"Okay bud, go ahead."
"Woah!"
"Amazing!"
"Definitely worth getting up for." Hiccup grinned as the others seemed impressed with the discovery.
"Fishlegs, can you make any of it out?" He asked. Fishlegs walked up to it and began to examine it.
"There are parts of maps and symbols. Nothing I've seen before and there is writing but it is in a language I've never read before." He explained.
"What's that thing?" Snotlout asked, pointing to a weird symbol.
"It must be some kind of tribal crest or something." Hiccup concluded.
"Ooh, I like that way better than our tribal crest." Tuff commented.
"Tuff, we don't have a tribal crest." Hiccup replied.
"Well we should!" Ruff said.
"Yeah, and it should be that!" Her brother agreed.
"Hiccup, this map...you realize it-" Fishlegs was cut off as Hiccup finished his sentence.
"Goes beyond the boundaries of the archipelago. Oh, I know." You knew that look in his eyes. That thirst for adventure. It was something you knew wouldn't be satisfied until he got all of the answers he wanted.
"So what's our next move?" Arrow asked. Hiccup grinned, picking up the Dragon Eye.
"I need to show this to my father. If I can convince him to let us see what this Dragon Eye could open up for all of us, it could change everything we know about dragons!" He said, excitement shining in his eyes.
"And what if he refuses?" Arrow asked.
"If I changed his mind on dragons, I can get him to give this a go too. I know it." You chuckled and walked up to him.
"Besides, even if Stoick doesn't approve, I'm sure Hiccup will be nowhere to be found by morning." You told them.
"She has a point." You all turned as you heard a new voice. "What are you all up to this time?"
"Hey, Ash." You greeted him as the other three brothers came into view along with your sister.
"We found this and-"
"I'll stop you there, Hiccup. We don't need the speach again." Ash cut him off and he nodded with an embarrassed grin.
"So, this thing could mean new dragons and going out further than any of us have ever been?" Zane asked, looking at it carefully as Hiccup handed it to him.
"Exactly!" Hiccup told him, still smiling like a child. Zane chuckled.
"Well then, I agree. You better go talk to your father. Besides, if he gives you all the go...I think I need to talk with (Y/n)."
"Huh?" You asked.
"Come on, sis." Zane beckoned. You nodded and waved goodbye to the others before heading off with your family. You looked back and saw Hiccup racing off on Toothless. You chuckled and turned back to the others.
"So, what is it?"
"If Stoick gives you all a thumbs up, then...we can't go with you." You frowned.
"What? Why not? This will be the first exciting thing to happen in years!" You exclaimed.
"We know that and believe me, we wish we didn't have to miss it, but...(Y/n)...we're needed here." Your eyes widened as you realized Zane was right. If all of you left...Berk would be without any experienced dragon riders.
"So...that means I have to stay ith you guys since I'm the leader." You said sadly. What will the others say? I'm a part of the team! You paused as you realized something else. What would Hiccup say? He...he needs me. We've been a team of our own since he met Toothless.
"No, that's not what I'm saying." Zane's voice brought you back to the present.
"What?" You asked.
"We're staying here. You're going with the others." Zane explained.
"But...then who's-"
"I will," Zane replied. Zane's going to lead? Since when does Ash agree to that? You bit your lip, unsure of whether or not you should stay or go.
"(Y/n), you have more to do than just sit around here with us. We're all going to miss you since you'll be away for a while, but this is what you want. You still have that thirst just like Hiccup does. We'll still be here when you get back." Ash explained giving you a hug. "We promise."
"Yeah! We promise! We aren't going anywhere!" Carl added happily. You chuckled at him before smiling at the others.
"Thank you, guys."
"Don't thank us. Now go and get ready! You've got a lot to do before shipping out!" Ash said. You nodded happily and hurried off. Your smile grew as your excitement built. You were finally off on another adventure and it was one you weren't going to miss for the world.
*A few hours later*
"You ready for this?"
"Blah, Blah, Blah. Why do you have to make a production out of everything? Let's just go already!" Snotlout said as you all waited eagerly to head off.
"Okay, but if anyone has any reservations..." The others took off, rushing ahead.
"Into the great beyond!" Snotlout cheered.
"The great beyond!" The others cheered along. You laughed as Nightshade roared excitedly beside Hiccup and Toothless.
"Okay, no reservations. Let's go, bud!" Hiccup said.
"Come on, Nightshade!" You cheered as you rushed along beside Hiccup. You all took off together, happily anticipating whatever you were going to meet out there.
