You looked around as you made it to his hut. You saw that all the others were at Tuff and Ruff's hut. You nodded in satisfaction. Good, so nobody's even paying attention to me.
You knocked on the door and, for a moment, it seemed like nobody was going to answer. Then, it opened and you were yanked inside. You yelped as you were instantly tugged into a strong hug. You giggled and hugged back.
"Did anybody see you?"
"No, something weird is happening at the Twins' hut. We're all good." He sighed in relief.
"Perfect." Hiccup leaned in and kissed you and you gladly kissed back. With everything that had been going on, both of you had become a bit burnt out. It had taken a bit of courage, but you had eventually asked Hiccup if you could slip into his hut one day unnoticed so you both could have a little time to yourselves. He had emdiately said yes.
So now, here you were. Nightshade and Toothless were out playing, the others were busy with whatever was going on at the twins, and nobody in the entire world could care less about where you and Hiccup were. It was just what you wanted.
When you both pulled away, you went up to the loft and you giggled as Hiccup picked you up bridal style just to carry you over to the bed. You rolled your eyes.
"I have legs, you know."
"Yeah, I know. But I wanted to be courteous." He set you down and sat next to you. You both scooted closer together, smiling. You kissed him this time as his arms wrapped around you. Every time you did this you couldn't stop your heart from pounding in your chest. Every time he would always leave you breathless. You really couldn't get enough of it.
This time when you pulled away, he smiled at you differently. You saw the grin forming on his face. You were already expecting him to ask. Both of you wanted to be comfortable at times like these, but last time you both had done this Hiccup had taken ten minutes to even ask if it was okay. Now, it seemed he had more confidence. "So, can I do it this time?" You rolled your eyes.
"You make it seem like this is going father than it actually is, Hiccup." He blushed.
"I-I, um, w-well..." You giggled at how flustered he got. There goes the confidence. You gave him a peck on the cheek.
"Someday." You told him and he relaxed after that. You took off all of your rider gear. It wasn't really comfortable to lay down with it on. He did the same. You had to admit, both of you had been very nervous about it the first time you'd done this, but now it was just expected that you both would get more comfortable with each other. The topic had only come up because, while Hiccup had gotten used to sleeping with it on, his prostetic wasn't exactly comfortable for you to lay down with.
Soon, you both got comfortable laying down together. He smiled down at you as you cuddled up to him. His arms wrapped around you as you laid your head against his chest, listening to the rhythm of his heartbeat. You remembered the first time you'd been close enough to hear it. You hadn't been able to stop blushing over the thought of it for a week.
You heard him sigh happily, stroking your hair gently. You blushed a bit, closing your eyes and smiling softly. Gods, we're way too addicted to each other. Then again, I guess that's not really a bad thing~
"(Y/n)," He spoke up suddenly.
"Hm?" He sighed again, holding you closer.
"I love you." You smiled sweetly and kissed his neck softly in the way you'd learned that he liked.
"I love you too, my dragon prince." He chuckled.
"Well, if I'm a prince, then I'm happy to already have met my perfect princess."
"Hiccup!" You said, blushing in happy embarrassment.
"It's true!"
"Oh whatever." You brushed off, pouting with a smirk you were trying to hold back.
"Are you saying you don't believe me?" He asked.
"Oh? And what if I am?" His 'evil' grin quickly turned into and excited childish smile that he couldn't help but make at you.
"I'll show you!" He suddenly pinned you underneath him and started tickling you. You shrieked, laughing and trying to grab his hands and keep them away, but it was no use.
"H-Hiccup! Hahaha! W-wait! No! S-stop-ahahaha!"
"No! Your my princess! I won't stop until you say it's true!"
"H-Hiccup Haddock, I swear your craz-AH!" You shrieked again, still laughing as he squeezed your sides.
"Say it~" He cooed childishly.
"Never!" You said, grinning like a child as well.
"Say it."
"No!"
"Say it!"
"I won't give in!"
"Don't make start getting your special spot~" You froze.
"You wouldn't."
"I will~"
"No."
"Yes."
"No!"
"I'm gonna do it!"
"Hiccup, I swear if you-" He leaned in and pretended to chomp on your neck. You felt the playful pecks start tickling your sweet spot, making you nearly scream in laughter. "OKAY! OKAY! YOU WIN!" You squeaked, laughing so hard you were nearly in tears. Your sides hurt as he finally stopped, letting you catch your breath. He smiled at you, chuckling to himself.
