"YAH!" You swung your weapons at Hiccup, getting him to back up and reposition himself. He often had to dodge your attacks instead of block them. Your moves were too complex for him to keep track of and he never knew what you were going to do.
You and Hiccup were sparring in the dome. You'd asked him if he could help you practice and he'd gladly agree, saying he'd needed a break from his project. You honestly didn't mind that he wasn't telling you about it. It was his project and you could relate to wanting to keep things a secret, so you figured you'd just let him work and save the questions for when he was ready to share.
"Whoa!" Hiccup just barely dodged a blade to the face, but that gave you the perfect chance to take him down. You quickly pulled back and did a spin kick, knocking him down. He landed with a thud and a bit of a groan. You chuckled and held your hand out for him. He smiled at you and you both kept going.
"Give up yet? Or are you still looking to get your butt whooped?" You asked with a grin.
"Ha! I've got you right where I want you." He said even though you knew he was fibbing a little. You both kept fighting and you were able to do a back flip and dodge one of his attacks before running straight at him and getting ready for a final blow. He braced for it, but that was just what you wanted. You leaped into the air, doing a flip above him. He watched in shock. Just as you landed you turned and kicked him right in the back, knocking him over again. You grabbed him and flipped him before pinning him to the ground. You grinned at him.
"I think I've got you right where I want you, Hiccup." You bragged a bit, feeling pretty good about your victory. He grumbled a little before sighing in defeat, an easy smile on his face.
"Okay, okay, you win." You helped him up and gave him a kiss on the cheek.
"When will you learn that I always have a new trick to pull?" He laughed a bit, somewhat embarrassed.
"I don't know. I've felt so many of your 'new tricks' already!" You laughed at that as he laughed along with you. Once you both calmed down, you smiled at him.
"Thanks for helping me practice."
"Oh, yeah! O-of course! I'll always help you practice! Just, uh...can I stop being the training dummy?" You both laughed again as you put your weapons away and began to leave. Then, you both saw all the others approaching.
"You know, you and I should really train together again, (Y/n)," Arrow said. You rolled your eyes with a smile.
"Sure thing, Arrow."
"Hiccup, I've been looking all over for you. Johann is here and he wants-" Fishlegs began.
"Johann! Oh, great! Where is he?" Hiccup asked.
"Uh, at the dock," Fishlegs replied.
"Of course. The dock." Hiccup said, somewhat to himself.
"I'll come along." You offered.
"As usual." Arrow chuckled.
"Oh, unexpected. All you two do is hang out together. It's like we aren't even here." Snotlout complained.
"Was that jealousy, Snotlout? So not you." Arrow told him, grinning.
"I'm just making a point, Arrow. And a good one at that. So good that I don't even have to tell you to shut up, Arrow. ... So shut up, Arrow."
"You know, a strong, long-lasting relationship is a balancing act between work, friends, a stable home life, you know, the amount of jelly beans that you're eating," Tuff said as you and Hiccup mounted Nightshade and Toothless. You both took off, heading to the docks. "Yeah, fly off! We're just saying!"
"I can't apologize enough, Master Hiccup, for failing you on this endeavor. I wasn't able to procure your oil on this recent trip as I was otherwise engaged with a Northern Native..." Johann said. You looked over at Hiccup.
"Oil? Why do you need oil?"
"Oh, just a little something I've been tinkering with."
"Oh, right, your secret project." You teased.
"(Y/n)..."
"However, I am ecstatic to tell you that oil you seek can be found in the rarest of Sassafrass Albidum plants that grow only on the Isle of Thizzian, the location of which I have included for you in its description. I had hoped to procure it in the dark markets of Aberdine, but, as I mentioned, my trip took quite the strange turn." Johann said as Snotlout arrived.
"Hey, Johann, are you telling one of your famous stories again? I've got a spare few hours."
"A few hours would only begin to describe the adventures of my recent past. Wow! And I mean, wow."
"Oh, I don't actually care. I think you're boring." Fishlegs came over and saw the map Hiccup had.
"Ooh, what's that?"
"A map of an island that has something I need." Hiccup replied.
"Let me guess, the power couple is going on vacation. Well, bon voyage, muttonheads!" Snotlout shouted.
"Hiccup, we were supposed to begin the annual Dragon Census tomorrow morning," Fishlegs said, disappointed.
