OLIVIA HAD LUKE PATTERSONS ARMS AROUND HER WAIST
That was something the blonde girl never thought she would ever say.
But as she laid there with Luke's arms wrapped tightly around her waist, her back to his chest, and his head lying on the crook of her neck as he slept, she had never felt happier.
After the two ghosts kissed last night, they shared a few more before deciding to head to bed. The boy had pulled the girl into his arms and the two of them crashed into one of the large armchairs near the piano.
To say the least, the two ghosts were pretty much in love.
Olivia had been awake for a while now, Alex and Reggie were missing when she awoke so she just assumed they were in the house hanging out with Ray.
The 2 had taken a liking to Julie's dad over time for some reason.
As she lay in his arms, she couldn't help but stare at the boy.
His chest rose and fell softly with soft breathing, his lips slightly parted and his hair a tousled mess as he slept. Olivia couldn't help but stare at his adorable state.
She had thought a lot about what they were, she had never been in a real relationship before.
Sure she's kissed boys before, been on a few dates here and there. But there had never been a time when she could truly call someone her boyfriend.
She softly ran her fingers through Lukes's hair and sighed as she let her mind wander. Luke started to stir and Olivia smiled as she rested her hand on his cheek.
"Good morning sunshine" she sang softly, Luke rubbed his eyes but gave a tired smile nonetheless.
"Morning" he yawned, his voice raspy from sleep.
The boy positioned himself so Olivia could snuggle in closer to him more comfortably, the girl laid her head on the boy's chest as he played with her hair.
"Luke?"
"Yeah Ol?
"What are we?" Olivia whispered, biting her lip.
"What do you want us to be?" The boy responded with a laugh in his voice.
"I- I don't know. I've never done something like this before." Olivia mumbled. Luke sat up with a frown.
He forgot Olivia had never dated before, that she had never actually been in a relationship.
She was nervous.
Olivia sat up and now both ghosts were face to face. Luke cupped the girl's face with his hands and brought his forehead to hers, staring softly into her blue eyes.
"Well, all I know is that whatever we are: I'm yours. I've always been yours, I always will be yours. Doesn't matter what we are, boyfriend and girlfriend, anything. Just know no matter what my heart will always belong to you, got it?" The boy whispered against her lips. Olivia smiled and placed her hands around the boy's neck.
"My heart will always belong to you" she whispered back, the boy kissed her softly and the girl smiled.
The two got up and got dressed. Olivia changed out of her sweats and put on an oversized ACDC shirt, long black plait pants, Luke's beanie, and Alex's jean jacket.
When the girl walked out of the bathroom, Luke was pacing around the room causing the girl's eyes to furrow.
"Slow down Patterson you're making me dizzy" Olivia laughed and Luke stopped in his tracks, turning to face her.
"I- I wanna go see my parents again"
Olivia's smile dropped and her eyes softened, she took a seat on a couch as Luke sat beside her.
"It's just- this whole time I've just been so guilty about how I left things off with my mom. She was just looking out for me and I left them! After everything, they did for me and I left them because I was obsessed with some musical fantasy. I'm a horrible son." Luke cried, Olivia grabbed his hand and kissed it.
"You're not a horrible son. Sure maybe you shouldn't have just left like that but you did what you believed was right. You were chasing your dreams, Luke, no one should ever stop you from doing that. Not even your parents.
"Your parents will always love you no matter what you did and I know it is hard to believe that sometimes but it's true. You're not a horrible son Luke, ok. You are a lot of things but a horrible son is not one of them" Olivia spoke softly as Luke gave her hand a quickie squeeze.
"Okay" he whispered, Olivia gave him a soft kiss on the cheek and pulled him up.
"Now how about we pay Emily a visit?"
The two ghosts stood outside of Luke's parent's house on the front porch. They could've just poofed into the house itself but for some reason, Luke poofed them outside the window and watched in silence as his parents went along with their daily life.
"I just wanted to see them one last time, before we cross over and stuff," Luke said, his voice breaking slightly. Olivia was tucked under his arm as his hand gripped her waist as they watched his parents move around the house.
"I know, but they're going to be fine Luke," Olivia whispered as she ran her hand up and down his back soothingly.
Luke sighed as he gripped the girl tighter, all the talk about crossing over but none of the ghosts had talked about what would happen if they did cross over. Luke's main worry was that they wouldnt all be together when they did, that he wouldn't be able to see Olivia anymore.
The sound of footsteps on the porch caused the ghosts to turn around, both of them frowning as they recognized the curly dark hair of their Latino friend.
"Is that Julie?'' Olivia asked confused but Luke was already walking over, Olivia trailing behind.
