Yn leaned against the balcony railing, staring at the city lights.
The cool night breeze brushed against her skin, but it did little to soothe the frustration boiling inside her.
She didn’t want to be here.
And she definitely didn’t want to be standing next to Kim Taehyung, the man her parents were forcing into her life.
Taehyung stood beside her, hands shoved into his pockets.
He hadn’t spoken since they stepped onto the balcony, and frankly,
Yn wasn’t in the mood to start a conversation either.
“Let’s just say it and get this over with,” Taehyung finally muttered. “We both don’t want this, right?”
Yn scoffed. “Obviously.”
He exhaled sharply. “Then we’ll tell them our decision and end this nonsense.”
She turned to face him, arms crossed. “You think they’ll listen?”
Taehyung glanced at her. “They don’t have a choice.”
Yn let out a humorless laugh. “You think so? Taehyung, our parents aren’t asking. They’re telling us. Do you really believe they’ll just let us go?”
He didn’t respond. Instead, his jaw clenched, and she knew that, deep down, he understood.
Yn sighed. “Look, I don’t like this either. I don’t want to marry someone who told me to shut up the first time we met.”
Taehyung’s gaze flickered to her. “You were being annoying.”
“You were being insufferable.”
They stared at each other for a moment before he sighed, rubbing his temples. “Fine. Let’s tell them we’re not doing it.”
Yn nodded, but something told her it wouldn’t be that easy.
—
Back in the living room, their parents looked expectantly at them as they sat down.
“So?” Taehyung’s father asked.
Taehyung leaned forward. “We’ve talked, and we’ve both decided—we don’t want to do this.”
Yn’s mother sighed, shaking her head. “Kids, we understand that this is sudden, but you have to think about the bigger picture.”
Her father leaned in. “This isn’t just about marriage. It’s about business. This alliance will strengthen both families.”
Yn clenched her fists. “So that’s what this is about? A business deal?”
“It’s about securing your future,” her mother insisted.
Taehyung rubbed his temples. “And if we say no?”
His father’s expression was unreadable. “Then we all suffer the consequences.”
Yn felt trapped. There was no way out.
Taehyung exhaled heavily before looking at her. Their gazes met, and for the first time, they silently agreed on something. They had no choice.
“Fine,” he muttered.
Yn’s voice was barely above a whisper. “Fine.”
And just like that, their fate was sealed.
Yn sat on the edge of her bed, staring at nothing in particular.
The evening had drained her completely—first the disastrous meeting, then the forced discussion with Taehyung,
and now this unwanted engagement looming over her.
She still couldn’t believe it. She was going to marry a man who didn’t even like her.
A man who had made it clear that she was nothing but an inconvenience to him.
A knock at the door pulled her out of her thoughts. She frowned, wondering who it could be at this hour.
“Come in.”
The door creaked open, and to her surprise, it was Taehyung.
His face was unreadable as he stepped inside, closing the door behind him.
Yn raised an eyebrow. “Did our parents send you here to give me another lecture on business mergers?”
He shook his head. “No. I wanted to talk to you.”
She sighed, already tired of whatever this conversation was about. “About what?”
Taehyung leaned against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. “About this marriage.”
Yn tensed slightly but kept her expression neutral. “What about it?”
His gaze was cold, unreadable. “I just want to make one thing clear—don’t expect anything from me.”
Yn blinked. “Excuse me?”
“This marriage is just a deal for our families,” he said, his voice calm but firm. “I don’t plan on playing the role of a husband, and I don’t expect you to play the role of a wife. We’ll live our lives separately, and once enough time has passed, we’ll go our own ways.”
Something about his tone irked her, but she refused to let it show. Instead, she simply tilted her head. “Wow. You’ve really thought this through.”
Taehyung didn’t react. “I just don’t want you to get the wrong idea.”
Yn let out a dry chuckle. “Trust me, I wasn’t expecting anything from you anyway.”
There was a brief pause. He studied her for a moment, as if trying to gauge whether she was serious.
She met his gaze, unwavering. “Are you done?”
He nodded once. “Yeah.”
Without another word, Yn got up from the bed and walked past him, heading toward the door. She didn’t spare him another glance as she stepped out, closing it behind her.
She didn’t need to say anything.
