Shadow's P.O.V. Part Two
Time seemed to stop and everything around me seemed to blur in front of my eyes. There was only the note and the countless thougths going through my head as unexplained anger started forming in my body starting from my chest and then spreading from there.
"Shadow...wha-what does that mean? What do the skull and- Shadow! Shadow, what's wrong?!" said Jodie as she hurried to my side and timidly shook my shoulder. "What's wrong?!"
She was so close, but yet so faraway as I stared stonily at the hardwood floor. This is a nightmare, I whispered to myself.
"Hey, guys move! Um, Jodie, we'll take it from here. Just give us a minute,"said Ash as he tenderly pushed Jodie away as he reached for my wrist and pulled me away from the small crowd that was starting to form around us.
I moved silently with him and as he checked that we were safe from earshot he started shaking my shoulder with a strong determination of breaking my spell with the note.
"C'mom, Shadow! We'll find her! They can't be far," he said, trying to console me of my phase.
"We don't know that, Ash. Maybe he took her in a car or something, but then again he got no money so he must take her hostage somewhere before they start moving again. They'll probably move on later on 'cause Sebastian isn't so fond of being exposed in daytime where we would easily spot him," added TJ as he emerged from beside me.
"Your right, but we should call the other guys 'cause we'll need more than three guys-" he pointed at all of us. "working on this. Call Aiden, Jonathon, Flash, and Oliver. All of them. You call them, TJ."
TJ took his cell out his front jean's pocket and before he dialed their number, he added something else. "Wait, before I do, should we call the police? I mean I don't want to because we'll all get in trouble if they look at our files. So, should we?"
After hearing that I forcefully teared myself away from my spell and started acting serious about this. "No, let's just see if we can find her in less than two hours and let's see what we got. Her friends are going to be a problem though." I nodded my head at their direction. Jodie was still trying to figure out what the drawing meant with shaky fingers while Seth and Ruby paced around in agitation. Still no sign of Matt. I narrowed my eyes at that and looked around for any sign of that shaggy blonde. Nothing so far.
"Well, we can always kill them...- Ow! I was just kidding!" exlaimed TJ as he rubbed his bicep at Ash's punch.
"No time for games, TJ. I think we should, um, maybe tell them that the drawing is nothing. Like, since it's Halloween you'll probably see those kind of drawings around. No biggie," said Ash.
"Yeah, but what about Arielle's disappearance. You do know that their not that stupid. Arielle told me they've been at her case of that forest 'accident'--" I sent daggers at TJ who just shrugged. I still was mad at that. "for a little while now and about her hanging out with me. So, we should come up with a good explanation now."
Ash wiggled his eyebrows at me and I sent him a sneer. "Oh, Shadow. It's the opposite; you visit her. Not her to you."
"We're equal so now shut up and tell me what should we do?"
"What you should do is tell me what is going on?!
I glanced back in surprise at the interruption in our conversation. My eyes widened slightly as I caught sight of a shaken Jodie and crossed arm Seth and Ruby.
"Crap!" blurted out Ash behind me. I sent him a dirty look and looked at the trio in front of me again.
"Are you gonna answer me, Shadow?" Jodie asked again, but with a little bit force this time.
Dammit! What am I going to tell them now? I should have thought this before if the time ever came that they found out about this.
I tuned out of my thoughts and thought about my answer. Crap. I looked up at Arielle's friends and said,"Look, Jodie. The drawing was nothing. I mean it's Halloween so of course you would see skull and crossbones and all that tonight. I think I even saw some of them in the hall. So, like forget about it."
Seth snorted and said,"Oh, please. It looks like something a gang would use and by seeing this picture it means death. So, you better give us a better explanation than that because I'm going to punch you in the face if you don't tell me what's going on."
I ignored the 'gang' comment and glanced up at my friends as I sent them the message through my eyes. They looked down and then looked up at me with a decision. They quietly nodded.
I nodded and looked back at Seth. "Fine, I'm going to tell you, but are you ready because it's really not something you hear everyday."
Seth's jaw twitched and he glanced at Ruby and Jodie at the corner of his eye. They looked back and nodded as a reassurance.
"Yeah. I can take it. So, tell me now" was his response.
I took a deep breath and let the words flow out of my mouth. "Arielle has been kidnapped by a gang we know. And we know this because were a part of a gang too--my gang. Also, the one who planned all of this is my ex-best friend, Sebastian."
