Summary: Me and Marv become friends but it soon changes to lovers after one small event

Words: 1.8k words

We first met after I was walking home from the store. He was also leaving the store as well, and we just so happened to bump into each other. But I'm sure that my decision of walking to the store that day was one of the greatest decisions I've ever made in my entire life. Because I can't explain how much Marv had changed my life, even if he was just some robber who was 10 years older than me. We still had such a great friendship, and I was desperate to have friends anyway. So I'd either sneak out or make excuses about needing to grab a few things from the store just so I could hang out with him. I never really thought it would get more serious than that, until something happened that made me finally realize I had feelings for my best friend. That was when Christmas prom at school was coming up, and one of the most popular kids at school decided to ask me just to humiliate me. Although I had trust issues from previous experiences, I decided to take the chance and agree to go. I didn't know how much Marv wasn't going to like this decision. I first explained to him the whole thing when I was walking home from school one day.

Marv appeared beside me, almost giving me a heart attack from his sudden appearance. "Jeez, you scared me." I laughed as I looked up at his tall frame, "Wasn't trying to." Marv also laughed. He must've noticed the huge smile spread out across my face, something he rarely ever sees. "What happened? You look happy." He stuffed his hands into his pocket, "Well, Christmas prom is tomorrow. Usually I don't get excited for these kinds of things, but-" I shrugged. "Why are you excited?" Marv asked me, "Because someone actually asked me out." I didn't realize how much my words broke Marv's heart until much later. "Oh." He muttered out, "You okay?" I asked him, "Yeah." He weakly smiled down at me as a response. I shrugged it off and continued to talk to him about my whole plan for the prom, not realizing that I was slowly breaking his heart in half at every single word that left my mouth. Soon I finally reached home, except I could tell that there was something wrong with Marv. He didn't seem as happy and funny as he usually was, and it hurt my head trying to figure out what I did wrong. But Marv didn't even say goodbye like he usually does, almost making me tear up. Something that concerned me even more is that when the next afternoon came, Marv was nowhere in sight. Usually he'd be waiting near the school around the time school was dismissed. Tears pricked at my eyes as I frantically looked around for Marv, except he was nowhere to be seen. "He might just be busy." I told myself before continuing my walk home. Around the time the prom was supposed to start, I completely forgot about the whole incident with Marv, as I was far too excited. Dad had dropped me off at the high school gym around 6 pm. I was super excited to go to prom for the first time, but at the same time I was really worried about Marv. Because I haven't heard or seen him since yesterday afternoon, he didn't even come over at night like he usually does.

I stumbled inside the loud crowded gym. Accidentally bumping into a few people since there was too much on my mind to even focus on reality. I approached the bleachers and just sat down and thought deeply about what I could've done that had upset Marv so bad. "Modesta." Someone called out to me, causing me to look up and see the person that asked me out. "Oh, sorry." I muttered to myself, "No." He said to me just as I stood up, backing away as I walked towards him. "What do you mean?" I stopped, "Do you really think I'd actually ask you out?" He laughed at me while I stood motionless. "No, why don't you hangout with your 30 year old friend instead? How can you really be that lonely?" He laughed in my face while some of his friends came over. All his friends had dates, even my "date" had some other girl with him instead. "I-" I stopped while I stood there. "She can't even talk." One of his friends spoke up as everyone else proceeded to laugh in my face. I grabbed my jacket off the bleachers and ran out the door and into the cold midnight air of December. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I ran through the dark neighborhood. I wish I could be with Marv right now to have someone to comfort me, except I haven't seen him all day. "Fuck this shit, fuck my life." I said between tears. Within minutes rain came pouring down on me and I was completely soaked in seconds. Not only am I walking home in the dark freezing rain, but Marv is still upset with me for God knows what. I missed him, I needed someone to comfort me, I needed him. Suddenly I stopped in my tracks from what I just said; what did I mean by needing him? Then it hit me. I was in love with him. My eyes widened at the realization, now I knew I had to find him before I ended up hurting myself. Car headlights shined brightly behind me, followed by the sound of a car door slamming closed. "Modesta!? What the hell are you doing out here!?" I heard Marv's voice before I turned around to see the very concerned looking Marv. I ran over to him and immediately hugged him, crying into his chest.

