The team were all gathered in the medical bay. Y/N was lying down with his eyes closed on a hospital bed. IV bags and a heart monitor had been hooked up to him. A red mark lined his bare chest where the lightning bolt had hit him. He was still badly injured, but stable.
Judy was sitting down in a chair next to her father. Joe sat next to her. He put his arm around her and rubbed small circles into her back. The teenager's eyes were red from how much she'd been crying, but she had no more tears to give. Her voice was meek and hoarse, broken like a fractured record.
Judy: I'm sorry... I didn't mean...
Joe: It wasn't your fault. It's alright. He'll be alright. He's survived much worse.
Joe pulled her in close and rubbed her shoulder. Judy leaned into his chest and closed her eyes. Across from the two of them, Caitlin and Cisco checked Y/N's vitals and replaced his IV bag with a fresh one. Caitlin looked down at her fallen loved one. She brought her hand up to his and gently ran her thumb across his knuckles.
Caitlin: Oh, speedy. How many times are we going to do this?
Her tone was only partly joking, but still laced with concern. She wiped her nose and brought her hand back, going back to checking Y/N's vitals.
Barry: How long do you think he'll be out?
Caitlin shrugged.
Caitlin: Hard to say. Normally I'd say just a few hours. But with more of his speed having been drained, I'm not sure how strong his healing is. It may take some time.
Caitlin looked across from Y/N. She saw Judy and how upset she was. Caitlin felt bad, both for her daughter and for herself. She knew the young girl was sad, but she wasn't quite sure what to do or how to best comfort her.
She decided to slowly bring her hand out across the bed. Judy brought her head up and saw Cait reaching out to her. She brought up her own hand and held onto her grasp. The two women's fingers grasped onto one another, holding on for comfort and reassurance.
Snart and Mick stood by the door into the medical bay. Both looked at the comatose speedster and the family of friends around him. Neither said a word, wishing to allow everyone to let the situation sink in.
As the hours passed by and Y/N still refused to wake up, the friends all walked off one by one to deal with their own tasks. Caitlin and Judy were left alone with their family member. Caitlin got up from beside the bed and walked over to grab a fresh IV bag and apply new bandages. Judy continued to stare at her father. Her mind went back to about a year ago to her, back to when their positions had been reversed.
Judy was sitting in the medical bay of S.T.A.R. Labs. She had just suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of a new metahuman criminal. Martina and Thawne had just performed the necessary check up on her, although Caitlin had also entered the lab and pushed them out the way to do it herself.
Now Judy was lying down in a medical bed with a cast on her leg. Her mother checked her statistics one more time before kissing her on the forehead and walking away. Y/N was sitting down next to Judy, checking over her and keeping her company. Soon, the two were the only ones left in the med bay.
Y/N: Don't worry. We'll get you back up and out there in no time.
Judy looked down at herself. Her leg still hurt and she had a bruise on her elbow. Her black eye was tender to touch. But none of those were what was bothering her. She felt defeated and humiliated after her first major loss. People could have gotten hurt. She could have ended up far worse than she was.
Y/N looked at his daughter. He noticed how her head was down, her bottom lip sticking out ever so slightly in a soft pout. He knew that face. It was the same she used to make when she was little and broke one of her toys. He put his hand gently in her shoulder and patted her.
Y/N: Hey, what's wrong, kiddo?
Judy: Dad... I failed. I couldn't stop him. And I and many others got hurt in the process. Things could have gone way worse out there, but they still didn't go well. I just...
Y/N: Hey, hey. It's okay. You're going to fail sometimes. It's just a part of life. You think I didn't lose from time to time when I started out? Just ask your mother how many times she had to patch me up in my first six months alone.
Judy: But I'm not like you, Dad. I'm nowhere close. I can't do what you did. I'm not fast or strong enough. I failed. I'm not a hero like you.
Y/N tilted his head. He brought his hand up to his little girl's forehead and gently tucked aside a strand of hair. He looked at her with a loving smile that brought comfort to the fast woman.
Y/N: My little girl, you are a hero. You've saved countless lives before and I am so proud of you for that. Being a hero is not about how many battles you win or how many you lose. It's about how many times you get back up.
The injured girl felt a bit better. She looked at her father with a gentle smile. Y/N held onto her hand and softly squeezed it, letting her know everything was going to be alright.
