You were hanging out in your hut, doing random chores and then moving on to random time passing activities. You were currently doodling in your sketchbook when Hiccup came in suddenly. He looked like something serious was happening. You knew to pay attention when he had that look on his face.

"Hiccup? What's going on?"

"We're needed by the Defenders of the Wing. We have to leave immediately." You nodded.

"Come on, girl!" Nightshade was already up and the three of you hurried down the stairs. The rest of the riders were outside. Hiccup hopped on Toothless and just like that, all of you were off to Defender of the Wing Island.

*At the island*

As you all arrived, the people below cheered for you. They were very relieved and thrilled to see all of you. You landed together and hurried over to Mala and Throk.

"Hiccup Haddock! Thank the ancients you received our message." Mala said.

"Mala. Throk. What happened? Is it Hunters?" Hiccup asked.

"No. Something much worse," Mala replied. She showed you an egg and you wondered why an egg was worse than Hunters.

"This would appear to be an egg-mergency. Or some might call it emergency egg-may." Tuff said. You looked at him in confusion.

"Did I miss something?" You asked Arrow.

"Yeah, Boar Latin." He grumbled in reply.

"Has something happened to Tuffnut?" Mala asked.

"Nope. This is pretty much a daily thing." Arrow answered once more. You all turned back to the egg.

"Is that-" Fishlegs began.

"An Eruptodon egg." Hiccup finished.

"Unlike other dragons, Eruptodons only produce a single egg in their lifetime. Our tribe has been waiting generations for our Great Protector to have an heir. And now, it has finally happened." Mala explained.

"So, this should be a time for celebration, shouldn't it?" Fishlegs said.

"If it were that simple." Mala sighed.

"An Eruptodon egg can only hatch under very special conditions," Throk added.

"The dragon is born of flame and its egg requires the life-giving lava of its ancestral nesting site, a cavern deep inside the Grand Volcano," Mala explained.

"So, what's it doin' out here?" Hiccup asked. Mala and Throk looked at each other sadly. They took you to the Great Protector and you saw how weak she was. You walked over to her with Throk.

"Oh, you poor thing..." You pet her gently. She grumbled at you, nuzzling your small hand as best she could. Then, she groaned in pain and Throk frowned.

"Easy girl. It's all right."

"The birth weakened our already aged Great Protector, so much so that she cannot fly to the sacred site," Mala told you all.

"We were able to spare the egg, but without proper nesting, it will not hatch." Throk finished.

"Our only option is to transport the egg ourselves before the lava rises and floods the cavern," Mala said as you all looked over the edge of the volcano down to where the cavern entrance lay. The lava exploded upward in towers, making Tuff jump.

"Whoa!"

"The future of our entire civilization rests on this egg's survival. If it fails to hatch, the Great Protector will not have an heir. And if there is no Eruptodon to eat the lava from the volcano, the island and our tribe is doomed." Mala said fearfully.

"Mala, we will deliver that egg into the volcano," Hiccup promised her.

"When you say 'we will', you actually mean 'you will', right?" You shot a glare at him. "Okay, great. Check you later."

"By the looks of the lava, we have a small window, but it should be enough time to get in and get out," Fishlegs stated.

"Exactly. You thinking what I'm thinking, Fishlegs?" Hiccup asked.

"Here it comes. Another Hicclegs lovefest." Snotlout groaned. You looked at him in confusion.

"What?"

"They've been doing this all day," Arrow told you. Suddenly, both of them said the same thing.

"I'll fly the egg down." They looked at each other in surprise.

"Uh, Hiccup, I think you mean I should fly the egg down because Gronckles are accustomed to lava," Fishlegs said.

"Well, that's true, yeah, but a Night Fury has the distinct speed advantage, don't you think?" Hiccup said. Arrow and Snotlout looked surprised by this and you could feel the tension rising between the two.

"Gentlemen. Time is waning. Hiccup and the Night Fury will fly the egg to the cavern." Mala decided. You felt uneasy at that. You didn't like the thought of Hiccup flying into an active rising volcano.

"Right. Yes. Okay." Hiccup agreed, kind of thrown off by the decision.

"What just happened?" Arrow asked.

"I have no idea, but Hicclegs just got very interesting." Snotlout replied.

"Please stop calling them that." You groaned quietly. Mala and Throk gave Hiccup some armor for the trip.

"Our armor is coated with a layer of heat-resistant Eruptodon saliva," Mala told him. He groaned in disgust at the ingredient.

"It should help protect against the effects of the volcano."

