WHEN THE 4 GHOSTS RETURNED TO THE HOUSE, they thought it would be a good idea to explore, and while Olivia told them consistently to respect Julies' family's privacy they just wouldn't listen.
Now they stood in Julie's room, walking around the small room as if they owned it.
A reluctant Olivia sat outside the room at the foot of the door with her head leaning against the beam as she heard the boys in the room touch things that weren't theirs.
She considered taking a nap there till they were done but the footsteps of someone walking up the stairs jolted her awake and there at the top of the stairs stood Julie, her eyebrow raised as she spotted the ghost by her door and Olivia just shrugged.
Once Julie was close enough Olivia said "I'm sorry, I did try to stop them but you know how stubborn they can be." Julie frowned at the girl in confusion
"What are you talking about-" she cut off once she spotted the 3 guys in her room, Reggie was lying on her bed, Alex was trying to pick up a picture frame and Luke was staring at a box on one of her shelves.
Julie threw her door open wider with a slam and all 4 ghosts jumped at the sound, "what are you guys doing in my room?" the girl demanded, the 3 ghosts exchanged glances as Olivia watched from behind Julie
"Uh -"
"Uhmm -"
" We were looking for the kitchen ?" the ghosts stammered, Julie shook her head as she glared at the guys.
"This? This can't happen, it's creepy. Get off my bed please" she said and Reggie hopped off her bed in an instant.
"Hey, Julie, what's in the box?" Luke said pointing at the white box with beautiful designs on her shelf.
"That's off-limits," she said and Luke nodded his head chuckling slightly.
"Oh ok, girl stuff," he said in a high-pitched voice, which led to Olivia poofing over to him and pulling his ear causing him to yelp in pain.
"Stop teasing her for god's sake," Olivia said as Luke continued to yelp
"I'm sorry! It was a joke Ol!"
Reggie was wide-eyed as he turned to Julie
"girl stuff as in butterflies and glitter?" he asked.
"Oh come on - I'm sorry about them," Alex says as he offers her an apologetic smile, Olivia finally released Luke as Julie turns to face him
"It's none of your business, and yes there might be some glitter"
Reggie gave her a dorky smile and nodded while Alex finally picked up the picture frame he'd been attempting to pick up for the past 5 minutes "hey! I picked something up!" he exclaimed with a smile before the picture frame dropped onto the bed.
"I dropped it"
"Is that you mom?" Luke asked as he peered at the picture frame.
"Yes, and that is my favorite picture of us so if you break it, I'll break you" Julie threatened as she placed the frame back on its shelf.
"Ok sorry but we're kind of unbreakable at this point" Alex pointed out.
Julie frowned "I don't get it, you guys can mess up my bed, pick up your instruments but you can't pick up other stuff ?" she asked.
"I know right it's hard but for some reason our instruments? Easy." Luke said and Reggie pointed at him in agreement.
"Yeah like super easy. Oh! Check out what I learned today." Reggie stood up and faced his palms out, less than a second later a bass materialized in his hands and sent him to the ground on impact.
"Yeah, that looked super easy" Julie sassed .
"yeah but it's like what I always thought, our instruments are attached to our souls." before Julie could respond a knock was heard, and in strolled Julies dad.
Olivia jumped in surprise and out of reflex, her hand reached out for Lukes and their fingers interlocked. The 4 ghosts and Julie watched the man with nervous eyes
"everything ok?" he asked as Julie played it off
"Yeah I'm fine!" she said with mock enthusiasm
"Oh ok, I thought I heard you talking to someone." he says as Julie waves her hand around
"must've been my laptop."
The two talked awkwardly for a moment before Julie's dad left the room and shut the door.
It was only then Olivia and Luke realised they had been holding each other's hands the entire time.
Olivia immediately pulled her hand back to her side as blood rushed to her face, Luke cleared his throat nervously while rubbing his neck awkwardly.
Alex watched the whole thing with a sinister smile.
"Your dad seems like the kind of guy that likes to barbeque, I bet he has a great ribs recipe," Reggie said as the 3 ghosts smile at him amused.
"I don't know but if you guys wanna talk to me we have to do it in the studio. He's worried enough as it is ." Julie stressed with frowned eyes.
Olivia frowned as well but before she could even apologize Luke spoke up
"he seems chill, you should just tell him about us ." he said with a dorky smile, which in any other situation would make Olivia's heart do somersaults but in this case made her want to face palm.
"You're kidding right?" Julie and Olivia deadpanned at the same time immediately causing Luke's smile to waver.
"This past year everyone's been watching over me being super nice as if waiting for me to snap. if I told my dad I met a ghost band, I'll be back to talk to Dr. Turner 3 days a week." she snapped at him.
"Yeah you probably shouldn't tell him ..." Luke trailed off before walking back up to look at the white box on the shelf.
"Julie ..." he asks suggestively while looking at the box
"Oh my god! I thought I told you to leave that alone!" she exclaimed but Luke raised his arms in defeat
"I know ! You just shouldn't have said anything because now I can't stop thinking about it so.. What's in the box Julie?" he asked desperately with an adorable expression which made Olivia smile just a little.
"It's just my dream box ok? Whenever I get a thought of something I write it down to get it out of my mind . " the girl sighed as Olivia perked up
"Like lyrics? "Olivia asked delicately
Julie shrugged , "they would be if I still wrote music like I used to with my mom. Now it's just filled with stuff that doesn't make me sad," she said slightly sad causing Olivia to regret asking at all.