"Oh, I forgot about that, Fishlegs. But, hey we're only gonna be gone for a day or two. It's not like the dragons are going anywhere, right, Fishlegs?" You wanted to help, so you offered your own idea.
"Or I could go and get what you need while you stay here with Fishlegs and the others."
"What? No, I'd rather go myself and besides, it'd be nice to have two people getting the oil so we make sure that I get enough of it." You nodded, knowing that he had a good point.
"Forgetting important moments among friends and colleagues is the first sign of shifting priorities..." Tuff said.
"Thus leading to doubt creeping in, and the loss of emotional fortitude. I love when doubt creeps." Ruff added.
"What does that even mean?" Arrow asked.
"Don't blow people off." Snotlout replied.
"We're not..." Hiccup sighed. "Guys, we'll be back in two days. It's not like we're missing anything huge. Not that the Census isn't important." He said, trying to save himself.
"Ugh! Will you please just go already!" Snotlout yelled. You rolled your eyes.
"You know what? I'd love nothing more, Snotlout. Come on, we'd better get moving. The sooner we go, the sooner we're back." Hiccup nodded in agreement. You both hurried off to Thizzian Island. Once you got there, you began to look for the plants you needed.
"Johann didn't say how much oil per plant. The extraction process can be tricky. What do you think?" Hiccup asked. You chuckled.
"I think that sounds like a Fishlegs question. Then again, the twins do know some pretty random stuff. They probably had a third cousin who was a Sassafrass plant or something." You both laughed again. There was silence before you both spoke up at the same time.
"Do you think we should have stayed at the Edge?" You were both surprised, but then you both laughed slightly.
"Have we really been doing what they said? Ignoring them, not being team players?" Hiccup asked.
"No. I mean, I haven't been ignoring Snotlout more than I usually do." You joked.
"Ah! I just wanna make sure. That's the one thing I really don't want to do. But, at the same time, spending time with you, (Y/n), is important." You blushed and smiled at him. You gave him a hug and he hugged back.
"What was that for?"
"Just for being you. I love how sensitive you are. I love that you care. No matter what it is, you put your heart into it." He blushed and chuckled.
"Don't tell that to Stoick."
"Oh, I think he knows. Everyone knows. It's what makes you such a great friend, a great leader, and, um, a great boyfriend. But if you wanna head back..."
"No. No, no. I mean, they're fine. Just think about all the trouble they can get into without us being there, right?" You both pictured it. You could clearly see the twins getting into trouble. One idea was Ruff watching as Tuff ran at Snotlout with a club who was tied upside down hanging from a tree and screaming. You both laughed again at the idea.
"Well, as long as we're staying, what do you say we take a moonlit flight?" Hiccup said, twirling you around. You blushed, but you smiled, your heart pounding at the idea.
"I thought you'd never ask~"
You both went out flying together afterward. It was a beautiful night and the mood was perfect. You looked over at him as you both flew together. You recalled the night he'd confessed to you. We really do like flying at night, don't we?
As the flight went on, you both did twists and twirls and turns, gladly enjoying yourselves. It was sweet and romantic. It made your heart pound even more. Then, you got an idea. You grinned and flew closer to Hiccup. Nightshade could tell you had a plan and she chuckled a bit in her dragon-like way as she helped you get closer to him and Toothless.
You walked across her wing and Toothless' carefully. Hiccup watched, wondering what you were doing. You leaned down and gave him a peck on the lips. He attempted to savor it, but was a little dazed as you pulled back and whispered,
"You're it~" Nightshade dove down as you did a flip off of Toothless, she caught you and rushed ahead into a think layer of clouds. You both disappeared from their sight. You heard Hiccup laugh as he and Toothless sped up after the two of you, starting to search for you.
"Come on, bud! Let's get em'!" Toothless let out a below of agreement as they tried to track the two of you down. You both remained hidden in the clouds, Nightshade carefully slipping out for a few seconds each time just so you both could see where they were.
They had been behind you for a while. You both checked again, and suddenly they were gone. You grew nervous when they didn't show up again. You couldn't even hear them. You both stopped, coming out of the clouds into an open area surrounded by them.