At first there was dead silence in the group. I observed their expressions as they slowly took the news in. Jodie turned as pale as the dead as she heard this and fear instantly flickered in her eyes as she looked at us. I met her gaze evenly and she looked down immdediately. Seth and Ruby's weren't the same which was kind of a shock. Seth's nostrils flared and he looked at the note with pure hatred which Ruby did the same. I didn't care of they hated us. I just cared that we find Arielle safe and sound.
"How...was Arielle involved in this,"stuttered out Jodie through cracked lips.
"She found out during the campfire party you guys had and well since we found her eavesdropping on our conversation one of us got mad and chased after her. That's what caused her broken ankle and those other injuries. After that I had a little chat with her to not say anything and she agreed not to. She didn't want to cause me any more trouble that I already had. She's been quiet for two months now," I said as I summarized the whole situation between me and her.
"No wonder we keep seeeing her hanging out with you and the strange occurances going on. You didn't threaten her to agree, right?" asked Ruby.
I shook my head. "No, I gave her the choice to say anything, but she didn't want to. Then Sebastian found out about this and well, he has been at her for awhile now."
"Why?"
"Because he is accusing me of something that wasn't my fault and well he's been meaning to destroy me ever since which also includes the people around me--Arielle."
Suddenly, Ash stepped in from behind me and spoke to Seth only,"Better now say anything because not only am I going to kick your ass, but Arielle's death rate is going to rise up which is something you don't want. We can't afford more innocent people to die. So, are we clear here?"
I grabbed Ash's shoulder, but he shook me off and kept his gaze fixed wholly on Seth. I crossed my arms and watched Seth battle his demons.
After a moment Seth took and deep breath and answered,"I won't say anything and your right. I don't want nothing to happen to Arielle." Seth offered his hand and Ash accepted. They shook hands once. I slowly nodded my head in approval along with TJ.
Ash nodded, satisfied, and now he directed his look to Ruby and Jodie. They glanced at Seth and nodded in agreement.
I couldn't help sighing in relief at this and thinking that this went well than I thought. Now, we gotta find Arielle fast or things are going to get ugly.
TJ must have sensed how tense I got because he immediately said,"We gotta go now or well, things are really gonna get...messed up."
"Wait, we want to help too!"blurted out Ruby.
My brows furrowed in disagreement and I answered,"I don't think that's a good day. I mean I'm fine with you guys knowing, but you have no idea how easily those guys will kick you ass out there since you guys have no experience in street fighting especially with bare hands. Also, your Arielle's friends so I'm not going ot let anything happen to you. Thank god that Seb knows nothing about you guys."
"Well, I don't want to stand around here knowing I can do something. Yeah, I'm not as strong as you guys, but I have taken boxing and karate for years now so maybe that can help...?" said Seth.
I cocked my head at that and thought about it for a second. Maybe...but what about the girls? They certainly won't fight, but since Seb doesn't know them they can avoid his wrath and his gang. Maybe...
"Maybe, but what about the girls? Maybe a guy they know can stay with them or something. What do you thing, Shadow?" asked Ash.
"Yeah depends if they have a guy with them. So, can you have a guy with you or something?" I asked them.
A lightbulb seemed to ring in Jodie's head because her eyes widened and she snapped her fingers once. "Oscar! And Ruben! Didn't you say your brother was here, Ruby? I don't they would mind if we hung around with them for awhile."
TJ nodded his head. "That will be good enough and that Ruben kid is pretty strong. Never knew he was your brother!" He smirked at Ruby who placed her hands at her hips.
"I guess were set, but again, are you sure about this, Seth? Not only am I worried about your safety, but surely Arielle will kick my ass when she finds out about this. So, again, are you sure, Seth?"
I was hoping he would decline, but stubbornly he shook his head, and stood to his deal. I sighed and decided we should be heading out now.
"You guys stay with your friends and we'll update you on anything we find. You have your cell with you, right? Okay, then, Seth will keep on contact and we'll see you later," I told them as I nodded at TJ to start doing some phone calls.
Ruby and Jodie nodded and Seth gave them a hug as we started walking away. Seth kept his eyes on them as they moved toward Oscar and Ruben who were together with a few other friends. I forgot we were still at school as the skeletons, fake spiderwebs, and bloody handprints came rushing in. And the loud cheering and music. How could I avoid that?
Suddenly, I felt a hand on my arm, and I glanced behind me to find TJ indicating we should go now or were going to lose time. I sighed and started walking away from everyone- the school.

"Do you think they're still here? Wouldn't that be a risky," Ash put in.
