She stretched, cracking her spine as the rigidness left her body. She sat with her friends and coworkers, Rod and Lana, outside of a cafe as they talked back and forth, laughing together.
“I'm telling you, check the cameras! They caught everything!” Lana laughed. “He really didn't see it coming.” She was recounting a time where an open bucket of paint nearly landed on Rod's head.
“That was not funny. I could've died or gotten a concussion!” He tried to maintain a serious face, but his lips quivered, struggling to keep his own laughter contained. “Clearly it was. You were laughing with us! The way he screamed when it landed next to him!” Lana elbowed him playfully.
“I'll definitely have to check the cameras now. Rod screaming like a little girl is something I'd kill to hear.” Y/N commented, causing Lana to giggle and Rod to shake his head. “Whatever. Laugh it up, guys. It's funny until it happens to you.” Lana rolled her eyes.
“Sure, drama queen. Learn to find humor in stuff for once.”
Y/N checked her phone and stood up. “I've gotta go. Vir gets out of school in 15 minutes. Bye, guys!” They bid her goodbye as she entered her car and drove off.
“...”
“So, when are you gonna tell Y/N you like her?”
“What?!”
= = = =
She returned home, eyes immediately landing on Vir sitting next to Maestro, whose legs were crossed with the laptop over them. “So, you two have met?” She leaned against the wall.
Vir nodded, eyes still on the screen. “He played with me and Jasmine that one time!” Y/N stood straight and set her purse down on the loveseat. “What are you guys watching?” She leaned down, peeking at the screen, seeing a tall skeleton man and a blue woman with stitches across her body. “Oh, Nightmare Before Christmas? That's a good one.”
“Yeah, Maestro really likes it! I wanna show him Corpse Bride, too!” Y/N chuckled at her excitement.
“Go ahead. It seems like you guys are having fun. I'll be in the dining room if you need me.”
She grabbed a book she found in Maestro's library and read. She got bored easily, so much so, she'd cook dinner almost every day since she moved in. Her fingers twitched as they yearned to press down continuously on the keys of her laptop. The woman needed new hobbies, really. She regretted leaving her coloring book and colored pencils behind. Though, that was an accident. Her digits needed to move, yet they were forced by her to remain still on the hard, dusty cover of the book.
Her eyes scanned across the words, as her eyebrows furrowed from time to time whenever the wording in the story was hard to comprehend. It wasn't a bad story. She remembered reading the modern translation of it some years ago in highschool; She preferred that version of the story.
As she lifted a finger to turn the page, a pale finger and thumb turned it for her instead. Her head pointed upwards, as his was positioned downwards, staring at her.
The immediate eye contact made a shiver crawl up her spine. She thought his eyes were just a dark brown, but they were an endless black. “Why are you staring down at me like that?” She asked, confused and slightly creeped out.
“I'm sorry. I can't help but admire you. You're very beautiful.”
“Thanks?” She wasn't sure what else to say to that. “Where's Vir?” She didn't see her sister anywhere in sight.
“She went outside to play with Jasmine,” he answered. He slipped the book out of her hands. The woman watched as he inspected the cover. “Ah, Hamlet. That's a favorite of mine. Are you enjoying it so far?”
“Surprisingly, yes. I usually don't care for books that have medieval talk, but this is interesting. It's got some classic family drama in it. And who doesn't love drama?”
He didn't say anything to that. Maybe she confused him in some way? “Come to think of it,” she thought out loud. “The plot of Hamlet seems familiar. Like I've heard it somewhere else.” She looked at Maestro as if he knew.
He simply shrugged. Her laptop appeared randomly in front of her. She didn't question it. She literally lives with a ghost. Y/N searched up her question. “Ok, that's why it seems familiar!”
Maestro peered at the screen. “Lion King is based off of Hamlet! It honestly makes sense now!” He looked at her questioningly.
“Right, you don't know what that is. We'll have to start having movie nights together.”
He knew what movies were now, and he liked the thought of watching them with her. He nodded in agreement. “That sounds fun.”
“Good, cause it will be. Lion King is the best movie Disney has ever made!” She exclaimed.
Maestro watched her amused as she pointed at her forehead while making a goofy face.
“I'll add it to my mental list: movies to introduce Maestro to.”