"So, what are you?" You sighed heavily, smiling lovingly at him.
"I'm your dragon princess."
"Heh," He leaned in. "that's all I wanted you to say." He kissed you again, holding you close and completely capturing you in it.
Once you both pulled away, he looked a little unsure. You frowned, knowing something was wrong. You cupped his cheek, concerned.
"Hey, what is it?" He saw your concern.
"Oh! No, it's nothing huge! I just...well..." You tilted your head, curious as you listened. "I was...wondering if...this time I could...listen to your heartbeat?" He asked shyly. You blushed, but you smiled at him softly.
"Of course." He looked relieved and happy.
"Really?" You nodded.
"Go ahead. I don't mind." You both got comfortable again as he rested his head on your chest. You held him lovingly, tenderly stroking your fingers through the strands of his hair. He let out a heavy breath, his body quickly relaxing at you touch.
"Gods above, I...this is..."
"I know." You giggled softly. You closed your eyes, letting yourself start to drift off with him just like all the other times you'd done this together. "I know..." Your gentle whisper was all he needed to start drifting off too.
Both of you stayed that way together, enjoying the company. It had only been two or three minutes, and you both were already nearly asleep. But, as your luck would have it, your time was about to run out.
"Hiccup!" You both screamed at the sudden shout. You clung to Hiccup, shaking like a leaf for a few seconds as you both sat up faster than lighting. Your eyes went wide with shock as you saw Dagur standing there. He looked just as surprised. Then, he smiled widely. "Hey, you two didn't tell me you were together!"
"DAGUR!" Hiccup shouted angrily.
"Am I interrupting something...special~?" He hinted mischievously. You blew up at that, blushing insanely while your face had also gone red from anger. You snatched up your boot from off the floor and whipped it full force at him. Having no time to react, it hit him square in the face. "OW!"
"GET OUT!" You screamed and he quickly scurried away at your outraged shout.
"SORRY!" He shrieked like a girl as he ran for what he assumed could be his life. You groaned loudly, falling back onto the bed as you continued to fume with anger and blush out of severe embarrassment. Hiccup groaned as well, staying sitting up.
"Why is he here!?" You groaned in frustration.
"I need help with something!" He called from below.
"FOR THE LOVE OF THOR, I SAID OUT!!" He yelped again as your other shoe came hurtling down from the loft in his general direction.
"SORRY!!" You heard the door shut and you grabbed the pillow, screaming into it. Hiccup rubbed your shoulder with a sigh, starting to smile again.
"Hey, calm down. He's gone."
"I'm still gonna kill him! Does he not know what knocking is!?" You snapped, tossing the pillow to the side and huffing in frustration as you stared at the ceiling. I CAN NOT believe him! Hiccup chuckled at you and leaned in, kissing you sweetly for a moment.
"Come on, we need to see what's going on." You groaned.
"Let him deal with it! I want to stay here with you..." You whined at the end. Hiccup pulled you up into a sitting position.
"Come on, (Y/n)." You sighed heavily as you both got your gear back on and went down. Hiccup opened the door and Dagur waved to you both nervously.
"Eheheh...may I come in now?" Hiccup crossed his arms and yours had already been crossed. "I didn't know she was here! It's urgent! I was in a hurry! I'll do better next time! I promise!" Hiccup sighed and stepped aside, letting him back inside. You thwacked him over the head as he walked past.
"Do it again and I'll let Nightshade loose on you." You warned. He chuckled nervously.
"Sorry, (Y/n)." You sighed, your anger finally leaving.
"So, what's going on?" Dagur pulled out an old diary and began to explain how it kept leading Heather and himself into danger for no reason.
"If she keeps following this diary, she's gonna get killed. She's become reckless. And I don't mean that in a cool, swashbuckle-y kind of way. I don't know if you've noticed, but people in my family can get a little fixated on things, like ruling an archipelago, controlling a Skrill, killing you two."
"I hadn't noticed." You chuckled slightly.
"And you're afraid Heather's got the same obsessive nature." Hiccup said.
"We're Berserkers! It's in our blood! Please, Hiccup, look through my dad's diary and see if there's anything in there. A clue, a sign, a harbinger of doom, something!" You both looked at the nonsense written in the diary.
"Well, Oswald certainly didn't want anyone to know what he was working on." Hiccup said.
"No kidding. This thing is more complex than Carl's diary. And trust me, that took years to decode."
