You were at Berk with Hiccup. You had insisted on coming with to check in on your family. He'd sent everyone else back to the Edge to wash their dragons.
"Hard to believe it's the middle of the night." Hiccup said next to you and Gobber.
"I love the midnight sun. Constant sunlight for two weeks. Our most productive time of year." Stoick added. Suddenly, a fight broke out between two Vikings.
"Aye, for the first week. But we're in day eight, when things can start to get a wee bit crazy." Gobber said as Stoick had to go break up the fight. "Lack of sleep. It gets to everybody eventually. Poor Gothi, she's been babbling for days now." You saw Gothi drawing huge symbols into the dirt, looking almost like she was being haunted.
"Yeah. I see what you mean." Hiccup replied.
"That's unsettling." You added.
"And Sven's worn out half his flock on the dance floor." Gobber continued as you saw Sven dancing with one of his sheep. You chuckled at that.
"But that's pretty normal for him, though." Hiccup countered.
"Yeah, you're right. Bad example. Nice move. But lack of sleep gets to us all eventually. Even you young'uns." Gobber told you both.
"That's why I sent Arrow and the others back to the Edge to do the simplest job possible. Wash their dragons. There's no way they could screw that up."
"And that's why I came to check on the guys. Carl has passed out once already, but the others are doing alright. Well...except for Ash."
"What's wrong with Ash?" Hiccup asked. Then, you heard an ungodly shout.
"WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY!?" You sighed heavily.
"He's very short on his temper. And that's my cue to calm him down. I'll be back!" You called before rushing off to stop him from killing somebody.
It took a whole hour to calm Ash down and after his rage fit, he had passed out. Zane had offered to take him home, but you had helped, knowing Ash was heavier than he looked thanks to his muscle mass. You both were able to get him into bed and Carl was also passed out in the house. You both made sure he was okay too before you and Zane parted ways, going to find who you each were looking for.
Once you found Hiccup, you saw how frustrated he looked. You went over to him to see what was wrong. He didn't notice you until you were right next to him.
"Hiccup, are you okay?" You asked. He jumped a little upon hearing your voice.
"U-uh, yeah. I'm fine." You raised an eyebrow at him. He sighed before his gaze fiercened again. "We need to get out there and settle the score with Viggo. I don't need permission from my dad to do that." He grumbled.
"Hiccup, your father is right. We shouldn't go after Viggo because we're angry at him. We need to focus on the greater purpose here." He looked upset.
"Let's just get back to the Edge." You flinched at the coldness of his tone. This isn't like you...
"Fine." You both hopped on your dragons and headed off. Hiccup ranted to Toothless, pulling ahead of you.
"And you know what, Toothless? Why am I even askin' for permission? It's my war against Viggo. My dad just doesn't understand." You sighed.
"Hiccup, you know I can still hear you, right-?" Suddenly, a loud call pulled both of you out of it. Your dragons wavered, clearly unsettled by the noise.
"Whoa! What is it, bud? Sounds like a dragon in trouble. I must be tired. I almost missed that."
"Let's check it out." You both headed down, seeing wrecked ships as you flew in closer and landed.
"Dragon Hunters. High alert, bud."
"Nightshade, tail up." She growled and got her darts ready.
"Alright, watch my back." You nodded. You both looked around until you spotted the dragon.
"Hiccup, over there!" You both headed over, being careful as you got closer. Hiccup went in to see what was wrong with the squirming dragon.
"Hey there, little guy. It's okay. Whatever happened, it's over now. We're here to help you. Is there something wrong with your wing? I'm sure we can fix that." Nightshade suddenly growled toward the bushes. You frowned.
"What is it, girl?" Then, more of them rushed out and the first one got up, growling and snapping at you both.
"Whoa! You're not hurt!"
"Hiccup, it's an ambush!" You exclaimed. Toothless got ready to fire.
"Whoa, Toothless! No, bud. They might just be scared or defending their friend." Suddenly, one came at Hiccup from behind.
"LOOK OUT!" You took out your weapons and yelled a battle cry, swinging them around. The dragon backed off and retreated back to his friends. Nightshade and Toothless were able to scare the pack off and you sighed in relief.
"Thanks for having my back." Hiccup said to you.
"Yeah, don't mention it."
"Clearly, my reaction time isn't what it should be." He began to walk off toward where they'd disappeared.
"Where are you going?" You asked. Toothless grumbled at him, seemingly already knowing the answer to that question.
"Oh, come on. You know we're going after those dragons. I mean, we have to help them. So work with me here, all of you, and keep your eyes open." You sighed heavily and followed after him, the dragons right behind you.
You walked for a while and you decided to try talking to Hiccup once more about his grudge against Viggo. You had an idea of what to say to him. Whether or not he would listen was up for debate.