Judy continued to stare at her father's unconscious body as he laid in the hospital bed. She brought her hand up to his and gently squeezed it. She looked up at the man she loved and admired. The younger version of the man who had taught her so much. All she wanted right now was for him to get back up.
Judy eventually excused herself. Caitlin watched with a sad expression as the young girl wiped her eyes and walked out of the med bay. The older brunette woman sighed. She turned her head and focused back on her fiancé. As the evening dragged on, she continued to monitor him closely.
Wanting to get her mind off things, Judy eventually found herself in the workshop with Hunter's tachyon device. She looked at it, using a screwdriver to force open the top metal ring on the circular chest piece. The young girl worked for hours, trying to get her mind off her father. No matter how much she tried to concentrate, though, her mind kept replaying that exact moment when her own lightning bolt had hit Y/N in the chest.
Stuck reliving the moment, Judy found herself forcefully slamming the screwdriver across the tachyon unit. Metal clanged as she beat it against the silver ring. The upset girl eventually tossed both items down and fell back into her chair with her arms crossed. She looked away and took deep breaths, not wishing to break down. As Judy stared off into space, a grizzled voice broke the silence of the room.
Mick: You hate jewelry too, huh?
Judy didn't answer. Mick walked up next to her and looked at the tachyon device sitting on the table.
Mick: All this for a hunk of metal.
Mick continued to stare at the odd device. He then turned his head downwards and saw the look on the teenager's face. He felt bad and a little awkward. He knew she was upset, but was unsure how to respond.
Mick: Hey, um, cheer up, kid. One thing I know about Big Red is that he's relentless.
Judy: I do not want to hear this coming from you. My father is a good man.
Mick: It wasn't an insult, kid. Bastard's got more lives than a cat. It's really something to admire, I guess.
Judy turned her head, looking away. Mick sighed and pulled out a flask from his jacket's breast pocket. He took a sip as he spoke some more.
Mick: Just be glad you've got someone to aspire to be. Better than my old man. That is, if I even knew him.
Judy: It's like... everything I do just makes things worse for him.
Mick: Pfft. You? Trust me, kid. You ain't the first one he's gotten in trouble for. The only one who seems to make things worse for him is himself. Believe me. I should know.
Judy turned her head, looking at Mick oddly. She did not expect that kind of advice from him. She looked up and down Rory's body. It was only then that she noticed that he had red blisters and marks near his neck and hands, almost like scorch marks. She pondered his injuries.
Judy: You've got third degree burns. Why didn't you get skin grafts?
Mick: The fire revealed my true self, showed me who I really am. Sometimes it takes dark and foreboding times brought on by our failures to make us realize how we can rise above them.
Judy nodded. She looked at the strange man who seemed more fluent and expressive than he made himself appear. She thought back for a moment, remembering Rory's fate in her own time.
Judy: That's nice. You should write poetry. You know with all your skills, maybe you're not as bad as you make yourself out to be. Maybe you could be one of us.
Mick: One of the good guys? Pfft. Right. The day I become a hero is the same day I publish a best selling novel.
Mick turned around and walked away. Judy watched him leave while leaning back in her chair. A smile crept onto her face.
Judy: Sooner than you think, pal.
Caitlin checked Y/N's vitals again. He was healing, but with more of his Speed Force connection drained, it was taking longer than usual. The brunette woman sighed and placed her hands on her hips. She then brought up her hand and looked at the diamond ring on her finger. She admired it, taking in the shimmer of the small diamond as it reflected light around it. The gold band that held the jewel in place fit snuggly around her finger.
Cait brought her head up and looked at the table beside her. Placed on it were both Y/N's and Judy's helmets. The two winged head pieces sat next to one another like a complementary collection. Caitlin looked at them then back at the diamond ring on her finger and gently exhaled.
Dr. Snow turned around and walked over to the hospital bed. She sat down next to it and softly held onto Y/N's hand. Their fingers intertwined in a soft embrace. Caitlin smiled a bit before the corners of her lips dropped. She looked at the unconscious man before her.
Caitlin: I don't know if you can hear me. Medically I'd say it's impossible, but... you've always had a way of proving that wrong to me. I'm really trying here. I know you believe that I will become a great mother. And I'm trying to be one right now. I really am. But sometimes... I'm not sure if what I'm doing is enough. I'm not sure what to do without you. I could really use one of your corny speeches. You always called me your lightning rod. Right now I need my lightning bolt to hit me.