"Not a surprise since they always do things risky not knowing the consequences. If they're still here than it must be somewhere unknown or unused anymore," answered TJ as he opened a door and looked inside the classroom. Again nothing and with a sigh he closed it.
We were surveying the halls of the dark school to see if we'd find anything out of the ordinary. So far we were empty-handed. I peeked in another empty classroom, but got nothing.
"Oh, shit!" exclaimed Ash as he quickly shut a door.
"What happened?"asked Seth beside me.
"Just entered on a makeout session. Wow, that was unexpecting and gross. Like, two sloppy puppies they were," answered Ash as he gave the door another look. I couldn't help letting a soft chuckle leave me and continued to open and close doors.
"Where are the other guys anyway, TJ?" Ash asked.
"Said..they're...get...some...cream," was the muffled response of TJ as he stuck his head in the boys' bathroom.
Ash started laughing while Seth simply smiled. "Excuse me?" I said. They're gonna get some cream? Oh, what the hell.
"I said they're gonna be here in 10 minutes. Why are you guys laughing?" We both looked at Ash as he continued laughing and leaning on the lockers. Seth just shook his head and flashed the flashlight around.
Ash shook his head and got himself away from the lockers, but he was still chuckling.
"Hope you don't get the hiccups!" yelled Seth after him. A minute later we heard a small hiccup and then a curse. We all laughed and then wandered around.
"Hey, guys! Come look at this," shouted Ash toward us. We all glanced at each other and immediately started running toward him.
We found Ash flashing his flashlight inside a slightly opened, wooden door. The smell of mold and paint came from the door and I moved away from the smell as I started coughing.
"Yeah, the smell is pretty unpleasant, but the idea hit me that this is the perfect place to keep someone captive. Not only is it vacant and old, but the smell can pretty much prevent any intruders. I never seen this around the school and it seems perfect. So, we should check it out?" explained Ash as he looked up at us for our opinions.
"In my opinion I think we should because if it hasn't been used in awhile then why is it mysteriously opened even just a little can cause a bit of an alarm, don't you think?" TJ said.
"Right. I've never seen this door before and if you haven't noticed there are some wet, dirty footsteps here that look fresh. And look! They go down the stairs and farther away from us. I get the impression that this is where the heater, electricity, and all related to that is held. I do think we should take a look," said Seth. Now it was my turn.
"Same here. It makes me edgy though that the door is open though because if I were kidnapping someone I would make sure to keep is shut really good. But other than that I'm alright with checking it out," I said.
And with that we slowly and carefully went down the stairs since they were a bit rotted. As we hit the floor I patted the knife in my boot and saw TJ grab hold of his gun. If anything wanted to get through they were gonna have to get through us first. We'll make sure of that.
As I took in all the different tunnels in the basement I decided to seperate us in groups so this will go more quickly. It was me and Ash. And Seth and TJ.
We parted after that and kept in contact with our cells. Me and Ash rumaged through old tubes, desks, chairs, etc since they were big enough to hide someone. Someone like Arielle who maybe had the chance to runaway from Seb and hide.
My boots crunched underneath me as I stepped on cracked cement and wood. They better fix this 'cause this is a lot of destruction going on, I thought, as I surveyed my surroundings more.
We dug in deeper in the basement making the smell intensify. I held my breath and breathed from my mouth, but it really didn't help because now I could taste it in my mouth.
We turned a corner and walked carefully through it, flashing our flashlights here and there while we poked at stuff.
We turned another corner and found a long tunnel before us with a seriously cracked floor and deep holes. The smell now got unbearable making my eyes water and throat clog against the taste.
Me and Ash coughed and coughed till we had to take hold of the walls for support. We were able to limp to the end and leave the smell behind us, but I wished we never had to walk through that tunnel ever again.
Suddenly, Ash stiffened in shock beside and he slowly bent down to take hold of a thin object. I frowned as I couldn't see the thing anymore.
"What is it, Ash," I said hoarsely.
"You...you don't want to know..." was his helpless answer.
"Of course I do. Now hand it over, Ash."
Ash took a deep breath and painfully handed me the object. Now I regretted it because attached to it was a message:
You lose. Your too late now.
I knew that rigid, ugly handwriting anywhere.
I looked at the object closely and to my horror it was a needle. And what made it worse was that it had already been used.
Everything seemed worthless to me now. They had her and now he was going to kill her. Tears threatened to fill my eyes as an aching pain started forming in my chest, but they never came.
The tears never came.