"Hiccup, while we have a second, I want to ask you something." He turned to you.
"Really? Well, uh, okay. What is it?"
"What's the real reason you're so mad at Viggo?" You asked. He looked surprised. He went quiet for a moment.
"He went after innocent people, (Y/n). It wasn't right. He can't just threaten all of Berk and get away with it!" He snapped suddenly. You were surprised by his amount of anger. He seemed to realize he'd shouted at you and he looked away. "I-I'm sorry, I just...I can't let him get away with it."
"Hiccup, this...grudge is dangerous."
"What do you mean? I don't have a grudge, I just want to make things right! And I don't need permission from my dad to do it. Viggo will pay for what he did." You paused. You could see it when he couldn't. You knew who he was reminding you of.
"You know, you're starting to sound a lot like Leon." You told him, your tone showing your displeasure. He stopped, looking at you in shock. You simply gazed back at him before continuing on, not giving him the chance to respond. He needs to start thinking clearly.
Soon, you made it to a canyon. You didn't like the looks of it and neither did your dragons. They both growled at the sight of it. You pet Nightshade to calm her down.
"Yeah, I know, it's pretty tight. We better go around it." Hiccup said. Nightshade suddenly growled again, turning around and roaring at something behind you all. You saw the pack was back and had led you here on purpose. "Oh, what the-!?" They snapped at you all.
"Hiccup, we need to go!"
"Okay, so this is what you were worried about! Look, guys. They haven't really done anything." They started firing at you all.
"Now they've done something!" You retorted. "Nightshade, fire!" She blasted a streak of blue fire at them and they hopped back, avoiding it.
"How many of these guys are there?" They just kept coming.
"I don't know about you, but I'd rather not hang around here!" You called. Hiccup turned.
"Looks like it's the canyon!"
"Then hurry up!" You shouted running inside with Hiccup and Toothless right behind you and Nightshade. After you were inside, you paused. Hiccup looked up.
"Canopy's too thick to fly out of here." The dragons followed after you. Toothless got ready to fire, but Hiccup stopped him again.
"No, Toothless. Let me try something." He took out his Dragon Blade. "Let's see what you guys think of this. There you go. Everyone loves the Dragon Blade. See, we're just trying to help you, okay?" They attacked again.
"Hiccup look out!"
"Oh, for the love of- Toothless!" Toothless protected him and you all quickly tried to escape. Toothless blasted the entrance and the rocks fell, blocking them out and keeping you all inside. "Alright, I guess not everybody likes the Dragon Blade."
You grumbled and walked over to help him up. He accepted your help and you crossed your arms at him. He shrugged, giving a sheepish and very nervous smile back.
"I don't think these guys are trainable, Hiccup!" You snapped.
"Yeah, I'm starting to notice that too..."
"Only just now starting?" You questioned.
"Okay, okay! I get it! Let's get off this island. But to do that, we need a way out of here first. Come on. Only one way to go now." You walked side by side as the dragons trailed behind you both. They kept on high alert while you and Hiccup kept your eyes open for a way out.
Suddenly, a fireball landed behind all of you. Nightshade and Toothless roared, leaping ahead as Hiccup grabbed you, reacting fast.
"WHOA!"
"RUN!" He yanked you along by your arm before it exploded, throwing you both forward. He shielded you with his body, landing hard on his back to cushion your own fall. Hiccup rolled you both over, pushing himself up but accidentally caging you underneath him.
Your eyes met as you both blushed at the position you were in. Hiccup quickly tried to break to tension. He cleared his throat and asked,
"A-are you okay?"
"Y...yeah. I'm okay." You replied after a moment. "Are...are you?" He nodded.
"Y-yeah! Yep! All good here! Eheh..." He stuttered, answering quickly.
"We should, um...w-we should probably get going." You said. He nodded quickly and helped you up. You tripped, falling into him as he caught you. You looked up at him before your face burst out red. "S-sorry!"
"N-no, it's...fine." You both looked at other for a moment, before you quickly cleared your thoughts.
"L-let's go."
"Y-yeah, right..." You kept going and soon, you made it to a dead end. "Great. Dead end." You huffed in exhaustion as well. You saw gear, weapons, and bones scattered on the ground.
"Well, I see we found the dinner table." You said grimly. Hiccup picked up a bent sword.
"You know, I'm startin' to think the Dragon Hunters were the ones being hunted." You looked up through the canopy.
"Hiccup! The canopy thins out here!" You exclaimed.
"Aha! There's our way out." He mounted Toothless as you got on Nightshade. "Let's fly."
"You don't need to tell me twice!" You both took to the air together and Toothless blasted a hole through the thinning canopy to give you all a way out.