*A few hours later...again*
"Into the great beyond..."
"Great beyond..."
"The great beyond...*yawn*"
"Oh, come on, you guys. So we had a couple of tough hours. Nothing that's worth anything comes easy." Hiccup said to them. You were starting to get sore from riding for so long, but luckily you had great balance thanks to all of the training with the others that you were able to get up and stretch.
"Is that one of your riddles. Cause now is not the time my friends, we have to keep saying great beyond. Great Beyond." Tuffnut said while his sister echoed him.
"Toothless, let's see if anything's out there." Hiccup told him. Toothless roared to see if there was anything, but nothing came back. "Nothing." It began to rain. Nightshade barked happily since she was a close relative to sea dragons, but the others weren't so happy.
"It seems the farther we go in, the worse it gets!" Arrow called.
"Hiccup, I think we should turn back. We've been flying for most of the day." Fishlegs said.
"We just have to keep moving forward until we're out of this." He insisted. Then you all saw light up ahead.
"Hiccup, is that..." You asked.
"Yeah it is. Everybody, fly for the light!" You all hurried toward it until you were out of the storm. You were stunned. We made it!
"Look at this!" Arrow exclaimed.
"It's incredible," Hiccup added.
"I know, right? We made it, Hiccup! We made it!" He cheered.
"Guys, can we slap each other on the backs later. Meatlug's wings are about to fall off." Fishlegs said.
"Sorry guys. There's a place up ahead we can set down." Hiccup said, but then the dragons all paused and started staring at the island ahead.
"Woah what is it, girl? Don't you wanna rest?" Fishlegs asked.
"Guys, do you hear that?" Hiccup asked as you heard the weird sound.
"What is that?" Snotlout asked.
"I have no idea but the dragons are definitely pulled towards it." Fishlegs pointed out.
"Then I guess, that's where we're going." Hiccup finalized. You all landed and began to get settled.
"This place is amazing!" Fishlegs stated.
"Okay, I'm never going back to Berk." Snotlout said.
"Berk. What's that? Cause I forgot." Tuff replied.
"I guess we don't have to vote on where we're making camp." Hiccup said.
"Haha! I'll take care of the fire!" Snotlout said. He grabbed something from his bag and poured a trail of it before dumping it on a bush.
"Hookfang, light it up!" He fired a shot and the trail along with the bush burst into flames. "Monstrous Nightmare gel. Don't leave home without it." Hiccup groaned and you all went back to settling down to make camp for the night.
Later in the evening, after the sun had gone down, you and Hiccup were sitting along the shoreline together, looking out at the stars and moon. You sighed happily as you admired the beauty before you.
"You were right, Hiccup. There's so much more out here and it's...beautiful." You admitted with a smile.
"And this is only the beginning, (Y/n). Who knows what we'll find out here?" He said. You chuckled.
"Who knows." You agreed. Then, you yawned. Hiccup looked over at you.
"Tired?" He asked. You nodded, rubbing your eyes. He laid down and patted the sand beside him. You smiled softly and laid down next to him. "We can sleep closer to keep each other warm." He offered. You giggled.
"I have no issues with that." You suddenly felt his arm slip under your neck. He was resting his head on his other arm with his eyes closed, but you caught the smile that graced his lips. You blushed and smiled too. You positioned your arm so you could hold his hand. You sighed happily, relaxing in his friendly embrace. "Night, Hiccup." After a moment, you heard his reply.
"Goodnight, (Y/n). Sleep well, okay?" You smiled again as you drifted off.
"I will with you here..."
*In the morning*
"(Y/n). (Y/n), wake up. Do you hear that?" You yawned as you sat up.
"Hear what? It's so quiet." You asked him.
"Exactly, the sound is gone." He pointed out.
"So are the dragons. All of them, gone!" Fishlegs said suddenly. You were stunned.
"Where did they go!?" Arrow asked.
"What now?" You asked.
"We've got to go look for them. Come on, gang!" Hiccup said. You all looked around, calling for your dragons.
"Stormfly!"
"Nightshade!"The twins popped out from behind the rock again and Arrow groaned in annoyance.
"How many times are you gonna check behind that rock? Barf and Belch cannot hide behind it."
"Clearly, you are not aware of the stealthiness of one Barf and Belch... Or is that two Barf and Belch?" Ruff asked.
"Hmm, excellent question. Two heads..."
"One dragon..."
"Two brains..."