She looked over at the sleeping face of her beloved fiancé. Cait stood up and gently pressed a soft kiss on his forehead. She smiled down at his peaceful look of sleep.
Caitlin: Get all the rest you need. And when you're done, you come running back to us. That's an order, mister.
Caitlin separated their fingers and backed away. She then turned around and walked out of the room. The brunette woman walked down the hall to try and find Judy. She was intercepted by Cisco. Ramon walked over to her and held up a tablet displaying data readings.
Cisco: Caitlin, hey, look at this.
Caitlin took the tablet and stared at the blinking indicator marks on it.
Caitlin: What am I looking at?
Cisco: We've been performing hourly readouts across the city to check for negative tachyon readings. We were hoping they'd help us try and locate Hunter, keep tabs on him. Some have been successful. But look at this. This is the readout from a few hours ago.
Caitlin looked at the map. The largest readouts were all coming from Mercury Labs.
Caitlin: Okay. Yeah. Zolomon was at the labs. We knew this already.
Cisco: Right, but look at the readouts from an hour ago.
The location of the readout changed. It was now located at S.T.A.R. Labs. A smaller dot remained at Mercury Labs, meaning the large readout was most likely not Hunter.
Caitlin: Okay. So the pulse moved. That could mean...
Cisco: You thinking what I'm thinking?
Caitlin: The tachyon devices all follow the same principle, recycling and holding onto speed energy. So what we're seeing here is built up energy from Hunter's tachyon device that we now have.
Cisco: Right. Now, look at this. This is the readout from just now.
Cisco changed the screen again. It showed the large dot on the same location in S.T.A.R. Labs, only now it seemed to have grown in size. The digital display on the side of the tablet indicated a wavelength frequency higher than before.
Caitlin: Wait, this is...
Cisco: It looks like it's growing in scale.
Caitlin: How would it be able to do that?
Cisco: Could it be possible that it's feeding off of the residual tachyon energy in the labs? I mean, Y/N has run around this place multitudes of times.
Caitlin: Right. So it's be taking in more energy, collecting all it can.
Cisco: Yeah, but what worries me is its capacitor?
Caitlin: What do you mean?
Cisco: Judy's tampered tachyon device could only hold so much before sending it all to Hunter, remember? Judging by recent readings, this thing would need just about 1,400 terawatts more than what it has to overload.
Caitlin: Yeah, but when-
She froze. Her eyes went wide. She knew what this could mean. She looked at Cisco with a panicked expression.
Caitlin: Judy. Judy!
Caitlin raced down the hall. Cisco followed her, quickly realizing the dire circumstances of their situation. They both shouted down the hall, trying to call out to the purple speedster.
Cisco: Judy!
Caitlin: Judy!
Judy was back to toiling with the tachyon device. She stuck her tongue out while eyeing each component. Suddenly, as she was examining it, a small red light began to blink on the side of the device. Judy looked at it, confused as to what this thing was doing.
Suddenly, a storm of red lighting erupted from the tachyon device. Judy dropped it in shock as sparks flew forth. A red bolt hit the screwdriver out of her hand, singing the tip of it. Just then, a flurry of red bolts flew out and hit Judy. Several bolts hit her limbs and chest and wrapped around them.
Judy: Aaaagh!
Judy could feel a pulling sensation around her. Her own purple lightning began to be pulled forth by the lightning, turning red and being sucked down into the device. As it did, more lightning shot out from the ring. It spread across the table and through the room.
Caitlin and Cisco rushed into the room but stopped at the doorway entry. Red lightning spewed around the lab. Equipment was fried, glass vials were smashed, the steel and tile walls were singed, paper files ignited into flames. It looked like an evil corrupted hurricane had engulfed the room.
Caitlin: Judy!
Judy tried to move, but was restrained by the lightning. More and more boots flew around the room. Caitlin wanted to reach out to her but couldn't get through the storm herself.
Coming out of another doorway closer to Judy, Dr. Wells spotted the young girl. He jumped into the room and leaped towards Judy. He tackled her to the floor. The lightning consuming her stopping as red sparks continued to fly across the room. Suddenly, it all erupted into a red shockwave of energy as the negative tachyons were sent out to their new owner. Cisco and Caitlin were blown off their feet and fell to the floor.