"Wait, what?" Hiccup asked.
"Long story short, he was acting strange and I wanted to know why. Turns out he was trying to set up and huge prank that, if he had done, would've probably backfired and destroyed our house."
"Okay...?"
"Sounds awesome!" Dagur said.
"Anyway, moving on." Hiccup stated.
"So when you tell Heather there's nothing in it worth following, she'll listen to you! She won't listen to me because she's a stubborn, headstrong, stress-inducing-"
"Sentinel." Hiccup said suddenly.
"Well, not the word I would've chosen." Dagur stated.
"No, this sketch. It looks like it might be a Sentinel dragon." Hiccup said, showing you both the picture.
"But those dragon only live in one place." Hiccup nodded at your statement.
"I know. Vanaheim."
*Later that day*
"You excited? Because I am pu-umped! How far is it to this retirement island, anyway?" Dagur asked.
"Look, Dagur, Vanaheim is an incredibly secret place. You cannot tell anyone about it." Hiccup warned.
"Oh, don't worry. I'm great at keeping things to myself. Anger, frustration, rage."
"Hiccup, look at this!" Fishlegs said, coming over and showing both you and hiccup a sketch of a dragon skull in the journal.
"Hmm. Never seen a dragon like that before." You looked at it a little longer.
"I...I haven't either but...why do I feel like I have at the same time?"
"Wait, (Y/n), you recognize this?" Hiccup asked.
"I mean, not really but kinda yeah? I don't know it just looks...familiar."
"Vanaheim, it's so full of mysteries and mythology! This is just a thread in the tapestry of its deep, rich history!" Fishlegs said. You smiled.
"Well, we'll find out soon enough if I've seen it then." You said, mounting Nightshade.
"Ready, bud?" Hiccup asked. Toothless roared, signifying that he was ready to go. You heard Ruff shouting some things at a row of chickens. It was at that point you tuned out. Do I even want to know? You already knew the answer to that; no, you didn't want to know. You heard Tuff whail,
"Chicken!!" Arrow sighed at his behavior.
"I'll stay behind." He offered.
"Thank you." Hiccup told him. Dagur was getting impatient.
"Can we go? I mean, not that your chicken hunt isn't of great importance, but let's be real here, people!"
*In the air*
"I really hope we find something about Dad on your island of decomposing dragons, Hiccup, for Heather's sake. Should I have brought Heather with us? Oh. What's that I'm feeling? Ooh. Oh, what is that? Must be guilt. Blah! Ooh, I don't like that." He stated.
"Uh, you said her obsession had become dangerous, didn't you?" You asked him.
"I said that? Sounds about right." Dagur agreed.
"Then you're doing the right thing." Hiccup told him. He smiled.
"Yeah, don't worry, Dagur. We'll get this sorted out, I promise." You told him.
"Thanks, guys." Suddenly, Fishles shouted,
"There it is!" You all looked on ahead as you spotted the island coming up.
"All right, gang, here's the plan. We land, look for Oswald, and then cover ourselves in fruit." Hiccup told you all.
"Not that I don't appreciate a good fruit bath now and again. I mean, the last one was just..." He paused. "Uh, but I really don't see how it's gonna help."
"To escape, Dagur! To escape." Hiccup said. You began to explain.
"The dragons on this island are blind, but they smell like the fruit. So, if we smell like the fruit, we can get out of here." He nodded.
"So those statues are really dragons?"
"Don't worry. They're not gonna bother us on the way in. Maybe on the way out." Then, they started to move. You were stunned. "Uh, Hiccup?" Fishlegs began, growing alarmed.
"Are you guys sure this is the right island?" Dagur called. The dragons started attacking.
"Just ride it out! They remember our scent from last time! They know we're not sick dragons. They've-"
"Adapted, I know! It's so fascinating." Fishlegs said, adding onto Hiccup's statement. You all had to dodge more attack.
"Know what else I personally find fascinating? Not getting killed!" Dagur yelled.
"I have to agree with Dagur on that one!" You called. You spotted some other dragons going onto the island. Toothless growled. Nightshade did too.
"I see them, bud. Hey, Fishlegs?"
"Are those sick dragons?" Fishlegs asked.
"Must be." Hiccup replied.
"Oh! So they're letting those little shifty dragons on but not us? I didn't come all this way not to get Heather some answers. Follow me!" You saw Dagur start to dive. You were concerned, but you braved it.