She had understood everything loud and clear.
Yn let out a long sigh as she threw herself onto her bed, staring at the ceiling.
The entire day had been exhausting, and the weight of everything that had happened pressed heavily on her chest.
A forced marriage. A cold fiancé who wanted nothing to do with her. And a future she had absolutely no control over.
The moment she and her family had returned home, she had wasted no time in calling Yuna and Lisa. She needed to talk to someone who wasn’t part of this mess.
“So let me get this straight,” Yuna said, sitting on the floor with her arms crossed. “Not only did he tell you to shut up the first time he met you, but now he’s also telling you not to expect anything from this marriage?”
Yn sighed. “Yep.”
Lisa, who had arrived not long ago, frowned. “Wow. He really sounds like a catch.”
Yn rolled her eyes. “Tell me about it.”
Lisa leaned forward. “But honestly, what are you planning to do now?”
Yn shrugged. “Nothing. I’ll just live my life as usual and wait until this whole thing falls apart.”
Lisa shook her head. “Yn, I know this isn’t what you wanted, but maybe you should try putting in some effort.”
Yn sat up. “Effort? Lisa, he made it clear he doesn’t want anything to do with me. Why should I even bother?”
Lisa sighed. “I’m not saying you should throw yourself at him or force anything. I’m just saying—since you have no choice but to go through with this, why not at least try to make it bearable?”
Yuna nodded in agreement. “She has a point. You don’t have to fall in love with him, but at least try to make things less awkward.”
Yn groaned. “I hate that you both make sense.”
Lisa smirked. “That’s because we’re geniuses.”
Yn chuckled despite herself. Maybe Lisa was right. Maybe putting in a little effort wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
Even if it was just for the sake of her own sanity.
Yn groaned, leaning her head back against the headboard. She hated that Lisa and Yuna were making sense.
Maybe they were right—maybe she should at least try to make this marriage tolerable instead of letting it turn into a nightmare.
Lisa sat cross-legged on the bed, resting her chin in her palm as she observed Yn. “You know, you didn’t really answer my question.”
Yn frowned. “What question?”
Lisa smirked. “Do you like him?”
Yn immediately sat up straight. “What? No! Absolutely not.”
Yuna, who had been scrolling through her phone, suddenly looked up, her eyes narrowing mischievously. “Oh? Why do you sound so defensive?”
Yn scowled. “Because it’s a stupid question.”
Lisa leaned in closer. “Is it, though?”
Yn crossed her arms. “Yes! He’s rude, cold, and clearly doesn’t care about this marriage at all.”
Lisa tapped her chin thoughtfully. “And yet, here you are, blushing.”
Yn’s eyes widened. “I am not!”
Yuna gasped dramatically. “Oh my god, Lisa, she totally is!”
Lisa smirked. “I knew it. Our Ynnie has a tiny little crush.”
Yn groaned and buried her face in her hands. “I don’t! I swear, I don’t! Why would I like someone who doesn’t even acknowledge my existence properly?”
Yuna leaned against her, nudging her shoulder. “Maybe because he’s stupidly handsome?”
Lisa nodded. “And rich. Don’t forget rich.”
Yn shot them both a glare. “Seriously? That’s your reasoning?”
Yuna shrugged. “I mean, it’s a solid one.”
Lisa smirked. “But it’s not just that, is it? You blushed when I asked if you liked him.”
Yn groaned again, dramatically flopping onto her bed. “Can we please talk about something else?”
Lisa laughed. “You’re not denying it anymore.”
Yn grabbed a pillow and threw it at her. “I hate you.”
Yuna dodged another pillow and grinned. “We love you too, future Mrs. Kim.”
Yn gasped. “Don’t you dare call me that.”
Lisa wiggled her eyebrows. “Oh, but it’s going to be your name soon.”
Yn buried her face in the blankets, her ears burning.
She didn’t know what annoyed her more—the fact that they were teasing her, or the fact that she couldn’t deny what she was feeling.
Because, deep down, she wasn’t sure if she really hated the idea of Taehyung after all.
Yn lay on her bed, staring at the ceiling, her mind completely occupied by one very annoying person—Kim Taehyung.
She groaned and turned onto her side. “Ugh, why am I thinking about him?”
