I will be writing something about Marv to celebrate my birthday.
Summary: My friend asks me to join him for an interview with Daniel Stern
Words: 1.9k words
I've seen his new movie about a million times already. Although the movie was supposed to be around Christmas, I still loved watching it even after Christmas. Soon enough I found myself developing a crush on the actor, and my best friend sure did notice it. My friend Jason's job was basically to interview celebrities. I always was interested in careers like those, but deep down knew something like that was impossible for someone like me. So I just went with playing guitar. But that was until one day, Jason's friend who usually joined him in interviews, was too sick to show up. So he thought that it would be a wonderful idea to come and ask me to join him. He never even mentioned who it was at first before it was too late to change my mind. Jason had randomly called me very late at night, and since I was half asleep, I agreed to everything he said without even realizing what I was getting myself into. The next morning I got a phone call from Jason. "Hey, are you ready? We still got a couple hours." He said, "Couple hours?" A confused expression appeared on my face at his words. "You forgot what you agreed to last night, didn't you?" Jason sighed, "Yeah-" I leaned against the wall as I spoke. "Well, you said you'd take my friend's place in the interview I was doing today." He responded. Then the memories from last night came flooding back. "Ohhh, right." I mentally hit myself for forgetting something so important. "Who is it?" I yawned, "I'll leave that for you to find out." Jason teased, "Oh no-" I groaned while listening to Jason laugh on the other end of the landline. "Alright, just be ready in 3 hours." Then he hung up within seconds.
I grabbed some clothes and took a shower, did my makeup, then made sure to at least get some breakfast. I wanted to make sure to dress nicely since I would be interviewing a celebrity and I wanted to make a good first impression. A car horn sounded from outside my house, causing me to immediately grab my bag off the kitchen counter and rush outside. I fumbled with my house keys until I knew I locked up my house. Jason was waiting impatiently in the front seat of his car while I rushed down my driveway and plopped into the passenger seat. "Now, you better tell me what I'm getting myself into." I buckled up, "Nah, it's a surprise." Jason drove off of my street. "Jeez, and you know I'm already bad at talking to people." I leaned my head against the headrest. "You'll find out who it is soon enough." Jason laughed. A nervous feeling started building up in my stomach at the very thought of who this celebrity could possibly be. Let alone a famous person in general was enough to make my anxiety kick in. I could practically feel my heart beating when Jason pulled into the parking lot and parked his car. "Come on Modesta, you got this." Jason said as I opened the door and stepped outside. "No I don't." I threw my bag over my shoulder, "You're putting yourself down." Jason walked towards the entrance while I slowly followed behind him. I gripped tightly onto the strap of my bag once we started towards a desk with some lady standing behind it. "Hey, we're here to interview Daniel Stern." Jason said to the lady. My eyes widened and I quickly tried making a run for it towards the doors, but my arm was immediately grabbed by Jason. "Go on ahead." She nodded her head while Jason dragged me along with him. "No, no, please don't make me do this." I dug my feet into the carpet, "I thought you liked him." He laughed, "I do! But I get nervous around people I like, and I'm gonna make a bad first impression!" I tried freeing his hand from my arm, but failed.
I watched in horror as his hand grabbed the door knob. "You'll be fine. I'll do all the talking, unless you think you can handle it." Jason laughed while he pushed the door open. Inside I could see Daniel out of the corner of my eye, so my immediate response was to just stop walking. Jason noticed me not budging when he was yanked backwards. "Modesta, come on-" He sighed in annoyance. "I'm so sorry about this." Jason peeked into the room and looked at Daniel, "Oh, no worries." I heard him respond. "You're worried about making a bad first impression, but here you are already making a scene." Jason pulled on my arm, but I still wouldn't budge. "I can help if you'd like." Daniel said from inside the room. "If you can try." Jason responded. Once I heard Daniel get up from his seat, I immediately tried backing away, but was stopped by Jason who was still holding onto my arm. Then there he was; standing in the doorway, looking as beautiful as he did in all of his movies. "You're making it worse, Modesta." Jason rolled his eyes. "I, uhm, uhhh-" I fumbled with my words as I stated up at Daniel. "Am I that intimidating?" Daniel laughed lightly, "No, she's just socially awkward." Jason answered. "Come on, I won't bite." Daniel smiled while looking down at me. I took a deep breath and walked forward into the room where I was soon followed by Daniel and Jason. "See? Was that so hard?" Jason elbowed my waist, "Shut up-" I somewhat whispered. During the interview I found myself starting to zone out just thinking about Daniel, and also hating myself for creating such a scene earlier. I was worried about making a bad first impression but I already made it worse just by doing that. Because I was too busy thinking, I didn't even realize that Daniel was also looking at me while answering Jason's questions. Me on the other hand, I was very blankly staring at the wall across from me as I was thinking. Jason probably seemed to notice the behavior from not only me, but Daniel as well. "Modesta." Jason grabbed my arm and shook me lightly, "Huh?" I quickly looked in his direction, "Everything alright?" He looked into my eyes as he spoke. "Oh, uh yeah." I smiled nervously. "You know you didn't have to agree to go if you didn't want to." Jason said, "No, no, no-" I stopped. The words seemed stuck in my throat just because Daniel was looking at me. "Do you need water? There's a vending machine over by the bathroom." Daniel spoke up, "Oh, yeah, sure-" I quickly stood up and rushed out the room before I could make things even more awkward.