"Let's go, Nightshade! Come on!" The Sentinals tried to stop you, but you all powered through the attack. You landed less than gracefully, but it had worked.
"That was brilliant, Dagur! You knew the gust of air from the wing clap would slow us down just enough so we wouldn't be smashed to bits!" Fishlegs said.
"Uh...yeah! Let's go with that." Dagur replied. You all got up and dusted yourselves off before starting to look around. Hiccup came over to you as you did.
"Hey, you okay?" You chuckled.
"Yes, I'm fine." He blushed.
"S-sorry, I just-" You kissed his cheek.
"Come on, you dork." You said, taking his hand as he smiled and you both headed off together.
You had been walking for a long time with no signs of any clues what-so-ever. You were worried. You knew that this was important to Dagur too, even if he said Heather was more obsessive over it than he was. You were just hoping to give him something.
"Trying to think positively here, but it feels like we've been walking in circles." Dagur said. You frowned.
"Wait, I found something!" Fishlegs said. You all hurried over. It was some strange looking teeth. They looked almost unnatural to you. "I've never seen teeth like this before. Maybe Sharp Class?"
"And there are more over here." Hiccup said, finding more of them not too far away.
"Great! So besides finding a bunch of dragon teeth, the diary led us to another dead end. Yippee!" Dagur said sarcastically, crossing his arms.
"We've got to be missing something." Fishlegs said. You saw Nightshade begin to wander off. She sniffed around before looking up and barking. You went over to her.
"What is it, girl?" You looked where she was looking. You heart skipped a beat.
"Uh...guys? Good news, and...weird news." You started as they walked over and you pointed to the gaint skull you'd seen in the journal.
"Oh my Thor!" Fishlegs exclaimed.
"Oh my Thor, is right! Wait, what is he right about?" Dagur asked.
"The skull. It was in the diary, Dagur. It proves Oswald was here!" Hiccup said.
"And possibly still is." Fishlegs added. Dagur looked nervous suddenly.
"Ahh...I hadn't thought of that. Hadn't thought of that at all."
"Well, now we know why I had a weird feeling I'd seen it before." You said. Hiccup nodded.
"Yeah, I can't believe it's this huge." You all took off into the air as Toothless roared to make sure it was safe. "Whatever this dragon was, it was bigger than the Red Death."
"And it's been here for a very, very long time." Fishlegs added.
"No kidding." You agreed. You all got out of the long tunnel and looked around.
"Oh, we're close. I can feel it!" Fishlegs said excitedly. Suddenly, Toothless and Nightshade started growling.
"What is it, bud?" Hiccup asked. Suddenly, the dragons from before appeared and started attacking you. You yelped as you dodged their attacks. You saw the teeth stuck in tree.
"Hiccup, these are the same teeth we found earlier. These dragons aren't sick!" Fishlegs said angrily.
"They're hunting." Hiccup agreed, also sounding angry. You all worked together to scare them off. As you took to the air, you spotted something off in the distance.
"Guys! Over there!" You called. You hurried over and saw a makeshift hut as you landed.
"This wood has been salvaged from a Berserker galleon." Hiccup said.
"He was shipwrecked..." Dagur said, sounding sad. You bit your lip as Dagur stood at the door.
"So do we knock?" Fishlegs asked, uncertain himself.
"Uh. Maybe we should take a snack break before heading in. Anyone hungry? Feeling a bit peckish." You frowned, knowing why he was stalling. "I'm kidding! Gotcha!" He turned to the door again, but he stopped. "I mean, someone had to do it, right, Hiccup? The Berserkers needed a leader!"
"Dagur, are you all right?" He asked.
"I mean, oh, uh, yeah, sure, maybe it was a bit of a power grab, taking over the tribe the moment Oswald went missing. It's crazy, but I never really regretted it until just now..." Hiccup put his hand on Dagur's shoulder.
"Dagur, open the door!" Dagur frowned, glancing at you. You nodded, giving him a soft smile.
"Okay, I can do this. Omm..." He opened the door and walked in. You all waited outside. It was only a moment later he came out looking heartbroken. You knew that look. The boys frowned too. We were too late after all...
*Later*
Dagur placed the helmet on top of the rocks and you frowned as you saw how sad he looked. You knew the feeling all too well. You knew the weight of blaming yourself.
"This is all my fault. He he was stranded, Hiccup. He died here...all alone."
"You had no idea where
