The next morning, the trio that had sneaked in the previous night was sitting quiet and terrified. Eunha sat between Jisung and Jeongin (relationship formalities... more like a fake one), and Jisung shifted away from her, uncomfortable and afraid if she would turn him into an actual squirrel. The title was more than enough for him; he didn't want to be an actual animal, for god's sake!
Hyunjin and Felix, who were beside Jisung, wordlessly provided him with emotional support and sympathy. The trio was equally afraid.
Chan noticed that, and he questioned, "Guys? Why are you so quiet?"
"We're saving our energy for the chemistry class," Felix responded.
"Oh? What's with the terrified look?" Minho asked.
"We had a bad dream," Hyunjin blurted out.
"All three of you? Together?" Seungmin narrowed his eyes at them.
Jisung gulped, "Yes... It's called deja vu."
"That's not what it's called," Changbin remarked.
"Shh, lemme save my energy," Hyunjin spoke, stealing glances at Eunha. Jeongin sat confused, so he elbowed Eunha in the gut, and she turned to glare at him.
"Did something happen? What did you do to them?" he asked in a hushed voice.
"Nothing... except that we have a new pet or something. It's small and annoying, and I might dispose of it soon," she shrugged.
"Wha- since when? I thought we were a couple," Jeongin tried to stifle his chuckle at her face morphing into a grimace.
"Vanish," she spat, and turned to look at the others around the table. Seeing that everyone looked skeptical of the trio, she sighed and got up.
As soon as she made the slightest movement to get up, the trio screeched, "Ahhh!"
"Felix! You weren't even scared of her!" Hyunjin whisper-shouted at the Aussie.
The freckled boy shot back, "I am not! I'm just giving you guys company."
"Then fucking stand up!"
Felix abruptly stood up. For no reason.
The others stared at him, and Minho questioned, "What's up with you?"
"I'm not scared!" Felix yelled.
"Uh, good? Want me to clap for you?" Seungmin quirked an eyebrow.
Eunha, who had just stood up, stared incredulously at the freckled boy, saying, "You're not scared?"
"Um, scared? What are we missing out on?" Changbin questioned, puzzled.
"Be afraid of me, human. Just like those two petty scaredy-cats. Look at them," she pointed at Hyunjin and Jisung, "They're still quivering in fear. Wouldn't your pretty little face look adorable when you're scared of me?"
"Hot," Jeongin blurted out.
"No, this is corny," Minho scrunched up his nose, "What kind of poly relationship are you all in? I mean, not judging, but..."
"We're not!" Jeongin defensively acted up, banging his hand on the table and standing up, "She's mine!"
Everyone, including Eunha, stared at Jeongin, agape. He was unapologetically standing beside her, and possessively, he grabbed her arm and spat, "I don't share."
"...What happened to him?" Chan blinked twice, "Did we teach him too much? I thought he was only flirting and all but... he seems serious."
"Please!" Jeongin rolled his eyes, "I know much more than just flirting."
Minho hooted, "I can't believe how proud I am right now."
Eunha, who was just witnessing the chaos unfold, looked at Jeongin from the side -- his side profile was undeniably good, she wasn't going to lie. The way those black locks of hair unevenly fell on his forehead and framed his face, and that next-to perfect nose was angled just right. And, while he was serious, the way his eyes narrowed under those lashes, and his lips stretched-
She blinked; why was she even noticing these things...?
And, as per the Deviless' very average defense mechanism, she yanked her arm off his hold, and muttered incoherently, "Stay away!"
Hyunjin and Jisung squeaked and shivered as she raised her voice.
"I don't understand this dynamic," Changbin expressed, "Aren't you two a thing, Jeongin and Eunha?"
"N-" she stopped herself from saying it out loud; how did she even get stuck in such a situation?
Jeongin intervened, "Yes, we are."
And with that, he dared to intertwine his fingers with hers, and walked off. She was dragged behind him, reluctantly walking behind him, and she stared at their locked hands. Concentrating on them involuntarily, she didn't realize how far the two were from the rest in the canteen when he broke the contact, and suddenly, her hand felt cold.
"Do it again," she subconsciously murmured.
"What?" Jeongin didn't understand what she had said, thanks to her being almost inaudible.
"Do it-" she caught herself saying it, and she froze on her spot.
Did she have the goddamn audacity to say that to a human? No, hell no!
But then, wasn't that just her average defense mechanism speaking?