"And, speaking of heat, Gronckle Iron tail fin." Fishlegs wasn't exactly happy upon hearing that. Hiccup tried to make amends, but there was no time for it. "Uh, Fishlegs, look-" They guided him away.

"The sacred cavern is located on the south side of the volcano's interior. May the spirits of our fallen warriors guide your wings, Hiccup Haddock." Throk said.

"Okay, uh, I guess all I need now is the egg."

"The egg is my responsibility. I'm going with you." Mala said, carrying the egg in a leather satchel.

"My Queen, let me go instead." Throk insisted.

"No, Throk. A Queen must always be willing to risk her life for her people." Mala replied. They went to get on Toothless, but you couldn't help it.

"Wait!" You ran over to Hiccup and latched onto him with a hug. He was a little surprised, but he hugged back. "Be careful, please." He nodded.

"I will. I promise." You gave him a sweet but nervous smile before letting go of him and stepping back.

You watched as they descended. You bit your lip, nervous and anxious. Suddenly, something happened and Toothless' tail caught of fire. They were able to make it back up, but they had a bit of a rough landing. You rushed over with Throk right beside you.

"Hiccup!"

"My queen." Arrow hurried over too.

"Hiccup, what happened?"

"Quickly. Replace the Night Fury's tail. You must go back." Throk insisted.

"I don't have another one. I could try to make one out of-" Mala cut him off.

"No. There's no time." She showed you all the egg and part of it was blackened now.

"Oh, no..." Fishlegs said.

"I feared this would happen. The egg has spent too much time outside the nesting site. It requires the life-giving lava. And if it isn't delivered soon, it will become hard as stone. Then..." She trailed off.

"Then, what?" Hiccup asked.

"It will never hatch. And it will die." Throk finished. You all went back down to the village so Mala could calm her people.

"There is no need for panic! We must stay calm." The Great Protector collapsed with a groan. Throk went over to her with some herbs.

"These herbs will help you regain your strength, Great Protector." He said. Nightshade padded over and nuzzled her gently. You smiled. She really did have such a big heart. You walked over and Throk met your gaze.

"I think there might be some things I can do to help her. I am trained in medicine and healing."

"If there is anything you and your dragon can do, then do it." You nodded.

"Nightshade, keep her company. I'll be back soon. Throk, you said you had a place where your people treat dragons the first time we were all here. Take me there. I'll be able to make something with the herbs you have." He nodded and led you away.

You worked on making stronger, more refreshing and reviving mixtures. Luckily, you were able to create something and you had another idea. You headed out and you saw the whole group headed back to the volcano. You hurried over to them.

"(Y/n), have you made something to help our Great Protector?" Throk questioned.

"Yes, and I have an idea to make it even better for her to eat."

"Come with us. We're headed back to the volcano. We must hurry." He said and you nodded, hurrying after them.

Soon, Fishlegs, Mala, and Hiccup were all down in the caverns. You waited anxiously for them to return. You drew your attention away from your stress by treating the Great Protector. She was grateful for your help, nuzzle you gently. You smiled at her before going back to watch for Hiccup and the others. Arrow and Throk were there watching too while the twins drove Snotlout insane with their 'Boar Latin'.

"Okay, that lava is getting a little too close to the entrance," Arrow said.

"Not to worry, Arrow Hofferson. Queen Mala knows this volcano better than anyone on the island." Throk replied. Arrow, however, didn't seem to like that answer.

"They've been down there for a long time." He announced. You nodded.

"Arrow has a point. It's...it's been too long. Something isn't right."

"Yes. The lava is rising quickly. They should've returned by now." Throk agreed, looking again.

"That settles it. We're going in." Arrow said. The lava burst up again, causing the three of you to jump back.

"I agree. But how? Those explosions are too dangerous and getting worse." Throk said.

"And none of our dragons can make it down safely, with or without us." You added.

"If we just had a way to get down safely without dragons." Arrow theorized.

"Actually, we might have a lan-pay. *Snort*" Tuff said, coming over with Ruff. They made Snotlout groan loudly in frustration. You sighed.

"Okay, what is it?" You asked.

"We shall be back! We need to retrieve something from Berk!" Ruff said as they hopped on Barf and Belch.

"Come on! Let's go!" Tuff said and they hurried away.

"Now here's to hoping they get back in time." You sighed.

"And they have a plan that will actually work," Arrow added, equally concerned about it.

*Once the twins were back*

They came back with the diving bell. You were confused at first, but then you began to see the possibilities. Snotlout, however, didn't seem to agree.

