ELLIE HELD HER hand out in front of her, her shield blocking her from the lasers being fired at her. When the ship finally got close to her, she flew above it. She flipped over and landed on top of the ship, gripping its curved edge to stay on. She placed her palm against the surface and surged electricity into the pod. The ship short-circuited and ceased firing before turning off completely. Ellie let go of the ship as it started to fall to the surface. Before the ship hit the ground, it collided with another ship, causing both of them to explode.

"El?" She heard Peter shout. "Got any tape?"

"No! Why would I have tape?" She replied, her brows creasing in annoyance. "Go ask Rocket."

"I'm asking for Rocket!" He shouted back at her over the noise of the battle.

"What the hell does he need tape for?"

"I don't know, I'm just the messenger."

"You asking for tape?" Blake asked as he flew over next to Ellie.

"Yeah, you got some," Peter asked hopefully.

"No,"

"Neither of you are helpful!" Peter raged.

"I can practically see your forehead vein about to pop from behind your mask," Ellie told Peter as she gestured around his face.

Peter grumbled turning away from the teenagers. "I hate children!"

"Love you too Petie!" Blake yelled back before going back to the fight.

"Rear thrusters are out again! We're done for without that generator!" Eli heard Yondu say through the coms.

"On my way," Ellie replied, flying quickly to the ship, Peter following after her. She landed on her feet and climbed the ladder up to Yondu and Nebula. Ellie pulled on a couple of wires as Nebula opened a section in her arm for access. Ellie handed the wires to Nebula for her to connect them.

"This is gonna hurt like hell, just please don't kill me for it," Ellie warned her.

"Promises, promises." Nebula teased. Ellie rolled her eyes and nodded at Yondu for the go-ahead to turn everything on. Ellie took off the cloth around her hand, pushed it into her jacket pocket, and placed her palms against Nebula's shoulders.

"Guardians..." The voice of the high priestess's voice rang out from one of the gold pods. "-perhaps it will provide you solace that your death is not without purpose. They will serve as a warning to all of those tempted with betraying us. Don't screw with the Sovereign."

All the pods started shooting at their ship, Ellie's grip tightening on Nebula to keep her balance. Yondu kicked on the switch, pulling the electricity from Ellie and Nebula. Ellie grunted from the force, all of her hair sticking straight up, while Nebula screamed in pain.

Ellie would be lying if she said that the surging pain into Nebula didn't make her smile a little bit.

All the power coming from Ellie and Nebula charged the generator, their ship's red laser beams shooting in all directions to destroy the pods.

"Could you stop screaming!" Ellie yelled at Nebula as all the Sovereign pods blasted to bits.

"We're gonna blow!" Peter yelled. "Ellie!"

Ellie let go of Nebula and jumped down to Peter who quickly tried to grab ahold of her hand before the ship exploded.

Blake's eyes widened as he watched the ship blow up, knowing Ellie was still in it. "No!"

Nebula landed on the ground, her face holding no expression as she looked up. Yondu, holding onto his red arrow, and Peter, holding Ellie bridal style in his arms.

"This is embarrassing," Ellie grumbled as she tightened her hold around Peter's neck. The blasters on the back of her pack had been blown off from the blast, keeping her from being able to fly on her own.

Peter rolled his eyes before looking up at Yondu and laughing.

"What?" Yondu asked, almost offended.

"You look like Mary Poppins," Peter told him.

"Who's that?" Ellie asked.

"Is he cool?" Yondu asked.

"Hell, yeah, he's cool."

"I'm Mary Poppins, y'all!"

Peter set Ellie down whilst they landed next to Mantis and Nebula.

"Are you okay?" Blake asked Ellie, running over to them.

"Wow, brother. I'm great. I'm so glad for your concern."

Blake paid no mind to Peter as he put his hands on Ellie's cheeks, brushing hair away that stuck to her face.

"I'm fine, I'm fine." She repeated to him whilst Blake scanned her for any further injuries.

Blake gestured to her forehead and hands "You're bleeding,"

Ellie smiled at him. "Look, it's cute that you're so worried about lil' old me," She lightly tapped the metal cheek of his mask with her hand. "-but seriously star-boy, I'm fine."

Blake sighed with a content smile, straightening his back. Ellie looked around them as explosions of the Sovereign pods. Everyone gathered together as they waited for the explosions to cease, watching for any more attacks.

Suddenly, a large piece of hot rock debris hit Mantis, causing her to crash to the ground.

"Oh, shit!" Ellie yelped, covering her mouth in shock.

"Mantis, look out!" Drax shouted, far too late for the warning.

"Wow Drax, you almost warned her in time," Blake commented. Drax nodded back at him with a proud nod, to which the teenage boy responded with an eye roll.