I walked into the restroom and just stared at myself in the mirror. "Thanks for ruining everything, Modesta." I groaned before leaving the bathroom. Then I reached into my pocket for cash and got a soda from the vending machine. I took a deep breath before then opening the door and walking back inside. Out of the corner of my eye I could see Daniel's eyes following me everywhere I walked. A couple minutes later, one of the worst things that could possibly happen happened; Jason excused himself to the bathroom, leaving me in a room alone with my celebrity crush. How worse could things possibly get. I already ruined my first impression and I was getting a second opportunity to ruin everything again. The whole atmosphere changed once Jason closed the door and left. I looked at everything except Daniel, and tried my absolute hardest to not look so awkward. "So." I heard him say, "Big fan of Home Alone?" He asked. I forced the words out, "Y-Yeah." I coughed out. I rubbed my arm nervously while biting my lip. "I'm sorry if I'm making you nervous." Daniel said, "No, it's alright-" I finally looked up to see him staring at me with those beautiful blue eyes. "You don't have to be nervous, you know, I'm not gonna judge you." He spoke up again. My response was to just slowly nod before looking down back at my lap again. The door swung up and Jason returned, seeming to notice that it looked as if me and Daniel were talking. "Okay, back to the interview." Jason sat down and picked up his notebook from earlier.
Before I could leave the interview room after Jason, I was stopped by Daniel. "Hey." I turned around to face him, "Yeah?" My legs started trembling. "Can I talk to you for a moment? In, uh, private." Daniel looked towards Jason as he spoke. Jason's response was to shrug and walk off. "Sorry, it's just that." He cleared his throat before awkwardly looking around the room. "What?" I looked up at him, "I'm so sorry- you're like, really beautiful." He said. I stopped at what he said; my celebrity crush thinks I'm beautiful? This has to be a dream. He noticed that I was just staring without even saying anything. "I'm sorry if I'm making things awkward. I didn't mean to waste your time." Daniel was about to leave the room when I stopped him. "No, wait." I finally spoke up loud enough for someone to actually hear me. Daniel stopped in his tracks and turned towards me at the sound of my voice. "What? You're finally speaking up?" A small smile appeared on his face, "There's, uh-" I tried finishing my sentence, but failed due to the amount of embarrassment I was feeling. "What is it?" He asked, "I like you too, though." I answered as my eyes immediately met the ground. "Aww, you do?" I heard his footsteps creaking towards me on the hardwood floor. "Y-Yeah." I cleared my throat. Even when I saw his shoes inches away from mine, I still refused to look up. "I'd really enjoy it if you weren't looking down." He spoke up. My response was to slowly look up at his towering height. "Let Jason know that if he ever interviews me again, he should definitely bring you a long next time." He smiled, "I, uhh, yeah, sure-" I smiled awkwardly. "Good talk." Daniel said before stepping aside to let me by. Once I was out of sight, my face was a deep crimson color, enough for Jason to notice once I met up with him at the car. I didn't say a single word to him until he stopped at the driveway at my house. "Oh, uhm." My hand met the door handle, "Yeah?" A click sounded just as Jason unlocked the passenger door. "Daniel said if you ever interviewed him again, he wanted me to come again." I answered. A shock expression showed up across his face at my words. "What? I'm not joking." I laughed nervously, "Okay, you know what? I'll try to get another interview with him as soon as possible." Jason nodded. I smiled until my face hurt at his words. I climbed out the passenger seat and stepped inside my house without the smile ever leaving my face for a second.