The two lab partners pulled one another up. Cisco pulled back the long hair from his face and looked at the destroyed room. It looked like a SWAT team had raided the place.
Cisco: What the hell?
Caitlin didn't bother looking around. She rushed into the room and ran over to Harrison. Dr. Wells was propping up Judy, helping her try to sit up. The teenage girl's face was clenched as she held her body in pain. Tears rolled down her eyes. Caitlin had a worried expression as she bent down to hold her.
Caitlin: Judy, I'm here. It's alright. I've got you.
Judy: It hurts, Mom. It hurts everywhere.
Caitlin: It's okay. I'm here now. Mommy's got you.
Caitlin continued to hold onto her crying daughter. Suddenly, alarms started to flash around the entire lab. Dr. Wells stood up, he looked over at Cisco, both now possessing wide eyes. They knew what this meant.
Patty ran through the halls and met up with Barry and Joe. Red flashing lights flanked her jog, consuming the grey walls into an eerie glow.
Patty: Perimeter breach.
Barry: He's here.
Joe reached for his holster and pulled out his gun. He turned to run off to the medical bay.
Joe: You two find the others.
Patty: Where are you going?
Joe: I'm guarding my kid.
The three separated. Joe rushed towards the medical bay and stood by Y/N's bed. He held up his gun, aiming it towards the only door in or out of the room. He looked over at Y/N who was still unconscious on the hospital bed.
Patty and Barry ran into the lab where the others were. Caitlin was still down, holding onto Judy. Snart and Mick heard the alarms as well and readied themselves.
Wells: Follow me.
Barry and Cisco followed Harrison into the armory. Wells pulled out two tranquilizer rifles and filled them both with speed dampening serums. Cisco grabbed his goggles and gloves. He couldn't use his powers yet, but Zoom didn't know that.
The team all gathered up back in the lab. They huddled around one another, preparing for the strike they all knew was coming.
Wells: Where's West?
Barry: He's with Y/N.
Patty: Any eyes on Zoom?
A thud and clanking sound could be heard coming from upstairs.
Cisco: He just passed our security measures. He's coming through the front doors.
Mick: Where is he?! Let's fry this son of a bitch!
The group all looked around the lab, taking different corners and awaiting Zoom's arrival. They didn't have to wait long. Suddenly, a red blur ran in wearing a dark black suit.
Mick held up his gain and cocked it. Zoom quickly slammed into him. Rory was flung back and crashed into Snart. Both smashed through the glass wall behind them and toppled down to the ground.
Patty unloaded her pistol into Zolomon. The fast black racer brought up his hand and caught every single round. Patty tried to fire again, but was only greeted by the empty click of her gun. Hunter grinned as he released all the stray bullets, dropping them to the floor.
Barry fired his rifle. The dart traveled close to Hunter's neck. However, the fast speedster saw it coming a mile away. He turned to the side, letting the serum dart fly past him and hit the wall.
Moving fast, Hunter ran towards Barry. He pulled the gun out of his hands and slammed his shoulder into Allen's chest. A loud crack could be heard as Barry's ribs broke and he was flung across the room. He crashed into Patty and the two fell to the floor.
Continuing to move quickly, Hunter moved over to Dr. Wells. He pulled the rifle out of his hands and swung it like a bat. He hit Wells in the forehead, drawing blood from an open cut. Wells fell back and hit the ground beneath him.
All of this has just transpired in less than ten seconds. Hunter looked around the room at the damage he had caused and grinned. He felt powerful. Red lightning crackled around his body.
Hunter: Seriously? This is the best you could do? You all are softer than I remember.
Caitlin: Come on, Judy. It's okay. I'm here.
Caitlin was still kneeling down and holding onto Judy. The young girl looked at Hunter. She was trembling, shaking in fear in her mother's arms. Cisco stepped forward and eyed Hunter. He continued to stand there and held up his hands.
Hunter: Go ahead. Hit me.
Cisco glared at Zolomon. However, he did not fire his sonic beams. His palms were still too damaged. Hunter looked at him and sneered.
Cisco: What's the matter, Cisco? Something wrong? Hit me.
