"Kiyoomi!" you called to the taller man. You were in front of a convenience store nearby, and he went out to get you.
Yes, yes, he did.
After school, you quickly went to the said convenience store to buy energy bars. Today was the day you could finally watch him, the guy you liked very much, practicing.
Speaking of him, he was now in front of you, practically looming. He didn't catch you when the bell signaling the end of classes because you dashed out right away. He texted you, and you said you were in the convenience store.
And that's why he went out of his way to get you.
"Sakura," he greeted.
"Kiyoomi," you smiled at the man, "you really didn't have to."
"But I did. Get over it."
You laughed a bit. "Yes, yes, you did."
"Let's go," he said and turned around. With no more seconds to waste, you two began to walk back to the school.
"Wouldn't you be late?" you asked.
"No, there's an hour interval between the end of classes and the start of practice."
"That's practical," you replied, "energy bar?" You offered him one.
"You bought how many energy bars?"
"13," you replied, "there's a sale and I know the owner of that store, I have a discount. I knew that kid who gave me the discount when she was still young. Oh, how time flies.""
He looked at you, "You sound like a middle aged lady," he bluntly comments to which you replied with a grin.
He accepted the bar and tucked it in his pockets.
You both started to talk to each other comfortably. A topic from the previous topic is made and it just seemed never ending. Not that any of you mind. You two were finally at that point where there's no pressure anymore to keep the conversation going, it just flows.
You both cherishes these simple times.
"So," you started, "do you..."
You thought you'd already mustered enough courage to ask him about that but turns out you still couldn't.
There was a rumor around the school that Sakusa Kiyoomi likes someone. Apparently, when Namiku Masaru asked Kiyoomi if he likes you, someone heard it. However, there was no name, and the one who heard didn't know who Masaru was. The rumour lacked details but it gathered attention nonetheless because it's Sakusa, the pretty germaphobe.
You heard of it, of course, and it bugged you all day long. Your insides twisted in an unruly way whenever you thought if Sakusa with someone else. And you really thought you'd gathered the courage to ask that yet here you are, still hesitant and stuttering to get the words out of your head and voice it out.
You're already entering the school gate and you still didn't ask him. You kept trying but keeps trailing off.
Truthfully, Sakusa was getting annoyed.
"What is it, Sakura?"
You heard the annoyance in his words and flinched. You sighed, you thought its 'now or never' because later on, you'd be surrounded by people and after that, you know you're going to think about it a lot.
"Do you like someone?"
Sakusa heard the rumours. But he really didn't think too much of it. A rumor is and will stay a rumor because he doesn't have any plans to acknowledge it.
When you asked him that, he saw an opening. A chance to confess. It was a bit of an uncommon setting and situation. But he doesn't want to wait anymore.
"Yeah, you."
Not having enough time to be rattled by the 'yeah' because of the 'you,' you hastily replied, "Me? Do I like someone? Y-"
"No," he cut you off as he stopped in his tracks, "I like you, Sakura." His eyes slowly slid down to meet your own shocked eyes.
Your brain suddenly stopped working. It felt like the calm before the storm. The silence that precedes disaster. This was far from a disaster, but you were really shaken.
The wind blew gently, like one of those movie-like scenes. You both were standing in the path leading to the gymnasiums behind the building of classrooms, so there weren't many students around. A thing you were glad because you suddenly lost strength in your knees.
Sakusa, as clichรฉ as it sounds, caught you.
He cursed under his breath. "Why the hell are you sweating, are you okay?"
"WHAT!?" you yelled. Sakusa was taken by surprise too.
"Calm down, will you?"
How can he ask you to calm down in this situation!?
You were sweating bullets, and you can't utter a single word again. His hands were around your waist as he helped you stand up straight.
"I'm good now, Kiyoomi, we're good, you're good, I'm good, we're good, and so uhm, you know uh-"
You were cut off again. This time, by his laughs.
"What was that, Sakura?" he said, still laughing.
You shook your head, trying to get a hold of yourself. His laughs were almost hypnotizing.
"I heard something in my head," you refused to believe he said what you thought he said.
Only, you didn't think it, it happened.
"Was it 'I like you, Sakura'?"
"Yes-" your eyes widened, "y-you do?"
"Yes."
"No. What? No."
"Yes."
"No."
"No matter how many times you say that, my response will be the same."
"Then, uhm," your eyes started to wander around. You looked and stared at anything else except him...
which pissed him off.
"Sakura," he spoke lowly and took hold of your shoulders, "look at me."
He leaned in closer, trying to get you to look at him.
"Sakura," he said in a more serious tone that you can't help but to do just that.
You looked straight into his dark eyes, curls of his hair were lightly being swayed by the wind.
He was gorgeous. And this gorgeous man is smiling at you.
Sure, he could be a tsundere often, but when he sees an opportunity, he'd take it. He's blunt and sometimes, too honest.
He wanted to be able to get jealous. He wants to be able to hold your hand and hug you and touch you and just having the right to be with you. He wants that so bad.
And so, when you asked him if he likes someone, why not just tell you that it's you?
"I like you."
Your pale face due to shock started to gain the color red as you processed it. Your brain finally starting to work and accept his words.
Processing that this is not a dream.
He likes you.
"Wow," you breathed out, "I can't believe this."
He let go of you and stood straight, putting his hands in his pocket. He looked casual, comfortable, but he was far, very very far from that. He hid his trembling hands and his heart was racing. His mind was getting louder, alerting beeps echoing.
It was almost as if this situation is dangerous.
You sighed and breathed deeply. Calming your track and field athlete of a heart.
"Sakusa Kiyoomi, I like you too."
He jumped up and down energetically in his mind.
He smiled at you. He was shocked but since your words eased his mind and heart, it made way for his happiness to shine through, overcoming surprise in the process.
"You do? You really do?"
You looked up at him and flashed a smile. "I do, Kiyoomi. I really do."
He was about to answer before an interruption happened.
