"So how was school guys?" It was the next day and the Roger family was sitting down for some quality dinner, while Natasha did her daily interrogation of her children to make sure they are doing okay.

"School is the most hellish place on Earth," Sarah answered. "Teachers don't really care about what they are doing, and kids my grade are just idiots"

"So you had a good day then?" Natasha smiled.

"You know mother your idea of good and my idea of good are two completely different things," she said. "But on brighter news, I got this," She pulled a necklace out of her sweater. "Isn't it pretty,"

"Wait a minute that's real gold," Natasha said as Sarah handed the necklace to her. "This is more expensive than anything your father has ever given to me!"

"Hey I get you nice gifts," Steve defended. "you loved your wedding ring."

"I didn't say I didn't love it," Natasha said. "I am just saying this necklace is expensive." Steve frowned and looked at Sarah.

"Sarah, what did we tell you about accepting gifts from Elliot?" Steve said.

"You said it was wrong and I could no longer accept them." She answered not fazed at all.

"So why do you have this?" He asked.

"Dad you said not to accept things from Elliot, well this isn't from Elliot." She said.

"How many people are in love with you? I honestly don't know how they could see around your oh so charming personality." James rolled his eyes.

"Don't hate because I'm better than you James," She shook her head. "Not everyone can be as fabulous as me,"

"Sarah where did you get this from?" Steve pressed stopping the argument from erupting from the two siblings.

"Hugh gave it to me, said it's the necklace of love, I think his father gave it to his mother or something like that, he asked me to wear it." She said.

"This is Maria's?" Natasha asked holding it up. "Sam has nice taste."

"I have nice taste too!" Steve said before sighing. "You have to return it Sarah you can't keep it."

"Why not? It was a gift."

"It's just like the beach house that Elliot tried giving to you, it's wrong."

"Dad it makes them happy giving me gifts, do you want me to end their happiness."

"Yes."

"That's just wrong." Sarah shook her head.

"I will call Maria and she can bring Hugh over, I am almost sure Maria doesn't know he took this." Natasha sighed. "A shame though it's a beautiful necklace."

"Natasha," Steve said. "Don't get it in her mind that she can keep it."

"I was not, I was simply commenting." She defended. "You have a stick up your-"

"NAT!" Steve said stopping her before she could finish.

"What? Oh my gosh, Steve, I was going to say butt. Geez, you have zero chill."

"Please never say chill again mom," James shook his head. "You are way too old to be talking like that."

"Did you just call me old?" Natasha questioned. "I am NOT old." She shook her head mumbling.

"So how was your day James?" Steve asked moving on to a much calmer topic.

"It was okay I guess, nothing really happened." He shrugged casually. "I wish something would happen, I am losing my mind just a bit."

"Well, maybe you start doing something at school to make it more interesting."

"Dad, you sound like my counselor" James groaned. "She's been trying to make me start making decisions and I just don't want to do that."

"It's important to have a plan James," Natasha said. "You are going to be a senior next month."

"See here's the thing, I don't want to make plans, and you guys are giving me major deja vu," he said. "Besides no matter what I do I am always gonna be living in the shadows."

"Of who?" Steve questioned.

"You!" James said quickly. "Dad you are Captain America, people have all these expectations for me, I don't want to let anyone down."

"You shouldn't care about other people, don't even care about what they think of you. James, you are not your father, and that's a good thing," Steve looked at Natasha confused, almost offended. "Will you stop, not everything is about you," She hissed at her husband who held his hands up in defeat, Sarah laughing at her father. "My point is, James you are your own person, no one should expect anything from you, and if they do, well call me up and I'll deal with it myself."

"No no no, I'd rather not have to deal with a murder investigation on top of an application for college." he sighed. "But thank you,"

"See there's the spirit." She smiled "Okay let's eat before the food gets colder than your father when he was in ice."

"Natasha!"

Natasha had invited the Wilson's over after dinner so Sarah could return the necklace and at the moment they were about to arrive at the house.
"I can't believe you gave away my necklace," Maria said, her head resting on the car chair.

"I can't believe I have to come along," Nicole said rolling her eyes.

"I am sorry mom, I wanted to give her something nice," Hugh said with a sigh. "Elliot is always giving her nice things."

"Elliot is a Stark," Maria said. "Baby you don't have to give a girl fancy items for them to like you."

"But Sarah likes Elliot and he gives her these things." He tried to defend himself. "I just want her to like me."

"Hey bud, if she doesn't like you for you then she doesn't deserve you," Sam said to his son. "Besides think of it this way," Sam smiled. "At some point, Sarah will see how kind and sweet you are and notice that Elliot doesn't treat her the same."

"And if she doesn't?"

"Well." Before he could finish his sentence Maria started speaking.

"Then you will find someone who appreciates you for you," She smiled over to her son through the rearview mirror. They came close and saw that the Rogers were all outside. As they pulled into the driveway, Nicole jumped out, ignoring the angry calls of her parents for getting out before the car was parked.

"Hey Nicole-" James started

"Do you have food?" She asked walking past him into his house. James frowned and followed after her before she could destroy the kitchen. Natasha stood up from the steps where she sat with Steve and raised an eyebrow at Maria as she walked to her. Steve and Sam stepped aside to talk.

"I don't know what I am going to do with her," Maria said. "Hi, Natasha."

"Maria, I am sorry you had to drive all the way out here." She turned to Sarah, "Sarah has something to return."

"It's fine we were out and on our way home anyway." She said. "And I am sure Hugh needs to apologize." She gave her son a slight push forward and Sarah held out the gold necklace.

"Heres your necklace back Aunt Maria," Sarah sighed. "I didn't know it was yours."

"It's okay Sarah."

"You should really keep a better eye on your stuff," Sarah said and Natasha whacked the back of her head. Sarah glared over at her mother before Marai spoke again.

"Hugh, don't you have something to say?"

"Yeah, Sarah I am sorry I gave you something you couldn't keep. I am sorry I lied to you," Hugh sighed. "I just wanted you to have something nice. I wanted you to...to like me" he scratched the back of his head.

"You don't have to give me anything Hugh, I like you very much right now."

"You do?" He asked surprised.

"Well, of course, you're my best friend." She smiled and Hugh, despite the disappointment of being called a friend, smiled back at her. "We good?"

"Of course." He nodded.

"Great now remember I don't raise a thief," Maria said looking down at her son. "And the next time you take my generally you better have a good reason."

"Are you saying I am not a good reason?" Sarah asked acting very offended.

"I am saying you are a bad influence." She said to the girl. "You are too much like your mother."

"What does that me?" Natasha asked with a raised eyebrow. "I am not a bad influence."

"Cause you weren't the one who convinced me to switch all of Nick's clothes for Star Wars robes cause he looked like the guy from Star wars."

"You didn't have to do it! And you had to admit it was funny!"

"You two are weird," Sarah said rolling her eyes. "Now if you'd excuse me I am going to go get some cake before Nicole eats it all, come on Hugh."

"Maria want some cake?" Natasha asked already walking into her house.

"why not." The two women walked inside and closed the front door behind them.

"I can't believe they just locked us out!" Sam called out trying to open the door, but they had lock it. Steve stood there not at all shocked.

"Yeah, you get used to it."

"The disrespect," Sam muttered, Steve only rolled his eyes. This was not the first time this has happened, and he knew it wouldn't be the last. He was sure glad he didn't have a short temper and loved his family very much. If he didn't with the number of pranks Natasha pulls he's probably would have had a heart attack. But it's okay, he wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
