Summary: Harry and Marv try to rob our house, but I end up betraying my brother
Words: 1.6k words
It was after our entire family left without us to go to Paris for Christmas. I knew it wasn't on purpose, since they were probably in a hurry and forgot about us. Kevin didn't mind because he was pissed off at the whole family after last night's incidents. I thought it would be fun to decorate for Christmas while being as loud as possible with my little brother. But it actually ended up being quite the opposite. And I was the first one to notice a van being parked dangerously close to our house all the time, becoming very suspicious that someone planned on robbing our house. It was as enjoyable being home alone knowing that there were creeps outside watching our every move. Especially after Kevin returned from the store telling me that those same people chased him home after almost running him over. So I was determined to try and catch these creeps, if I was ever able to see them. They would only stay inside that damn van, just watching us. It was really creeping me out.
That was until me and Kevin were in the kitchen doing some daily chores. I was the first one to notice the shadow of a person displaying against the back door window. Kevin immediately stopped washing the dishes and looked towards the back door with a terrified face. Whoever this person was, they stuck their foot through the dog door. I watched as their shoe fell off and they quickly reached into the dog door and grabbed their shoe. Kevin slowly looked towards me and motioned towards the TV. I nodded and put a VHS tape into the TV and turned it on. 'Angels with Filthy Souls' came on while Kevin very quietly moved the chair aside. He grabbed a pot and put it right in front of the dog door, then grabbed some firecrackers and let them up before hiding somewhere with me. Both of us covered our ears while the firecrackers went off, scaring off whoever was at the door a moment ago. I died of laughter and high-fived Kevin at our successful plan of scaring them off. Even after that whole incident, these robbers still wouldn't leave us alone. So I knew we had to work much harder to keep our house safe. Because directly at midnight, both of them returned to our house. They came knocking at the back door a minute later. "We know your in there, and we know your alone." Someone with a New York accent called out, "I hope you know his sister is here." I spoke up as I stood next to Kevin. "You told me he was alone!" Another voice said, "I did! I never even knew she was here till now." The other voice said. I looked towards Kevin with a smile while he did the same. He grabbed Buzz's bebe gun and stuck it right outside the dog door, soon followed by one of them cursing and groaning in pain while the other sounded confused. Kevin laughed as I joined along with him. The dog door slowly lifted up and someone stuck their head through the door while Kevin sat with Buzz's bebe gun facing directly at the dog door. But it was the person's face that really got me; he had curly hair, facial hair, and the most beautiful set of blue eyes I had ever seen. This unknown person flashed a smile at Kevin, but was immediately shot in the face with the bebe gun. I felt kind of upset that I didn't get to look at his face longer. He dunked back and started groaning in pain.
I was standing there shocked from the handsome stranger. "Modesta?" Kevin walked up to me, "Oh, uh, yeah?" I snapped back into reality, "You alright?" He asked me, I just slowly nodded and smiled. "Mhm." I responded, "Good, because I want you to check the basement to see which one goes in there." Kevin disappeared out of the kitchen. "Yeah, right-" I walked towards the basement and peeked into the dark room. There was a shadow of a person in the reflection of the basement door, who immediately ducked down as soon as I turned on the basement light. "Hello?" I stepped on the first step leading to the basement. All my attention quickly shifted to the stairs, feeling the fabric of my socks sticking to the stairs. "What...?" I tried lifting up my feet, but it was almost like they were glued to the stairs. "Damnit." I took off my socks and continued walking down the steps. Suddenly the basement door creaked open and the same guy I saw earlier appeared in the doorway. "Hey-" I stepped onto the next step, but felt an agonizing pain shot through my foot. The person from earlier stared up at me as he watched the painful expression on my face. "Uhm, are you okay?" He slowly asked. I was in too much pain to even reply. "Fucking-" I ended up stumbling down the stairs due to the amount of pain I was in. As soon as I was finished wincing in pain, I opened my eyes to see the same guy from earlier looking down at me. "Don't walk up those stairs." I said in between breaths as my blood started leaking out onto the basement floor. "Why? What happened?" He kneeled down next to me, "My brother put hot tar on the steps, plus a nail I just stepped on with my bare foot." I spoke as I tried preventing my blood from creating a puddle onto the floor, but the blood just leaked into the palm of my hand. "You're losing a lot of blood." I heard him say. Soon my vision started to become blurry, and seconds later everything went black.
I sat up in my bed to the sound of people shouting upstairs. As soon as I threw off my covers, I saw my foot bandaged up. I shrugged it off and limped my way out of my room to where I saw both the robbers going after Kevin. Kevin grabbed Buzz's spider, and put it on the curly-headed guy's face. He screamed and threw the spider across the room, causing the furry spider to land directly beside my foot. I froze in complete fear as my eyes were glued to every action. The robber stood up and noticed the spider beside my foot. It climbed onto my bare foot, causing me to scream and kick my leg, making the spider fall down the stairs. I slammed against the nearest wall, slumping down onto the floor from the agonizing pain in my foot. He ran over to me instead of helping his friend go after my brother. "Marv? What the hell are you doing?" I heard one of them ask. He kneeled down in front of me, "Are you okay?" He looked into my eyes, "A spider just climbed on me, does it look like I'm okay?" I asked. Marv was about to reply when the other guy spoke up, "Marv, we have to get Kevin!" He pointed towards the attic. Marv looked back at me groaning and in pain and then back at his angry friend. "Don't go after him." I breathed out, catching the attention of both of the robbers, "Why not?" The shorter one asked while walking over to me. "Because he's just going to call the police on you." I finally opened my eyes. The shorter one looked towards Marv before then glancing back at me. "You see, Kevin expects you to go after him. That's why he set up more traps." I answered. Both of them seemed interested in what I was saying.
"What do you think, Harry?" Marv asked him, "She is right." Harry thought. I knew Kevin was going to hate me after I helped the robbers, but I was still mad at him for not even warning me about the traps he put on the basement stairs. "You know what? Grab what you can Marv, turn the water on or something and we'll get out of here." Harry said. A large smile appeared on his face at Harry's words. He then helped me up and started going through the entire house, taking as much as he possibly could. I was in the kitchen, preparing to flood my own home. My eyes glanced down at the towels that were stuffed into the drains of the sink. "He deserves it, this whole family does." I turned on the sink and immediately met with Marv at the back door who helped me to their van parked across the street. I watched as Kevin looked around confused, as well as our creepy old neighbor who was with him. I looked towards Marv and Harry and watched as they celebrated their victory on robbing one of the biggest houses in the neighborhood. All these thoughts were beginning to make me feel bad, but all that changed when Harry turned on the radio and one of my favorite songs came on. '(I Just) Died In Your Arms by Cutting Crew' my eyes widened once I heard the familiar song. "You like this song?" Marv turned up the radio, "Yeah." I smiled while leaning back in the cushioned seats. After that one Christmas, I never returned home ever again, feeling much more happy and free living the life of robbers with Harry and Marv. Soon having the great opportunity of being able to be called one of the wet bandits.
