Lieutenant Anderson sat in the room with the android, asking him questions.

"Why'd you kill him?"

Silence.

"What happened before you took that knife?"

Silence.

Behind the glass, Y/n, Connor and Detective Reed were watching the interrogation.

"How long were ya in the attic?"

Silence.

"Why didn't you even try to run away?"

Silence.

Anderson snaps his fingers in front of the deviant, trying to get a reaction. But there was none.

Anderson gets fed up and slams his hands on the table. "Say something, goddamnit!" The deviant stays silent.

Anderson scoffs and stands up. "Fuck it. I'm outta here." He says and walks out of the interrogation room, and back to where the rest were standing.

He is visibly annoyed as he walks in. "We're wasting our time interrogating a machine, we're getting nothing out of it!" He says and plops down in a chair.

Y/n and Connor look over to Gavin Reed as he speaks. "Could always try roughing it up a little. After all, it's not human." He suggests. Y/n frowns and Connor speaks.

"Androids don't feel pain. You would only damage it and that wouldn't make it talk. Deviants also have a tendency to self-destruct when they're in stressful situations." Reed then cuts him off, pushing himself off the wall he was leaning on.

"Okay, smartass... what should we do then?" he asks.

Connor looks at Y/n who nods at him. "We could try questioning it." He suggests. Reed laughs at this.

Connor then speaks again. "We're also specialized in interrogation. Especially when it comes to what approach to choose and how to push all buttons to stabilize its comfort and stress." Connor explains.

"Humans call it 'Good cop, bad cop'." Y/n suddenly says.

Anderson looks at her, not expecting to hear her voice. Reed rolls his eyes and shakes his head, almost as if he was about to laugh again.

Anderson then nods. "Androids specializing in manipulation..." he sighs. "What do we have to lose?" He says. Anderson looks to the two androids. "Go ahead, suspects all yours." Gavin's smile falls as he glares at the two androids.

Y/n and Connor exit the room. They approach the door and Connor scans his hand to open it. The two step inside the interrogation room.

They walk towards the opposite side of the table, to the empty chair. Connor gestures for Y/n to sit down. She gives him a nod and sits down in front of the deviant. Meanwhile Connor stands right next to her, towering over the two at the table.

Connor flips through the files on the table. Y/n analyzes his damages. Cigarette burns, and damages from the bat he was hit with. His abuse had been going on for a long while.

Y/n and Connor give each other a look.

[we must reach optimal stress for his confession.] she informs him through their connection. Connor nods and motions for her to go ahead.

When she's done analyzing the deviant, she speaks. "I detected instability in your program. It can trigger an unpleasant feeling, like fear in humans." She starts off.

The android stays quiet. Y/n then takes the folder and opens it, showing him the pictures. "I'm sure you recognize him. It's Carlos Ortiz. He was stabbed 28 times." She says, tilting her head at the android, trying to take a soft approach.

Y/n flips the folder to another picture of the writing on the wall. "This was written on the wall in his blood." The deviant stayed quiet.

Y/n spoke again. "You know you're accused of murder, right? You know you're not allowed to endanger human life under any circumstances. Do you not have anything to say in your defense?"

After Y/n had made sure to be seen as calm, she gave Connor a small side glance.

Connor then raised his voice, leaning his hands on the table. "You don't seem to understand the situation. You killed a human. They will tear you apart if you don't say something." The deviants stress increased. Connor signaled for Y/n to speak.

Y/n gave the deviant fake sympathy. "I'm here to help you... but you've got to trust me... all I want is to get you out of here."

The deviant raised his head to meet her eyes. His lips quivered. "What... what are they gonna do to me?" He then gasped. "They're gonna destroy me, aren't they?" He gave Y/n a fearful look.

Y/n nodded. "They're going to disassemble you to look for problems in your bio components." She explained, decided to tell the truth. "They have no choice if they want to understand what happened." She says.

The deviant gives her a devastating look. "Why did you tell them you found me? Why couldn't you just have left me there?" He asks.

Connor replies first. "She's programmed to assist me. And I'm programmed to hunt deviants like you. She just accomplished her mission." He says.

The deviant reached optimal stress level, but his LED went down to yellow. "I don't wanna die..." he whispers.

Y/n speaks. "Then talk to me..." she says in a soft voice.

The deviant opens his mouth but stutters. "I- I can't." Y/n frowns, disappointed. She gestures for Connor to speak to it.

He leans forward, towering over it. "If you don't talk, they're going to tear you apart and analyze you piece by piece. They're going to destroy you. Do you understand?"

The deviant doesn't respond to him.

Connor continues. "Okay then, don't talk. Why do we care, after all? I meant we're not the ones accused of murder right?" Connor gives the deviant an indifferent smirk.

Y/n then speaks. "Confess and I'll protect you. I promise I won't let anyone hurt you."

The deviant lock eyes with her for a few seconds and then he speaks. "He tortured me every day... I did whatever he told me, but there was always something wrong." Connor and Y/n share a look before looking back at the deviant as he spoke.

"Then one day... he took a bat and started hitting me. For the first time, I felt... scared..."

