Chapter Eight
When Izzy came things were exactly like Angie expected them to be. Angie ran downstairs, and out the door to greet her sister, and was soon followed by Kate and Allie. "Izzy," Angie yelled, and then ran towards her sister.
Isabel Nicolson was wearing tight dark skinny jeans with a pink shirt, and a white jacket over it. Her brown hair was short, and curled around her shoulders. She was wearing sunglasses, but Angie could tell that she still had the same brown eyes she had always had. Her pink lips were pressed tightly together, and her small nose was turned up high. She stumbled on the gravel in the driveway in her high, high black heels. "This is crazy," She muttered.
Angie didn't care that her sister was complaining, she was just happy her sister was there. She rushed forward, and pulled her sister into a tight hug. "Izzy," She squealed.
"Angie," She laughed, "You act like you never see me!"
"Thanks for coming," Angie whispered.
When Angie pulled away Kate and Allie rushed forward to give Izzy a hug. "Come in and take your shoes off," Kate laughed, "They must be killing you!"
"They are," Izzy grumbled.
"Why would you wear them here?" Allie laughed. Izzy shrugged, but Angie knew why. It was because Izzy was a city girl, and had been since she was fourteen. She didn't even like the beach. She liked the smells and sounds of New York. When she looked at the beach house, she might as well have been looking at a ranch.
"Come on in," Kate whispered, grabbing Izzy's had, and bringing her into the house.
Maya was standing at the table when they walked in, and a small smile crossed her face when she saw the grown Isabel. She walked around the table, and pulled Izzy into a tight hug. "Oh you're so grown," Maya whispered in her ear.
"Thank you," Izzy said, "It's so good to see you Maya."
Maya kissed the side of her head, and then held her at arm's length. She looked from Angie to Izzy, and smiled widely. "So grown up," She muttered, "I remember when you were both crying babies."
"Some of us still are," Izzy joked, and winked at Angie. Angie smiled, and a slow blush covered her cheeks.
"I'll go get your bags," Kate volunteered, "Come on Allie."
The two of them ran out of the house, and towards Izzy's car. Once they were gone, Izzy turned to Maya, and whispered, "Maya, I'm so sorry about Robert."
Maya bit down hard on her lip, and tried not to cry. "I don't understand why he had to go," She murmured, "He's gone, and I seem to be the only one that cares."
"You're not the only one," Izzy assured her, "Angie and me loved him too. And I'm sure Jared, Kate, and Allie loved him so much, and are very sad."
"Then why aren't they acting that way," She asked, sniffling.
"I think Kate's trying to hide it," Angie whispered, "When I brought it up, she got all stiff and didn't want to talk about it."
"And I'm sure Allie is just as upset," Izzy agreed, "And I'm not sure about Jared. I haven't seen him yet. Is he still the same?"
"You'll have to see for yourself," Angie grumbled, sitting down at the kitchen table. Maya and Izzy followed her lead, and sat down too.
"I think Jared's upset," Maya whispered.
"Why wouldn't he?" Izzy asked.
"Well," Maya said in a squeaky voice, and then they heard a car start pulling in at the end of the driveway.
"MOM," Kate yelled.
They all rushed out of the house to see the police car slowly pulling into the driveway. "Speak of the devil," Angie muttered, crossing her arms over her chest. Maya stepped forward in the crowd, while Kate and Allie slowly retreated, holding Izzy's suitcases and cowering into Angie and Izzy's sides.
The Officer got out of the car, and then dragged Jared out of the car too. He had his hands cuffed behind his back, and his head held high. "Jared, what have you done?" Maya hissed, crossing her arms over her chest.
"Got caught," He smiled.
"Jared, you're always getting caught," Angie laughed, and then got her an evil look from Jared. At the sound of her voice, the Officer looked over at her, and smiled widely.
"Why, you are a pretty lady," He smiled.
Angie blushed, and whispered, "Excuse me?"
"I'm sorry," He apologized, "My name is Officer Ridly, and I was the one who caught Jared in the act again."
"What was it this time?" Maya asked, "And how much will it cost?"
"Graffiti," Ridly answered, "And this time he won't be charged. After the funeral, I'll come back and take him to paint over the drawing. Which brings me back to the pretty lady."
Everyone turned and looked at Angie except for Jared. "What...what did I do?" Angie whispered.
"Why don't you come look at this?" He asked.
"Can I go inside now?" Jared questioned, "And could you take these cuffs off? They're starting to hurt."
"Don't you want to see her face?" The Officer murmured in Jared's ear. The blood went cold in Angie's body as she watched Jared wince.
"Jared Shay," Maya hissed, "You are in so much trouble. You aren't allowed to leave this property. The only time you can leave here is for the viewing, the funeral, and to clean up whatever spray paint mural you created this time!"
"For how long?" Jared asked.
"Until I say," She snapped, crossing her arms over her chest, "I am very disappointed with you. When will you stop this? It's killing me! What is wrong with you? Do you like upsetting your Mother?"
Jared face fell, and he looked at the ground. Allie rolled her blue eyes, and then stormed inside. "I'm sorry," Ridly whispered, "But you should see this."
He held out the camera, and Maya looked at it. "Angie, you want to come see this?" She asked.
Angie looked at her sister, who just shrugged, and then slowly stepped forward. She looked down at the digital camera, and saw the painting. It was hard to make out at first, but then she slowly saw it. She saw the flow of her hair that landed on her shoulders, with her chin held high, and the smile that lit up her whole face. "It's beautiful," Izzy whispered, leaning over Angie's shoulder.
"She's beautiful," Kate corrected.
"She's Angela," Maya murmured, and then they all looked at her.
Angie blushed, "No it's not. I don't look like that."
"Hold the camera up," Izzy ordered. Leave it to Izzy to order a police officer around.
The officer did it anyway though. He held the camera up high, and Izzy made Angie stand next to the camera and Jared. Jared went stiff next to Angie, and kept on a face that would make anyone believe that he didn't care what they were doing.
"It looks like Angie," Kate mused.
"Has her features," Izzy agreed, "Smile Angie."
Angie looked at Jared, and then over at her sister again. She forced a smile, and her sister laughed. "Priceless," Izzy laughed, "It is Angie." Angie blushed, and looked back at the picture. In the corner of the picture, Angie could see a small J with a circle around it.
Angie looked at the picture closer, and saw this twinkle in the girl's eyes. She looked at Jared, and he winced again, because he knew that she knew. The girl in the painting was indeed Angela Nicolson.