"We're gonna make it!" Suddenly, the dragons attacked again, firing at you both.
"Maybe not!"
"Whoa!" You dodged their fire, but then, they left all of a sudden.
"Wait, they're leaving?" Nightshade turned and roared in alarm. You turned and shrieked.
"HICCUP! THERE'S ANOTHER!!" He turned and you both rushed to get out of the way as a huge green one appeared. He turned and roared at all four of you. You covered your ears and so did Hiccup. The smaller ones launched out and latched onto the bigger one's wings.
"They were herding us towards the big guy the whole time!"
"Yeah, I got that! Let's get out of here!" You all tried to escape, but the parade of fire made it impossible to get away. Suddenly, Hiccup was hit. He fell, yelling for Toothless. Toothless got hit too.
"NO!" You and Nightshade dove after them, but then, you got hit in the back and fell off. You blacked out as you fell into a tree before hitting the ground with a thud.
*10 minutes later*
You groaned as you woke up. You were in a cave lit by a torch. You felt something wet glide across your face.
"Gah!" You saw Nightshade as she barked and nuzzled you. "Thanks, girl."
"Thank the gods you're awake already." You saw Hiccup beside a piece of paper on the ground. Toothless was next to him. "Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yeah. Just a little sore, but nothing I won't sleep off."
"Good. I was trying to think of some way to get away from these Shadow Wings."
"Shadow Wings?" You asked.
"Yeah. I figured we had to call them something." You nodded. You knelt down next to him and looked over his plans. There wasn't much there. "...I have no ideas."
Suddenly, a blast sounded above you all and some dust fell down from the roof of the cave. Toothless sneezed, messing up the patterns of the smaller Shadow Wing pieces. Hiccup looked at you as you both got the same idea.
"That's it!" You said together.
"Toothless, you are brilliant!" Hiccup praised. Nightshade whined.
"You are too, girl." You told her. You and Hiccup talked over everything and you both got ready to go. Before you could leave, Hiccup caught your wrist. You turned, wondering why he was stopping you. "Hiccup?" He frowned, looking away for a moment. "Hiccup, what is it-?"
"I'm sorry." You paused.
"What?" He looked at you again, looking very apologetic.
"I'm sorry I've been so hung up on Viggo. You're right, I am getting way too upset over it. I should've expected that Viggo would pull dirty tricks to get what he wants. And...you were right before. I was starting to sound like Leon and that's the last thing I want. Especially after all that happened with you and him and I...I just..." You placed a finger on his lips, stopping his tangent.
"Hiccup, it's okay to get angry, but wanting revenge is what will drag you down. But, just know that whenever you need to blow off some steam, I'm here for you. I...I don't like seeing you like this. I just want you to smile again. A real one. You and I have both been really stressed and tense lately. It's not good for us or anybody else. Besides, I don't mind spending day after day with you. That alone makes me feel so much better. I just hope...you can say the same for me."
Hiccup smiled as you finished. He cupped your cheek, a warm glow in his eyes. You smiled back at him, happy to see a real smile on his face again. One meant just for you.
"I can. I always could." You hugged him and he returned it happily. You pulled away after a short moment.
"Now, let's do this." He nodded.
"Right."
You both rushed off, catching your own share of the Shadow Wings. Soon, you and Nightshade were off the hook. You hopped into the saddle.
"Come on, we need to find Hiccup and Toothless." You both took to the air. You soon saw the two trying to shake off the big one. You both rushed in to help. With the combined effort, you were able to escape. You celebrated your victory as you all flew back to the Edge.
"Yes!" Hiccup cheered.
"We made it!" You cheered along.
"I couldn't have done it without you, (Y/n)!" You smiled at him. Your heart lifting a little.
"Yeah. Same to you, Hiccup." You both smiled at each other before you kept going, eventually and finally making it back.
"Where is everybody? And why aren't these dragons clean?" You both looked in and saw everybody passed out in a heap together at the bottom of the trap door. "Of course, everybody gets to sleep but us. Typical." Then, Toothless pushed Hiccup in on top of them. "Hey!" You snorted, giggling to yourself. Then, Nightshade shoved you in as well. You yelped as you fell on top of him. He caught you. You would've been more embarrassed, but both of you were exhausted. You just sighed and laid your head on his chest.
"*Yawn*...Night, Hiccup." He yawned too, his arms tightening around you, holding you close as he nuzzled his face into your hair.
"Thanks, bud." He called up quietly to Toothless before the door shut. He cuddled with you as you both began to drift off. "...Sweet dreams...(Y/n)..." He whispered. You yawned again.
"Sweet...dreams..." You murmured back, your voice barely audible. You let yourself admit one last thing before you passed out in his arms. I love you...