The moment was ruined as Alex stood from where he was sat on Julie's bean bag chair
"but I mean you do play, we heard you this morning" he said innocently which caused Olivia to groan.
"In the garage?" Julie asked with a raised voice, Olivia pinched her brother's arm causing him to yelp out in pain as Julie glared at the guys
"so you were there too?"
"Weeell-"
"I -"
" Uhm -"
They stuttered over one another while Olivia stood in the middle of them pinching the bridge of her nose before Luke decided to cut off the mumbling by lying on Julie's bed, one arm propped against his face as he asked with a dorky smile
"so where is your kitchen by the way?" he asked smoothly.
"Ok we need to set some boundaries," she says with a sickly sweet smile, bending down slightly so she was at eye level with Luke
"For starters? Stay out of my room!" she yelled and all 4 ghosts jumped as the boys scrambled to leave.
Olivia lingered behind and once all the boys leave she turned to face the younger Latino girl.
Julie raised a brow "was there something you needed Olivia?"
The older blonde smiled "Please just call me Liv and no, i-i wanted to apologize not only for the guy's behavior but for bringing up your mom. I didn't mean to reopen a sore wound." she winced, and Julie couldn't help but drop her defensive stance.
"It's okay I know you didn't mean to and it's nice talking about her once in a while," Julie says as she sits by the edge of her bed, she gently patted the spot beside her signaling Olivia to sit and she did.
The two sat in silence for a while before Olivia spoke up "you know I used to write lyrics like you do all the time. In school, I always had my post-it pad with me in case of inspiration struck. I used to write songs every chance i got, I still do but not as much as I used to." the girl said softly as Julie watched her intently.
Julie noticed how she wasn't as outgoing as the rest of the guys, how she was more down-to-earth and responsible.
She also noticed she didn't really talk about music or perform as passionately as the rest of the guys even though she caught her playing the guitar on the first night in the garage.
She never wanted to be prod about what happened to her that could cause her to stop performing, she knew what it was like to lose the passion for something you oh so desperately love.
"Do you still sing?" Julie asked and Olivia looked at the girl
"yeah I still sing, sometimes when the guys rehearse for gigs and stuff I would join them but no, not in front of people I mean." she shrugs.
Julie nodded but didn't pry and Olivia couldn't help but feel grateful that the girl didn't ask any more about her past, she would tell her when she was ready but not right now.
"Julie I know what it's like to lose passion for music and think you can't get it back but I heard you today in that garage and Jules, can I call you Jules?
You have a killer voice and I don't think you know how many people would kill to have a voice like yours. If your talent in songwriting was the same as your talent in singing I can tell you, managers will be lining up for your work." Olivia smiled and Julie's eyes sparkled a little.
"You think so?"
"Girl I know so," She said and the 2 of them laughed, Olivia couldn't remember the last time she felt so close to another girl like this.
Oliva had girlfriends other than the guys of course but she was never really close with anyone.
"Have you written any songs that weren't for the band?" Julie asks and Olivia blushed just slightly, thinking about the one song she wrote back in high school about a certain someone and considered telling Julie about it before Alex's head popped through the door scaring both of the girls slightly.
"Hey! Sorry, didn't mean to bother you guys but did you get back into your music program?" Alex asked as Olivia's eyes widened.
"That's right, your music program! How did that go?" she asked as Julie shook her head
"No, no I didn't."
The 2 siblings exchanged sad glances
"I'm sorry that sucks" Alex said and Olivia offered Julie a sympathetic smile.
Alex looked around the room awkwardly as Olivia raised a brow
"was that it?" she asked and Alex smiled sheepishly.
"Yeah, this is getting weird," he said and Olivia shook her head with a smile.
She walked over to the door but before she went after her brother she turned to face the Latino.
"Screw the music program, you're a star Jules and no matter what I know you're gonna make your mark okay so no giving up just yet," she said with a wink before she poofed out after her brother.
Poofing back into the garage, Olivia let out a sigh of relief
"I'm exhausted" she said as she headed towards the couch.
Before the girl could even sit down Reggie made his way over, taking the girl's hand and spinning her around ballroom style causing a giggle to arise out of her.
Reggie and Olivia's friendship was something not many people understood.
Olivia's dorky side always somehow matched Reggie's energy and she was one of the many few people that could understand his antics.
Over the years he grew protective over her as did Luke and always saw her as his little sister.
Not that Luke knew of course.
Olivia laughed as Reggie spun her a few more times before dipping her and making his way over to Alex, blowing her a kiss as he did so.
The girl laughed at his antics as she sat on the couch, resting her feet on the coffee table.
Both ghosts were completely oblivious to Luke's stare, maybe glare, as he watched the interaction between them.
He always tried not to let Reggie's friendship with her get the best of him, I mean it wouldn't make sense for him to get angry every time she hung out with a guy that wasn't him.
She wasn't even his.
But as he watched the small interaction, Luke's jaw locked and he stood from where he sat at the piano and made his way over to her.
Just before the girl could close her eyes, she felt a hand rest on her shoulder and her eyes fly open to meet hazel ones.
Her mouth stretched into a smile as she spotted Luke's dorky grin.
"What?" she laughed.
God, he could listen to her laugh for days.
"You trust me?" he asked, his arm outstretched as she grinned
"Always," she said as she grabbed his hand and the 2 ghosts poofed out of the garage.
