was here, right when she needed him. She wanted to talk to Chris, but he put a finger up, so she shut up immediately, letting him handle this situation.
"We'll talk later Soph, I just need to have a little conversation with this guy." He said as he walked closer to the other guy. Both of them stood at almost the same height, head to head, but Chris had this look in his eyes that made the other guy back away slightly.
Chris clenched his jaw in anger. "I think you should apologize to my girl right there," Chris said as he pointed behind him at Sophia.
Sophia felt like biting her nails out of nervousness, about whatever might happen when Chris loses his temper, so she tried to intervene. "Chris, I don'tβ" She spoke up before Chris hushed her again.
"Apologize."
The other guy crossed his arms, challenging Chris. "What are you going to do if I don't?" he said, while another silly smirk made its way to his face. By the look on Chris' face, that was definitely the wrong decision.
Sophia leaned closer to Chris' ear . "Please don't punch him," she whispered, but the other boy had clearly heard it, because the smirk on his face just became more permanent.
Chris' anger took the best of him. He grabbed him by his collar and pressed him to the side wall. A gasp fell from Sophia's mouth.
Chris inched closer to the boy, slamming his body against the wall again. Now it was his time to smirk at the boy. His smirk being far scarier. "You don't know how lucky you are, little boy," He said while he raised his hands closer to the face, making the boy lose a little bit of his breath.
"Because I would've fucked you up. You're very lucky my girl told me not to." He said while he challenged the other boy, with a threatening look. "You already know what you need to do," He whispered, his eyes not leaving the boy's face.
"I'm sorry," The other guy said hastily, but apparently that wasn't good enough for Chris, because he only slammed him harder against the wall. Again. The boy trying his very best to get out of his death grip.
"Say it like you mean it," Chris said in a calm tone, which by the look on the boy's face scared him even more. "I- I'm so sorry, okay! I should've been looking where I was going!" The guy added to his apology.
Chris slammed him against the wall for a last time before ripping his hands off the boy's collar, making the boy slide down the wall to the ground. "Get the fuck out of my face," Chris said. The boy immediately stood up and stumbled downstairs.
Chris grabbed Sophia's hand and pushed her into the nearest bedroom while entering it right behind her. "We need to talk," he said while he looked at the girl with a sad expression.
Sophia scoffed at him. "No, I don't think we do," Sophia said while she tried to make her way around him back out of the room, but he extended his arms and didn't let her pass him.
"Don't." He warned her.
She huffed and walked over to the bed. She sat down and crossed her legs. Chris walked up to her. He was nervous, she could see it in his eyes because his eyes were frantically searching her face for any sign of hope that she might forgive him.
Wanting to get back downstairs, Sophia pressed him. "What's there even to talk about, Chris?" She said, now slowly entering a furious stage. She stood back up, walking very close to his face.
All he wanted to do was to smash his lips onto hers, but he held back.
He ran a hand down his face. "We have to talk about everything! about us!" He whisper-yelled at her. He saw her face fall, and the flashbacks that hit him of her reaction made him want to fall on his knees.
Sophia threw her arms in the air. "There is no us, Chris! Not anymore!" She was now fully yelling at him, with tears streaming down her face.
Chris leaned in and wiped her cheeks off, but she furrowed her eyebrows and tried to get his arms off of her. "Get off of me!" she said.
Chris' heart broke at the fact that she didn't even want him to touch her anymore. A month ago, she would've loved him touching her cheeks. Now? She can't even bear looking at him.
"This isn't only my fault!" Chris yelled back, now frustrated by her not even trying to understand his point of view on the situation.
"What? Whose fault is it then?" Sophia yelled back, crossing her arms with a challenging look on her face.
Chris didn't want to say it, but he had to. "It's your fault too. You don't love me, so you can't actually be mad at me for being with someone else."
Sophia's arms fell back to her side. "It hurts that you don't even really know me yet," she whispered again.
"What do you mean?"
"Iβ" Sophia couldn't bring herself to say it.
Chris clenched his fists. "This is exactly what I'm talking about. Like Iβ I wait by the door like I'm just a kid. I use my best colors for your portrait. I laid out the picnic for our first date with all the fancy shit. And I watched you tolerate it!!" He yelled over her.
Sophia's mouth hung open; she couldn't believe what he was saying. "How dare you!" she tried to argue but clearly he wasn't done.
He continued talking until he almost ran out of breath. "If it's all in my head, tell me now. Tell me I've got it wrong somehow, because I know that my love, it should be celebrated, but you only tolerate it."
"I only tolerate it?" Sophia asked, not knowing what to say. This was Chris she was yelling at. The boy who called her beautiful the first time they ever spoke. The boy all of her songs on the new album were about.
The boy who she had the perfect date with. The boy she shared the most magical kiss with.
The boy she'd hoped to be her boyfriend.
The boy she loved.
Loved.
Chris was the boy she loved.
She fastly turned back to meet his face. She looked him deep into his eyes before she spoke the words he'd desired to hear since he'd met her.
"I love you, Chris, so much. So, no. I don't tolerate your love. I reciprocate it" She whispered while holding deep eye contact with him.
His jaw fell open, and she knew he wanted to say something, but before he could, she continued rambling. "I love you so much that it's killing me seeing you with Mia." She didn't stop there. "Watch you guys kiss while I sit on the couch and wish to be in her place. You, you just- replaced me so easily." She said, more and more tears streaming down her face.
"I love you too, Soph. You know that." He said, trying to grab her hand, but she shook it off and walked to the door.
"How can you say that while you're with her?" She whispered, not even looking back at him. She opened the door, walked out, and slammed it shut again. She leaned back onto the door, slid down to the floor, and cried her heart out.
Chris, who was still shook about what he'd just found out, walked up to the door and pressed his forehead against it.
She was so close and yet so far away.
