You were in your temporary hut, writing a letter to your family. You had to warn them of the Dragon Flyers so that way Berk would be prepared if an attack were to come. You sent the little Terrible Terror away and he hurried off to Berk. You sighed heavily, wishing that there was something you could've done to prevent it all. However, there was something you knew you still had to do.

It was late, and everyone was resting for the night. Nightshade was asleep as well. You crept out of the hut and silently began to walk through the village. You headed out toward the woods. You needed some alone time and the cliffsides always seemed to have great views and a calming atmosphere to them no matter what island you were on.

You set down once you found a good spot and tried to relax. It started working after a little bit. You sat there for a long time. The soft rhythm of the waves crashing against the cliffside was alluring. Just as you were about to get up and head back, you heard a twig snap. Yo were instantly on your feet with your weapons out. Someone came out of the shadows with there hands raised to show they weren't a threat. You calmed down once you saw who it was.

"Sorry, Throk. I guess I'm still on edge after all. I came out here to relax. Now I'm wondering if it actually worked, heh." He nodded.

"I understand what you mean. These are hard times to find peace. I came because I saw you leave the village. I lost your trail for a while, but I'm glad I found you. I wanted to make sure you stayed safe. I apologize if I'm intruding."

"Oh! No, no, you're fine! I'm glad you were concerned about me. You're just trying to make sure everyone stays safe. Besides, I was about to head back anyway."

"Well then, allow me to escort you." You smiled.

"Thank you, Throk." You both walked back together, chatting quietly. Once you made it back, you thanked him and told him goodnight. He told you it was no trouble and said goodnight to you as well. You both parted ways after that.

As you began to make your way to your temporary hut, you passed Hiccup's hut. You paused, wondering if you should go in and check on him. Would that be weird? I feel like that would be weird. You debated on it for a moment longer before braving it and walking inside. You kind of wanted to see him anyway.

He was asleep and so was Toothless. Toothless heard you and his head popped up as he growled. You gasped, his aggression startling you. He stopped when he saw it was you. He whined, clearly sorry for growling at you. You chuckled quietly and pet him, whispering,

"It's okay, Toothy. Everyone feels that way right now." He purred, nuzzling your hand. "You go back to sleep, Toothless. I just want a moment with Hiccup, okay?" He yawned and curled back up, going back to sleep.

You walked over to Hiccup's bed, sitting down on the side of it. He still didn't stir, which relieved you. You didn't really know what to do to wake him up. You blushed as you realized how creepy you were probably being. Yep. Just watching my boyfriend sleep. Definitely weird. You sighed mentally. Okay, I mean he IS my boyfriend. Nevermind, (Y/n). Just wake him up or leave. Not that hard.

You leaned down and kissed his cheek. It was a soft and gentle kiss. He stirred a little, letting out a quiet groan. You smiled and brushed some of his hair out of his face. He turned over in his sleep, his face scrunching up a little as he began to wake up. You decided it'd be best if you said something so he wasn't completely surprised by you.

"Hiccup. Come on, wake up." He groaned again and his eyes opened.

"(Y/n)? What's going on? Is something wrong?" He asked, sitting up and rubbing his eyes.

"No, nothing is wrong. I just...couldn't sleep is all." He looked at you, a little surprised until he smiled.

"Come here." You happily scooted closer as he pulled you into his lap, holding you close. "I'm actually glad you're here. I, uh...wasn't sleeping too good either."

"You weren't? You seemed fine when I came in."

"Yeah, well, that was probably the only time." He admitted. You smiled softly at him.

"Well, maybe I can help with that." You told him before leaning in and kissing him. He melted into it, happily kissing back. Your heart was pounding inside your chest. Every time you kissed him you felt this way. You couldn't help wanting it to last forever.

Hiccup held you tighter and pulled you down with him so you were both laying down together. Your face was bright red and it must've been bad if Hiccup could still see it in the dark. You heard him chuckle before he said,

"You look as ripe as a strawberry right now." You buried your face into his chest, muttering into his clothes.

"Oh, whatever, you meanie. It's not my fault you're so good at that..."

"What was that?" He asked teasingly. You looked up at him, glaring at him but still blushing.

"I said it's not my fault your kisses are so freaking good that I can't get enough of you." His face turned red now too. You didn't think it was possible to blush any harder, but clearly you'd been wrong. Your face got even hotter as you realized what you just said. You buried your face again, trying to hide it from him so you wouldn't have to face him.

