You remembered the horror you'd felt that day. It still traumatized at night. Hiccup had helped you through it, staying with you most nights until it had gotten better, but now...now it was all coming back. What was more apparent though...was what a monster you could now see Johann truely was.
Hiccup suddenly grabbed you, holding you close and protectively. You looked up and even you felt a little scared at that look. It was one similar to when he'd been tricked by Leon into thinking you had betrayed him. Only this time, it was different. There was no hurt in his gaze...only pure blooded hatred.
"How dare you..." He began. "How dare you torment her like that?" His voice was shaking with fury. "You sicken me, Johann. You sicken me more than anything else on Earth."
"Oh, how charming! I could say the same for the two of you." He growled, but then he grinned. "Now then, I believe we're all caught up. The lenses, please. Now." You stayed close to Hiccup as he glared at Johann, handing him the satchel. As he turned, his attention falling away from you two, you both made a break for cover. Hiccup kept you close and Johann saw what was actually in it.
"What? No!" He began to look for you both. "Oh, Hiccup, why make this any more complicated than it needs to be? Perhaps, for old times' sake, I should regale you with tales of alligator races with the Sultan of Zanzibar or some such fictional account of my travels."
You both held your breath as he searched. Johann had never seemed so scary before. "That's right, Hiccup. The tales I sold you and your gullible father I plundered from real merchants before I sunk them and their ships." Hiccup whispered to you as Johann monolouged.
"Stay here, I'll get them free. Be ready." You nodded, swallowing hard and knowing you had to trust him. You gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Be careful." He nodded and crept out. As he did, you heard the sound of a mirror breaking. Hiccup gasped and ran for it. He got his Inferno and freed the dragons. You lept out of hiding, dashing for Nightshade. She snatched you and dropped you into the saddle.
Toothless blasted a dagger that came at you as you ran. The Sandbuster was there in mere moments. You and Hiccup worked together to drive it away. You were able to scare it off and Toothless blasted the top of the tunnel where it had escaped, trapping it there for the time being.
"Good job, Toothless." You turned.
"Hiccup." He looked at you. "Johann. He's gone." Toothless and Nightshade growled.
"Now's not the time, bud. But I have a feeling we're going to get another shot at him soon." You both hurried away together and you were a bit distracted as you escaped. You began to head out and look for the Twins. "(Y/n)?" You turned as you heard his voice again. He looked concerned. "You okay?" You looked down at your hands. Suddenly the weight of it all began to hit you.
"No..." You breathed. "I'm not, Hiccup." Tears started to fall. "I'm really not..."
*Later, at your hut*
You and Hiccup had gone to your hut first, telling the twins to bring everyone to the clubhouse and you would both explain after you got something from your hut. The 'getting something' bit was a lie.
You walked in and collapsed into the nearest chair, your face falling into your hands. You couldn't believe it. You couldn't believe that Johann had been after you all these years. You couldn't believe he'd known about your feelings for each other for all those years. How? Your mind questioned. How did NONE of us realize?
Hiccup sat down with you, holding you close. You leaned in closer to him as he gently rubbed small circles into your back. He already knew what this was about and he knew you needed a minute of silence. For that, you were grateful. He really did know you so well.
"This is what I had always been so afraid of..." You whimpered suddenly, even surprising yourself for a moment. He looked at you, waiting for you to explain. "I was always so scared that, if you and I ever did happen, it would become dangerous. It would be leverage."
"It?" Hiccup questioned, knowing that you had a different word in mind. You looked down in shame.
"Knowing...that I would be leverage..." You told him. He held you close again. "I was terrified that, not only would I not be able to protect you, but...I wouldn't be able to protect myself either. Protect myself...my family...my friends...everyone..." You breathed.
"Stop." You looked up at him. His forest green eyes gazed into yours, a finality in them you had only seen one other time: the day he had decided to go after Toothless and his father and face the Red Death. "(Y/n), I have always known the risks of being in love, not just with you, but with anyone. You and I have known since the first day we found out about our dragons that there was always risks involved. First it was my father and our own people, then it became others: outsiders. But no matter who we were against, we took the risk. Do you remember why?" You thought about it for a moment.
"Because...it was the right thing."
"Exactly." He cupped your cheek. "I love you. I am betrothed to you. I am yours and yours alone no matter what. And no sneaky, revolting, backstabber like Johann or any other threat is going to stop me or scare me out of being with you until the day we reach Valhala. Not anymore. Not ever again." Your tears came back as you looked at him, seeing just how much meaning his words held in them.
"I-I'm sorry." You whispered, your own finality starting to finally and truely show through.
"What?" He asked, wondering what you meant. You placed your hand on top of his.
"I'm sorry for doubting everything... I will never be afraid again. Well," You smiled a little. "at least, not afraid to love you." You told him before you kissed him. He kissed back, pulling you closer by your waist.
Neither of you cared how long you were taking. The others could wait, Johann could wait, the Dragon Eye could wait, the world could wait for all you two cared. This was where you both belonged; this was where you both wanted to be. And not even the gods could change your minds.
When you both were finally out of breath, you knew it was time. After all, this wasn't over yet. However, neither was your time with him. As you both excited your hut, you gripped his hand tightly, forcing him to look at you.
"I'm not done with you yet, Haddock. Remember that." You told with with a smile and a desireful look in your eyes. He smiled the exact same way.
"I look forward to it, princess."
You both joined the others at the clubhouse. Hiccup began explaining everything with Johann and all the ways he'd been playing you all throughout the years. Heather looked like he was about to hunt down Johann herself and hang him on the wall when she heard about his plans involving you. Arrow, though you could tell felt the same way, calmed her down enough so you all could finish talking.
"So Johann has been playing us all for years. And the twins are the reason you figured it out?" Arrow asked. Ruff and Tuff chuckled as they placed the necklace on Chicken.
"And you're sure my lens will help us find this King of Dragons?" Dagur asked.
"I hope so." Hiccup replied, placing the lens into the Dragon Eye Two.
"So do I, brother. So do I." Hiccup turned to Toothless.
"Okay. Hit it, bud." You all saw the image on the wall. It was the five classes of dragons.
"Five different classes." Fishlegs stated.
"And we have lenses for three." Hiccup added, holding them up to it as well. The image became clearer.
"First person to find all five lenses-" Arrow began.
"Reveals the King of Dragons." Fishlegs finished. You looked at Hiccup.
"I think we all know with this means." You began. He nodded in agreement.
"Game on."