Yuna, who was sitting on the floor scrolling through her phone, snorted. “Because you like him.”
Yn shot up. “I do not!”
Yuna smirked. “Then why are you blushing just thinking about him?”
Yn grabbed a pillow and smacked her sister’s arm. “Shut up.”
Yuna laughed. “Oh, come on. You might as well admit it. The way you’re acting right now is giving major middle school crush vibes.”
Yn rolled her eyes. “It’s not a crush! I was just… thinking about something.”
Yuna raised an eyebrow. “Something? Or someone?”
Yn groaned. “Fine! I was thinking about how he looked earlier.”
Yuna’s interest piqued. “Oh? And what exactly did he look like?”
Yn hesitated before mumbling, “He… kinda blushed.”
Yuna’s jaw dropped. “No way.”
Yn nodded slowly. “Yep.”
Yuna burst into laughter. “Taehyung? Blushing? That cold, emotionless man? Are we talking about the same person?”
Yn pouted. “It wasn’t like that! He just—his ears turned red for a second.”
Yuna wiped fake tears from her eyes. “Oh my god. That’s it. He’s in love with you.”
Yn threw another pillow at her. “Stop being dramatic.”
Yuna giggled. “I mean, think about it. He was probably embarrassed. And if he was embarrassed, that means you affect him.”
Yn scoffed. “Or maybe he was just annoyed.”
Yuna shrugged. “Sure, keep telling yourself that.”
Yn crossed her arms. “Okay, fine. Maybe he is kinda cute sometimes.”
Yuna gasped. “Oh-ho! We’ve got progress, people! Someone write this down.”
Yn groaned. “Why did I even tell you? You’re the worst person to share this with.”
Yuna winked. “Hey, that’s what sisters are for.”
Yn flopped back down. “Whatever. I don’t even care anymore. I’m going to sleep.”
Yuna nodded. “Good idea. Maybe in your dreams, you’ll confess your love and get married on your own terms.”
Yn grabbed her last pillow and launched it at Yuna’s face.
Yuna just laughed. “Good night, Mrs. Kim.”
Yn groaned into her blanket. “I hate you.”
But deep down, she couldn’t stop smiling.
Taehyung sighed as he leaned back in his chair, rubbing his temples. The day had been exhausting, and the last thing he wanted to do was think about her.
But, of course, she was all he could think about.
With a frustrated groan, he pulled out his phone and called Jungkook.
“Yo, hyung, what’s up?” Jungkook’s voice came through, cheerful as always.
“I need to talk,” Taehyung muttered.
Jungkook chuckled. “This sounds serious. Did you finally realize I’m your favorite person in the world?”
Taehyung rolled his eyes. “Shut up and listen.”
“Okay, okay. What’s going on?”
Taehyung exhaled. “It’s about that girl.”
Jungkook gasped dramatically. “Oh? You mean your fiancée?”
Taehyung groaned. “Don’t call her that.”
Jungkook laughed. “What else should I call her? Your beloved future wife?”
Taehyung scowled. “She’s annoying.”
Jungkook hummed. “Mmm. And yet, here you are, calling me to talk about her.”
Taehyung ignored the comment. “She’s loud. She’s reckless. She doesn’t take anything seriously.”
“Sounds fun,” Jungkook teased.
“She’s not fun.”
“Then why does she bother you so much?”
Taehyung hesitated. “Because… because she just does.”
Jungkook snickered. “Hyung, that’s not a real answer.”
Taehyung ran a hand through his hair. “She doesn’t listen. She keeps making jokes even when I tell her to stop. And worst of all, she keeps acting like this whole thing is just a game.”
Jungkook hummed. “Sounds like someone else I know.”
Taehyung frowned. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Hyung, you can’t tell me she’s the only one treating this like a joke when you literally told her not to expect anything from this marriage.”
Taehyung stayed silent.
Jungkook continued. “So, let me get this straight. You told her you don’t want anything from this marriage. She didn’t argue. And now you’re mad because she’s acting like she doesn’t care?”
Taehyung scowled. “I didn’t say I was mad.”
Jungkook grinned. “But you are talking about her.”