After a moment of having a silent heart attack, you felt him kiss the top of your head. You tensed a little until he said,

"I could say the same thing to you." You le out a small frustrated scream into his clothes.

"Stop making me blush or my face is gonna light of fire!" He laughed a little.

"Gods above, you're perfect." You looked at him again, smiling softly.

"Oh, whatever."

"It's true. I've never met anyone as wonderful as you." You smiled a bit more and tucked your head under his chin. His fingers proceeded to gently comb through your hair. You sighed heavily, relaxing at the comforting rhythm of his gentle touches.

"...Hiccup?"

"Yes?" You cuddled closer to him.

"I love you."

"I love you too, (Y/n)." You both slowly drifted off together, happy and content in each others arms. You both slept peacefully after that.

In the morning, you woke up to Hiccup, gently shifting your body into a cradling position as he sat up. You blushed, looking up at him with wide eyes. He smiled at your posture.

"Can you get any cuter?" You crossed your arms, pouting.

"Stooooop. You're gonna make me blush way too much again!" He chuckled and kissed the bridge of your nose.

"Oh, well, we can't have that, can we?" He teased lightly. You smiled at him as he chuckled at you. He stood up before setting you down on the bed so you could get up easier. He suddenly looked past you, looking surprised. "Uh..." You turned and snorted, trying not to laugh. Nightshade was laying on top of Toothless as the two lounged together, clearly comfortable in some odd way and sleeping like rocks.

"She must've come in sometime during the night."

"I have never seen them sleep like that."

"Me either!" You giggled.

"Well, better wake them up too." You grinned.

"I got this." You walked over to them.

"Who wants berries and a bath~?" You cooed. Nightshade was instantly up and rushing to get to you. However, she tumbled over Toothless, waking him up as he roared in shock and surprise. The two were a heap of tails, wings, and scales in less than 10 seconds. You laughed and so did Hiccup.

"You two okay?" He asked. They both grumbled, clearly not as enthused as you two were.

"Sorry, you two! I just had to!" They both grumbled again and untangled themselves before getting up and following you and Hiccup out of the hut. The entire gang was outside, sitting around gloomily with their dragons who looked equally upset.

"I've seen worse." Hiccup said.

"Remind me when that was. So, should we talk about our next move, Hiccup? I was thinking, we should probably try to get the Edge back?" Arrow asked.

"Can we get the Edge back?" Snotlout questioned.

"I mean, guys, how many of those Dragon Flyers are out there?" Fishlegs added.

"And what is your favorite part of the human face and why?" You all looked at him, confused. "What? We're not playing 'Ask the guy next to you an awesome, yet completely unrelated question'?" Tuff asked.

"I'll play. The eye socket." Ruff said after a moment.

"Why's that?"

"Come closer and I'll show you." She said gloomily, raising her fist.

"Okay." She got ready to punch, but she sighed and lowered her fist.

"Not even fun right now."

"What if I do it for you?" He said, taking her arm and making her punch his eye. "I'll give you another. Ah!!"

"Nothing," Ruff said, pulling her arm away.

"Really? Okay, we are officially bummed out." Tuff concluded.

"You will all have time to plan the correct course of action. But right now you are mentally and physically exhausted." Mala said as she came over with Throk.

"Meh," Tuff replied.

"You need to rest, regroup. You are welcome here among us for as long as you need." She told you all.

"Thank you, Mala. You have no idea how much this means to us." Hiccup said.

"Fishlegs, there is an ore mine in the middle of the island. Oxides, sulfides, silicates..." Mala listed.

"Oh, no, no, no, no! Don't say silicates, it makes her..." Meatlug starting drooling lava. "...drool."

"My queen has had me scouting out some pristine locations where one could build a temporary boar pit," Throk told the twins.

"Boar pits." Tuff began.

"So last year," Ruff added.

"What about a lava pit? Very dangerous. Hot, smoldering magma?"

"Sounds spicy!" Ruff said as they both got excited.

"One might even say, muy picante. Como esta tu espanol, Throkman? Mi Throkante." Tuff said. You looked at him in confusion. Since when could he...? Oh nevermind. I'm not even going to ask.

