2. VAMOS AMIGOS
γ Bae's POV γ
I was mentally going through a checklist.
Snacks? Check.
Pizza? Check.
Game? Check.
"Jinni! What's the time?" I called out while taking out chips from the drawer.
"7:45!" she yelled from the other room.
"Bae! Jiwoo, Sunoo, and Ni-ki are here!" Sullyoon shouted-or at least, I think she did. Her voice was always so quiet.
I walked into the room and saw Jungwon talking to Sunoo and Ni-ki, while Jiwoo was with Sullyoon and Jinni.
"Hi, unnie!" Jiwoo squealed.
"Hi, Jiwoo!" I greeted her. "Is Kyujin coming?"
"Yeah! I came with my brother and Ni-ki, but Kyujin said she'd come with her dad," she answered.
"Ohh! Okay," I said.
Just then, the doorbell rang.
"I'll get it!" I told them.
To my surprise, Kyujin and Sunghoon had arrived together. That was unexpected.
"Kyujin-ah!" I said. "I'm glad you came."
"Hi, unnie! Thanks for inviting me," she said excitedly before heading inside to talk to Jinni and Sullyoon. I overheard Sullyoon saying, "Jinkyu Jang! Hi."
I turned to Sunghoon. "Hi, Sunghoon sunbae," I greeted him. "Glad you could make it."
"Hi, thanks for inviting me," he replied. I motioned for him to come in, and as soon as he stepped inside, Sunoo was the first to start a conversation with him.
The doorbell rang again. It had to be either Yuna unnie or the pizza delivery guy. I opened the door and, to my surprise, it was both.
"Yuna unnie, welcome," I said before pulling out the money for the pizza-including a tip since we ordered a lot. "Thank you for the pizzas. Here you go," I told the delivery guy, handing him the cash.
"Thanks! Bye, Yuna," the guy said.
"Bye, oppa!" she replied.
As we walked inside, I turned to Yuna. "Oppa?"
"That's my brother," she answered.
"Ohh, okay," I said. "Now that you're here, we can start." I led her to the room where everyone was waiting.
γ Jinni's POV γ
Bae, Sullyoon, Jungwon, and I had set up everything perfectly-if I do say so myself. This was going to be so much fun.
When Kyujin arrived, she immediately bombarded us with questions.
"You guys are friends with Sunghoon sunbaenim?" "Do you think Ni-ki will hate my company?" "What game are we playing?"
And many, many more. We answered them all.
Then Sullyoon asked, "How and why did you come with him?"
"He was outside carrying a bag, in his pajamas, wearing a thick jacket on top, so I figured you guys invited him. We just came in together," she explained.
Now, everyone was gathered in the room, wrapped in quilts, sitting on the couch, bean bags, or the cushioned floor around the table where Bae had set up the game.
"So, this is a board game for ten players," Bae explained. "It's a role-playing game. When you roll the dice, you move according to the number you roll along the camino, which means 'path.' Every time you stop, you'll face a challenge. You have to find a solution and enter it into this machine here. If your solution is reasonable, you move forward. If not, you lose a life. Each player has five lives, but you can gain more by solving riddles. Anyway, let's play!"
"Let's choose avatars or roles!" Sunoo suggested.
"Okay! I'll go first!" Jiwoo said eagerly.
One by one, we all chose our roles:
Jiwoo was a water elemental, meaning she could control water.
Sunghoon, Jungwon, and I were also elementals-Sunghoon had ice, Jungwon had earth, and I got fire. That was pretty ironic, considering Sunghoon had ice-like visuals, Jungwon was an environmentalist, and both my parents had fire-related jobs-one was a cook, the other a firefighter.
Sullyoon was a fairy with healing powers-which was so fitting because her childhood nickname was Fairy, and her parents were veterinarians.
Ni-ki was a dragon-not just a fire-breathing one, but also capable of breathing ice, water, and a gas that could kill anything instantly.
Our three sorcerers were: Yuna, a sorceress with a magical spellbook and the ability to turn anything into dust. Kyujin, a sorceress who could harness the sun and use light magic. And Sunoo... brace yourselves-a dark sorcerer with shadow and dark magic. The literal sunshine had become a dark sorcerer.
Finally, we had Bae. She had the ability to control and manipulate dreams and illusions. Everyone was really excited to start.
The board game's first area looked like a Fire Kingdom, so Bae told me to go first. I rolled the dice, and the moment it landed on the board, everything started to glow. I didn't even see the number.
Suddenly, I was no longer in Bae's house-I was in a forest.
I looked around, but the others were nowhere to be seen. My chest tightened with fear. Then, without warning, everything went black.
And just before I passed out, the last thought in my mind was-
What the hell just happened?