"One body!" They went back and forth until Snotlout said,
"Two bodies, half a brain. Hahaha!"
"Nothing, I don't get it. Where would they go?" Hiccup asked.
"Oh, my Meatlug! She wouldn't do this. She would never leave me. She would never do this on her own!" Fishlegs said, freaking out.
"We'll find them. I'm sure they'll turn up." You assured him. Then, you all heard a rustle. Suddenly, Toothless launched out and tackled Hiccup, licking him happily.
"Haha, There you are, bud. Where did you go?" He asked. Toothless hopped off him and began to pace, making strange noises.
"Okay, I think your dragon ate something weird in the forest because he's out of his mind!" Snotlout said.
"No, no, no, no, no, I think he's trying to tell us something." Fishlegs countered.
"W-what is it, bud? Is it the other dragons?" Hiccup asked. Suddenly, Toothless snatched his leg and took off. You all watched as he bolted.
"Uh...how far do you think he's gonna get before he realizes?" Arrow asked. Hiccup sat up.
"Hard to say, he seemed pretty committed." He commented before looking down at his now missing prosthetic. Soon you heard another roar and Toothless hopped over the bushes, dropping the leg with an apologetic look on his face. Hiccup pet him.
"That's okay, bud. I like the enthusiasm." Toothless hopped off of him and Hiccup mounted him. "You guys stay here in case they come back. Toothless and I are gonna look for them from above."
"Be careful." You warned him.
"We will be. Let's go, Toothless!" They took off and you began to head back to the beach. Suddenly, you heard something.
"Wait...guys, did you hear that?" You asked. You all paused. Suddenly, a Thunderdrum leaped out and roared at you all. You all panicked, ducking for cover.
"Oh Thor, Oh Thor!" You looked back as it came closer. "Thunderdrum!!" Fishlegs screamed. You covered your ears as it roared at you all, but suddenly two plasma blasts scared it away. Toothless and Hiccup landed and Snotlout instantly started shouting.
"Anything else you wanna draw towards us? Changwings, ooh Screaming Death maybe. I'm sure there one of those around here!" Hiccup flinched.
"Snotlout, you're yelling very loudly!"
"Oh really, I can barely hear myself because that's what happens when you get attacked by A WILD THUNDERDRUM!!"
"Okay, we need our dragons. I'm gonna go back out there." Hiccup said, but nobody understood what he said except for you. "I said I'm going back out there!!" The others started shouting angrily.
"No way, Hiccup. You are not leaving us alone." Arrow snapped.
"We're dragonless and defenseless!" Fishlegs added.
"And we can only communicate by yelling!" Ruff shouted.
"Which, although quite enjoyable, is not very stealthy. Are you hearing any of this?" Tuff agreed.
"Okay, fine we'll all go together." Nobody understood him once again. "Oh for.. I said we'll all go together!" He shouted.
"Why didn't you just say so? Jeez." Tuff said.
"Let's move!" You called to them. You walked over to Hiccup and he led the way behind Toothless as you all headed off together. It started getting foggy and the atmosphere was very unsettling.
"Uh, Hiccup..."
"I know Fishlegs, no longer amazing."
"Can we get a vote for creepy and weird?" Snotlout asked, raising his hand along with the twins. You were shocked as you saw what was ahead.
"Hiccup..." You breathed. He saw it too and gasped.
"Are those what I think there are?" Fishlegs asked.
"Weirdly shaped white rocks?" Tuff said.
"Dragon bones." Hiccup corrected.
"Ah, a boneyard, yes I like it!" You all glared at him. "I don't like it!" Arrow picked up a weird amber-like rock.
"What is this stuff?" He asked.
"No idea." Hiccup replied. Suddenly, you heard a distress call.
"Okay, what was that?" Snotlout asked.
"That, my friend, is a dragon in trouble," Fishlegs explained.
"Then what are we waiting for?" You asked, running toward it.
"(Y/n)! Hold up!" Hiccup called after you, but you kept going with the others right behind you. You all came to a large area with dragons encased in the amber-like stuff all around you.
"Woah."
"You guys do know what's going on here, don't you?" Tuff asked.
"Yeah, something is trapping the dragons in its amber rock substance and immobilizing them," Fishlegs said.
"Oh, I had a completely different idea which involved oily fish and, uh, bad mutton," Tuff said. You rolled your eyes.
"Then it's breaking them out...and eating them."
"Oh come on, Who would be doing that?" Ruff asked. Suddenly, you heard a loud roar you'd never heard before.
"Get down, now!" You ordered.