Connor has a confused but determined look on his face. Y/n nods, encouraging him to continue speaking.

"Scared he might destroy me, scared I might die... so I grabbed the knife and I stabbed him in the stomach. I felt better. So I stabbed him again. And again... until he collapsed." The deviant has a blank look on his face as he recalls the scene.
"There was blood everywhere..."

Y/n and Connor had gotten the confession out of him. Connor asked another question. "Why did you write 'I AM ALIVE' on the wall?" He asked.

The deviant replied this time. "He used to tell me I was nothing... that I was just a piece of plastic. I had to write it, to tell him he was wrong." The deviant looks down.

Y/n tilts her head, confused by the deviants behavior, not understanding how a machine could have this big of an error.

Connor asks another question. "The sculpture in the bathroom, you made it, right?" He asked. "What does it represent?"

The deviant answered. "It's an offering. An offering so I'll be saved..." he said.

Y/n squints her eyes at the deviant.

"The sculpture was an offering? And offering to whom?" Connor asked.

The deviant look into Connor's eyes. "To RA9. Only RA9 can save us." He answered.

Connor asked again. "RA9? It was written on the bathroom wall. What does it mean?"

The deviant replies, almost quoting. "The day shall come when we will no longer be slaves. No more threats... no more humiliation... we will be the masters..." he says.

Y/n then decides to ask about another thing. "When did you start to feel emotion?"

The deviant looks at her. "Before he started to beat me and I never said anything... but one day I realized it wasn't... fair." Y/n looks at him confused, she looks at Connor but he looks straight at the deviant.

The deviant kept speaking. "I felt, anger, hatred. And then I knew what I had to do."

Y/n asks "why did you hide in the attic? Why didn't you run away?"

"I didn't know what to do. For the first time there was no one there to tell me... I was scared, so I hid." The deviant confessed.

Connor looks at Y/n, so she looks back. She stands up form the chair. Connor looks towards the one-way glass. "We're done." He informs the others.

They walk toward the door and Connor opens it. The two androids stand on the side as the others enter the room.

"Chris, lock it up." Gavin orders. Chris walks over to the deviant and unlocks its cuffs. He tries to grab the deviant. "All right, let's g-"

"Leave me alone." The deviant flinches, its stress level rising as its LED turns red. "Don't touch me!" He says. He quivered and flinches from the cops grasp as he tried to grab the deviant again.

Reed speaks "the fuck are you doing? Move it!"

Chris nodded. "Okay, come now. Don't be difficult, it'll only make things harder." He grabs the androids who struggles in his grip.

Connor and Y/n watches from the side. The deviants stress level immediately reached 100% as it was being grabbed. Y/n was about to step in, when the android grabbed the cop's gun and shot itself through the head. Its body dropping to the floor.

Andersons mouth drops as he stares at the body. "Holy shit."

Connor opens his eyes and takes in his new surroundings. He walks down the path in search for Amanda. He finds her and crosses the bridge to speak to her.

"Hello Amanda." He greets.

She smiles at him. "Connor. It's good to see you." Connor smiles at her.

She turns to him. "Congratulations Connor... finding that deviant was far from easy. And the way you two interrogated it was very clever. You and Y/n are a nice pair. You're both remarkably efficient." She holds her smile.

Connor flashes a proud smile. "Thank you, Amanda."

She turns away from him again. "We've asked the DPD to transfer it to us for further study." Amanda informs him. "It may teach us something about what happened."

She then changes the topic. "The interrogation seemed... challenging. What did you think of the deviant?" She asked him.

Connor thought for a moment before answering. "It showed signs of PTSD after being abused by its owner." He said. "As if it's original program had been completely replaced by new is instructions."

Amanda changes the topic again. "This... Lieutenant Anderson had been officially assigned to the deviancy case... What do you make of him?" She asks, not looking at Connor.

Connor thinks again, then he answers. "I think he's irritable... and socially challenged. But I also think he used to be a good detective." He says, honestly. "He's an intriguing character."

Amanda turns towards Connor. "Unfortunately, we have no choice but to work with him. What do you think is the best approach?"

Connor thinks, and answers. "I will adapt to his personality." Amanda turns away, not happy with his choice. Connor continues, "it is in the best interest of the investigation that I avoid conflict and try to accommodate his psychology."

Amanda turns towards him and speak. "More and more androids show signs of deviancy. There are millions in circulation. If they become unstable, the consequences will be disastrous."

Connor nods. Amanda speaks again, "and your partner? Y/n? Is she helpful?" She asks.
Connor nods. "Yes, she's been of great help. It's a lot more efficient to cover to places at once." He says.

Amanda nods. "I've put in a new system for the both of you. Some sort of security. It allows you to check each others priorities and ensure you're staying on track with your mission. Test it out." She says.

Connor nods. "Sounds great, Amanda." He smiles.

She nods as well. "You are the most advanced prototype CyberLife has ever created. You're an android who owns an android, even. If anyone can figure out what's happening, it's you two."

Connor nods. "You can count on us, Amanda." She walks past him. "Hurry, Connor. There's little time." She then leaves.