Cisco continued to stare at Hunter, his lip quivering. Zolomon ran forward and placed himself in front of Ramon. He looked at him with a mischievous, wicked grin.
Hunter: Shame. I hoped you'd last just a little longer.
Hunter held up his hand and started to vibrate it. Cisco's eyes went wide at the sight. On the ground, Judy became fearful. More than that, she became worried. She became consumed by fear and rage.
Purple lightning crackled around the young girl. Then, quick as a blur, she rushed out of her mother's grasp and towards Zoom. She slammed her body into him, pushing him away from Cisco. Caitlin watched with wide eyes of worry as Judy tried to pummel her body again into Zolomon. However, Zoom brought up his hand and caught her. He took hold of her neck and held her up.
Hunter: You have become quite the nuisance, little one. But you do have your uses.
Hunter placed his other hand on Judy's chest emblem and began draining her speed. The teen girl struggled and pushed against him, trying to break free of his choke hold. In the med bay, Joe continued to stand by Y/N's side. He could hear everything happening out there, but stood his ground in protecting his son.
Hunter smiled as he drained more of Judy's speed. It was all the power he wanted. His eyes started to glow a dull red color.
Suddenly, Cisco grabbed a metal bar and slammed it across Hunter's head. Zolomon let go of L/N, dropping her to the ground. He turned to address the young scientist that had hit him.
Cisco: Leave her alone.
Zoom glared at Vibe. All he did was flinch and red lightning shot forth from his body. Like tentacles, it hit Cisco and shoved him far back across the room. Vibe smashed into the table behind him and fell down to the ground. Caitlin looked at it all. Turning her head, she spotted something in the small lab next to her. She got up and rushed over to grab it.
Hunter redirected his attention back down to Judy. The young speedster was trying to pull herself back up. Hunter brought out his clawed hand and jammed it into her calf.
Judy screamed and fell down. A large gash was on her leg. She tried to crawl away, but Zolomon stood before her. He cackled to himself and glared down at her.
Hunter: Pathetic.
Hunter was about to attack again when he was hit in the chest by a blue bolt. He fell back and held onto his chest. The front part of his suit was slightly burned. He looked up to see who had fired at him. Caitlin walked out of the side lab and held up an energy canon. She cocked it and aimed at him again.
Caitlin: Back. Away. From. Her. You bitch!
Hunter snarled at Cait. The angry brunette took aim and walked closer towards him. She fired another bolt. Hunter grinned as the blue energy bolt seemed to slow down for him. He quickly switched positions between himself and Judy. The young girl was hit in the shoulder by the bolt fired by her mother.
Judy went flying back and hit the ground. Her shoulder looked burned and badly injured. Caitlin's eyes went wide. She dropped her gun and instinctively tried to run over to her baby.
Caitlin: Oh, my God!
Before Caitlin could even make it halfway across the room, she was grabbed by Zoom. Hunter restrained her arms and held her back. He sneered and pulled down his cowl.
Hunter: The last time I had you in this position, I left you to die on the cold floor. Shame I can't do the same to you now. But I can make you watch as I do the same to her.
Caitlin ignored him, pulling against his hands. She was solely focused on Judy. She needed to be by her side. She needed to protect her and make sure she was alright.
Judy looked up. Tears born from both fright and pain streamed down her face. She no longer felt brave. She felt just like a little kid again, afraid of everything around her. The young teen cried out in a hoarse voice to her other parent, the one who had always been there but she could not see.
Judy: DAD!
In the medical bay, lying in the hospital bed, the unconscious body of Y/N heard the cry of his little girl. He registered it and instinctually knew that he had to head her call. She was hurt and he needed to be there for her.
Hearing the call of his daughter, Y/N's eyes shot open. They were glowing a bright orange light. Joe looked back at him as the heart monitor began to beep rapidly. Orange lightning started to crackle around Y/N and off the bed he was lying on.
Then, quicker than anything before, Y/N shot off. He plowed through the glass of the med bay door and ran through the hall. Joe was blown back by a gust of wind. A boom could be heard thudding against the walls as Y/N almost instantly broke the sound barrier.
The Flash raced into the room. A blink would have been enough to miss him. Y/N slammed his body into Hunter, flinging both of them across the room. They both hit the ground and rolled on the floor. Orange lightning flickered around Y/N, snapping at random metal objects and lab equipment like the tongue of a snake.