"Hiccup?" You called. Nothing. You were about to call again when you were suddenly snatched off of Nightshade. You screamed at first and Nightshade roared in anger, ready to defend you until she saw you it was. You did too. Hiccup and Toothless laughed as he tossed you up and caught you in his arms. He kissed you and you were stunned. "Mph!" Of course, you melted into it after a moment.
Just as you started getting into it, he pulled back and grinned at you. You looked at him confused before he began to lean in again. You closed your eyes expecting another kiss, but instead, he whispered,
"...You're it~" Your eyes opened in shock just before he threw you into the air. You shrieked, surprised that he would just throw you, but Nightshade caught you. Hiccup and Toothless rushed on ahead as you saw him grin over his shoulder at you. You glared at him with a smirk.
"So that's how you want to play this, Haddock?" You said, mostly to yourself. "Nightshade, lure and capture." She growled with a grin at the idea, getting excited to cause some mischief. You both disappeared into the clouds again. Hiccup was relying on speed, but you were going to use that against him.
The two of them rushed ahead, but once Hiccup looked back and saw you weren't there, you made your move. Nightshade barked, popping out from the side and snapping at Toothless. Toothless and Hiccup yelped, changing direction to avoid you both. You grinned and did it again, herding them toward a nearby island that you knew was close by this point.
You both kept making them go whatever which way you wanted. Then, it was time for the final move. You stood up on Nightshade as you before disappeared into the clouds again. You balanced carefully and got ready.
Nightshade soon tossed you into the air as you both were soon above Hiccup and Toothless. As you hovered in the air for a few quick moments, Nightshade dove down and snatched Hiccup right off of Toothless' back. He shrieked in shock and surprise. You fell back down, landing on Toothless and taking over. Toothless roared in surprise, looking back at you. You grinned at him.
"Care to help me, Toothy? I think Hiccup needs to learn not to scare his girlfriend." You said, grinning evilly as he looked back at you, still hanging from Nightshades claws. He grew nervous.
"C-come on, (Y/n)! I-I was just j-joking around!" He tried to escape his fate, but you weren't letting him off so easily. Toothless laughed evilly in agreement with you. Hiccup's face fell. "Toothless, you traitor..." All three of you laughed at him as he pouted.
You went to the nearby island and you saw the perfect tree. It was very tall and just waiting to aid in Hiccup's punishment. Nightshade flew him over to it and dropped him on the highest branch in the tree that was sturdy enough and large enough to hold him. You all landed at the pond next to the tree, relaxing wherever you liked and leaving him up there.
"Hey! (Y/n)! Let me down!"
"No, I don't think I will." You cooed, leaning against Toothless as he curled around you while Nightshade had fun taking a relaxing dip in the water.
"(Y/n)! Come on, I was joking!"
"Eehhhh..." You said, pretending to think about it. "You're gonna have to do better than that."
"Come on, sweetheart..." You froze at what he just said, your face turning bright red.
"W-what did you just say?" His face burst out red too.
"I-I-I...I-I didn't say anything. W-what are you talking about?" He said with a nervous grin. You smiled at him, blushing still. You whistled for Nightshade and she got out of the water. She quickly shook herself off before going up and retrieving Hiccup from the branch. She flew him back down and the two dragons proceeded to chase each other around as you walked over to Hiccup. "Uh..." He said nervously. You kissed him and, after a moment, he returned the kiss.
When you both pulled away, you smiled at him, still blushing. You held him close, cuddling into his chest and just enjoying the feeling of his arms around you. "So...does this mean I'm not grounded?" He asked after about a minute or two. You chuckled at him, pulling back to look him in the eyes.
"You never really were." You both smiled and hugged once more before deciding it would be for the best if you both got back to the edge as soon as possible. When you got back, you both were shocked. There were Singetails everywhere! The island was burning and the others were in trouble.
"Hiccup! We have to help them!"
"Couldn't agree more! Come on!" You both dove into the fight. "Toothless, now!"
"Nightshade, blasts!" Both of them fired a few shots, chasing off some of the Singetails.
"Holy Hiccup!" Tuff exclaimed.
"I'm sorry, gang, we should have been here." Hiccup said.
"What gave it away? Was it the scorched Earth?" Snotlout retorted.
"Wait. Are those Flyers? Wait- How? When?" Hiccup asked, mostly to himself.
"Uh, Hiccup, maybe we can have this discussion later," Arrow told him.
