The judge banged his gavel three times in the quiet courtroom. Arne's lawyer sat next to the boy, slightly shaking in fear.
"Mr. Johnson, the count of indictment number S-A-J-1-2-1-6 which charges you with first-degree murder, a class-A felony, how do you plead?" The judge asked.
Arne's lawyer sat up and looked at the judge.
"Your Honor, my client pleads not guilty by reason of demonic possession." The lawyers words caused an uncomfortable silence to roam around the courtroom. The Warrens, (L/n) and Arne's girlfriend, Debbie, all sat behind Arne and his lawyer and stared at the judge, who turned towards the cop next to him.
The silence was so quiet the main bell in the town was heard.
----------
"This is ridiculous. I can walk down a flight of stairs." Ed complained as (Y/n) carefully pushed him down a flight of stairs.
"Oh, hush. You souldn't even be out of bed." Lorraine said.
"Don't be a baby about it, you just had a heart attack, but if you want to do it, by all means let's see how that turns out." (Y/n) grumbled.
"(Y/n)." Lorraine said in warning.
"Sorry... You know how I get when something pisses me off... Especially the stupid law." (Y/n) complained.
"Lorraine." Arne's lawyer called. "I just talked to a friend of mine in the prosecutor's office. He's gonna go for the death penalty. I'll build a case, but that kid is gonna either live or die depending on what you three find."
"Well, we won't let him down." Ed said.
"I hope not. Keep me posted." The lawyer said as she walked away.
"So, what now? We've never had to prove a possession after the fact." Ed asked the two women next to him.
"Demons don't just disappear like this, there's something else going on here, something we missed the first time." Lorraine sighed.
"Where do we start?" Ed asked.
"At the beginning." (Y/n) sighed.
-------------
The Warrens and (L/n) were back at the Warrens' house reviewing the tape they took while questioning the family.
"It's July 18th, 1981. This is Ed Warren, here with Lorraine and (Y/n) (L/n)... And Judy Glatzel, Deborah Glatzel, David Glatzel and Arne Johnson. All right let's get started. Who was there when David first started exhibiting this behavior?" Ed's voice said through the tape.
"We all were it was the day we moved in." Judy's voice said through the tape.
----------
"I didn't know what happened. It was like a dream. And nobody believed me when I told them. But that was the first time I saw it." David's voice said through the tape.
----------
"I don't get it. How could he have invited a demon? He was only in here for a few minutes. There wasn't even anything in here." Debbie said, with crossed arms.
"Where was the water bed?" Ed asked, leaning on his cane.
"Where that rug is." Debbie pointed out. "The wood got damaged when the mattress ruptured."
Both Ed and (Y/n) walked towards the rug, Ed watching from above and (Y/n) kneeling down.
"Mind if we have a look?"
"Please."
(Y/n) grabbed the end of the rug and pulled it up. The damaged wood was covered in grey-ish dust.
Lorraine gasped softly as (Y/n) looked back at Debbie.
"This is no water damage." (Y/n) said.
-----------
Ed, Lorraine, Debbie and (Y/n) were all out of the house, standing in front of the doors that lead under the house.
Debbie grabbed the door and pulled it open. The undergraund was covered in spider webs and looked extremely dirty.
"Hon, will you let me handle this?" Ed asked, while Lorraine grabbed her flashlight and shined it at the entrance.
"Says the man with a cane." (Y/n) said, looking at Ed, but he ignored her.
"You're going to ruin your dress if you go in there." Ed mentioned, making Lorraine sigh at the tease.
"So, um, the guest room's about 15 feet in at to the right." Debbie said, placing her hands in her pockets.
"Be careful." Ed said.
"Just hold my purse." Lorraine said, handing her purse towards her husband.
"Alright, let me do this, so you guys don't worry for each other while she is in there." (Y/n) said motioning for the flashlight and the small camera that Lorraine carried.
"(Y/n), don't-" Ed protested, but instantly shut his mouth when (Y/n) glared at him. Lorraine handed her the flashlight and the camera. (Y/n) grabbed the items and walked towards the open door, dropping herself on her knees and crawling inside the underground. She turned on the flashlight and looked around for a bit.
She turned to her right and started to crawl per Debbie's instructions. She crawled to a more open space with a little bit of light shinning from the small window at her right. Rustling was heard making the older woman stop.
She flashed her flashlight around, but didn't spot anything. She flashed her light at something that looked very suspicious. She started crawling towards it, but was stopped by a loud squek.
"SHIT!" (Y/n) yelled, startled.
"(Y/n)?! Are you alright in there?"
"I'm fine! It's just a stupid rat..."
(Y/n) turned back to her task and looked around a bit. She spotted the same rat running towards something behind what looked like wrapping paper. (Y/n) walked towards the papers pulling them back to reveal more rats surrounding what looked like a bag or a blanket.
She looked back at the rats with a disturbed expression.
"You've gotta be kidding me..." (Y/n) sighed.
"Shoo." She exclaimed, motioning her hand to shoo the rats away. The rats ran away from her as she started crawling towards the covered object in the middle of the room.
She grabbed a metal stick like object pulling the blanket away.
A small object covered in bones and sticks was shown to the woman as she uncovered it.
She sharply gasped and glared at the object. Grabbing the small camera from her pocket, she shakily took pictures of the object.
"This is going to be a real pain in my ass..."
------------
"It's a witch's totem." (Y/n) said sliding a picture of the totem towards Debbie, with Drew sitting next to her, Ed and Lorraine next to them and father Gordon next to (Y/n) as both of them stood up.
"Used by Satanists in their rituals."
"You remember how I told you that an inhuman spirit needs to be invited?" Ed asked. "And you couldn't imagine how David could do that? Well, you were right, he didn't."
"We think David was cursed. And on the night of the exorcism, the curse was passed from David into Arne." Lorraine explained.
"Cursed?" Debbie asked. "Are you saying someone did this to us... on purpose?"
"We've heard of satanic rituals like this. The demon is summoned, the possessed individual takes a life and the demon departs." Ed explained.
"Which is why Arne was able to read from the Bible afterwards." Lorraine jumped in.
"Yeah. We think whoever cursed David, used this to draw the demon." Ed said, pointing at the picture of the totem.
"And we'd like you to start mailing these out to every police department you can find. Start locally." (Y/n) said, handing Debbie and Drew a few more pictures of the totem. "And just find out if they've ever seen anything like this."
"There might me someone else we can ask about this." Father Gordon said, grabbing one of the pictures.
"Do you remember the priest who helped expose the Disciples of the Ram cult? It would've been about 10 or 12 years ago--"
"Father Kastner?" (Y/n) asked.
"Yeah, you're right. Only it isn't 'Father' anymore, he's been retired for a while. He tried to help those people. He tried to understand why they did what they did. If anyone is going to be able to tell us what this is, it's him."