The nerve Mantis was controlling in the ground glowed a bright blue as it came back to life, spreading through the walls of the core. A screech was heard as the structure cracked and awoke with angry life.

"She's just unconscious," Drax informed everyone, picking Mantis off the ground.

"How long until the bomb goes off?" Peter asked Rocket, who was now floating in between Ellie and Blake.

Rocket shrugged. "In the unlikely event that Groot doesn't kill us all...about six minutes."

"God help us all," Ellie muttered, watching as the structure continued to crack and shake.

"Kraglin, we need to the quadrant for an extraction," Yondu ordered into his communicator.

"Somebody's gotta be up top when Kraglin arrives," Peter shouted over the sound of the planet's crumbling. "Drax, take Mantis." Peter took off his aero rig and placed it on Drax's back.

"His nipples!" Ellie shouted in concern, remembering why Drax hated the equipment.

"Ow! My nipples!" Drax shouted as he and Mantis flew into the air.

The ground under the group shook as it cracked and separated, causing Ellie to grab hold of Blake's arm for balance. Ellie whipped around at the sound of Gamora's cry, the ground caving in and sending Gamora down.

"Gamora!" Peter shouted after her. Ellie took a step to the edge, thinking of a way to help Gamora. She was stopped when a metal hand grabbed her bicep, pushing her out of the way. Nebula nodded at the young girl before jumping after her sister.

A large growl and glowing blue tentacles, similar to the ones holding Peter and Blake just an hour before, came out of the ground, pulling Ellie back to the fight.

"Peter!" Ego's face shaped into the planet's surface with glowing blue eyes and mouth.

Blake's eyes widened, his hands going on top of his head. "Holy shit!"

Peter and Rocket quickly took out their guns and started shooting at the tentacles attempting to grab them.

"Come now, Peter. I know this isn't what you want." Ego boomed.

Ellie stumbled back, shooting electric blasts at the tentacles, turning them back to mere rocks as she created force fields to block other tentacles.

"What kind of father would I be to let you make this choice? Soon, Peter, we will be all there is. So stop pissing me off!"

Tentacles surrounded Ellie, slamming against her force field around her body. She spread an electric current between her hands before forming a large ball, letting it gain more energy. Her eyes glowed blue and her hair stood up, pealing the strands off her sweaty face. Ellie grunted, throwing the electricity out, destroying the tentacles that had surrounded her.

Ellie turned to see Rocket getting grabbed by tentacles, grunting from the force they pushed on his body.

"Rocket!" She called in alarm, immediately running towards him.

"No, Els!" Rocket yelled back, seeing a large tentacle wrapped around her waist, slamming her against the ground. She wiggled under its grasp, summoning an electrical current through her body. Sensing the change, the tentacle hit her head, knocking her unconscious.

After blasting another tentacle, Blake saw Ellie from his peripherals, his mask had been broken off during the fight. Eyes widening, he quickly tried to run over. "Ellie!"

Just as he was a few feet from her, tentacles wrapped around his legs, pulling him to the ground. Blake desperately reached for Ellie's unconscious face inches away from him, rocks surrounding him and pushing his body into the surface. He grunted loudly, trying to push his way through.

Blake looked over as a scream reached his ears. He gasped for air, watching as Peter was stabbed with blue tentacles in multiple parts of his body.

"I told you..." Ego began as his form slowly grew human as he approached Peter. "I don't want to do this alone. You cannot deny the purpose the universe has bestowed upon you."

Around the universe, Ego was quickly destroying and covering different planets, making them his own. No matter the lives that inhabited it.

"It doesn't need to be like this, Peter. Why are you destroying our chance? Stop pretending you aren't what you are. One in billions. Trillions. Even more. What greater meaning can life possibly have to offer?"

"I don't use my head to fly the arrow, boy!" Yondu yelled, rocks covering his body whilst Peter painfully looked over at him. "I use my heart..." Yondu was muffled as rocks covered his face. Peter looked over at Blake, who was now mostly covered in rocks, the only sign of him was his hand that still reached for Ellie.

Peter swallowed sadly, remembering the times with his mother when they listened to music on his Walkmen, the times when Yondu taught him how to shoot his blasters, playing games with Blake, the many times Ellie forced the group to take pictures once Peter taught her what a polaroid was, laughing with Drax, flying the aero rigs for the first time with Rocket, goofy dancing to his music with Ellie, moments with Gamora. His family.

A new determination settled over Peter, his hands clenching into fists. Ego's eyebrows raised in surprise as a gust of glowing energy came to Peter

"You shouldn't have killed my mom, and squished my Walkman," Peter grumbled before flying at Ego.

Blake gasped for air as the rocks fell off him. But he felt no relief as he quickly got up and landed on his knees next to Ellie.