"Agree, we need to defend the Edge! Let's move!" You called.
"All right! Air tactics and defense! Just like we practiced!" Hiccup announced.
"When did we practice that? We never practiced that!" Snotlout argued.
"Then it's a great time to learn!" Arrow said as you all dove into the fight. You all fought as best you could, but there wasn't much you could do. You were overwhelmed.
"Hiccup! We can't keep this up!" You called. Hiccup took a few seconds to think before making his choice.
"Fall back! Fall back!" You all retreated to a nearby sea stack that was large enough to hold all of you and your dragons. Meatlug was worried about Fishlegs. Apparently, he'd been shot down and was still somewhere on the island. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Easy, girl. We'll find him. Don't you worry."
"How are you gonna do that, Hiccup? Those Flyers are all over the place and trained. But you wouldn't have known that." Snotlout snapped.
"Wow, Snotlout. The truth will set you free, my arrogant brother." Tuff said. You cut in, upset that he was being so rude.
"How could he have known this was gonna happen, Snotlout!?"
"No, (Y/n). I deserve it. I shouldn't have left. They practically begged us to stay."
"That's pushing it a bit." Snotlout said.
"You know what I mean." You sighed.
"At least we're back now. That's the important thing."
"Not all of us." You both looked at Meatlug. You grew determined.
"Well, then how are we going to get all of us?" He looked at you in surprise. "We aren't leaving and we're not going to wait much longer. No matter how dangerous it is, we're going to find and rescue Fishlegs. And if anybody has a problem with that, they can take it up with me." You said, glaring at Snotlout a little.
"Whoa! What's with that look? I'm all for saving Fishface. Even if it was his fault he needed saving in the first place." You rolled your eyes.
"I'm with (Y/n). So, what's our next move?" Arrow asked.
"First, I'm going to see what I can make out from here with my spyglass. For now, we should all just rest as much as we can before getting ready to go in and get Fishlegs." You all nodded, glad that you had something to start with.
It was starting to get dark as you all waited to see what Hiccup could gather. The twins babbled on about what it meant to be truthful and untruthful and you ignored most of it. Soon, Hiccup walked over to Toothless and you knew he had a plan.
"Look, I think I know where Fishlegs is hiding. And I don't think that they've captured him."
"Can this be independently verified?" Tuff asked.
"Well, no. But if they had him, they wouldn't still be circling overhead. Look, it's getting dark and Toothless owns the night. Which means that we will have a tactical advantage. We have to find Fishlegs first even if it means losing the Edge. If we get separated, don't hang around and try taking these guys on your own. Meet up at Defenders of the Wing Island. Got it?" You all nodded, getting ready to go. "What is it, Snotlout?" Hiccup asked as Snotlout eyed him.
"Nothing. It's just, well, it's nice to have you back." You smiled a little at that.
"I just hope it wasn't too late." Hiccup replied.
"It isn't too late." You said, coming up beside him on Nightshade. "Now let's move."
"Right." You all took off. Arrow went in with Stormfly to get their attention. You and Hiccup waited to ambush the flyers that were chasing him. Toothless got one of them and you got the second.
"Like I said, you own the night, bud."
"And we run the skies together." You added. He smiled at you as the three of you surrounded the last one.
Soon, you saw the others with Fishlegs. You smiled, relieved. Arrow spotted them too.
"They got him! Yes!"
"Thank Thor." Hiccup sighed in relief.
"You can say that again." You agreed. You saw the leader on his red Singetail circle around you. You glared at him.
"What are we gonna do?" Tuff asked.
"Hiccup?" Fishlegs said.
"We gotta get out of here!" Tuff shouted. There were too many of them.
"Hiccup, we need to go, now!" Arrow said, starting to lead the others away. You looked at the burning Edge that all of you had built.
"Hiccup, there's nothing we can do. I'm sorry."
"Yeah... Me too." You all began to leave, but you saw Hiccup turn back. You were stunned.
"Hiccup!! What are you doing!?" He didn't respond and just kept going. You watched in fear until you saw him blast his own hut. You were stunned. What? Why would he do that? It was a question for later as he returned and you all hurried away.
Later, you all arrived on Defenders of the Wing island. You told Mala what had happened and she'd welcomed all of you instantly. You were very grateful to her for the