Taehyung groaned. “That’s because she won’t leave my mind! She’s everywhere. I can’t stop thinking about her stupid jokes, her annoying laugh, and the way she just—”
Jungkook cut him off. “Hyung, I hate to break it to you, but it sounds like you’re obsessed.”
Taehyung froze. “I am not obsessed.”
Jungkook snorted. “Really? Because it sure sounds like you’re thinking about her a lot.”
Taehyung scowled. “Only because she’s irritating.”
Jungkook hummed. “Sure, sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night.”
Taehyung exhaled sharply. “I called you for advice, not to be mocked.”
Jungkook chuckled. “And my advice is—stop lying to yourself. If she was just annoying, you wouldn’t be this worked up.”
Taehyung opened his mouth to argue but stopped.
Jungkook grinned. “See? Even you know I’m right.”
Taehyung groaned. “I hate you.”
Jungkook laughed. “I love you too, hyung. Now, tell me more about your beloved fiancée.”
Taehyung hung up the call.
But even as he sat there in silence, Jungkook’s words lingered in his mind.
Yn stared at her phone screen, biting her lip. She had Taehyung’s number. His mom had given it to her earlier, saying, “You two should at least talk, dear.”
She hadn’t planned on using it.
But now, lying awake and unable to stop thinking about him, the temptation was too strong.
A mischievous grin spread across her face. If she was going to text him, she might as well have fun with it.
She quickly typed a message.
— Unknown: Sir, your food delivery is here. Please come outside and pay.
A few minutes passed, and just when she thought he wouldn’t reply, her phone buzzed.
— Taehyung: Who is this?
Yn giggled and sent another message.
— Unknown: Your worst nightmare.
— Taehyung: Block me.
Yn gasped dramatically.
— Unknown: Wow. That’s rude. Is this how you treat your loving fiancée?
— Taehyung: Oh, it’s you. Makes sense now.
Yn smirked.
— Yn: Did you miss me?
— Taehyung: No.
— Yn: Liar.
Taehyung didn’t respond immediately, so she decided to up the chaos.
— Yn: I have a question. Very important.
— Taehyung: What?
— Yn: Do you like pineapple on pizza?
— Taehyung: Are you texting me at midnight for this?
— Yn: It’s urgent.
— Taehyung: No. It’s disgusting.
Yn gasped.
— Yn: Oh my god. I can’t marry you anymore.
— Taehyung: I’ll send the divorce papers first thing in the morning.
Yn laughed out loud.
— Yn: Wow. You’re so eager to leave me?
— Taehyung: Yes.
Yn rolled her eyes. It was time to make him suffer a little more.
— Yn: Do you know what else is disgusting?
— Taehyung: What?
— Yn: The fact that you haven’t complimented me today. My feelings are hurt.
— Taehyung: …
— Yn: Say something nice to me, Taehyung.
— Taehyung: No.
— Yn: Then I’ll cry.
— Taehyung: Good.
Yn grinned.
— Yn: So heartless. I think I like that about you.
— Taehyung: Leave me alone.
Yn hummed, staring at the screen. Taehyung was trying so hard to be distant, but he was replying. He could have ignored her, but he didn’t.
That was interesting.
Feeling bolder, she decided to push him further.
— Yn: You know… it’s kind of hot when you’re mean.
This time, Taehyung didn’t reply immediately.
Yn smirked, waiting.
A full minute passed before her phone buzzed.
— Taehyung: What is wrong with you?
Yn burst out laughing.
— Yn: A lot, actually.
— Taehyung: I figured.
— Yn: You must like me a little if you’re still texting me.
— Taehyung: Or I’m just too tired to block you.
— Yn: Aw, so you don’t want to block me? How sweet.
— Taehyung: Go to sleep, Yn.
Yn smirked.
— Yn: Only if you tell me goodnight in a cute way.
— Taehyung: No.
— Yn: Please?
— Taehyung: Fine. Goodnight.
— Yn: That was so dry. Say it properly.
— Taehyung: Good. Night.
— Yn: No emoji? No affection? No “sleep well, my dear fiancée”??
— Taehyung: Block me.
Yn cackled.
— Yn: Sweet dreams, Taehyung. Don’t dream about me too much.
She waited, but there was no reply.
Yn grinned. Maybe this marriage wouldn’t be so boring after all.
