Chapter Seven

Jared could hear the sirens from miles away, but he chose to ignore them- he wasn't finished his master piece yet. "Come on Jar," One of his friends called. Jared looked over his shoulder, and noticed it was Ethan. They shared the same cell in prison, and Ethan just got out, so he probably didn't feel like going back anytime soon.

"Nah man," Jared said, "I'm almost finished."

Ethan sighed, while Jared shook the spray paint. He continued to spray the hair on the girl. It curled around her shoulders, which made Jared smile. Then he remembered he had to give her a smile. So he reached his arm up, and created a smile that made her look like she was on top of the world.

"Wow," Ethan whispered, "You know a girl like that?"

Jared thought about answering, but thought it would be better not too. He finished drawing her body, and stopped around her waist, maybe a little lower. He went over her eyes again, because they had to be perfect- captivating. "Do you have any green?" Jared asked.

"Does it look like I have green?" Ethan growled.

"Well I need green," Jared hissed.

"She's fine," Ethan snapped, "Let's go. I can't afford to get caught again."

"You're fine," Jared shrugged, "We won't get caught."

"Jared," Ethan laughed, "You always get caught."

Jared stopped, and realized he had heard that before. He just couldn't remember where. Slowly he looked up at the mural of the girl, and smiled. Somehow she always crept back into his mind.

Lisa must have caught Jared staring at it though, because she shoved his shoulder hard. "That better be me," She sneered.

"That's not you," Ethan laughed, "You're not nearly as pretty."

Lisa shoved him too, and looked up at the mural. "Who is it then," She snapped, "Why are you drawing her, and not me? Tell me where this girl is, because imma kill her."

"I wouldn't draw you, because you'd get caught," He whispered, "And I would never tell you where she is."

He finished the last few touches to the graffiti picture, as the sirens got louder. "Come on man," Ethan yelled. Jared sighed, and signed the bottom of the painting, because he didn't want anyone to get in trouble but himself. His Father always taught him to take responsibility for his actions. That's what his Father had told him when his Father first turned Jared in. So Jared signed it with a big J in the middle of the circle. It was childhood nickname, and it just kind of stuck with the way he signed things.

"Let's go," Ethan shouted, grabbing Jared's sleeve, and pulling him away.

          "Freeze," A police officer shouted.

"I love when they say that," Lisa chuckled, "Like we're really going to stop."

The three of them ran down the alleyway, and made a left behind the restaurant. "Quit lagging behind Lisa," Jared growled.

"Shut it," Lisa snapped, and ran faster. The sirens blared, and you could hear guns being loaded. Lisa squealed in delight, and let out a loud whoop. She loved the rush of being chased, but then again who wouldn't? Your feet got tired, your heart worn out, but yet you got a huge adrenaline rush. It burned through your skin, and your blood pumped faster. The faster the blood pumped, the quicker your legs wanted to move.

You heard the yelling of the officers, and the anger they felt. We were just having fun, was what Jared wanted to say, but they would never understand. Their kind of fun was never the same as the ones who were known as "rebellious."

Ethan couldn't help it either. He whooped loudly too, and looked at Jared. Jared sighed, and whooped loudly took. "Freeze Jared Shay!" Someone shouted, and then a spotlight was put on Jared. Ethan laughed, and then he rounded the corner with Lisa. They had left Jared alone to be taken away by the cops.

"Always getting caught Jared," Ethan laughed, and then Jared couldn't hear his footsteps any longer. Jared quickly looked all around for an escape. There weren't any escapes though. The officer grabbed his upper arm, and wrenched it behind his back.

          "Hey fellas," Jared laughed.

"Jared, you're always getting caught," Officer Ridly said, "Why do you even bother?"

"Its fun," Jared answered, and was dragged out of the alley. They pushed him up against the car, while other officer's took pictures of the wall for evidence.

"Hey wait," Jared called, as the put the handcuffs around his wrist, "My Dad's funeral is tomorrow! My Dad just died! Come on guys, can't you cut me some slack!"

Officer Ridly stopped and turned Jared around to look at him. "Are you serious Shay?" Ridly growled.

"Yeah, I'm serious," Jared said, "Well, actually the funeral is in two days, and the viewing is tomorrow. Come on man, just this once!"

Ridly looked up at the mural, and asked, "Someone you know?"

"Yup, and you'll get to see her if you bring me home," Jared explained, "Family friend."

Ridly sighed loudly, and said, "Fine. I'm letting you go. I'm driving you home, and letting your Mom deal with you."

That was it? Jared got off easy.

"And," Officer Ridly pressed. "You'll be here after the funeral to clean this all up. I'll come pick you up, and make sure you do it! Don't even try to get out of it, because if you do, I'll jail you myself!"

          "Alright," Jared laughed, "Deal!"

"Give me the camera," Ridly ordered. The camera was handed to him, and Ridly shoved Jared into the back of the car.

"Wait, what're you going to do with those pictures?" Jared asked.

"I'm going to show them to your Mom," Ridly answered.

Some how that didn't settle to well with Jared. He didn't care that his Mom saw it, but Angie? That didn't seem right. What would she say about them? It was a great painting, and it really showed her features. Plus it didn't help that Izzy was coming today.

Izzy always made fun of Jared and Angie when they were kids. She would be the first to make sure they got in trouble, because Jared and Angie were always little trouble makers. She would be one of the first people to laugh at the painting.

"Maybe we should go straight to jail," Jared tried.

Officer Ridly laughed as he started the car. "Scared this girl will see these pictures," He laughed.

"It's too awkward," Jared said slowly.

"Why don't you explain it," Ridly asked.

          "It's complicated," Jared sighed.

          Officer Ridly smiled.

Jared smiled, and looked out the window. Soon they were home, and Ridly had to drive down the long driveway. When he stopped at the house, everyone came out, even Angie's sister Izzy.

"This is going to be interesting," Jared muttered.

"It's better than jail," Officer Ridly sighed.

          "True," Jared grumbled.

The Officer got out of the car, and opened the back door for Jared. Slowly, Jared got out, and saw the shocked and disappointed face of his Mother. "Jared, what have you done," She hissed, and Jared knew once again he had been a huge disappointment.