"Snotlout? Some of our younger warriors are in desperate need for hand-to-hand combat training. But if you're too tired, I-" Snotlout cut Mala off.

"Ha! The Snot doesn't do tired. Where are those little guys?" He said, taking off on Hookfang.

"Again, thank you, Mala." Hiccup told her.

"I've been precisely where you stand, Hiccup Haddock. When one leads, one is looked upon for all answers, some of which they haven't yet found."

"The keyword being 'yet'," Arrow told him.

"Yeah, we'll figure it out. We always do. I believe in us and I believe in you." He smiled at the both of you.

"Thanks, guys."

"Now, care to explain once more exactly what happened on your island?" Mala asked. Hiccup proceeded to describe what all went down as Mala listened closely while you all walked along together.

"But I was under the impression that you, and only you, were able to train dragons."

"Those are not trained," Arrow said.

"And they definitely don't want to be carrying around those men or attacking us." You added.

"They are being forced to carry the Dragon Flyers." Hiccup explained.

"And to do their bidding," Mala said, clearly angry at the idea of it.

"Plus, it's pretty obvious that his whole plan hinges on the fact that he knows we won't hurt his dragons. It's gonna take something we've never thought of to get around that." Hiccup said.

"But you'll come up with it," Arrow told him.

"Thank you... H-how do you know that?" You jumped in, sitting down next to him.

"Because Hiccup Haddock is the wisest, most talented and brave Dragon Trainer on Earth. And he always comes up with it." Arrow nodded in agreement.

Just as you were all getting comfortable, fireballs suddenly rained down from the sky. You were stunned by how quickly everything went from fine to horrible. Actually, no. I shouldn't be surprised. This is a daily thing with us! You cursed in your head. You rushed over to Nightshade.

"Who was supposed to be on patrol, again?" Hiccup demanded.

"Snotlout!" Arrow snapped.

"I was? Nobody told me that!"

"Where were you?" Arrow yelled.

"...Sleeping."

"Ugh! Get to your dragons! We have to get into the air!" Hiccup ordered. You all took off. Hiccup was being tailed by one of them.

"Look out!" Arrow called. He dodged it, but they Flyers weren't letting up.

"We need to lead them away from this island. They came looking for us. They will follow us. It's the only way!" You all hurried off together, leading the Flyers away. You looked back at the burning buildings, your heart sinking. I'm so sorry, Mala. I hope by leading them away, that will help keep your village safe from any further harm.

Once you all made it to another island, you crashed there, trying to regain your breath. It wasn't easy being on the run from these guys and your dragons weren't the only ones feeling the exhaustion set in.

"I think we lost them, for now." You called out.

"Maybe, but they can't be too far behind." Hiccup said.

"Whoa!" Snotlout got tossed off of Hookfang. Hookfang was very exhausted. "Oh, man, those guys are good."

"No kidding. I'd like to train with their trainer. Probably has two legs and everything, uh...I-I-I mean, you know, just, it's more to get a different kind of angle on...or like a different perspe- Forget it." Tuff said as Hiccup and Toothless glared at him. You ignored him and looked to Hiccup.

"So what now? We can't lead the Flyers to other islands with allies. They'll just get attacked as well."

"I know. Which is why we need to come up with a new strategy and fast."

"Yeah, but what?" Arrow asked. Just as he finished saying that, the Dragon Flyers showed up. You all hurried to get away. Hiccup tried to take down one of the men on the back of the Singetail, but the blast hit the Singetail instead. Toothless get ready to fire again, but Hiccup stopped him. You sighed in relief. We shouldn't hurt them. They don't want this any more than we do.

"Hiccup! I know how you feel about-" Arrow began, but Hiccup stopped him.

"We're not gonna hurt the Singetails. Not if I can help it. Just follow me. Their dragons won't go near this fog. They'll be too spooked."

"Okay, then what?" Fishlegs asked.

"We go home. To Berk."

"Then what are we waiting for!?" You called, hurrying into the fog with the others close behind. After that, you all hurried back to Berk. Once you made it there, you were greeted by Zane and the rest of your family. They had been on patrol, guarding the island.

"(Y/n)! Hiccup!" Zane called out.

"Zane! Thank, Thor. Is everything alright here?"