"L-Luke-" Julie started but the boy cut her off.
"What are you doing here?" He asked the girl as he came to a stop in front of her, Olivia by his side.
"Ok look, i-i just wanted to know more about you, just curious. So I, Uhm, came here last week on your birthday." Julie explained quietly as she looked down at her shoes, guilt written all over her face.
"You were spying on me?" Luke scoffed.
"After all your speeches about boundaries and you were spying on me?" Luke with a frown.
"I know, I'm sorry it was wrong. But I'm worried about you" Julie reasoned.
"You don't have to be."
"I know how hard it is to speak to someone you love and can't. I feel that way every day. " Julie pleaded with the boy, Luke clenched his jaw and looked at the ground thinking. Olivia and Julie exchanged glances as he looked up at her.
"I don't even know what I'd say to her if she could hear me," Luke said.
"Yes, you do," Olivia spoke up, finally joining the conversation for once. She placed a hand on the boy's shoulder and looked at him knowingly.
"You've already said it."
Luke gazed down at the blonde girl, then back at Julie before hesitantly reaching out to ring the doorbell.
Luke and Olivia moved behind Julie as Luke's dad, Mitch, answered the door talking to Julie.
Olivia didn't visit Luke's house much but when she did, she always left with fond memories. Mitch was a sweet man, always inviting her over to talk about the many books the both of them read.
Seeing him now just made her miss her parents more.
As Julie walked into the house, Luke and Olivia followed slowly behind.
Luke walked into the house and didn't even flinch while Olivia couldn't help looking at every inch of the place. Sure she visited on his birthday but the ghost didn't get a chance to look at it.
It still looked the same. She walked over to the fireplace ledge and gazed at the many photos of Luke and his family. She came to a stop as her eyes landed on one particular photo.
It was taken on Christmas. Olivia was still a freshman then, she was seated on the couch in between Alex and Luke with a small Santa hat on her head. Luke and Alex had their arms around her while Reggie laid across all their laps, a cheeky grin on his face.
Olivia could feel herself wanting to cry, she completely forgot they had spent that Christmas with the Pattersons.
Luke came up behind her and gazed at the photo as Julie continued to talk to Luke's dad.
"That was a fun Christmas'' Luke chuckled.
"Yeah, one of the best." Olivia smiled sadly.
"Did I hear the doorbell?" A voice came behind them and the two ghosts quickly whipped around.
Emily Patterson still had the same kind smile she did when Olivia first met her. She heard Luke suck in a breath beside her and interlocked his hand in hers.
"What if I can't do this," Luke whispered as they watched Julie hand over the song Luke wrote for her to Emily.
"I'm going to be here every step of the way, you'll be ok," Olivia whispered.
Julie stood there as Emily started to read the lyrics, and that's when Luke started to sing.
[UNSAID EMILY BY LUKE PATTERSON]
"First things first, we start the scene in reverse. All of the lines rehearsed, disappear from my mind."
Julie and Olivia remained silent as Luke continued to sing and tell the story about how, if he could, would go back and change everything he did when he left home.
"If I could take us back if I could just do that. And write in every space the words 'i love you in replace then maybe time will not erase me.
If you could only know, I'd never let you go. And the words I most regrets are the ones I never meant to leave. Unsaid Emily."
Olivia didn't even need to look at him to know Luke was crying just from the sound of his voice, his breath came out ragged and he couldn't seem to choke up the next verse.
"Silent days, mysteries and mistakes. Who'd be the first to break? Guess we're alive that way." Olivia sang softly as Luke let out a soft sob.
Olivia already knew the song by heart from the many times she had sung it to him back in high school when he'd climb through her window upset and missing his parents.
"He said, she said. Conversations in my head, and that's where they're gonna stay forever." Olivia sang and Luke finally sang the chorus with her.
"If I could take us back if I could just do that. And write in every empty space the words 'i love you in replace and maybe time will not erase me.
If you could only know, I'd never let you go. And the words I most regrets are the ones I never meant to leave. Unsaid Emily."
By the time the ghosts finished singing, there wasn't a dry eye in the room.
Julie heard them sing and every lyric just hit her more and more, Luke's parents cried over their son's lyrics and Olivia and Luke clung to each other as emotions flowed through the boy.
It was as if a huge weight had been lifted off his chest.
The blonde turned towards the boy and wrapped her arms tightly around his waist, engulfing him in a hug which he gratefully returned. Burying his face in the crook of her neck as he left out soft sobs.
"Thank you" Emily choked out with a smile to Julie.
And with that, Olivia poofed the both of them out of the house
