Sophia's POV
Chris was leading me by my hand, up some very high hill. He kept looking back at me to see if I was following him. But how could I not when he was holding onto me as if I was going to fall with the first step I took?
I let out a heavy breath. My legs giving up on me. "Are you starting to get tired already, baby?" Chris said as he stopped in his tracks. I took the chance to put both my hands on his shoulders and lean into him.
He chuckled. "We're almost there, don't faint on me now, sweetheart," he said as he leaned down and placed a kiss on my hair. I gathered all the strength that was left in me and started walking ahead of him.
When I noticed that he wasn't walking, I tugged on his hand. I looked back after him to see the hottest smirk I've ever seen placed right on his lips. "What? Don't tell me you're the one who's tired now. Come on, Chris!" I told him while gesturing for him to follow me.
He shook his head, chuckling at me, but he started following me nonetheless. He took the lead again because he was the only one who knew the way. So I let him take me to wherever he wanted. Not once did I question our whereabouts.
Once we got to a clearing, Chris put his hands over my eyes. "CHRIS!" I yelled. "ARE YOU GOING TO PUSH ME OFF THE EDGE?" I asked him with a giggle and a never-leaving smile.
"No, of course not, Sophie. Just walk, don't you trust me?" He asked, and without too much thinking, I answered yes as if it was a reflex. He gripped my waist tighter at my answer.
"Okay, just two more steps and then you can stop," he said while we walked up to the edge. "Keep your eyes closed though," he added, and I nodded while I felt his hands leave my eyes. Like he told me, I didn't dare open my eyes.
I heard a shuffle behind me, and after some minutes, I felt his arms circle me from behind and his head nestled on my neck. His breath on my skin made me erupt in goosebumps. I shivered.
"Are you cold, baby?" I heard him ask me. I nodded slightly. I heard him rustle, and suddenly felt him put something on my shoulder.
Feeling grateful for his jacket, I answered, "Thank you," I whispered to him, and he didn't answer. Instead, he just planted a soft kiss on my neck.
"You can open your eyes now," he whispered in my ear, while not letting me go. I took a deep breath, and I counted to three in my head before opening my eyes and seeing one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen before.
I found myself overlooking the city. The skyline was a mix of buildings, some tall and sleek, others older with character. Lights flickered on in the windows as the day transitioned to night. Below, cars moved like tiny specks on the streets, and I could hear the distant sounds of a city winding down. It wasn't extravagant, but the simple beauty of the city lights against the darkening sky made it a view worth savoring.
"This is so beautiful, Chris," I said while I looked over the view, wondering how he had found this. "It is," I heard him whisper, but when I looked back at him, he wasn't looking at the view. He was looking at me.
I felt the blush rising to my cheeks while I turned my body to his direction completely. I put my arms around his shoulder and focused my gaze on his lips.
Feeling my eyes on him, he licked his lips, and leaned down slightly. Our noses and foreheads touching, while our lips were aching for each other. "You're so beautiful," he whispered again.
"You've said that a lot today," I whispered back.
"I mean it."
Glancing to my right, I spotted a picnic blanket spread on the ground, a basket resting at its edge. Surrounding it were flickering candles, casting a romantic glow and transforming our little spot into a cozy haven.
"Chris.." I whispered, looking back at him. I couldn't believe he'd done this. This is literally the perfect boy for me. He did this for me and me only.
"Don't say anything. I did this for you because I want this to happen. "He said while pointing between the both of us. "I want to be with you" He continued and my breath got stuck in my throat. I looked at him with starts in my eyes.
Before I could answer he took my hand and walked with me to the blanket. "Eat something, I packed all of your favorites" He told me while he dug through the basket. After a few seconds, he took out some sushi rolls.
I got so excited that I sat down immediately, taking the chopsticks that were sitting next to the basket. He gave me the sushi, and I started eating it.
He quickly sat across from me, pulling out his food. We ate quietly, exchanging glances, pondering how long it would be until the stars in the night sky became clearerβperhaps even turning into shooting stars.
After we both ate, we were laying on our backs, next to each other, looking at the sky, while we held hands. I looked at the stars, wondering if they were trying to tell me something. I felt like they were shining a lot more today.
Perhaps they were saying that this was right. Perhaps they were trying to blind me from the tragedies that were about to occur. I didn't know, and it that moment I didn't really care.