Freed from her capture, Caitlin rushed over to Judy. She knelt down and tried to help her sit up straight. Cait immediately went to trying to fix her leg and stop the bleeding on her daughter's calf. Judy's eyes were kept focused on her father.
Both Y/N and Hunter pulled themselves up. They stared down one another. Hunter grinned while wiping a trickle of blood from his mouth.
Hunter: Guess you finally decided to wake up. What took you so long?
Y/N didn't say a word. He glared down his opponent. His eyes were locked like a predator finding their target. Hunter grinned again.
Zoom took off and pressed himself against the wall of one part of the room. The Flash rushed over and stood against the wall opposite him. Both men supercharged their bodies with their respective lightning colors. They then took off. The two clashed in the middle. A shockwave of energy and compressed air was released, forming an audible pop as their bodies collided. The two tried to trade powered blows, each dodging the other's attacks.
Hunter eventually got the upper hand. He grabbed Y/N and ran with him, slamming him back against the wall. Y/N threw his hands up and tried to punch Zolomon's jaw. He drew blood which coated Hunter's white teeth, making him look even more sick.
Hunter: End of the line, Flash. Your legacy ends where it all began. With me.
Y/N shouted in anger. He pushed against Hunter before kneeing him in the gut. Zolomon toppled forward and held his stomach in pain.
Y/N grabbed Hunter by the shoulders and started to run with him around the lab room. He dragged him across the walls and made sure to slam him into every corner, every crooked or jagged edge, every sharp tile he came across. Hunter's body was cut up, scrapes adorning his body.
Y/N eventually threw Zolomon hard to the center of the room. The black speedster went down on his side. A large gash was open on his head, causing blood to trickle down through his hair and across his face, coating them in red.
Y/N stood up before Hunter. Just as Zolomon was bringing his head up, Y/N beat him with a supercharged fist. He began to beat down, laying hit after hit into Zoom. The others looked on in concern. They had never seen Y/N this angry before. Worse, he appeared to be getting angrier, more violent with each blow. Judy covered her mouth in shock, seeing her father beat the life out of his worst enemy.
Cisco: He's not going to stop.
Y/N paused for a moment, allowing Hunter time to stand back up. Just as he did, Y/N powered up his hand and punched Zolomon hard in the back. A loud snap could be heard as Hunter's spine was broken. He crumpled down to the floor, paralyzed.
Y/N didn't allow Zoom any moment of peace. He grabbed him by the front of his suit and held him up. Y/N was angry. Unbeknownst to him, his own orange sparks started to turn a blood red. He glared at Zolomon, at the man who had changed his life and who took everything he loved away from him.
Y/N: You are never going to hurt my family ever again!
Y/N held up his hand. He began to vibrate it quickly. He formed his own blade. The angry speedster brought it down to Hunter's chest. He was so close to finally ending it all.
Judy: Dad, no!
Y/N heard her cry. He paused. The Flash looked over at his daughter. She was crying. Tears rolled down her eyes. Worse, she was afraid. Not just of the speed demon, but if her own father.
Judy: Please... stop.
Y/N looked at Judy then back down at Hunter. He snapped out of his rage and looked at himself. His hand was vibrating just like Hunter's the night he... Y/N looked at his hand. Red streaks of lightning zipped around it.
Y/N's eyes went wide. He stopped moving his hand. His lightning went back to its natural color. Y/N looked down at Hunter and his battered state. He dropped him and covered his own mouth. He had done this. He had beaten this man within an inch of his life. He was so close to becoming what he hated.
Y/N took a moment to pause. He looked down at the paralyzed body of Hunter Zolomon. He then nodded. Grabbing a pair of bio-dampening cuffs, he placed them over Zolomon's hands and backed away.
Y/N walked over to Caitlin and Judy. He fell down on his knees and looked at them. Tears fell down his eyes.
Y/N: I'm sorry.
Caitlin brought her hand out, placing it on his shoulder. She squeezed it gently, reassuring him of everything.
Caitlin: It's okay.
Y/N: Forgive me.
Judy: Oh, Dad.
The three came together and held each other close in a group hug. Y/N and Judy were both crying. Caitlin rubbed their backs and tried to stop a few stray tears from falling down her own face. The family all took a moment to take in each other's embrace and comfort.