"The Diving Bell was your big 'lan-pay'? You flew all the way to Berk for a big hunk of metal to dangle over the fire? Why not bring back a frying pan!? How umb-day are they? Haha! *Snort*" Gods above, save us all.

"It's uncanny. There's no trace of an accent." Tuff commented.

"To talk that eloquently, he must be at least a quarter boar."

"Maybe two-fifths. He is hairy in strange places."

"Hey!" You ignored the three, looking at it with Throk.

"Actually, I believe this could work. If we were to invert it and then coat it in Eruptodon saliva. It won't last long but should be enough to reach the cavern, find them, and raise them to safety. I'll get to work."

"I'll help you. After all, I'm going with you."

"What? No, (Y/n), I'll go. We need you up here in case-"

"Arrow." He stopped as you said his name. "I'm going after them." You glanced back at the others and spoke quietly after saying that. "Throk's mission is to get Queen Mala to safety. For me...it's the same, but with Hiccup." Arrow's eyes widened, but he looked down with a heavy sigh. He grabbed your shoulders gently, looking you in the eye.

"Be careful, okay?" You smiled and nodded.

"I will."

After renovating the diving bell, Barf and Belch lowered you and Throk down. A blast of lava hit it, but everything held luckily. You both held on, holding your breaths and hoping that everything would continue to hold.

"Grace of the ancients. The Eruptodon saliva worked." Throk said.

"Yes. But we need to move faster. We're running out of time." You said worriedly.

"Guys, let's pick up the ace-pay," Tuff told Bark and Belch. They moved faster and then they began to swing you both over. You got ready, but the chain snapped and you ended up in the lava. You shrieked.

"HOLD ON!" You both braced yourselves as the other dragons tried to get close enough to rescue you. They couldn't, however, and you were only just beginning to feel the heat. You looked to Throk. "What are we going to do?" He frowned, not having an answer.

You both tried to think, but the heat was making it impossible. You wobbled on your feet after a few minutes. It was getting to be too much. You could hardly keep your eyes open.

"T...Throk...I-I...c-can't take this heat much longer..." You fell and he caught you.

"Don't close your eyes, (Y/n). We must stay awake for Hiccup Haddock and Queen Mala." Throk told you. You frowned.

"M-my...H-Hiccup..." You whimpered. "C-can't...l-let him...g-get hurt..." You breathed, barely able to speak at this point. Throk frowned.

"(Y/n)..." You looked at him through lidded eyes. "If we get out of this, you must tell him the truth. You and Hiccup Haddock are meant to be a team. That much I'm sure even our ancients can see."

"I...I..." Another blast rocked the diving bell and Throk held you tighter to protect you and steady the both of you.

"It will be alright. It must be." He assured you. "You two will have many years together. I know it. This will not end here! I promise you, (Y/n) (L/n)!"

After a few more minutes, the four of them finally rushed out of the caverns. They turned as the others pointed you and Throk out to them from their view at the top of the volcano. They hurried to help you and Throk gave your limp body to Hiccup. He held you tightly and called out to Throk.

"Come on, Throk!" Another blast cut him off.

"Go! That Gronckle clearly cannot hold us all. My mission was to get my queen to safety." Mala looked sad and Throk gave her an equally sad smile. Then, you looked up, seeing a big shadow. You smiled.

"Hiccup..." He looked up to and all of you smiled.

"By the ancients..." Throk breathed.

"By the ancients! Yes!" Mala said as the Great Protector lifted Throk and the diving bell out of the lava to safety. You all followed after them and Hiccup held you close as he slid off of Meatlug.

"(Y/n), are you alright." You nodded in his arms.

"I will be, I promise."

"You have gotta stop doing these crazy things for us all the time." He said, helping you sit down so you wouldn't fall if you tried to stand.

"I don't do it for everybody all the time, you know."

"What do you mean it's not for everybody?" You gave him a shy smile.

"It's for you." He looked stunned before he started to blush. Then, he smiled.

"I guess I can't argue. I would do the same for you." He hugged you before getting up and going over to Mala. "The egg is in good hands, Mala."

"Exactly what I was gonna say." Fishlegs agreed as they walked away with smiles on their faces.

"It's nice to see things are finally back to normal," Arrow said.

"Whatevs. I sort of liked the new Hicclegs. The other kind is otally-tay oring-bay." You rolled your eyes and Nightshade came over to check and see if you were alright. Meanwhile, you thought about what Throk said. Is he right? You looked toward Hiccup. Are we really meant to be a team...like that?
