You threw yourself on the vast grass below an old sakura tree near your shrine. Under the dark blanket littered with stars, you closed your eyes, taking a death breath in an attempt to slow down time now that you're done with your chores around the sacred place. It was just you and mother nature. Until that was interrupted with a noise from a nearby shrub. Your eyes landed on the said shrub as you squinted your eyes when you spot a pair of glowing citrine eyes peering right back at you.
The being came out from its hiding spot and you find out... It was a black cat. The little fluff ball waltzed towards you as you tried greeting your new roommate.
"Hey, buddy..." you whispered and beckoned the jet-black feline closer to you, it poked its nose against your reaching hand. Its large golden eyes gazed at you curiously before it was attacked by a mighty yawn. "You must be tired, no?"
It then made its way up to your abdomen and curled into a bundle of fluff and fell into a slumber, just like that. And now you're stuck with an adorable feline on top of you. It was a sin to wake this creature up.
"(Y/n)?" there was no mistaking that voice, you turned to see a boy clad in dark green and yellow, with dark hair styled into a bowl cut.
"Hey, Hashirama." you smiled at your unexpected guest. "I'm in a bit of a pickle here..."
He held himself back laughing, but he couldn't help it. "Do you need help? I'm pretty sure you can just sleep because you have nine-tails to lean on. Must be nice." he stated, referring to your nine soft plush tails you can easily act as your personal pillow. He always dreamed of sleeping among the fluffy tails.
"Hashirama, no, please help me." you looked so adorable with the cat sleeping soundly on top of you. You continued caressing the feline's soft fur, not wanting it to wake up and meow for attention.
Hashirama chuckled. "You bold wittol sleepyhead to take a nap on my favorite pillow." he laid down next to you as he used his elbows to prop himself to support his head, the grass did tickle but he didn't care. It was better than to hear his father scolding and lecturing him. The black cat's back continued to rise and fall at peace in its sleeping position. "You get three more minutes, then it's my turn."
And that's how you met the knucklehead Hashirama Senju.
Even though it was years ago, it felt like it was just yesterday. Hashirama would always come to your sacred shrine. Whether it be to talk, to rant, to vent about his training with his father and brothers. Everything.
"(Y/n)?" the familiar voice echoed throughout the empty building. Sounds from the small bells attached to the corners of your shrine rang signaling your presence. Wisps of smoke formed a rough shape of a person as it then materialized into you. The one he truly needed in life.
"Hashirama!" you beamed, greeting him with a warm embrace. Something he rarely received back home. "How was your day?"
"It's fine. I'm hungry though." you took some of the food the townspeople would give to your shrine as a peace offering, brought it up to Hashirama's hand. Strangely enough, he didn't eat it.
"You said you were hungry." you were the only one who recognized that look in his hollow eyes and the only one who was ever allowed to see him like this.
He was tired
Not physically, he was always pleading for some of your food when he was ravenously hungry. He was mentally drained. His breathing was calm for a moment and he stayed still, back hunched forward as he stared into the empty space. He then leaned his head on your shoulder as he had his hand around your waist. He buried his face in your shoulder as he murmured a soft, "I love you."
Your eyes widened as you turned to face him so he had his head rested on your chest. "I love you, too." you replied softly.
Outside these sacred walls, he was a loveable yet obnoxious man from the Senju clan. A man who was deemed weak from his youth but was then showered with praise for being one of the strongest ninjas of the era and during the war.
When it came to your relationship with him, he wanted to keep your privacy so you wouldn't have to deal with envious supporters and other enemies. He wanted to protect you from that part of his life.
You were aware of his hard work and efforts is was why you also bore a will to love and protect him. Despite knowing his flaws and weaknesses. Your arms were his home, a place not even the Senju clan household could challenge it, a place where he can relax and won't have to pretend.
"(Y/n)?"
"Yes?"
"This feels nice." soft giggles erupted from your chest as he lifted his gaze at you, with a grateful smile complimenting his handsome features. He took some of the hanami dango and took a bite.
"(Y/n). I've been chosen to be the first Hokage of the Hidden Leaf. Will you come to live there to be by my side as I rule the village?" he asked as he placed the dango back on the plate.
Tears stung your eyes as they threatened to fall. "Of course, Hashirama."
Hashirama grabbed your hand and kissed the backside as a sign of gratitude and his love for you. "Thank you..."
"Anytime, love."
Even when death separated you both. You still kept your promise. After a long day of work, you would always come back to your old shrine, below an old sakura tree, where you first met your other half, your lover. Staring at the gravestone that had your beloved's name etched onto it, you left a few of his favorite foods in front of the small memorial for Hashirama.