Their moment of thoughtful silence was cut short by Hunter. The speed demon spit up some blood and started to laugh. He winced in pain from his ribs hurting as he did. Y/N stood up and turned around. He looked down at his foe.
Y/N: What's so funny?
Hunter: Oh, Flash. A new family, new purpose, new powers. And yet you still fall for the same old tricks.
Suddenly, another Hunter ran into the room. He jabbed his hand into the chest of the paralyzed one, killing him. Red lightning soared from the dead Hunter into his counterpart. Zoom breathed it all in, taking in his new and fully powered speed.
Hunter: That felt good.
Panicking, Y/N began to run. He rushed towards Hunter and tried to stop him. The speed demon brought up his hand and clenched it.
Red lightning flung from Hunter's gloved hand and wrapped around Y/N. The Flash knelt down as his speed was drained from his body and into Zolomon. He tried to fight it, but the pull was too great.
Y/N forced himself up and tried to run again. However, he now found Zoom to be much, much faster. Y/N threw his fist up at him. It all seemed to slow down for Hunter. He grabbed Y/N by the arm and flung him to the side.
Y/N smashed into a nearby cart. Zolomon then redirected his attention back to Judy. He brought up his hand and started to vibrate it back and forth. Judy winced and quivered at the sight of it.
Caitlin positioned herself between her daughter and Zolomon. She outstretched her arms, attempting to use her own body as a shield to protect her child. Hunter sneered. He brought up his hand and jabbed it forward. Caitlin closed her eyes, prepared for the worst. Y/N picked himself up, but was too late to stop it.
Y/N: NOOOO!
Caitlin waited for the piercing blow to her heart. However, it never came. She opened her eyes and looked before her. Her jaw dropped open in horror.
Hunter looked down at the speed dampening serum injected into his arm. On the other end, jabbing it into him, was Harrison Wells. Zoom's vibrating hand was plunged through his chest.
Harrison wheezed and let out a weak cough. Zolomon removed his hand from his body. Wells fell down on his weak legs. Hunter looked down at his arm and pulled out the syringe. He could already feel the drug working. As quick as a blur, he grabbed his tachyon device and left the lab.
Harrison Wells fell forward. Before he could hit the ground, he was caught by Y/N who rushed over to him. Y/N looked down at the gaping hole in this friend's chest.
Y/N: No. No, no, no. Why did you do it?
Caitlin picked up Judy and made it over to Y/N. The three looked down at the dying Harrison. Cisco forced himself up and rushed over to them. Wells coughed and looked up at Y/N. His voice was weak, barely hanging onto this mortal coil.
Wells: I... did it... for you. I thought I could do... one last good thing... in my life. You taught me that... sacrifice.
Y/N: No, no. Don't talk like that. You're going to be okay. Get a crash cart!
Wells put on a weak smile.
Wells: Y/N, I'm a scientist. Even I know... there's no point in trying.
Beads of wet tears started to form in Y/N's and everyone else's eyes. Harrison looked between Y/N and Caitlin.
Wells: You two have each other. Soon... I'll be with my beloved as well...
Y/N held onto Harrison's hand. Caitlin held onto his other hand while Cisco tried to pry up his head. Wells looked around at the people surrounding him.
Wells: Out of all my inventions... all my marvels and ideas... you were my greatest creation. All three of you. Thank you... for letting me a part of your family.
The trio started to cry. Judy buried her head in Caitlin's shoulder. Her tears dampened the sleeve of her shirt.
Caitlin: Harrison... no...
Wells brought up his hand and wiped a stray tear from her cheek. He turned his head and looked back at Y/N.
Wells: Don't... Don't blame yourself for this.
Y/N looked down at his mentor with immense sadness. Harrison offered them all one last smile.
Wells: Run, Y/N... run.
With that, Harrison Wells let out his last breath. His eyes went glossy. Cisco gently placed his head down and let it rest. Y/N continued to hold onto his friend's lifeless hand before he finally and reluctantly let go. He broke down into tears.
Everyone broke apart. Tears fell down their cheeks and red faces. Caitlin and Judy held one another, rocking back and forth. Cisco and Y/N held onto one another and cried. Barry walked over to them and kneeled down as well, crying with them. Patty and Joe each gave their own mourning to the side. Everyone cried for the loss of a great man and a true friend.
