Upon the first touch of this world's morning light, I saw a civilisation lost to ruin and cursed by time's immortal destruction.

What is this land where sorrow is met with such sweet beauty?

I made my strides towards these ruined halls; this world's star beaming through its holed rooftops. Walls made from hand-made stones exposed its corrugated iron bars. The cemented floors embellished with cracked tiles and stone chippings. Whatever colours remained on these ruins had all but faded by rain and shine.

A city stood here.

Why did I know that?

I shook my head at the question. The more I think, the more I forget; the more I forget, the more, I think. Perhaps I should stop thinking.

At least I know that a humanoid society lives here, les I'd be shaped into an altered form like those black creatures. As I approached these broken-down halls, these roofless houses and cluttered floors; there stood a strange chamber at its centre. Be it a hearth, or a furnace of sorts, this chamber burns differently compared to-

A scrap of memory fuzzed in my mind.

Perchance it must be a price to travel to another world.

No matter.

This chamber didn't burn whatever it was inside it. Rather, it seemed like its fuel didn't 'burn' like a star. I reached out my hand to its cracked core and felt its radiance oozing from its mere light. With my light-starved hand, I consumed a portion of its power.

Its radiance was fainter than a star, but it is indeed a viable sustenance to my needs.

With my bare hands I dared to pry the core open, only to hear a latch click behind me.

"Hold up." A muffled voice spoke. "Back away from the generator."

"Generator?" I asked, eyeing the chamber before me.

"Whatever the hell you're doing, you're gonna blow up this entire sector."

"...Come again?" I asked.

"What the hell is wrong with this woman?" another voice scoffed. "Another scavenger?"

"Pfeh, like you're one to talk," said the muffled voice.

"It's a wonder how she's even able to get this far in too," a third voice added.

"Shut your pie-holes," she then felt a hard metal poking at the back of her head. "Lady, if you don't wanna die, step away from the generator or you're gonna blow us up to bits."

"...h-huh...?"

I took a gander at the core before me. Its hue glowing a cyan blue light.

...Nuclear?

No, no, that might not be right.

Arsen crystals?

No, that's not viable in a place like this.

Orange stone?

No, definitely doesn't look the part either.

"-Lady I said back away from the generator!"

"Hm?" I turned my head and blinked. "Oh. Right. Can I ask what this core is made out of?"

I yanked the core away from its centre with one hand.

"What the fu-"