I could tell that he tensed up once my arms wrapped themselves around his lower waist. "Oh my God, you're a mess." I heard him say as he returned the embrace. "You don't have to remind me." I said as I hugged him even tighter. "I thought you were at prom." He spoke up, "Can we go into the van and I'll tell you?" I asked as shivers ran down my spine from the freezing temperature. I was wearing a dress without any kind of pants, so my legs were wet and trembling. "Of course." He kept an arm around my waist while walking me towards the passenger door of his van. He helped me inside and climbed into the driver's seat. "Well." I cleared my throat just as Marv started driving, "Yeah?" Marv looked at me from the mirror. "You know that guy I was talking about who asked me out to prom?" I glanced at Marv and watched as raindrops trickled down his handsome face, making me forget what I was about to say because of the majestic sight before my eyes. "Mhm." He hummed in response, but I didn't respond. I was in complete awe of his beauty. "Modesta?" He glanced towards me for a second before looking back ahead at the road. "Right, yeah-" I cleared my throat. "I found out he asked me out as a prank, so you could guess I was humiliated." A tear rolled down my cheek at the embarrassing memory. "Oh, I'm gonna make sure me and Harry rob his house next time." Marv responded. A slight smile broke out onto my face for the first time tonight. "But why did you agree to go if you knew he was going to do something like that?" Marv asked me, "Because it would help me forget my feelings." I watched the raindrops race down the windshield as I spoke. "What feelings?" He sounded confused. At this exact moment, I knew it was time to tell him the truth... It's now or never. "My feelings for you." I blurted out. Marv's response was to slam on the brakes, immediately looking at me with a shocked expression on his face. "You're joking." He said, I just shook my head no as a response. A very happy smile that I've never seen Marv do before appeared on his face at my words. His smile practically made my heart melt. "Oh my God." He scooted towards me and hugged me very tightly. "I'll assume that you like me back." I giggled into his chest, "Of course I do." Marv answered.

After a long silence together, I realized that Marv had already managed to stop directly in front of my house. The rain had already died down to just a sprinkle. The lights inside the house were turned on, which probably meant that someone had seen the van parked outside. "I gotta go now." I smiled into his chest, "Just a little longer." He mumbled while pulling me tighter against his chest. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw someone step outside the front door. "Marv, someone is coming-" He stopped me mid sentence, "Shush gorgeous." His fingers ran through my damp hair. My face became hot after the nickname he said. A knock sounded at the driver side window, followed by Marv groaning in annoyance before turning to whoever caused the sudden commotion. Shit, it was my Dad. I tried to stop Marv from rolling down the window, but it was too late, Dad already saw me sitting in the passenger seat. "Yeah?" Marv asked. "Modesta, is that you?" Dad leaned over, "Uhm... no?" I smiled nervously. Marv looked over at me and then back at my Dad, now realizing that he fucked everything up. "I can explain." I simply said. But instead of having that angry disappointed look whenever I did something wrong, he just smiled. "Say goodbye to your boyfriend and come inside, it's late." Dad said before turning back around and going back inside. I looked towards Marv with a shocked face while he did the same.

Marv followed me while I walked to the front door. "You didn't have to walk to the door, it wasn't that far." I giggled as I glanced up at him, "If it means I get to be with you a little longer, then it's definitely necessary." He simply answered. "Come here." I grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him down to my level, proceeding to press my lips against his. I could tell he was shocked by the way his body tensed up. "Thank you." He sounded dazed, "You're welcome." I smiled until my face hurt. "Goodnight, I love you." I gave his cheek a small kiss, "I love you too." Marv responded right before I closed the front door. I walked upstairs to my room in the attic, the smile never leaving my face. I didn't even bother to shower, I was far too tired from today's events. So instead I just climbed into bed after changing out of my wet clothes. But that night I dreamt about Marv, and how amazing our relationship was going to be.