"How about that guy? Yeah, he looks suspect to me." Ruff said before Fishlegs yanked her back down. It looked toward you all, but you stayed completely still. Hiccup held Toothless back from attacking it. It picked up a Terror and flew off, making a weird call as it flew off.
"No, no, Toothless! No, bud!" Hiccup said, holding him back. "It's the sound. That's what draws the dragons in."
"Song Wing," Fishlegs said.
"What?" Arrow asked.
"That's what we should name it."
"Now? Really? You want to name it now?" Hiccup asked.
"We need to call it something." Fishlegs countered.
"Yeah, I'm thinking Death Song might be more appropriate. You know, 'cause you hear the song, you're dead." Tuff said.
"Tell you what, he makes a pretty good point." Hiccup agreed.
"Yeah, I do... Wait, what was it again?" Tuff asked.
"It doesn't matter what we call it. If it's doing it to all these dragons, then it probably did it to ours." Arrow said.
"We have to find them." Fishlegs agreed.
"Fast!" Hiccup ordered. You all began to look around.
"Stormfly!" Arrow called.
"Hookfang! Hookfang!" Snotlout said frantically.
"Snotlout, look!" Arrow called. Hookfang was trapped and Snotlout rushed over.
"Hooky! I am getting you out of there, Fangster." He promised. You looked around. You whistled a short tune and Hiccup was just about to ask you what you were doing when you heard the tune repeated in a roar. You turned and spotted Nightshade stuck up higher on one of the ledges.
"Nightshade! I'm coming!" You called.
"But you can't get up to her-" Hiccup cut off and you jumped and pushed of one rock wall, doing it again on another, and doing a final backflip before landing on her ledge perfectly.
"How does she do that?!" Tuff asked. You grinned, but then you heard the Death Song coming back. You saw it out over the horizon.
"Guys, it's coming in fast!" You called. Toothless jumped up onto a ledge, growling.
"Toothless! No!" Hiccup called. Toothless fired at it, but it shot back, trapping him as well.
"No!" Hiccup called, running over to him. "You guys, get your dragons free! Now!" You all tried hard to break them out, but the Death Song spat amber at each of you, trapping everyone but you, Arrow, and Hiccup. It hadn't spotted you up on the ledge by Nightshade.
"Wha...I can't move! I'm totally stuck!" Fishlegs exclaimed.
"Me, too. I can't believe that thing got me. I'm usually so limber." Snotlout said, struggling.
"Yeah? Well, at least you got your own cocoon." Tuff grumbled.
"Oh, yeah, like this is a picnic for me," Ruff grumbled back before they both fell over with a yelp. It went after Hiccup.
"Hiccup, it's come for you!" Arrow yelled.
"No, it's not!" You shouted. You grabbed your shield and flung it at the Death Song with all you had. It got ready to spray Hiccup, but your shield nailed it in the face. "HEY! PICK ON SOMEBODY YOUR OWN SIZE, PAL!" It growled angrily at you before roaring and getting ready to spray you instead. You jumped, making your way down the cliffs and ledges as fast as you could. The amber narrowly missed you as you dashed from one ledge to the next. You ran for your shield as fast as you could. It noticed this and shot at your shield to keep it from you.
"No!" Arrow grabbed it and threw it toward you. The amber hit him instead and he fell, trapped as well.
"Arrow!" You and Hiccup exclaimed.
"Hiccup, run!" You yelled. He took off, knowing he had to fall back and think of a new plan. You knew he wouldn't make it with the Death Song so close. All or nothing! You rushed forward with your shield, sliding in front of Hiccup as it fired. You held your shield out and it hit you hard. It knocked you back and you let go as you fell onto your back.
You opened your eyes, shocked and a bit dazed. You were completely encased in the amber. Your shield had protected you from getting completely stuck so you could move more than the others could, but you were trapped and had nowhere to go.
You tried to move so you could start digging, but your right arm was stuck to your shield at the roof of the little amber cave you were stuck in. You attempted to pull it free, but it was no use. The amber was too strong.
You were able to see through a thin slice of the amber. You saw the Death Song dive after Hiccup as he rushed away. You frowned, praying he'd make it. "You can do it, Hiccup. I know you can."
Hiccup's POV
I groaned as I was thrown off the Thunderdrum. I sighed and stood up, looking around. I was relieved to see that we'd gotten away.
"At least we lost the Death Song." I frowned as I grew frustrated. "Oh, no, I can't believe this is actually happening. I should've left
