————————

Your child's first day of school was always emotional. Most of the time, it was hard to tell who cried more: the child upon realizing they'd be away from their parents for so long, or the parents being hit with the crushing realization that their baby's growing up.

Lewis follows Tyler into the classroom. His baby's excited to start preschool, and Lewis is definitely one of the ones to cry over that fact.

When Lewis kneels down to get on Ty's level, the four year old takes off running across the room, to a blond man and a dark-haired girl. Tyler's got a bad habit of running off like that, and it drives both his parents up the damn wall.

By the time Lewis gets over there, all he hears is Ty's little voice telling the man, "I've seen you before."

It's instinct that causes Lewis to immediately apologize. "I'm so sorry 'bout Ty, he's just-"

"Lewis?"

"Ronnie? No way- This is your little girl, right?" At the man's words, the little girl- Rosaline- pressed her face against Ronnie's leg to 'hide'.

Tyler, of course, seemed confused by that. "My dad's nice, you don't gotta be scared," he told her, a slight frown on his face. "I'm Ty, what's your name?"

Slowly, Rosie lifted her head and introduced herself, drawing comfort from the way her dad absentmindedly stroked her hair as he spoke.

"Can we be friends?" came Tyler's next question, the four year old rocking back and forth on his heels. "My dad said he was seventeen when he found a friend but that sounds like a really, really long time and I don't wanna wait that long-"

"Ty, honey, I gotta go," Lewis interrupted, kneeling down again to give his son a hug. "Remember, your mommy's gonna come pick you up later because I'll be at work. I love you." He punctuated his words with a soft kiss on the forehead.

"Bye! I'm gonna have a lot of fun, don't worry 'bout me!"

Lewis laughed, telling Ronnie and Rosaline goodbye as he left. Soon after, Tyler got distracted and ran off, leaving the father and daughter alone.

Ronnie went through a similar routine, holding his daughter tightly against him and murmuring encouragements to her, along with the promise of a treat when school was over.

Then, Rosaline grabbed his face and kissed him on the nose (because that's one of the cutest things kids do). "See you later," she said.

"Bye, sweetheart. I'll see you in a few hours."

And by the time Ronnie actually left the room, he had to wipe a few tears from his eyes. But a quick glance over his shoulder told him that she was going to be fine, because she was already talking to some of the other kids. She saw him looking, and gave him a shy little wave as he finally left.

[ idk it's been a few years since i've consistently been around preschoolers but i think this is fairly accurate.

if i were to continue this au, it would literally just be stupid shit for ty and rosie from this age to like teenage years tbh ]