"There's no one else I'd rather be here with Soph" He told me and I looked over at him. He was already looking at me and at our intertwined hands. Neither daring to let go.
I nodded. "Me either Chris" I said while I gulped my worries down, but the reaction on Chris' face made it clear that he didn't really believe me.
He sat up a little, while inching closer to me. He put his fingers in my chin and turned my head to look at him. "Look at me and tell me what's bothering you" He asked me. His tone soft.
"It's nothing-"
"Please, don't lie to me baby. we don't lie" He told me while pointing his finger at me. And as if it was magic. I couldn't seem to tell him anything but the truth. "What happens now" I asked him.
He smiled. "Everything you want to happen" He simply said as if it was nothing. "Let's go back to the hotel, it's getting late" He stood up taking me with him by our intertwined hands.
LATER
Chris' POV
Me and Sophia got back to the hotel room. We were standing in front of her room. She had her back to the door and she was looking at me. So I leaned down, very close, then I reached over her to open the door to her room.
We were walking inside, but once the door was completely open I saw literally everyone sitting all over the room. I furrowed my eyebrows. What the fuck is going on?
Sasha didn't hesitate before walking up to Sophia and hugging her. Sophia hugged her back, but from where I was standing I could see how confused she was by that sudden hug.
"Hey bro?" Matt spoke up, while fiddling, shaking, trying to unlock his phone. "I think there's something you should see" He told me and I looked around the room, but everyone was avoiding eye contact with me. Instead they were looking at the girl to my left.
Matt came up to me giving me his phone. "What the fuck is this" I asked, and everyone shrugged their shoulders. When I saw the picture I thought that things couldn't get worse until Matt said something else. "I think you should check the comments" He said while gritting his teeth.
I scrolled a little lower, and they all started popping up. One by one, every single comment out of the nine hundred thousand comments under that post, were about people, my fans, hating on Sophia.
My jaw clenched. My fingers tightened around the phone. Being the supportive brother Matt is, he hugged me, but I couldn't find the strength in me to hug him back.
I could only think about Sophia. About what this would mean to her. About what this would mean to us. Because this was all my fault. I wanted to be selfish with her and look at where this got us.
Heartbreak after the first date.
Seeing my reaction, Sophia was now the worried one. She walked up to me trying to peek at what was being shown on Matts phone, but before she could see I turned it around.
She raised her eyebrows, and crossed her arms. "What is it" She asked with a look in her eyes that I could only identify as tell me now!. I shook my head frantically.
"It's nothing-" I wanted to answer her but her smile faded. "You told me that we don't lie between us" She said, using my words against me. Now she was the one pointing at me.
I looked at her with sadness in my eyes. "Trust me on this Soph. You don't want to see this" I said while I put my hand on her shoulder. She was fast to shrug it off and reach for the phone.
Because I was distracted, she got it without much difficulty. I saw her scrolling through the comments. I tried to take the phone back but she pulled it away.
I saw every word hit her. I saw it in her eyes. Them losing their shine, and a coat of fresh tears covering them. I saw all of it.
She gulped and let the phone slip from her hand. She was going to reach for it but I was faster. Already on my knees, taking the phone so that she couldn't get another look at the horrible comments people were leaving about her.
"Baby-" I wanted to touch her, but she only held her hand high to stop me from coming any closer. She walked over to her bed and sat on it. I walked after her, sitting on my knees next to the bed and grabbing her hand.
She kept looking blatantly at the wall in front of us, and there wasn't any reaction coming from her. I looked at my friends, and every one of the girls had tears streaming down their faces, while my brothers looked at me with empathy.
"Sophia, please-" I tried to get her to listen, but before I could ever utter a whole sentence she interrupted me. "Go" she whispered, and my jaw fell.
There was no way this was already happening. We went on one fucking date, and she was already telling me to go away. "I can help you" I told her while gripping her hand tighter but still, I got nothing from here.
"No. I want you to leave" She told me and I was ready to protest. I could do this all night. "Please Chris, if you really care about me, go" She said a little louder this time.
My heart broke. I let her hand fall onto the bed, making my way out of the door. Once I reached it, I looked back. Tears streaming down my face. I looked back at the door and walked out of the room, slamming the door behind me.
The whole night long, I could hear Sophia cry her heart and lungs out through the wall. Her friends whispering that everything was going to be okay.
But it wasn't.
Why would they do this to her?
Why would they do this to me?
Why would they do this to us?
