"Mel! Have you seen Ziggy?" Aurora called out to her older sister who was walking toward the mess hall to continue some of her chores as a counsellor.
"Ziggy? As in Cindy's sister?" Melissa answered with a confused look, uncertain when her sister became friends with the troublemaker from Shadyside.
"Do you know anyone else called Ziggy? It's not a common name" Aurora said with a laugh, "She was in some trouble earlier, she got burned and I want to check on her!"
"Did you check her cabin? She probably went back there." She suggested. Aurora smiled and went to run off, "Aurora! Please be careful! Mum and Dad said to look after you, and that means not getting in trouble! Especially with Ziggy, Cindy told me what she's like" Melissa stressed.
"Mel, as long as we both come back alive I don't think they care what we do, but I'll stay out of trouble or I just won't get caught!" Rory smiled wide hugging her sister before running off. Melissa watched her with a small smile before returning her walk to the mess hall happy to see her sister making friends after everything they've been through.
Melissa scrubbed the floors listening to Cindy rant about Alice heatedly, "I swear to god, everyone just wants to ruin my life".
"Alice, she's like, she just won't let it go, you know? It's like we're still twelve years old and her whole goal in life is to... to punish me for something that wasn't even my fault" Cindy continued to rant oblivious to Melissa and Tommy's shared looks of amusement. "And Ziggy, ugh, it's only a matter of time before she ends up in jail or worse!"
"I'm just trying to be a good role model and make something of myself. But no, no! I'm the stuck-up priss who hates fun, which isn't true! At all! I like fun. I like fun! I just... I just want to get out of Shadyside. Is that so crazy?!" She finishes as she breaks her sponge on the floor after aggressively scrubbing.
She gasps, "shit!". She throws the halves of the sponge on the floor, "shit!"
"Did Cindy Berman just swear?" Tommy laughs as Melissa joins in,
"That was definitely a swear"
"Not now, you two! Not in the mood!"
"Come on Cindy, let's go find a new one. I need one too" Mel says as she helps her stand and drops her sponge, before walking to the back room past the kitchen.
"I think my sister has become friends with yours" Melissa informs as they look for a new sponge.
"Aurora? She doesn't seem like the type to hang out with someone like Ziggy" Cindy casts a confused look at her thinking about the younger Black sister.
"Aurora's very much like her, maybe more timid and that's why she doesn't do half the stuff Ziggy does. Maybe Ziggy will bring her out of her shell, they might be a good influence for one another. You know? Balance each other out a bit?" She voices. Cindy makes a thoughtful face before eventually agreeing with the blonde, they find the sponges' and walk back to the main part of the mess hall.
A creaking noise sounded throughout the silent room and three of them turned their heads towards the noise. Expecting the worst, they were relived to see Nurse Lane standing there with a sad look on her face.
"Nurse Lane! You scared me, is everything okay?" Melissa asked smiling and studying the woman, "Nurse Lane?" she asked more timidly as her smile fell, "why do you have a knife?" drawing the other two's attention to the kitchen knife in her firm grip.
"I'm sorry but I can't save you" She uttered, "I saw your name. I saw it on the wall. One way or another, you're going to die tonight." She slowly began walking to wards Tommy as she spoke.
"Nurse Lane? What wall? Why's he going to die? Just put down the knife" Melissa asked frantically.
"What are you talking about?" Tommy questioned as she lunged for him. Cindy and Melissa scream, frozen in panic. Tommy manages to wrestle the knife out of her hand, the knife landing next to the two girls but neither made a move to pick it up. Tommy pushed Nurse Lane causing her to hit her head on the bench and lose consciousness. Tommy put a hand to the back of his head before pulling away and looking the the blood that covers it from the fight. No one made a sound apart from the heavy breathing resonating in the room.
Aurora runs over to her older sister in worry after seeing the police cars and the officer questioning them.
"You got some history with her? She had a grudge against you?" The officer asks Tommy.
"No grudge. No, we barely ever talked. I... I go to get bug spray from her. That's it. It just doesn't... it doesn't make any sense." Tommy explained as Melissa grabbed Rory and pulled her closer to her body seeking comfort from someone familiar.
"Why... Why would she do something like this?" Cindy stuttered out.
"She was nuts, just like her kid" The officer insensitively justified to the teenagers, looking between the four of them. Cindy explained about how she seemed normal.
"That's what she said about her kid, but sane people don't chop up their friends. Now, tell me again what happened."
Tommy began explaining the situation again from the start while Melissa payed attention to make sure no details were missed. However, Cindy and Aurora were busy staring at Ziggy who was observing the situation.
Aurora decided to not go the the mess hall for the start of colour war, instead, she chose to seek out Ziggy. Knocking on the cabin door, Aurora blew a piece of hair out of her face as Ziggy opened the door.
"What Cindy?" She shouted. Aurora let out a little laugh and smiled at her.
"Bad timing? I can go if you want?"
"No, it's okay. I just thought you were Cindy." Ziggy responded with a sheepish look.
"It's alright, we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to"
"Thanks" Ziggy appreciated Aurora's offer. Aurora looked around the room noticed the graffiti on the walls and the bucket of red paint.
"Redecorating? Not sure this is what I'd go with but somehow it works. Fits the vibe of the camp." Aurora says with a cheeky smile causing Ziggy to laugh, not long after Rory joins in. "So... what's the revenge plan, Ziggy, because I am totally here for a 'Carrie' moment."
After a while of talking through their plan, the girls look up when there's a knock at the door. Ziggy, once again, thinking it's her sister shouts for Cindy to go away.
"It's me! Nick!" The voice responds. Aurora perks up slightly and starts fixing her hair subconsciously, to which Ziggy suggestively raises an eyebrow.
"Go away, Nick!" Ziggy calls back but he enters anyway. Looking around the room his eyes finally land on Rory. Nicks eyes light up and straightens himself out awkwardly. Ziggy looks between the two of them a few times before snickering.
"Woah! I like what you've done with the place." Nick started as Ziggy explained that it wasn't her, "I'm shocked. 'Ziggy is a witch bitch.'" Nick begins to read off the walls, "'Ziggy sucks cocks in hell' Jeez. Shelia?" He asks.
"Colonel Mustard."
"Looks like blood," Nick says as he looks at what Aurora is currently mixing next to Ziggy.
"Yeah. I didn't have a pig, so..."
"'Carrie.' Cool."
"You've read Carrie?" Aurora asks with slight disbelief as Nicks eyes dart to her.
"Yeah. Second favourite after 'Salems Lot.'" He replies, to which Rory whispers out 'Salem's Lot' with a hint of a smile on her face. Nicks eyes softening knowing it was also her favourite book. He had seen her reading it regularly around school and decided to give it a try, quickly understanding why it was her favourite. "Still, I dunno, paint seems a little pedestrian". Ziggy looks at Aurora.
"What a surprise your favourite book just happens to be Rory's favourite as well and I'm sorry. Do you have a better idea?" Ziggy shoots back with a raised brow. He explains that he might have a better idea than red paint. "Shouldn't you be, like, turning me in or something?"
"Well, I should be supervising Colour War, uh... But I noticed Aurora was MIA and figured she was with you and-"
"So you decided to stalk her?" She asks watching Aurora attempt to cover her blush behind her hair. Nick explains that he was only checking in with both of them.
"Clearly you don't need my assistance. All good. Go ahead. 'Carrie' on." Nick begins to walk to the door after smiling at Rory before she stops him.
"Nick! Wait! What's your idea?" Aurora calls out, ignoring the glare Ziggy was directing at her. Nick smiles before pulling out his keys, letting them jingle together.
"Science and Nature."
