"I-I-I never sent a search party! I mean, I-I had a lot going on back then, being evil and all. But I should have tried!"
"You feel guilty. That's totally normal." Hiccup told him.
"I was a villain." You frowned, feeling worse for him by the minute.
"No, you were a kid. A misunderstood, diabolical, slightly maniacal-" You bumped him, glaring a little. Though, you knew it was true. "Yeah, okay, fine, so you were a bad kid. But none of that makes a difference. He was your dad. He loved you no matter what."
"I guess we'll never know..." You sighed.
"Dagur-" Fishlegs called for you all, cutting you off.
"Uh, guys? I think you need to see this." You walked in and saw a drawing of the dragons from before on the walls. "Look, you were right, Hiccup. They're hunters. Oswald named them Grim Gnashers."
"They prey on the sick dragons." Hiccup said.
"And apparently, Oswald would help the Sentinels drive them off." Fishlegs said. You smiled.
"See? Your dad was a hero." You told him. Dagur smiled too.
"Of course he was. He was a Berserker." Suddenly, Toothless sniffed around and grabbed something.
"Bud? What is it?" The box fell and two scrolls tumbled out of it. Dagur grabbed them.
"One for Heather, and this one's for...me?" You were stunned.
"He left them for you." You said, smiling slightly. Dagur stood up again, looking at you all, uncertain. You all began to leave. "We'll give you some time to yourself." You left and Dagur went up a watch tower to read his on his own. You sat down by the shore. You took in the view and left the breeze gently wash over you face.
Soon, you heard footsteps. You opened your eyes as someone sat down beside you. You looked over and spotted Hiccup. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you closer.
"You alright?" He asked. You sighed heavily.
"I just...I know what he's going through." Hiccup nodded.
"Yeah...I know." You cuddled closer to them.
"It's hard somedays...still wondering if there was something I could've done." Hiccup held you tighter.
"Please don't think like that, (Y/n). It wasn't your fault, just like this wasn't Dagur's fault." You sighed.
"I know, Hiccup." You told him. He pulled back a little "I've come to terms with how my life has turned out and...I'm not sad about that. I'm actually...really happy." He looked confused for a moment. "I know I lost some things along the way. I know that a lot has happened to me. I know that it's been hard and I know that it always will be, but...it's all been worth it."
"It has?" He asked, sounding somewhat happy, but also a little confused and even disbelieving. You chuckled.
"Of course it has. Hiccup, I have so many things to be happy about. I have my brothers, I have amazing friends, we all have the dragons, and, most importantly...I have you." He smiled at your words.
"(Y/n)..." You cupped his cheek, smiling too.
"I've had you since day one. I'll never forget that. Just like I'll never forget the people that aren't here anymore. That's all I have to do, isn't it?" You told him. "I don't like losing people, nobody does, but if anything ever happens, I won't forget them. I might not be able to see them, or hold them, or hear their voices, but I know they're still with me." Hiccup laughed breathlessly.
"How?" He breathed.
"Hm?"
"How are you so...perfect? How did I get to be with someone like you? I mean...(Y/n)...you're amazing." You blushed, smiling.
"No matter what happens, I'll never forget you, Hiccup." He leaned in closer. "Do you think you can promise me that too?" You said with a cute giggle and smile. He smiled in return.
"I promise I'll never forget you, (Y/n)." He kissed you and you felt your heart pounding harder with each beat. He pulled away, leaving the two of you breathless. "I love you." You snuggled closer to him.
"I love you too."
Suddenly, you heard something. It sounded like Dagur. He was fighting the Grim Gnashers. You and Hiccup grinned at each other.
"Let's go." You took his hand as he helped you up.
"Couldn't agree more." You both hurried off.
"Toothless!"
"Nightshade!" The two dragons came running. You both hopped on, saddling up.
"Let's go, bud!"
"Come on, girl!" You took the the air together and you spotted Dagur up ahead. Fishlegs had joined you as well. "FIRE!" You shouted. Nightshade blasted a few of them, helping Dagur and Sluether. Toothless fired a few shots too.
"Dagur, aim for the leader!" Hiccup called.
"On it!"
"Fishlegs, you cover the Gronckle!"
"You heard him, girl!"
"(Y/n)-"
"I'm right behind you." You said with a grin. He smiled as you both worked together to drive off the rest. It was working for a while, but there were too many of them.
"We need more dragon power!" Suddenly, the Sentinals came out of nowhere. They helped you drive the rest away. Dagur went after the leader.
"Yeah, that's right! This is Oswald's island, you shifty sky vermin!" He shouted. You cheered.
"Woohoo! We did it!" Dagur cheered too.
"Whoa! Whoo! Yes! Hey, for a battle with no fatalities, that was actually pretty fun!" You all began to head out.
"Hey, guys, it feels like it's probably time to go." Hiccup said. You all saw Dagur wasn't following. "Uh, Dagur?" You saw him smile.
"Yes, Hiccup. I believe you are right." You smiled at him as he joined you. The Sentinals stopped you, however. You grew nervous.
"Uh, Hiccup? We might need to go back down for the fruit." Fishlegs said.
"I don't think it'll work this time..." Then, then bowed to you all. They parted, making a path.
"Uh, what are they doing?" Dagur asked.
"Looks like they're thanking us!" Hiccup said. You smiled. Awesome.
"Whoa." Fishlegs breathed, equally impressed.
"As you were!" Dagur called to them, making a hand motion.
"Y-You know they're all blind, right?" Hiccup told him. You giggled.
"Whoo-hoo-hoo! Look at this! Hundreds and hundreds of fruit recipes!" Fishlegs said.
"You know, Fishy, your commitment to discovery is unparalleled." Dagur said.
"I know." He replied proudly. Dagur looked at the second scroll.
"I need to get this to Heather."
"Well, maybe sometime you could bring her back here. Seems like we've earned the Sentinels' respect, which is pretty impressive." Hiccup said.
"Oh, wait, so I earned respect? I'm so used to just demanding it. That's crazy."
"Feels pretty good, right?" You told him. He smiled happily.
"You know what, Dagur? Going in that hut may have been the bravest thing I've seen you do." Hiccup told him.
"Well, I couldn't have done it without all your Hiccup-y guidance. And, you know, if you ever go on a seemingly impossible wild-goose chase and need a little company-"
"Happens all the time."
"Too often." You muttered, grinning and causing Fishlegs to laugh a little.
"You can always count on this ax, brother." Dagur said. You smiled.
"I'm glad you finally got your answers, Dagur." You told him. He smiled at you.
"So I am."