He noticed the rise and fall of her chest to indicate that she was still alive. He cradled her head, brushing his thumb against her soft cheek.

"Come on, sparky. Open those beautiful brown eyes for me." He pleaded. Ellie groaned and squeezed her eyes at the prickling pain in her head. "Open them, Els, you can do it."

"Gamora, just five more minutes." She grumbled, rocking her head to the side. Blake let out a relieved and teary laugh, kissing Ellie's forehead.

"I'm gonna carry you okay?" Blake told her as she squinted at him.

"I'm fine, star-boy." Ellie sighed, her head pounding and not knowing what was going on around her. A giggle suddenly erupted from her chest as Blake picked her up in his arms.

"What?" Blake asked with a smile, not being able to help that her laugh was contagious.

"You're so handsome," She giggled drawing her finger in a circle on his chest. "And these muscles! Oh, I would give anything to see what's under all that fabric."

"Yondu, we're about to blow!" Rocket told the blue man as he flew over, Groot now on his shoulder. That was the only thing that would have kept Blake from blushing like crazy at Ellie's word spill.

"Get to the ship, all of you!" Yondu ordered as Blake walked over to them.

"Not without Quill!" Rocket responded.

"You need to take care of the twig!"

"Not without you!" Rocket insisted.

"I'm not leaving you or my brother Yondu," Blake told him, solemnly. Rocket chose to ignore how Ellie was in the young boy's arms, and decided to focus on the fact she was alive.

Yondu looked sadly at Blake, remembering all the times he had pushed such a young kid. Although Yondu had spent more time in Peter's life, Yondu wouldn't hesitate to take Blake as his son.

"I ain't done nothin' right my whole damn life, rat," Yondu said as he looked back up at Rocket. "You need to give me this."

Rocket sighed, knowing he wasn't going to change the blue alien's mind. He reached into his pockets and pulled out two metal disks.

"A spacesuit and an aero-rig. I only have one of each."

Yondu took them and nodded gratefully at Rocket. Yondu then turned to the young boy who had tears come to his eyes. Yondu sighed and put his hand on Blake's shoulder, giving it a small squeeze.

"I'll bring your brother back safe...I promise." Yondu said, letting his hand stay on Blake's shoulder as Ellie looked between the two, too confused to really understand what was going on.

"I want you to come back safe too," Blake uttered.

"Be careful Mary Poppins," Ellie said sweetly. Because of Blake's height, his shoulder, where Ellie's head lay, was at the same height as Yondu's face. Ellie reached over and pulled Yondu to her, giving him a light kiss on the cheek.

Yondu gave the dazed girl a closed smile, patting Blake on the shoulder once more.

"Take care of your girl, son."

"I am Groot," Groot spoke up.

Yondu's brows furrowed as he turned back to Rocket and Groot. "What's that?"

"He says, 'Welcome to the frickin' Guardians of the Galaxy'." Rocket answered. "Only he didn't use frickin'."

Blake looked at Yondu one more time before turning on his aero-rigs thruster and following Rocket out of the core.

"We're gonna need to have a real discussion about your language." Rocket said to Groot as a father would speak to his child.

"I am Groot."

"I don't care what Ellie says, your language is not funny."

ROCKET AND BLAKE landed next to each other in the ship. Gamora was attending to Mantis as Nebula sat off to the side.

"Where's Peter?" Gamora asked. Rocket and Blake looked down, staying silent. "Rocket, Blake, where is he?" Rocket pulled out the timer for the bomb, seeing that there were only 50 seconds left. "Rocket. Rocket, look at me! Where is he?"

Groot, who had jumped off of Rocket and was standing on Blake's foot, pointed back to where the four had just come from.

Gamora immediately stood up. "No. I'm not leaving without him."

She grabbed one of the team guns and cocked it, prepared to run back to the core until she was electrocuted.

"I'm sorry," Rocket mumbled, lowering his gun. "I can only afford to lose one friend today." Ellie turned her head into Blake's chest, nuzzling her face in the crook of his neck. Rocket looked up to the opening of the ship where the head driver would be. "Kraglin, go!"

"Wait..." Drax called. "Is Quill back?" He asked Kraglin who ignored him. "Rocket, Ellie," Drax began, speaking through the coms. "Where's Quill? Rocket, where's Quill?" He shouted without a reply. "Rocket! WHERE'S QUILL?"

Blake's shoulders shook as the opening to the ship slowly began to close. He slowly let Ellie's legs go free so she was standing, his arms still holding onto her torso. Ellie picked up her head as she slid down his body. She gently placed her hands on his face, pushing the hair out of his face.

"Oh, my pretty boy." She whispered, pulling him down to her to wrap her arms around his neck. Blake knew that if Ellie didn't possibly have a concussion she would not have been saying words like this to him, but he didn't care. He needed it. And he needed her.