"Yes! We got your message. Stoick's been waiting for you all to get here. We knew you'd come back at some point. Come on, he's in the Great Hall. He wants to see you, Hiccup." Hiccup nodded and the boys and Cala stayed on patrol while you and Hiccup went to talk with Stoick. The others went to their own homes to get some rest.

"You did the right thing by coming home, son," Stoick told him.

"It wasn't part of the plan, but-"

"Everyone loses a battle once in a while."

"Everyone except you." Gobber laughed at that.

"Oh, please. Stoick has lost his fair share of conflicts. You've just never heard of them. Because us vikings tend not to write about the skirmishes we lose." Then he started singing and dancing. "Viking Berkians tried and true! Got our butts kicked By a little tiny crew!" Him and Spitelout laughed some more as Stoick stormed over.

"I don't recall losing to a tiny crew." He began.

"No!" Gobber agreed quickly.

"We won't lose this one."

"Couldn't agree more."

"Stow it, Gobber."

"Yes, chief. It's stowed. Never to be un-stowed again." You rolled your eyes. Seriously, Gobber?

"Hiccup, it's not the battle that counts, son. It's the war. And this one has just begun." You felt a little unsure about the tone he had. "Gobber, crank up the weaponry. I want that forge working overtime, including that lazy dragon of yours."

"Grump ain't lazy. He's cautious. There's a difference."

"Blah, blah. Talk, talk, yakkity-yakkity. I've got work to do." Spitelout said and left.

"Sven, assemble the militia, prepare for an attack. Gustav, I want the A-Team patrolling in two-hour shifts, around the clock. Jahlin's team and (Y/n)'s family will be getting ready and training. If your team gets tired, go get either Zane or Jahlin and have them send out patrols as well."

"Yes, sir! Chief, sir!" Gustav said as Asta nodded next to him.

"You don't have to salute me, son." Gustav hurried off.

"We'll do our very best, Chief!" She promised, rushing off after him. You walked out beside Hiccup and Stoick.

"Ah, yes. When those Singetails come a-calling, Berk will give them an answer they'll never see coming." You and Hiccup looked at each other before he faced his father.

"You mean Dragon Flyers."

"Come again?"

"Dad, we can't blame the Singetails. They're being forced to fight. It's-it's the Flyers who-"

"Hiccup, the minute you start trying to separate one from the other, you're a dead man. We can't afford to limit ourselves or our people like that. The stakes are way too high, son. This is my territory now." You frowned as Stoick walked off. Hiccup didn't look happy about that. You grabbed his hand, squeezing it gently. He looked over at you and you gave him a reassuring smile. I don't know what to say to him. I don't like it either and I don't want to do it, but...what if Stoick is right?

Hiccup sighed and walked off on his own. You wanted to go after him, but you knew he needed time to think. You went to check on your family first. If he wasn't back after that, you'd go find him.

It was nearly sunset and Hiccup was nowhere to be found. You sighed as you flew over Berk. You didn't like any of this at all and you knew Hiccup felt the same way. You knew he needed time, but sometimes even if you knew you shouldn't, you just had to cut in. You needed to know he was alright.

"Okay, Nightshade, find Hiccup." She barked and began to track them. You found the two on a sea stack. You overheard Hiccup say,

"Not now, bud. Sorry. Just too much on my mind."

"I can see that." You said, landing there. Then you heard another voice.

"We all can." Arrow was there too.

"Whoa. What? How did you-"

"What? Find you? We may not live at Berk anymore, but the two of us can tell a Hiccup 'thinking' sea stack anywhere in the archipelago." Arrow said.

"And Nightshade can track, so..." You added with a soft smile. You both sat down on either side of him. "So, you wanna talk about it?"

"Not particularly."

"Well, I do," Arrow said.

"We both do." You agreed.

"It's not the Singetails' faults. They're being-"

"Made to do it. I know. We all know, Hiccup. That doesn't change the fact that it's happening. They drove us out of the Edge. They bullied us away from island after island. It doesn't matter if it's the dragon or the Flyer. Look, I don't wanna hurt dragons either, Hiccup. But in tough times, tough choices have to be made." Arrow said.

"Wow. You sound so much like-"

"A warrior?"

"My father."

"That's kinda the same thing."

"Yeah, I guess you're right." You frowned, letting the two talk even if you didn't like where it was going. Then, something changed. "Actually, yeah, Arrow, you are absolutely, positively right."

"Okay. Good.
